The defendant has some nerve acting so annoyed about the plaintiff taking 7 months to register the camper when she NEVER did. I live in MA and she knew whether it was on the road or not, it needed to be registered and titled in her name. Nasty attitude when she started the domino effect by jumping title. You can't jump title anywhere.
her attitude about having to pay the taxes she tried to skip on is wild. even if the plaintiff did the registration immediately, the defendant still would have to pay. it’s her own fault! it’s annoying to shell out a lot for taxes but it’s no one’s fault but her own - she should be mad at herself & not the person who bought her camper. some adults are so unable to take responsibility it’s astonishing but not surprising at all
@@MrV41N It’s ridiculous for you to attribute the problem in this case to the fact that both of the litigants are women. That’s just your glaring bias on full display. The fact that they are both women makes no difference. The defendant caused the problem by jumping title, whether due to a sincere misunderstanding of the law or just a way to avoid some taxes. If you replaced these women with men, please tell me how that would change any of the facts of this case? Do you just assume that no man has ever jumped title when selling some sort of vehicle? Because I have definitely seen several instances of men doing exactly that on The People’s Court.
It’s the classic “How dare you take so long to notify me of my own wrongdoing” type of thing. She cut corners and didn’t realize how it would affect her arrangement down the line.
Right she is just so concerned about paying back the taxes and doesn’t want to. You see how she said “I know its going to be a lot of money” she didn’t want to be bothered with her own responsibility, then had the audacity to block the plaintiff
Ha exactly what I just said to my husband. She's schiesty as the day is long. Set that girl up and thought she could just use the "as is" thing to f**k her over. Wait...maybe she IS that dumb (she just doesn't know it) 😆😆😆😆
100%, she knew what she was doing. She didn't want to bother with the taxes, you could tell she wasn't happy about doing it. She just wanted the camper gone and wash her hands of it.
I DON'T BELIEVE FOR 1 SECOND that the Defendant doesn't know how register a motor vehicle. Acting all innocent, asking JM what she needs to do. Give me a break.
It’s rich that she’s saying it took too long for her to register after half a year when she herself literally never registered it. That’s some fun logic. 🙃
Idk why the defendant thinks she has the gall to be irritated when she was the one who made the mistake in the first place. Even if the plaintiff waited, she knew damn well she couldn’t get away with not paying taxes… she knew what jumping title meant. She just didn’t want to be out any extra money
Like JM said, if she had kept it and never sold it then okay she gets away with it. But it’s worse to acquire a product that then has to be yours forever (aka never sold, never to potentially appreciate or get back most of the purchase price back) than to just have paid the damn taxes and been done with it
Me too. Or requested the judge put a time limit of a month on registration of title, after which the deal is undone. The defendant had time to register the title in her name before the court date, and she didn't bother.
I get that the defendant is annoyed that she has a bill coming that sue wasn’t expecting, but to just not respond to the plaintiff is a nasty thing to do.
@@colleenknapp8626 hmmm , why do i think the plaintiff already used the camper and now she was hoping to get a free camper rental by getting her 1500 back ? she must have known when she bought it that there was no title with the defendant's name on it . also the buyer is responsible for paying one of the 3 years of sales tax .
@@The_Real_Mier well she had two months of spring weather to use the camper and months before when she bought the camper from a private party , she was not given the title so she knew there was no title when she bought it , so thats my logic , no wild imagination necessary .
Milian is being WAY too patient and helpful with the entitled and rude defendant, who blocked the plaintiff when she didn't feel like dealing with the problem that was her fault.
I wouldn't have settled either. Already missed her trip, plus the hassle of court. Just give me money back and come get your camper, I don't care to jump through more hoops to get it resolved.
JM should have put a time limit on this lady registering it. The plaintiff already told her what she needed to do. She could have done it before the court date, but she didn't. Not sure she will follow through.
If the defendant moved to New Hampshire right after selling the camper, then it really doesn't matter if the plaintiff waited 1 month or 6 months. The defendant was always going to have to head back to Massachusetts to sort this out.
This is one thing that you can't back yourself out of. What is she supposed to do??? Just have a camper she can't do anything with??? She can't even sell it again. It sucks it took her so long, but it doesn't change anything
Yeah, and if you really think about it objectively, the new owner practically did the same thing as the old owner. Why take 7 months to go down and register it? Same reason as the first lady. Didn't do it until it was NECESSARY!
@@manthony777 I paid a couple of years back for a beautiful 1950s pop up trailer for 1,200. It was immaculate! Damn I wish I could share pictures on here!
Most definately! It was exactly what she was looking for at a great price..now she will obtain it for this upcoming summer. The Plaintiff should have gone to the DMV right away but probably would of still had to deal with the non-tax paying defendent difiance on not wanting to pay the registration fees..@@chynacash3138
Defendant is mad that plaintiff "took too long," when defendant never registered it at all. This was the equivalent of her selling something she didn't own. She knew what she was doing, and she had a lot of nerve ghosting plaintiff. What a nasty woman.
Yeah, and if you really think about it objectively, they both took TOO long. The new owner practically did the same thing as the old owner. Why take 7 months to go down and register it? Same reason as the first lady. Didn't do it until it was NECESSARY!
The judge is not often as patient as she was with the defendant. Asking the judge of all people to tell her what she needs to do? That's not the judge's job. And then whining after essentially trying to break the law and is just mad that it caught up with her? I wish the judge scolded her like she has in cases where it was undeserved.
If the Defendant had done what she was supposed to do when the Plaintiff first told her there was an issue, there would have been NO LAWSUIT. The Plaintiff should have just returned the camper and received her 1500 back. I doubt the Defendant is going to follow through with the Judge's order and the Plaintiff will be back to square one.
Yes, but the Plaintiff really wanted this camper at this price plus she would have to drag it back 25 miles to the defendents place and could be picked up by the cop pulling it on the highway with no registration. All stems back to defendent not paying the sales tax initially.
She paid pennies on the dollar for that camper. Yeah, and if you really think about it objectively, the new owner practically did the same thing as the old owner. Why take 7 months to go down and register it? Same reason as the first lady. Didn't do it until it was NECESSARY!
There ain't no way in hell that lady is going to go to the DMV and register it in her name so this lady can go camping 😅 you can tell by her facial expressions towards the end she is thinking ain't no way I'm going to the DMV 😂
@@teacupmagick7030 Yup and the next judge would 100% award the plaintiff her $1,500 judgment at that point and that nasty woman would have to pay out of her pocket to get the camper towed back to her unless she abandons it.
@@chynacash3138 and possible more damages awarded to the plaintiff, by using this PC video as evidence that she knowingly did (or didn't) do all this, then said she would and didn't Again.
I wouldn’t have accepted this settlement. Give her the burden of the camper again and make her pay taxes on it. The defendant ruined a camping trip and had the nerve to ghost the plaintiff who was completely reasonable and didn’t rush her at all? Disgusting. Hope MA forces her to pay penalties for being so late.
This should have been common sense to the defendant! If you don't have a title then you don't have anything to sell! Doesn't matter how long it took the plaintiff to register. If she wanted to SELL the camper to the public then it had to either be done legally or send it to the junkyard.
The judge said it might only be a couple hundred dollars for the defendant to get the registration updated. The defendant waited 3 years so that registration fee is going to be a lot more than $200. Cause the fact of the matter is if you wait several months or even years to update the registration and title on a car, boat, camper, full-size RV, or even a trailer that tows a car the DMV loves to charge extra late fees, taxes and penalties. So the defendant might end up paying what the plaintiff paid her for the camper just to get everything up to date.
The DMV has every right to charge a late fee. Especially when it is 3 yrs too late. Your ‘DMV ‘loves’ to charge…’ is not warranted here. (Nope, I don’t work for them)
The defendant sounds like an Airhead because you didn’t put it on the road. Doesn’t mean you can sell it in some one else name. I do feel like she was trying to get over.
‘IN MY MIND’- In your mind lady, it’s dusty & filled with cobwebs! Your kids could have slept in a tent, not a camper. Just b/c it’s not on the road, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be registered/ RETITLED. It’s considered a dirty title. You can’t sell it. That means, that ‘as is’ sale is VOID. PS PAY THE TAXES & REGISTER IT.
"I Had 30 people at my house.I was trying to have a party." Oh my god, really lady. Like you never expected that day was gonna come. What an entitled whiner.
The plaintiff only sued because ole girl blocked her. Had the defendant just did what she was supposed to do and fixed the title situation, then all of this could have been avoided. The defendant got lucky with Milian. Because usually Milian does not care and would make you just return the money.
@@michelehemlokhexwhite4310 Exactly! If she was playing games about going before, what makes Marilyn think she's going to go now just because she's suddenly willing to "cooperate"? Plus she tried to use the 'as is' clause as an excuse for never transferring the title in her name. When even if the Plaintiff had of checked when she first got the camper, they would probably still be right where they're at now.
Once the defendant pays the taxes and gets the title paperwork done, they can "Hand Carry" the title paperwork to the capital building that prints new titles that same day rather than wait weeks for them to mail the new title to the defendant. I do it all the time, you just have to tell the clerk handling the paperwork that you are wanting to hand carry it to the department of revenue and they will put everything in an big envelope for you.
Hers what I don’t like about paying taxes when titles change hands. When any vehicle is purchased, taxes are paid on the full value. When it changes hands, why would taxes need to be paid again? I call that double taxation.
I don't understand why the defendant is getting mad at the plaintiff for not registering it when the defendant repeatedly said the reason she didn't register it is because she didn't have it out on the road, well the plaintiff didn't have it on the road either so according to the defendants logic she shouldn't be getting mad, also when the judge started talking about how the defendant didn't have the right to sell it she knew the judge was going to order the trailer back to her and for her to return the $1,500 to the plaintiff so she quickly started talking about what she needed to do to get the title in her name 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ I was hoping the judge would just order the trailer back to her, the defendant knew exactly what she was doing and I do not believe that she didn't have it on the road.
The defendant knew EXACTLY what she was doing by not registering the camper. She knew EXACTLY why the plaintiff couldn't register the camper, it's just like a car: you have to get a title in YOUR name and then sign it over. I'm kind of surprised why the Plaintiff didn't realize that the title name wasn't the name of the seller (ie the defendant), that would be my number 1 question. All the defendant had to do was download the form online, fill it out, print it out, go to the DMV early in the morning and title it + pay the sales tax. She just wanted to be cheap and not pay the sales tax since "it never hit the road". It doesn't matter if it never hits the road, it still needs to be registered under your name. What would have happened if a tree took it out and you wanted to file an insurance claim? Oh wait, you can't do that because the TITLE ISN'T IN YOUR NAME. Yeah, the plaintiff should have done this sooner but I understand her train of thought, why get it inspected and registered if you're not planning on using it for the next 6+ months? Also, this could have all been solved if the defendant was up front about the state of the Title not just, "I never took it out on the road". Yeah, going to the DMV at 7am on a Saturday isn't fun, it never is but if it helps another human being out, why not? Then you'll never have to deal with it again. She can be out of your hair.
Pay the lady!! The defendant doesn't want to take any responsibility for her unfinished business! Sheesh!! Whether it was 7 months or 7 days! Pay your taxes! 😅 bum ace 😂
The defendant looks thrilled with the verdict, haha. If that camper had been involved in any sort of accident the person still on the title would have been responsible for damages.
Her attitude is wild. She never asked for a refund she asked for what she paid for which is ownership of the camper. She’s lucky because I would’ve said no send me my money back because you want to take me through the ringer. She hasn’t registered in years so I’m not going to trust she will now
You can't jump title. Duh, how does the defendant not realize that you have to register something in your name saying you have the right to sell it. That's how we know a vehicle or vessel isn't stolen
There are plenty of states where there is no sales tax on private party sales...."title jumping" is not a thing. Obviously, this will only work if the buyer's info was left off the title. Generally, you wouldn't have a title if the vehicle was stolen....
The Defendant is completely at fault, and definitely entitled. Everything going on in her life is more important. Plaintiff is also at fault. She got a good deal walked away, forgot about it, until a week before her trip. She didn't bother to check the title before completing the sale? You walk away with a bad title on your own. Most people in this day and age, finish this type of sales at the Motor Vehicle's office, for liability and title issues.
Rumor has it the back taxes and title work cost the defendant $1900 plus the People's Court ordered her to surrender the clean title to the plaintiff and pay the court costs 😂😂😂😂😂
That interviewed Doug or whatever at the end ALWAY says the stupidest most cringeworthy things to the people. I feel embarrassed as soon as the litigants walk out of the court! Also, I cannot believe the audacity of that woman trying to sell the camper without registering it, AND trying to get out of paying her taxes. Who does that except a CROOK. No one should cheat on their taxes, especially defrauding the next person that paid money for your vehicle that you did not pass clean title to. I would be so livid if I were the purchaser, I'd want the defendant in JAIL.
I DONT BELIEVE FIR A SECOND DEFENDANT NEVER HAD THAT CAMPER ON THE ROAD. Her kids didn’t wanna be in the same house with her but they stay in a close quarters trailer ? Can’t believe she was annoyed that the lady took 7 months when she had never registered it so that she didn’t have to pay taxes. She knew she didn’t have a clean title if she never registered it and she knew she wasn’t supposed to sell it
The defendant is condescending. Clearly, she thought because it’s the pandemic that she’s exempt from paying taxes and get a free sale to resell and she’s dead wrong.
Defendant thought she could get away without paying the sales tax on the camper… she’s a crappy person, it’s not the plaintiff’s fault that she didn’t do her part.
I live in Tucson where a lot of people have yard ornaments/additional space, and it's legal, as long as you don't have HOA and it's not in the street. Tucson is dirty, all but where the money is, foothills.
I think the plaintive lost value. She traded value (dollars ) for equal or greater expected value. ( Work = Dollars = Freedom = Value.) We work (trade freedom) for dollars so that we can value our time not working. She has yet to realize that value. Her value was contingent on the ability to use the item for its intended purpose. In theory, taxes paid at registration pay for the roads that item will use. Without roads the camper has no value to the plaintive. She will now have the opportunity realize her value, plus in dollars, but if it is true that Time + Work = Dollars = Freedom, she lost time, freedom, memories, experiences that cannot be replaced.
hmmm , why do i think the plaintiff already used the camper and now she was hoping to get a free camper rental by getting her 1500 back ? she must have known when she bought it that there was no title with the defendant's name on it . also the buyer is responsible for paying one of the 3 years of sales tax .
Having a little memory loss here? You already posted this exact same comment! * *Could be the other way around, I didn’t bother to check out the timeline…. Still twice the same fairytale comment!
Why is the defendant acting like she doesnt know what to do? The plaintiff explained it clearly in her messages. The only reason she DIDNT do what she asked is because she knew she would have to fork over $$$.
In this day and age of instant access to information, like the DMV website, there is no excuse for such ignorance on the parts of both parties. I don’t know if non-op status applies to a tent trailer, but at a minimum the defendant could have registered as non operating. And then same with the plaintiff…..🙄 Both will face fines and penalties.
The defendant should have never bought a camper if she feels the taxes that have to be paid for owning that camper are too high! Her kids wanting to sleep over while she doesn’t have enough space, is her problem and not an excuse to jump title! At least she showed her happy personality once JM said: “That’s my verdict, good luck” (13:23) and this bright, cheerful smile appeared on her lovely face…. …. …. I’m kidding: she looks as happy as she would look when realizing she just shat her pants! What a nasty, nasty attitude this defendant overall has!!
The Defendant deliberately did NOT register the title of the camper so she wouldn't have to pay taxes & nothing else. "Why didn't the Plaintiff attempt to register the camper right of way?" This whole case made no sense to me.
I believe the defendant knew she was title jumping. She should have found out what the 3 years of back taxes is (probably a few hundred bucks), and just include that amount into her selling price
I think the defendant truly thought that if she just ignored this hard enough (scrunches eyes shut, repeats mantra "I'm not listening, I'm not listening") that it would just go away.
I wished that the judge would have given damages because the defendant was told what to do and then ghosted the plaintiff. She knew what she was doing.
