I think I prefer the graphics only approach rather than the narration. The nat sound and the music all build drama. Of course, this is only my opinion. I will always keep watching. You do a great job.
Yes! This channel should create 2 versions--one with speech narration, and one with the text narration. Shutting of the audio and only reading the closed captions would ruin the music and sound effects side of it.
kym newman In aviation the PIC is the person that will make the call at the end of the day. Unfortunately the PIC in this aircraft accident did not listen to he’s college, as result of dead. F/O couldn’t do anything, so pls don’t say it was the F/Os horrendous decision. Keep in mind that the PIC can detain anyone from crew to passenger, PICs can also write a complaint and most likely get the F/Os/Crews license suspended. If your not the PIC you’re not the one who makes the decisions at the end.
Imagine if the Captain had taken a step back and listened to his F/O instead of thinking he's captain so he must be right. Being humble goes a long way
or you know, turn on the close captioning that he wrote to go along with the narration? so much complaining in the comments yet no one could be bothered to hit a single button in the video.
@@sirmonkey1985 the issue is not that everyone needs to read instead of hear. The issue is that narration messes up the realism and the vibe of the incident. For example for me its just unwatchable now
@@sirmonkey1985 The issue isn't just the lack of text--he's a great video maker, but not a great narrator. As many people have pointed out, it takes away from the video. You disagree and that's fine, but don't go after folks because they have a different opinion
Lol. I'm sorry, my brother. You getting lambasted like this. You do a great job. I didn't think narration was that bad. I prefer it actually, but I think your fans have spoken. Sorry bro. Don't let it get you down. You were always the best aviation channel. Keep your head up. Keep providing us with top notch vids. You still the man. Peace.
I was pleasantly surprised by the audio, I liked it, certainly saw no issues with your voice. But,I guess this is a business and your viewers are your customers,so, majority rules. You’re still the best at why you do. Never stop taking chances and trying new things, that is how we all grow.
I think "TheFlightChannel" did narration before and got the same backlash. No worries. Let the man do something different to keep it interesting for himself as well. I'm sure by next video it will be back to text anyway. I'm just grateful he puts in the work that he does for all these videos and for OUR entertainment.
The narration takes away the rhythm of the video,I also prefer to red these, the soft music and pace of the other videos is very good and do not need to be improved on. Please return to your pervious format.
Barbara Boone I don’t agree with the narration. The silence and the engine sound just make a whole different unique atmosphere that it makes us feel immersed in the event. The addition of narration makes it no different from other documentaries, it is also distracting. Sorry for my English.
Agreed. I often watch these videos at work *quick lookout for boss* where I rarely have the speakers on and also can pause the video at any time if some actual work arrives or a progress bar finishes etc.
@@Rude_And_Tattooed - I was watching a towing and recovery channel. captions said the tow truck's engine noise was applause and the backup alarm was music.
@@Rude_And_Tattooed RU-vid captions suck. They are buggy and can disappear for a few seconds when you pause the video and, unless some human being put them in, they're rarely accurate
And It's a completely different experience. with the voiceover, he's describing the simulation. With just the text and our imaginations, we're experiencing the simulation. He doesn't seem to get that. I think he lucked into his format because he doesn't understand what makes it so fantastic.
Maybe he's trying to get out of his comfort zone. C'mon man! I've seen so many channels that didn't change something about their content and became stale. I applaud him for doing something different from his previous content.
Thanks for covering this crash. I remember it having flown into Resolute with First Air about 10 years earlier. Fortunately on my flight it was sunny and clear and quite a view! Seems like a bad design to have the auto-pilot change mode because a flight crew nudged the column - but ultimately it was the crews responsibility to notice this and go around as soon as anything seemed amiss. Especially in dense fog.
No, the disconnect by flight crew manipulating the yoke is quite deliberate. If the pilot needs to suddenly take control, say to avoid the ground or another plane, he may not have time or presence of mind to hit the A/P disconnect. A/Ps are generally designed both to disconnect on force, but also (on small airplanes) have clutches that allow the pilot to overpower the A/P. This is not just a pilot thing. If (say) the A/P cannot hold a climb because the aircraft is out of trim, it is designed to disconnect. Otherwise it could break something by force. The key element is that the A/P sounds a loud alarm when it disconnects. I didn't see a discussion of that here.
"He tried to warn the captain 18 times, using multiple variations of phrasings but failed to convey the urgency of the situation and make the captain change his course of action"........
i came down here looking for this comment because im not sure if it's fair or not. the video said the capt's compass was off because the proximity to the north pole and in fact incorrectly showed the plane to be getting back on course. it's possible that he thought the first officer was incorrect and chose to trust his own instruments. admittedly the capt probably should have explored further why the f.o. was saying to go around, but i dont think it's as cut and dry as it seems at first.
I have to admit that at first I thought that the first officer had 'mentioned it' but when I read 18 times it did change my whole understanding - if anyone, let alone a fellow qualified pilot, mentions something that much, it has to be worth some proper attention
Holy shit. I was gonna say I like narration, maybe he doesn't have that professional, movie attractions voice. He's no Morgan freeman. But wow, he's getting killed. Jesus. I feel bad. Guess everyone killed the new narration idea. I didn't mind.
Unless there's more to the FO's actions than we see here, it seems tragic that he took some of the heat for the accident. He could see that they no longer were centered on the localizer and he called it out. If the CVR captured him declaring an unstable approach and go-around 18 times as they approached minimums he seems to have done his job as pilot monitoring.
I never wish to hurt anyone's feelings and I do realize all the hard work put into making this video but this was the first video that I just didn't enjoy watching due to this new format. The voice over just isn't working for me. I much prefer to read the text as I can understand the story better. I can stop the video if need be and read the text at my own pace and I understand and comprehend better. This is not meant to insult or hurt anyone's feelings but I hope you will consider going back to the other format. Looking at everyone's posts I think a lot of us feel the same way. Be assured your work is appreciated.
I really prefer the text. Sometimes we should think about people which cannot hear and are left out now. (A good friend of mine is deaf and that's why I bringing it in). Maybe you should do both. Text and voice. It's just a suggestion. Anyway good work as always.
considering most people that are hard of hearing typically have closed captioning enabled by default they would of seen the text that he wrote with the narration.
Morten Kapa not before, the accident, after the accident they enforced better training at first air to encourage co pilots to take control if they feel somethings wrong
@@luuduonghy659 Well yeah but the pilots are supposed to listen to each other and do things together. Then there's these kinds of stories where the captain doesn't listen to the F/O.
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. While I realize the intent is not to sensationalize the events, the absence of the voice seemed to give me a more "in-the-moment" experience while watching. Often times I would find myself silently hurrying the crew as they frantically tried to avoid disaster. Just a bit of feedback, but well done either way.
When flying in this part of the world one sees many aircraft that crashed, some look like bug splats on a windscreen. In the hard to reach areas (sides of mountains) the wreckage remains. Flying to a job in a Beech King Air I am wearing a bunny suit, carrying a 38, a knife, I might have flares, I will have survival food, and I am feeling somewhat "safe" in the comfort of such a luxurious turbo prop. But the evidence of crashes says otherwise. Why the 38? Should there be a crash, the first responders are not always human.
Hell, yeah, those weeks & weeks of miserable time in the Air Force, on SERE (Escape & Evasion courses)....Wet, cold, dirty and hungry.... Brought my 9mm SIG too, because the first responders likely would be humans (-;
Hi! Just to add, your videos are amazing and I (like everyone) am so appreciative of the time these must take to put together. However, from a personal preference, I struggled to clearly hear the narration and - in trying to - my focus was taken off the small details that are so important. Personally, I would much rather stick to the text than narrative in future videos. Love what you do. Please keep up the good work!
I think you need the text too (OR ONLY) - - some viewers aren't going to be auditory learners. Listening takes concentration away from focusing on the video, AND with text, I often PAUSE to slow down the info stream, or REWIND to catch something missed - - that's much harder to do with narration.
The narration is a win in my book. I love this channel and it’s nice to be able to play a video in the background while getting ready for work or cooking dinner.
I enjoy more the videos with narration by subtitles only, it gave it an eerie feeling, more mysterious. Also as a non native english speaker it's much easier to read than to listen to the narration, specially since you have kind of an accent. But still, I like the pace of the videos this way, and as always, the quality of the video is impeccable.
@@kansascitysouthernfan6966 I agree - being hearing impaired, the narrator was very hard to understand - the text and music is better for a person with hearing problems.
You have a really nice voice and a lovely accent! But I have to say, the captions were better. Listening to a voice takes the attention away from all the sounds and graphics of the video itself - which is what you are so good at doing! This is just my opinion :)
Why didn't the captain just go around, even when the first officer urged him, he didn't. Blame on the captain. There should be a law that when any one of the crew says it is wrong and want to go around, there must be a go around. Most of the cases, captain's descision ends up in tragedy ☹️
Allegheny Airlines Flight 485 was brought down in a similar fashion...NTSB made some recommendations, but it looks to still be a problem here 40 years later...Sad.
A first officer isn't just along for the ride. If I had been FO on that flight, I would have initiated a go around by myself and dealt with the consequences later. With all the information on the flight recorder, he would have been vindicated, and if not, he'd still be alive and so would all of the passengers. Some rules are meant to be broken. Nothing makes me more nervous than flying an approach when I'm behind the airplane. Always go around if things aren't looking right, and live to tell the story.
Of course, I prefer the subject content not to be the death of people, but admittedly these videos are fascinating to watch and visually well put together. Thank you.
Forget what everyone is saying. The narration was excellent. We all know you mix it up sometimes and that's fine. I mean damn can a man use his left, instead of his right every now and then?!? Man keep doing what you're doing your true fans will always be there.
"The co-pilot tried 18 different ways to alert the captain the plane was off course." I dunno, maybe "Dude! We are WAAAAAAAY off course and getting ready to slam into a [freakin'] mountain! Pull the [blank] up before we [freakin'] die!!!" would have worked to get his attention?
My thoughts exactly! If that didn't work then the punch to his brain dead noggin would have convinced him to take the damn plane back up and reassess the situation.
CoPilots are thinking about getting fired if they tick off the Captain. Many pay with their and their passengers lives for their timidity. Airlines need to make it clearer that Captains must listen to the co pilots.✈
I feel for the guy who does his job but gets ultimately screwed by a prima donna that thinks because he has more flight hours he can ignore obvious warnings. As Ben Franklin said "You can give advice but you cannot give conduct".
I really liked the new style! With the narration you got over the mandatory facts at the start quicker and could sneak in more details along the way. I think it would be great to start videos that way (but with voiceover and subtitles), telling us more about the background. As soon as the first errors are made / things are starting to heat up, I would just retreat to the old style, so one gets more immersed into the setting. Basically just a little earlier than in this video. I think that compromise would basically cover the main arguments against commentary penetrating the comments right now. Anyways, great job! Never worte any comments although I really appreciated everything for quite a long time.
What makes your videos so unique and powerful is the “text only” format, combined with the sound effects and music. The narration you provided downgrades the overall effect of the video making it somewhat inferior to all of your other superior videos. I still love your channel no matter what!
Please don’t remove captions, people all over the world will be watching your channel, I like this change but please do put captions as well, it will be much easier to understand for people whose first language isn’t English. Thank you !
Since this is the only comment the Flight Channel liked, I'm guessing we're stuck with the narration. It would be tolerable, but too many words are mispronounced, causing a distraction.
*Everybody* - really? Do you not think that's really disrespectful of others who voiced a different opinion? If you were to state that it's the *majority* however... (of which I'm one, btw!)
www.stuff.co.nz... Within minutes after the Boeing 737-200 passenger jet slammed into a hill in Canada's remote Arctic region, military helicopters were landing at the crash site to evacuate the three survivors of the crash that killed 12 people. In an unlikely coincidence, several hundred military personnel in the region preparing for a mock airliner crash training exercise suddenly found themselves plunged into a real rescue mission. .... "They were just hours away from practicing what actually happened in real life... "
I really like the voice because you have no idea how much time I’ve wasted just sitting and staring at the screen, reading every word. Now I can listen while I get dressed in the morning, ready for bed, cooking or cleaning. I really like this channel, but I had to give it up for awhile for that reason. So this is so much better for people that have stuff to do around the house! Thank you flight channel!!
Don’t change a winning formula. Don’t try to fix what isn’t broken. Ditch the narration and go back to text/caption only. It’s why I, and many others, watch your videos over similar videos on other channels. Great work, and thanks for all you do.
An unstable approach is dangerous even in good weather and good visibility! About a month ago PIA flight 8303 started their descent into Karachi airport way too late and landed way too fast and without its landing gear down (possibly because of over speed) pounding and scraping both engines on the tarmac 3 different times before initiating a go around. The damage was done and they didn’t quite make it back around and killed everyone on board and a child on the ground. A stabilized approach that both the pilot in command and the monitoring pilot agree on is absolutely critical!
@@bigcountryspoundcake4513 I was pretty irritated for a second but then I noticed that, hey yeah, she is a bitch actually. A sweet-looking cute bitch. Good girl, Sarah! Come on up on the couch!
I like the narration, but I'd keep some text too! Makes it easier for people with auditory processing problems to understand/keep up. As always though, excellent video!
At least with the audio, I'm not pausing the videos as often. On the odd occasion in other videos, the text moves on before having a chance to read the entire section
Tips and commentary: Channels like Kings and Generals do simultaneous narration and (de)activatable subtitles, which can also be translated into other languages. This way they don't conflict with any on-screen text. I really like how they do narration, but much of that could be due to the narrator being a native English speaker with a British accent. (I'm a non-native myself) In the context of a lecture or discussion I don't mind non-native speakers, but in documentaries it gives me a subjective feeling of inferior quality (which may or may not be justified). Like most fans here, I've grown accustomed to the on-screen text, especially when it comes down to technical aviation terminology I'm unfamiliar with and could easily look look up on Wikipedia (for example, the word "livery" was completely new to me but it has a Wikipedia page which explains it all) if it's written out than when I need to rely on someone's pronunciation. Especially non-native speakers are at risk of getting the phonetics wrong, even more so when it's a rare word they themselves have never heard native speakers pronounce. As a result, the audience can be confused and may have no way to pause the video to look up a word they don't even know how it's written and may be inadvertently mispronounced by the narrator.
Please only text, no speaking. I enjoyed it most like that as it felt more like being part of the incident and made me think more about what is happening. Great video anyways!
Do your own thing, the fact that you put such effort into making these videos for us to watch is amazing and admirable alone, whatever format you happen to do them in, I for one are behind you 100% !!
The PIC was a moron for not listening to EIGHTEEN attempts by the FO to warn of being off course. There is NO reason, and NO harm, in conducting a missed approach just for peace of mind. Instead, eleven innocent people died (the pilot was guilty as far as I'm concerned). How sad and tragic and COMPLETELY avoidable. My heart goes out to the families of those left behind.
I like both voice and text - and in this & other presentations where you've done voice over, it's always been fine. You are a compelling speaker - keep up the great work!
After reading some comments, it's been recommended that you go back to text, with no audio speaking. Music is okay. All of us, would really appreciate that. We thank you, in advance.
@Ms. Tal Than how did you know what I said? Those who don't like to read, are a minority. A select few. Reading, no matter the subject, is mentally good for the brain. You do know what and where the brain is?
Your intro is looking really good. I do like the text only videos better than with the voiced narration. The quietude adds to the emotion of the story.
Poor first officer, who tried eighteen... EIGHTEEN times to save his life and the others on the plane. The captain’s actions (or should I say inaction) is infuriating.
That captain really is a POS. Messes up the compass and controls so there’s less FO is aware of then ego trips.. many news articles said FO wasn’t assertive enough well that Bs. Some people just won’t be moved and that captain I hope realised at last minute what a useless POS he was...
