The What the Tuck is from Elsewhere in Charolette, NC (www.elsewhereclt.com/) and the drink was created by Madison Rathburn. It features bourbon, orgeat and Amaro di Angostura. While everything in the drink is bold and flavorful, the club soda helps lighten things up and create a refreshing and balanced summertime drink. This also would be good just about any time.

Hi Derek, Madison Rathburn here! Some backstory to this cocktail- North Carolina made it hard to get the amaro ango bottle so this drink did not get the chance it deserved, making this video even more special. Thanks for showcasing a drink I was very proud of as an early bartender, hope y’all enjoy! It’s a porch crusher for sure:)

Thanks so much for sharing! I should clean about the thumbnail picture. Usually I'll take the picture before drinking or after a sip or two, but I ended up drinking about half of it before the picture. I just topped it off with club soda and it looked really cool backlit, but not really how it's supposed to look I guess. Just a testament to how much I enjoyed it!

Just made this. Did mine in a shaker though and it got a nice foam after adding the soda. What a great drink. Glad I made it a double!

I love Amaro di Angostura. Such an underrated and unique Amaro. My favorite way to use it is in the Phantom Hitchhiker: 1 oz Demerara rum 1 oz Amaro di Angostura 1 oz pineapple juice 1 oz lemon juice 1/2 oz cinnamon syrup 1/2 oz orgeat 2 dashes angostura bitters Flash blend with pebble ice and dirty dump

I stick a small sampler bottle of Amaro di Angostura in the freezer for a simple nightly wind down. Easily one of my favorite amaro's with those strong Trinidad flavors.

Hi. We have a similiar drink at the five points bar in The hague with bourbon & orgeat but we added amaretto and amaro averna to balance it out. We call it the Halle Berry. The averna and amaretto make it a bit more comlex in flavour due to the orgeat being very 'present' in the drink.

Sounds good. I think I’ll try. I always like a nice paper plane, which uses amaro nonino. I’ll have to get some angostura amaro.

Derek! Thanks so much for this amazing video. For anyone interested this drink was created by my assistant manager Madison (I think for our Summer ‘23 menu). The Amaro di Angostura is one of my favorites. It’s a little sweeter and much spicier than many other amari. It lets you play around with the flavors in Angostura Bitters without needing to use a whole bottle. We love it.

I'm confused that you would use angostura and amaro di angostura.... doesn't the amaro display the same flavor notes? Sounds redundant.
@Imabadman704
@Imabadman704 16 дней назад
@@abilliongazillion356 you would think it would but the flavors are a little different. To us the bitters bring a little extra spice that the amaro is lacking.

What a great drink, I must admit… I did 1oz of bullet bourbon and 1oz of Angostura amaro… was superb 😎

I appreciate that edit with the “Woo!” right on beat with that first hit of Angostura going in the tin. Don’t know if it was intentional or not, but just wanted you to know someone noticed and appreciated 😄

I loved making this drink, although for some reason mine came out kind of a creamy pink, I think it has something to do with my orgeat. Thank you for sharing

Very similar flavors to a Baby’s First Bourbon. 2oz Bourbon, 3/4oz lemon, 1/2oz orgeat, 4 dashes of ango. Served up in a coupe.

Your production quality and attention to detail are second to none of the cocktail RU-vidrs. Will you consider branching out of the tiki world in the future? I feel like you would blow up in popularity if you did a deep dive with all your blind tasting and experimenting with classic cocktails. Like a series about creating the perfect Old Fashioned, margarita, etc.

Thank you! Not sure if I will venture too far from the tiki, tropical, exotic, and rum cocktail world. I've found most of the videos I've done that are more general end up being some of the poorest performance. There's already a lot of people doing classic cocktails well and I'm just not that enthused by many of those cocktails or the background to them.

I've enjoyed Amaro Di Angostura the times I've had it in a bar. This seems like a good excuse to go get a bottle.

Do you think using regular old Ango would be a like for like substitute at the same spec?
@makeanddrink
@makeanddrink 17 дней назад
They have similar flavors but are not a simple 1:1 sub. Angostua bitters in this qty would greatly overpower it.

Sounds delicious. Are you familiar with many Amari? I've got Averna, Montenegro, and Nonino and was wondering which would be the closest flavor profile to Angostura.
@odiec5567
@odiec5567 17 дней назад
They are all super different, the closest you will get is Averna with a heavy dose of angostura bitters to get the needed spice. That being said it's still not going to be the same.
@makeanddrink
@makeanddrink 17 дней назад
I would agree that averna will be the closest. Maybe try bumping up the ango as well but that's just a guess.

Been looking for something to do with Amaro di Angostura! I'll have to give this a whirl--especially with homemade orgeat (I use TJ's unsalted almond butter).

Yet another bottle i cant get in my state :( What does amaro di angostora taste like? A review obline ibfound said it was like if you dumped a bunch of sugar into ango bitters.

I find it tastes like a proofed down sweeter angostura bitters. It was a bit harder to find for me as well.
