720P-HD A Bluegrass Journey to Cassia
MY GOODNESS, WHAT A BLUEGRASS TREASURE OFF THE BEATEN PATH!
This is not the usual Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Friday night jam video. I decided to make the 30-mile hop to the rural community of Cassia in Lake County, Florida for a jam of a different sort - and boy was it worth the ride! I found some fine bluegrass musicians, some of whom also grace the Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Jam on Friday nights.
This is a well run open Jam spirited by super bluegrass lover, Julie Champion, at the Cassia Community Club, 29245 State Road-44, Eustis, FL 32736-8113. Cassia is located halfway between Eustis and Deland on SR 44.
• Bluegrass, Blues, & Go...
• CREED - ROTHWELL BAND ...
Open Bluegrass Jams are a 25-year tradition at the Cassia Community Club; this 100% All-Bluegrass Jam is held the 3rd Saturday of every month in the clubhouse, beginning at 6 p.m.
On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, pickers gather in the 3 pavilions and under the oaks and pines during Music-in-Cassia programs, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Inside, bands play bluegrass, gospel, country, and favorite tunes on stage. Volunteers have supper and refreshments, during all programs, available in the clubhouse kitchen. Dancing to the music is encouraged. There's a good wooden floor in front of the stage inside the clubhouse.
The public is invited to these free, family-oriented events. Musicians of all ages and skill-levels are welcome to join the jamming circles. The club has drawn many talented musicians locally and nationally. (Julia Champion)
THE PICKERS, CLOCKWISE AROUND THE SEMI-CIRCLE:

Hello, Garvin Newman is my grandfather. I cherish this video so much because I don't have many of him playing. He has passed away as of 2023, so if you have anymore videos of him I would love to see, please!

Sorry about your mishap. You and Jack Lewis (101st Airborne) need to watch out for the trees :)) Wishing you a speedy, complete healing, and a safe and secure future. We need you in our bluegrass family.

So sorry for your pain. Never count yourself out. Jack completely severed a picking finger a few years ago and had it surgically re-attached. I am paralyzed an do videos from a wheel chair; we have challenges and are not perfect, but never give up, because you inspire us. You can rise to your own challenges. Never give up.

I spoke to Jack Lewis tonight and remembered you to him. He was playing a game of solitaire dominoes; he asked me to pass along my best wishes for your recovery and echoed your "Geronimo!"

Hi Bobby, I'm glad you like the videos. I was a music major in college, but I spent my 30+ year music career as a drummer in the Nashville and Chattanooga areas. As you know there's not much demand for drums in bluegrass. Fortunately I moonlighted as a news photojournalist, a skill which works well here. Thanks for your post.
