A brief history of the Character Options 5" Dalek figures (2005-2023) 

The chocolate Comic Con Dalek has always fascinated me. Like, why did they even make that?

As a Doctor Who fan in the US, I'm kinda upset that these aren't really that easy to find. >:(

Fun fact - the Australian release of the Death to the Daleks History of the Daleks pack actually had the midsection paint corrected, so the black went all the way around the shoulders. As for the future of the CO Dalek releases, B&M leaks mention Resurrection of the Daleks and Parting of the Ways two-packs for 21.99, as well as a "Davros Deluxe set" for 12.99, which is all but confirmed to be a single release of the Emperor Davros figure.

I wish they were more accessable to international fans. I understand why they aren't but still. I just see all of these neat toys and I would have to spend about 100 dollars just to get one of the history of the daleks sets on ebay. That being said, I would order an evil of the daleks emperor toy in a heartbeat. Absolutely wonderful video! (Love the KOTOR music)

Love the Knights of the Old Republic soundtrack. Around Christmas time this past year as of this comment, I ordered and received my first Character Options Dalek Figure, the Damaged Dalek Thay. As my first figure, I grew attached to the little guy.

Man I remember owning most of these. It’s just irritating with the latest releases (B&M exclusive) that the dirty scalpers buy them all and then try and resell them for triple the price.

It'd likely never happen but I would absolutely love a PotW Emperor. Surprised they never tried that.

I really want a special weapons dalek re-release

I have a display of them myself in front of some of my movie steelbook's in my collection. Including the Special Weapons Dalek which I found loose for a kind of pretty penny, but it was worth it as before that I got that, I told myself "One day, I will get one of those." and low and behold, I did. Although the "Dalek with Mutant Reveal" and "The Cult of Skaro with Genesis Ark" set were my childhood as I will never forget going to Argos with my dad and grandparents and getting the latter half of what I just said when the price was a bit more reasonable than it is and what it can go for now. But they are still really great figures as I admire the detail that went into each and every one of them. Even if their accuracy was off as there was clearly a lot of effort in them and there still is today.

I'm actually really glad you did this because I'd been meaning to get myself a History of the Daleks 16/17 pack and totally forgot about it xD My future plan is to put together a Cult of Skaro but with each member in their most iconic forms (i.e. Sec is the black one so no mods needed, Thay I'll take the skirt section from the "damaged" figure and marry it up with a new mould top half, Caan I want to make into a Stolen Earth/Journey's End figure so my plan would be to take the spare skirt section and cut up the top half of Thay to be opened up and destroyed. Caan's mutant will probably be the one from the front opening figure. As for Jast, he didn't really have any unique differences iirc so probably just a standard bronze Dalek figure will do for him)

This is exactly what I needed. Few days ago I got a Dalek Sec at a thrift store and it was a completely different mold to my series 1-3 daleks.

Once Character Options "catch up" with the series, I'd love to see them expand out into some of the wider DW universe, starting with the Time Lord Victorious Daleks. I know we got the Eaglemoss figurines, but personally speaking those aren't really to my fancy. And considering the Victorious Daleks are mainly either straight recolors or minor retools of the bronze Daleks, it'd be relatively easy for them to produce. They were such great innovations of the bronze design, I'd hate to see them forgotten!

Great video I miss all my old Dalek figures. I remember playing with my paradigm Daleks and making the red one the supreme because I loved the old dr who movies. I pretty much had every Dalek figure but the eyestalks would always break lmaooo. But then once they re molded the sculpts then the eyestalks and gunsticks would end up snapping off to the point most of my Daleks were half super glue. Recently got into collecting the eaglemoss Daleks and got a few of my favourites like the gold and black supreme and the SWD on display. Also loving the KOTOR music been playing them again recently.

I love any of the ones that have 60's Daleks, & both the Dalek fighter set & that one Planet of The Daleks set with the invisible & Supreme Daleks look cool!

I still have the Power Of The Daleks and Remembrance Of The Daleks 5" figures from 2012, only one is still mint in the box though

I had all of the old Product Enterprise daleks, probably my favorite designs.

I dont get why they dont do more Big Finish daleks. All they have to do in most cases is use a different coat of paint, and they'd be swimming in money!

The chocolate coloured Comic Con Assault Dalek looks pretty good honestly, and Daleks from the Parting of the Ways story have always been a darker bronze (albeit not as dark as the comic con version) than the standard figures. (See 3.75" Assault Dalek, 12" Emperor Guard Dalek/Assault Dalek)

I remember going to ToysRus to get the remembrance of the Daleks set, one left and I grabbed onto it like it was the holy grail! The SWD being my favourite Dalek you bet I was gonna fight anyone who tried to take that pack from me!

I love the CO 5 Inch Dalek figures and I have nearly all the sets. My favourite is the Planet of the Daleks Spiridon Grey Dalek from the Sound Effects Talking Daleks Wave 1.

Will be interesting to see how Character will approach the paradigm daleks and the history of the daleks line

God, I wish I knew what I did with my Revelation of the Daleks Imperial Dalek I got from a convention as a teenager. I'm American, so I had to part with a painful amount of money for it as it is. And I imagine replacing it's gonna be even more so.

I really wish that Character Options and B&M stores are more common and marketable in the US where I live (Specifically North Carolina)

Since an ex got me into Collecting the boxed sets their have only been a few I’ve missed mainly TARDIS sets, the five Doctors set and I think the companions of third and fourth Doctor set because a good chunk of those never made it down south in the Uk thankfully I knew someone who fixed this issue for Dalek set 3&4 at no extra cost all I had to do was pay postage.

I’m still annoyed at them for not making the defence drones yet and other figures like modern series Iike warriors and the cyberaid cybermen

Debatably I don't think character have ever got the colour of the bronze Daleks right. I mean compare the one we see in Dalek with the latest B&M release and even the original mutant reveal, it is so much darker and the bronze used on the Dalek... Dalek, wasn't even the same bronze they used moving forward from that point

would like to see a Destany of the Daleks dalek set with a Dalek and a Movellan. Or maybe a Dalek set with Daleks from the early Dalek comics. Like the emperor Dalek, the Black Dalek leader, and a Dalek drone.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a set with Imperial daleks go on sale. And I hope that someday there will be re-release set with a red dalek leader

I once had a golden Dalek supreme and Dalek alpha, unfortunately I have not seen them for many years.

I had the cult of skaro set as a kid but ended up breaking like kids do

I absolutely loved these toys as a kid! I mean I lost or broke most of them but they were great! Most of the ones I still have from my childhood are the classic Daleks, but I also have some of the smaller figures (like the moving Rusty and Dalek Sec figures) and the Tea serving Ironside. I probably have more but if I do they're all in the attic and have parts that snapped off and likely can't be easily replaced. I've only bought two figures in my adult life so far. I bought a Movie Dalek because I love how they look (though I wish they'd make one of the Red Dalek from the first film, there was a prop of that Dalek in a bookshop I'd go to that's long since disappeared because it wasn't in a great state) and also the Dalek Mutant Reveal figure, because I always wanted that as a kid. Planning on doing some stop motion with the Daleks I have.

A dalek set I kinda want to see is a three pack of the dalek alpha, Omega, and Bata

I still remember the cult of skaro & genesis ark set being £30. Got it for Christmas n as an 11 year old in 2007, it were class. Still regret throwing it away after I lost interest in doctor who around 2011.

Daleks really are the seekers of the who toyline. New colour, new name and bam! You can sell the same mold over and over. And when that gets tired, retools

The classic Genesis figure is still the peak of Dalek toy design, second only to Davros.

Now if only they did a proper Emperor Dalek figure at that scale... Any of them would do, really.

Great video, going over the timeline of the CO dalek figures! I remember my father giving me the Dalek Collector's Set #2, that was my first Dalek set! Sorry if this is too much of an ask but, have you considered making a video on how you customise your dalek figures, or making a brief video explaining your workflow in painting them?

It'll be interesting to see if they rerelease the Dalek Paradigm figures I've got a feeling they'd do the ironsides, but I wonder if they'd make any differences to the Paradigm themselves.

id like to see a sort of re release but also updated version of the pack where you get a zygon ice warrior and cyberman but with an included additional counterpart from their 2013 versions alongside them in the set.

I got 22 of the brand new Necros Dalek figures to go with my season 22 blu-ray. Got 2 Necros Daleks sets sealed & Will open them on the 40th anniversary episode dates 23rd & 30th March 2025

is there a dedicated website that sells these figures online? I can't seem to find any of the figures I'd like.

I never understood why they changed the size of the figures when previous ones was 5 to 5.5 inch to 3.75 inch and then back to the 5 to 5.5 inch?

Also can you please do the cyberman version of this?

Maybe you addressed this but I missed it. Any idea why they used this olive green color for the Dalek fenders, instead of a more accurate asphalt grey / matte black?
