I research a lot of myths for stories I right (modern fantasy) and love seeing how they change over time. There's always gotta that one person though who doesn't understand that cultures exchange over time and claims that the story was stolen from their people, and it belongs to them and is offended by every retelling. I fell into a rabbithole once on pinterest about the Greeks that was conspiracy level bs saying that everything Greek- mythology, culture, etc- was all stolen from Africans. Got called racist for daring to say that Greeks, Egyptians and other Africans exchanged cultures. Some people live in weird bubbles.

Despite no formal evidence to support the assertion that Humans thousands of years ago had globally intertwined supply chains we know they had to have, how do we know? Because the tin that was used to fuel virtually all the bronze production until the 20th century was mined in Cornwall, 3to 4000 years this was the case. Whether it's Sumeria, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Israel, China etc they made bronze with Cornish tin.

I'm Christian but I made peace with this fact long ago (I see it as a common pool for major religions and if we can all dwell on this common pool, religion as a whole might make more sense outside dogmas and contradictions). But I'm still averse to the idea of exaggerating these similarities between Christianity and religions considered pagan (e.g a lot of 'anti-Christian' skeptics like to assert that Jesus is a copy of pre-Christian pagan heroes which when studied in-depth, proves the claim false). Also there's a group of people that think the Semitic word "amen" (a word showing affirmation) is cognate to the name of "Amun Ra" also called "Amen Ra" (this is like saying the French word "tète" and the Aramaic "tete" (pronounced tay-tay) are cognate).

Christianity is built on Judaism, which is built on various ancient religions, which was built on others, etc. There's thousands of years of history and beliefs and "truths" predating anything related to what would end up in Christianity (not to mention that modern Christianity is heavily slashed, translated, cut and pasted into something very different from what it used to be) It's far more likely that Jesus is heavily inspired by various stories and figures, than not - especially when taking into account that what we "know" of him and his teachings was written years and years past his death, not to mention, a fair bit was written after the death of his followers, as well. And of course the Bible and New Testament went through multiple instances of translation, interpretation, banning and re-writing...

@@sofieholm9992 All your points are good ones, but reading the Bible as literal history (fundamentalist) is a recent aberration and most Christians still don't. Early Christians were familiar with the stories around them and took note of the differences. Hebrews when their stories were written were familiar with the current variants and possibly the originals, taking instruction from the differences in their own version. Many tales were even told in two contrasting versions in true mythological style. So obviously historical precedent does not interfere with religion. It does of course utterly destroy any fundamentalist inerrant-word-of-God interpretation, but that is an overall minority (though loud and influential) and impervious to history and science. I wish I could get through to them. As a Texan, with no problem with most religious thought worldwide, I rather desperately wish we had a way to communicate with theocratic fundamentalists and get them to at least stop trying to legislate their religious beliefs.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm genuinely interested but text can often come off wrong, but how have you been following this channel for years and you're still a Christian? How do you not know the origins of the bible well enough to know that it's categorically not from a celestial being that created the universe? Been subscribed since 2017 or something like that, very funny and thought provocative channel. However, I don't agree with most things he says, because I actually read the Bible in context and I watch other apologists and scholars of the Bible on RU-vid. Just because I watch him for years doesn't necessarily means I believe in everything he says.

Keep it up! It is a good trait to be sceptic, and question things presented, no matter the side. The first thing which led me to leave my releagion is they actively harassed me, because I asked difficult questions, like the one this video presents. I guess it could be about sacrificing things that you value. A bundle of vegetables are valuable, but good healthy farm animals take much more time and resources to produce than a fraction of a harvest. Really though, it strikes me more as a fable of an abusive father (god being everyone's father and all), and how parental abuse can make you turn on your siblings who might be treated better than you, simply to avoid having to face your own feelings of impotence when it comes to being angry at the parents themselves. i also wonder if the Egyptian story was propaganda marking the shift from pastoralism to agriculturism. zoing out one more level we see historical evidence for human religion going from animism of the hunter gatherers to pastoral religions to agricultural religions. animism - everything is alive (has awareness/consciousness) because there wasn't seen a division between humans and the other things in nature as we and everything else is a part and product of nature. pastoral and agricultural religions become about how we are separate from and above nature as we had learned how to control nature to the extent of raising animals and crops and that nature is an enemy because sometimes droughts happen and ppl starve... whereas semi nomadic ppl saw nature like a mother - nourishing them by providing all they needed to live and thrive....partnership vs exploitation, to simplify.

This is a very incorrect POV. The telling of the flood story in genesis was written after those nations had written their point of view because Genesis was written by Moses, not Noah. However, We know that the flood of genesis actually happened instead of those other stories because ours has an oral transmission and a supernatural national revelation years later witnessed by the whole world which confirms the story of Genesis since the prophet that held the revelation literally wrote the Torah. The flood stories of other nations are a great resource to prove that an actual flood actually did happen and was witnessed by the whole world however their stories fail at giving the reason why it happened, hence why they credited the flood to their gods to fit their customs & traditions.

Do you know how I separated Christianity from the other religions and mythologies from around the world and how Christianity stands out by far and how is TOTALLY opposed from them? 1) Is that it makes more sense that God has to be the cause of the big bang and is outside of his creation, which this makes more sense and explains how he can manipulate his creation (miracles), while the other pagan gods are a product of the big bang, therfore they are bounded by the laws of physics (within the universe); such as the God of thunder , the volcano god, god of war... At some point, plagiarism rules are going to have to go. There's either a correct answer, in which case everyone should have it verbatim, or there's a finite number of opinions, all of which have already been given with every argument possible. Eventually you're not going to be able to write something that hasn't been written before. I've been dinged for copying works I've never heard of, just because the phrasing used was satisfactory and catchy - which of course meant someone else had also independently come up with it. You know it's bad because teachers need special software to check for plagiarization now. They're plagiarising someone else's anti-plagiarism instead of doing it themselves! Well, we know of multiple different stories from different flood plains with their own version of the story. Like, the story of Vishnu and Manu was more of one of salvation, where Vishnu, the god who kept things in balance, incarnated himself to save mankind. There's also a few in China, each one different but mostly following a theme of destruction and creation as well as perseverence. With the flood plains in middle East, we have the well known genesis story passed down through multiple theistic generations as a form of culture that found it's way into the legends of the religions there. We even have american and egyptian/nile-side flood stories, that I'm not quite familiar with. The main reason why these stories are common along flood plains is because, well, humans feared nature and floods existed alongside the early riverside civilisations and so it was a common disaster. Different places developed their own cultures surrounding floods, kind of like how different cultures independently built pyramidal structures of worship. Because it was a stable, primitive structure for large buildings. Honestly, with these stories, the only real common point you can find with all of these stories is that they all mention a flood, which is obvious since they are stories about floods. Hell, some of them, like some chinese ones, are not even divine floods. Sorry for the spelling errors, I'm tired and going to sleep, so I guess that might be common here. Really am not bothered.

He was the "prosecutor" of humanity (basically, he did exactly what Jeffrey does in your video -- call out god or humans if they do something that doesn't make sense, so that God can "prove" how correct he is). He wasn't evil; his job was literally just to question God (you know, before that in itself became evil) and pull sting operations on the worst humans by tempting them to sin. Satan also likely got his name from the Pre-Islamic Arabic "Shaitan", which are a type of demon whose job was to tempt mankind and lead them astray. Basically what "Satan" does in the Semitic Bible.
