A Bike, a Plane and Cavemen - The Royal Enfield Classic 350 goes back in time

A Bike, a plane and Cavemen, that’s what we find as The Royal Enfield Classic 350 rides through thousands of years of history in less than 5 miles.
The Neolithic circle of Arbor Low is our first encounter. Dating back to around 2500 BC it has 2 circular earthworks with a ditch between them. A ring of over 50 standing stones crests the inner earthwork, these now having fallen from the standing position.
A monument to a tragic air crash during WW11 is in Middleton-by-Youlgrave, it commemorates a plane that crashed into the hillside in bad weather whilst on a night navigation training run.
The area is now tranquil farmland and quaint villages for all the enjoy.

Interesting all these places near our houses, that’s one of the good things about the UK. I’m planning what to do this weekend and I may well go to the Wellington memorial. My dad was a Wellington pilot, in the Med’ and funny how different people had different wars! My dad’s squadron never really saw any action. They had a few deaths with crashes in the desert though, sadly. On a patrol, that my dad wasn’t on, they attacked a German submarine and managed to run it aground. Read up on it once and the Captain and other officers were either hung or shot as they’d been found to have gunned down the crew, off the coast of West Africa, of a Dutch merchant vessel, they sunk, in order for them not to be given away which might have happened if they’d survived! Nice ride out Dave, cold, but the sunshine makes everything better, interesting bit of history too. We have hundreds of dry stone walls over here, had a ride out on Ruby the Classic 350 today, MESH is out! we got 23c this afternoon, hope you get some warm soon. Cheers, DINO and Significant others.

I love riding..and I too, prefer a modest sized motorbike. Mine is a yamaha scooter. 250cc. The body keeps me warmer. But I like that you are NOT screaming along at 100 mph at the edge of traction, but puttering along and enjoying the ride! You live somewhere quite beautiful! Please keep it up!

Arbor Low is on my visit list. I think it's Gib Hill Barrow behind it. It's amazing how many aircraft have crashed in that area. If you enjoy a walk, there's still the wreckage of one on Bleaklow that you can visit. It can get blustery though - I had to subtitle my video because the wind was too high 😀 Beautiful views there. Spring seems to have finally sprung!

Lovely ride Dave, know every inch of it like the back of my hand! You were lucky to have had a nice dry day in January. A month later, and you may well have passed my Halcyon Black 350 parked on the Road in Middleton. ( it was safely tucked up in the shed 'til last month). Nice to have a virtual ride, when I'm too "nesh" to go out in the winter! Keep safe, and keep 'em coming ..Best regards...Pete

I’m disappointed you removed the picnic basket… it was something of a trademark which encouraged me to fit one to my Classic. One of these days we’ll bump into each other at Monyash. Thanks for another entertaining video 😀😀

Hi Andy, the picnic basket was on Ivy, she was stolen and trashed, when she was recovered it was missing. But not long ago it was recovered by someone walking and they identified it by the contents and I got it back. It's now on the new bike. A bit of Ivy lives again on Betsy. Ride safe, Dave

@@thatblokeonamotorbike Hi Dave. I followed the story of poor Ivy, but I thought I had seen the basket on the new bike. When people comment on my basket, I tell them that my pigeons are in it and I release them when I’m out, to see who gets home first 😀😀😀

A great ride in the White Peak area, not done much down there for a couple of years, will have to revisit soon. Not heard the Halifax wind saying before. Ours tends to come straight up the Don from Sheffield, or down the Vale of York.

Dave, I've got a thing about old bridges - and Conksbury bridge is my favourite (you should have stopped there). It's grade ll listed and dates back to the 18th century. I always stop there to watch the River Lathkill wind it's way across the water meadow.

Ey up As you come into Youlgreave from one side it’s signposted as “Youlgreave”. Then when you come from the other side it’s signposted “Youlgrave”. In addition everyone locally calls it Pommey and no one can tell you why 😂 I’ve been enjoying your videos, and yes I’ve subbed Si thee

It’s amazing how those walls go on mile after mile , I wonder how long it took them to build and is there still people who maintain them and when you think of how they transported all of them and being able to put them all together. It must have been hard work and long hours. It’s to have places of interest to stop , just make the ride all the more interesting. I heard like kind of transformer sound on this video not sure what it was ?
