Specifically requested by my favourite lovable Duck "RitchMitch" I delve into a brief history of one of the most popular men's fragrance lines in the world.
Thank you, George! Your content is such a breath of fresh air. Fragrance RU-vid is starting to become what the fragrance industry became in the early 2000’s. Stale. So thank god for you. 🔥
Dior Homme Sport 2021 has been an awesome pickup for me. The women have loved it on our channel. Not big on Dior Homme Parfum or Intense, but those were discontinued from the US market. I'm curious if they change Dior Homme Cologne 2022 much, the notes listed are the same but you never know. Dior Homme 2020 to me was for someone who didn't want to wear a loud fragrance, which makes sense with the heavy use of Iso-E Super.
i was so inspired by your video about travel, i visited cappadochia this new year, and flew in a baloon:) i wore ombre leather, since i couldn't find zaharoff here in serbia. thank you for the inspiration
Spot on! Dior Homme Cologne is actually my signature scent. I layer it with Bois Blonds by Atelier on cooler days and when I want to provide some , body to the scent, but stand alone, DHC is a modern citrus floral masterpiece.
so this is some serious conversation! thanks for always bringing up the level in terms of fragrances content. dior homme 2011 turn on my interest in fragrances, and dh intense made me collect them, so this is a pretty special line for me. DHI the best of all imho, greetings from Chile! you the MVP!
I completely understand the community being frustrated with Dior, and all their reformulations. However, I respect the changes they’ve been going through. They remain my favorite designer house because they always find a way to set trends and be on top. They needed the Sauvage line to stay on the map with the general public and department stores. Also, sauvage has its place and it put ambroxan on the map. Sauvage elixir was a bit risky and it stands on its own as a masterpiece in my opinion. Dior Homme 2020 is an awesome fragrance, and to me it wasn’t something they did to throw away their legacy, it was just their legacy evolving with the times. Dior Homme 2020 is one of my favorite everyday colognes because it avoids smelling like a basic blue/aquatic/shower gel/ sweet freshie like all the other mass appealing scents, and instead leans woody/airy/masculine/elegant/sophisticated. I still love and adore the classic Dior Homme and I also find that Dior Homme Original is the best in the line with DHI in close second. But those fragrances are nowhere near as versatile as Dior Homme 2020 and that line needed a Swiss Army knife which they failed to achieve with Dior Homme Eau - which is great, but only for spring and summer imo. Dior Homme 2020 can be worn all year round with ease and it’s the only one in the Dior Homme line that has that kind of versatility. You have to respect that.
Dude: I bought Oud Aromatic, blindly, after watching your last video. Kudos! I was sitting on the fence but when you brought it up I pulled the trigger. No regrets. I've been wearing it since it arrived (three days straight). My only complaint: longevity/sillage. I'm hoping it was because of the shipping so I'm going to let it sit for a bit before wearing again (it's hard!!). Anyway, thanks so much for the recommendation. Life changing. I have 40 fragrances now and this shot to number one. Thanks!
Another absolute banger of a video This channel continues to be the epitome of niche fragrance discussion. Maybe not for everyone. Actually definitely not for everyone. People don't have the attention span to appreciate this kind of stuff. They want it fast and hard and full of deceitful top notes. But we're all base notes here baby George sign my girlfriend
I’ve made it my quest to collect all the Dior Homme fragrances, even Eau. Technically 3 left but I need the Original as well. Also, I wish your lengthy video of Dior Homme 2020 was available George. I freaking loved it!
Just picked up Dior Homme intense because of your channel. Went to Ulta and sampled Dior Homme ,Dior Homme sport , Dior Homme Like the intense , went pack a week later and all Dior fragrances had been pulled from shelves! Had to buy online .
I'm a recent discoverer of George, so forgive the late posting, but...I'm absolutely puzzled by his dislike of DHP here, but at the same time, I can understand him, to some degree, at least. When I first smelled DHI and DHP a year ago, at the beginning of my frag journey, I despised them both. Now, a year later, and after trying literally hundreds of designer, cheap, expensive, mainstream, niche, etc., I think DHP may end up being my favorite fragrance ever. For me, DHP goes right up there with the greats, like Elysium, Naxos, etc., as it's the closest thing in quality and overall profile to a high-end niche scent from a designer. Perfection in a bottle, IMO.
I haven't been involved with fragrances long enough to have experienced the Dior line prior to the 2020 release, which I have in my ~8 fragrance collection. I cannot speak to the others, but I think Dior Homme 2020 would have been wildly renowned under a different name. It's very good and I get more compliments with it than any other fragrance I own, and I own some popular ones - allure homme sport eau extreme, la nuit d'lomme, cedrat boise, etc.
Oh my god I’m so glad I found this video!!! Today I bought Dior Homme for the first time ever. It was not entirely a blind buy, but certainly a buy with one eye closed and the other one squinting. I knew Dior Homme was hot, I knew it was a save buy, so I just sprayed it on the tester, briefly sniffed and then got it. Back at home, I sprayed it all over myself and .. to my horror I just thought “wtf is this??” This is NOT what I expected. It was nothing like the Dior Homme I knew from years ago. Nice green Top note that just dissolved into a stale leathery smell just minutes later. This is Dior Homme 2020 to me. Green and leathery. The green is nice and invigorating, but the stale leather scent is almost vomit inducing. I didn’t get it at first until I did some research and found out that they changed the formula! I’m now hoping to be able to return the 2020 version and already ordered the original from the Dior website. It’s a shame they didn’t post a disclaimer in the store. Now I’m kinda afraid that “the original” will be similarly disappointing.
Dior Homme is my favorite line! I have bought sooo many back up bottles that I nearly have a total of 20 Dior Homme bottles. Vintage Dior Homme sport, eau, vintage bottles of intense, Homme original, and parfum.
Bought 200ml of Dior Homme Cologne 2022 (same smell as 2013) for my signature scent. Got Travalo Milano travel spray to pair with it for reapplying. Loving it.
This version of Dior Homme was made for the American market, Macyˋs, to be precise… i guess Dior thought would be more appealing to the american market than the original DH. In fact, DHI cant be found in the US (stores, i mean), but it easy to find it here in Mexico…
I loved the Iris but the one I tried first was DHI and thanks to my skin chemistry, the sweetness was boosted. A similar thing happened with DHP as well whereby the darker notes overshadowed the Iris. So I tried Dior Homme OG and boy does it do everything that I've always wanted. The Iris is front and centre but its not overshadowed by any other notes. Its just bright and brisk with a lot of Iris. That's why its my favourite. Sadly with how things are going, I really think it's going to get the ban hammer soon but with how Dior kept the Parfum around as an exclusive, i'm gonna hope the OG stays around too 👍
This history lesson does make sense. DH2020 nearly turned me off to the entire line before I got a sample of DHI, which lured me back. Since then, I've acquired DHO, DHP, and DBC. Depending on the situation, each one can be perfect fragrance, so no use picking a favorite. However, DHC is beginning to disgust me with its nauseating floral accord. It DOES NOT smell like 'iced lemonade'. If I could only keep one...DHI for its gorgeous dry down and performance.
Excellent. My favorite from the line is Homme Intense, I can never get enough of it. I didn't care for the new one (2020) when I tried it a couple of times at the mall, it just seemed uninspired and bland but maybe I need to wear if a few more times. Cheers, George. Keep the videos coming
So glad I have two bottles of Eau in my collection. Actually really love it, although I wish the projection was a little louder. Will be using cautiously from now on. Dior homme original will forever be one of the most innovative fragrances ever.
I wish you could see my Dior Homme collection. I’ve spent 2yrs collecting. I even have a MFK Dior Homme Cologne (silver stem) Your Dior Homme and DHI reviews from your early years are what prompted me to buy all 20 bottles of the line that I own!
Amazing video 🔥 All the reformulations have been so confusing but thankfully i do still have a bottle of Dior Homme (prior to the 2020 version). I miss the original version of Dior Homme Sport which was brilliant + i'm kicking myself that i didn't get any spare bottles of it
The original Dior Homme Sport is actually the ginger heavy one that smells like orange Tang. Quite close to Zara's original Orange Zest which.....was also discontinued. And the original Dior Homme Cologne (2007) rarely gets mentioned but....I actually prefer it over the 2013? And now...DH has 2 different formulas with 4 flankers, 3 of which smell like their original releases. 😵💫 Easily one of the most confusing lines ever created.
Honestly as an owner and lover of both dhi and homme2020 I think I prefer this move now in 2024. homme2020 makes a point to buy the regular version of the line and expands it rather than everyone just going for dhi and dhp, and in my mind when I smell the dhi and 2020, the connecting link is that woodsy scent- 2020 pushes the woodsy scent to an every day fragrance and capitalizes on it, dhi pushes it back a bit with lots of lovely sweet vanilla and cocoa, and that lovely date night iris! day and night, both have their place in Dior Homme.
L'Iris était utilisée pour des lavandes anglaises. Certains disent la proximité de Dior homme 2005 avec Iris ganache à laquelle on aurait ajouté du cuir.
I love the parfum. Hard af to get but I woke up to a fragrancenet search for it every morning till my eyes did a double take and I bought it immediately. It sold out within the hour. I want another one. I hate using it at the cost of the level dropping. DHO, DHI and DHP are in my top 10 out of the 200 frags I own. they smell like happiness.
Dior homme line is my favorite designer house love the parfum and the intense 👍 looking forward to see kurkdjian is going to do with the line. Was a pleasure watching 👍
Video I've been waiting for from you, didn't disappoint! 👏 DHP still my favourite, the Original close second. Never liked that weird pear note in the Intense, find it the most feminine leaning too, plus GF isn't a fan...You might like the 2020 DHP 100ml version more than the previous 75ml version - some apparent slight reformulation means it's less heavy and lost that hint of "charred meat" smell that was mildly present previously!
@@MPerry-ox9qb it’s really good. Much better than the last iteration. I wore it a few days ago and got a solid 7 hours out of it and caught whiff throughout the day. Stays on clothes a lot longer as well.
Im glad you do these! It shows an actually interest in the hobby. I’d be interested to see fragrance house evolutions. Maybe your take on Frederic Malle?
Dior homme parfum was a huge flop , my good friend is a Dior rep and she said people on RU-vid are no more than 50 accounts hyping it up but in real world Dior homme intense outsold it by over 500,000 bottles that’s why it’s been cut from Uk , us markets as it’s only a very small amount that sell in paris , also she told me that FK is doing a version of Fahrenheit absolute elixir
I appreciate a discussion of the development and change of a work of art when so much of the fragrance videos are about acquisition and immediate gratification; may more fragrances take risks for the sake of capturing romance in a bottle.
No, not LVMH. I just used documentary footage from David Hoffman in that video and he stated that he wanted me to licence the footage from him properly which is completely his right but I haven't got round to making that deal as of yet but I plan to ASAP.
@@TheFragranceApprentice Oh ok. I see. Perfectly understandable of course. I hope you can make that deal. It's one of your most impressive vids (although there are so much more gems you did), very intelligent and so well put together. So it should be there, proud, on your channel!
I really think Givenchy is see that space that Dior left and going "alright then, I'll be taking that!" Case in point is the new reverse prive. They still have a bit of the mass appeal going on but they're twisting it with something different
I have the silver stem Homme. It is great, but I haven’t worn it for like 2 years. I have the Parfum and love it. In addition, it always gets compliments. Sexy.
I have the OG, Intense, and Eau. Eau is probably my favorite if I were to be honest, but the OG is the most versatile, and the Intense is the most dressed up. I just ordered 2020, even though it is different from the rest, and will probably get the Parfum at some point.
Aside from the great review, with the subtitles on, the perfumers mentioned on this video are as follows: - Olivier Poge - Olivier Pulge - Francis dimashi - Olivier apologies - Olivier Polish - Francis Tomashi - Francis Kerjan - Francis Dimarci
think this shift in focus to mass appeal was evident after the launch/relaunch of the Maison Christian Dior Collection in 2018. However, I really enjoy Homme 2020 and I'm happy to let the big sellers fund more niche-esque lines like "MCDC". I'm really excited for Kurkdjian and I would love to smell his Homme Cologne from 2007 but it seems incredibly difficult to track down.
Thank you! I've so been needing a breakdown of these, it's like you read my mind. Good stuff. OK, here's the other thing, related to this, that is also constantly on my mind these days that I would LOVE you to make a video of...All of the "post Dior Homme" related frags. Starting with Olivier Polge's continuation of what he did for Dior with Valentino Uomo. Then Uomo Intense vs Dior Homme Intense, and all the other iris/cocoa/leather frags that followed. There are the obvious and lesser entries from Givenchy and others, but then there's Tom Ford's F'ing Fabulous (I don't see iris listed but I know it's in there) and Tiziani Terenzi's Maremma...There are so many! I have a few but I need help sorting these out. I'm on a roll...then how about Dior style iris vs Prada style iris. I love all of the above but I must say Prada's fantasy iris is goddam brilliant and I reach for it a bit more often than these makeup iris with cocoa and leather offerings. OK, I'm done. Thank you!
