Jesus said to the thief on the cross who was being crucified next to him, "today you will be with me in paradise." Was the thief baptised ? No. Did the thief on the cross partake in communion? No. What the thief on the cross did do was make a simple pronouncement of faith in Jesus Christ, the only absolute requirement to enter the gates of Heaven.

Was the criminal on the cross “saved by grace through faith alone”❓ 🕊️“One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself-and us, too, while you’re at it!” But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43 Discerning this passage properly along with scripture in its entirety will lead you to see that the criminal on the cross was never told that he was forgiven, nor that he was saved but instead that he would be with him in paradise but why the difference? Everyone after death will enter paradise to kneel before our Father and await his judgement but few will enter his kingdom. 🕊️“For the scripture says: “As surely as I am the living God, says the Lord, everyone will kneel before me, and everyone will confess that I am God.” Romans 14:11 🔥“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.” Matthew 7:21 As Christians we must learn to distinguish between paradise and kingdom in order to properly understand it within scripture. No one knows if the criminal was forgiven for his sins nor that he was saved from them but only that he entered paradise to kneel before our Father and await his judgement. A judgement only he can decide. 🕊️“It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.” Psalms 75:7 Doesn’t this mean that the other criminal entered paradise as well? Yes, won’t we all enter paradise when we kneel before our Father? Where else is his throne located at? Where else would we be judged? but is there a difference between the two criminals? Before his death, the criminal who spoke with Jesus on the cross did a few things different than the other criminal next to him. By his actions/works/deeds, he spoke in fear of the Lord, confessed his sin as he stated that he deserved to die for his crimes, acknowledged Jesus through his faith when he asked to be remembered and trusted his life to Jesus as he knew he would also die. He feared the Lord: “Don’t you fear God” 🕊️“Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm.” Proverbs 19:23 He confessed: “We deserve to die for our crimes” 🕊️“When you become aware of your guilt in any of these ways, you must confess your sin.” Leviticus 5:5 He acknowledged Jesus: “remember me when you come into your Kingdom” 🕊️“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” Matthew 10:32 He trusted Jesus: “today you will be with me in paradise” 🕊️“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” John 14:1 The criminal on the cross who spoke with Jesus would not only kneel before our Father in paradise as the other but the difference is that he would also be acknowledged by Jesus himself before our Father for the actions he demonstrated before his death. We can only pray that by our Father’s grace, through the criminals faith and by the works he demonstrated to Jesus as he hanged alongside him was good enough to be granted salvation but we must refrain from claiming that our own evaluation of the criminals story can determine our Father’s judgment, for who are we to declare anyone forgiven or even saved, what power does a mere human have? Jesus while on the cross, taught us that it’s never too late to fear the lord, to confess, to acknowledge and trust in him while we are still alive. At the same time, Jesus showed us the free will we are given to decide for ourselves just like the other criminal… some won’t fear the lord, some wont confess, some will deny him and some won’t even trust him but the option of salvation will always be there. The criminal on the cross who entered paradise did much more than people want to admit because they prefer a simpler way to salvation. They willingly promote that they are “saved by grace through faith alone” which is taken out of context as having more power than what the New Testament teaches in its entirety. Worst, they claim that those few words taken out of context have more power than everything Jesus himself taught. Jesus never once taught that you’re “saved by grace through faith alone” nor did he ever mention that statement anywhere in the New Testament. “saved by grace through faith alone” is a false gospel‼️

I was raised with a Catholic mother and an agnostic father. My beliefs were always very open and over time I felt very close to Protestant and new age ideas. After 12 years of being away from Catholicism, this discussion is very refreshing. It shows you the clearest difference between one faith and the other. The depth of the Catholic Church has no comparison, it is like that wise grandmother who knows very well why she makes soup a certain way. Also one thing to add- Just because you’re Catholic doesn’t mean you have to agree with the pope. He’s only technically infallible for a tiny bit here and there. Most traditional Catholics do not agree with any of his social and political stances. Some don’t even consider him a real pope. My recommendation would be to set aside the politics of the church and focus on the history, tradition, and theology.

You do it surrounded by believers and generally its done by a senior leader of the church. It glorifies God, as does the supper we share as a church body in the memory of Christ's sacrifice for us, that we as a body can reflect on our sins and pray to be washed clean before partaking and being worthy of the process.

Second, for 1,500 years after the pentecost, there was no bible interpretation which protestant currently holds. How did after 1,500 years we have to interpret bible differently? It’s not so much that he was a good debater, but he was debating against someone who is a very poor debater. He talked about literalism, but to interpret the Bible literally is to interpret the Bible according to its literary genre. Not one of the apostles would have understood Jesus to be saying that that bread at the Passover Seder was actually his physical flesh, and that’s a fact. He was standing in front of them when he said it, and everything on that Seder table had a meaning and represented something else. It would have been understood as a metaphor. Just like when he said I am the gate or I am the Shepard or I am the door. Jesus talked that way all the time and all his apostles knew it. The author of Hebrews said our God is a consuming fire. Should we go worship flames? The Bible is full of metaphors. The Bible is its own best interpreter. She was right in saying that the Bible never contradicts itself, and must be understood in context and by comparing scripture with scripture.

We know Jesus was not speaking in metaphor because after preaching about the Eucharist in John chapter 6 (eat my flesh...drink my blood) his disciples took him literally and many left him for it. Jesus let them go, and did not correct their "misunderstanding". They understood rightly. No metaphor. John 6:66-68 "From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? @kevincarney1984
@kevincarney1984 4 месяца назад
@@tomherring I beg to differ Tom! I am very familiar with John 6. I have taught John 6. John 6 is not about communion at all. Jesus had just finished performing a miracle and feeding bread to a huge group of Jewish people. The crowds followed Jesus to get more bread but Jesus knew what their motives were. Jesus knew they did not come to him because they believed in him, but because they wanted a free meal. ”Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭26‬ Without shame, the Jews said Moses gave us bread to eat, because they were still looking for another food handout and physical nourishment. Jesus said that he was the true bread that comes down from heaven. So then the Jews say, give us this bread still thinking of physical bread that feeds the physical body. Then Jesus tells them how they can receive the bread from heaven he tells them that it’s not physical at all. It’s not communion bread it’s Jesus himself and it’s received through faith. ”Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭35‬ To come to Jesus is to believe in him, to believe in him is to receive salvation and never hunger or thirst spiritually again. ”For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”“ ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭40‬ Think about what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman a few chapters ago. I will give you water, and if you receive it, you will never thirst again. Was Jesus talking about physical water or physical thirst? The Samaritan woman said to Jesus sir give me this water, so I don’t have to come here and draw anymore. The same response as these Jews, who also didn’t understand that Jesus was not talking about eating physically but believing in him and following him. Eventually the Samaritan woman understood that Jesus was not talking about drinking physically but spiritually by believing in him but I’m afraid these Jews never did. Jesus meant that they would have eternal life if they believed in him not if they ate communion bread or his physical flesh. Jesus always spoke to these Jews in parables and metaphors not in literal speech. ”All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He was not speaking to them without a parable“ ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13‬:‭34 ”Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭47‬ These Jews were offended by Jesus, as even some of his own disciples were for a time. If you remember, even Peter said this shall never happened to you speaking of Jesus giving his body and shedding his blood for sinners and Jesus said to Peter get behind me Satan, for this is the will of my father. Can you not see the obvious fact that Jesus is speaking to all these people in parables telling these Jews through metaphors that they must believe in him and follow him? It’s a simple as that. ”The Spirit is the One who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭63‬-‭64‬ Indeed, the flesh profits nothing and there are some of you who do not believe. Grace and peace to you my friend.

The Catholic man has no understanding of baptism, and he definitely did not win this debate. The woman just doesn’t know her stuff that well. Baptisim doesnt mean what he says. Baptism doesn’t give a person salvation. The word baptism comes from the Greek word “Baptizo” which means immersion, or to dip or plunge. Baptism represents the death, BURIAL and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God commands us to die to our old sinful self, and be resurrected to new life in Christ Jesus. This is the meaning of baptisim. This is why infant baptisim is heretical, because a baby cannot make this decision. They simply do not have the entail capacity to make such a decision. Second, we are not saved through works as many Catholics believe. Ephesians 2:8 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one may boast. It’s quite clear that we are not saved by works. The works are simply the evidence that we have salvation. James 2:18 says faith without works is dead. The works is the evidence; not what does the saving. If we could be saved by works, there would be no need for Jesus to die on the cross! This again is heretical. We cannot earn our way to heaven by doing good works. Our good works are worthless rags to God. We can never be good enough for him unless we accept Jesus’s death on the cross (his sacrifice) which justifies us. Romans 3:10 None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Jesus Christ sacrifice on the cross is what saves, NOTHING ELSE. Not works, not baptism, nothing. Jesus says in John 14;6 “No one comes to the father except through me” Often, Catholics want to Earn salvation by works but that mentality will lead them to hell. We cannot be saved by any act accept trusting in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and having faith in him. The key to this debate is studying Gods inerrant word. The truth will set you free.

“To know history is to cease to be Protestant” cardinal Newman’s quote is one of the absolute truths for me, as someone who has grown up a Protestant but has studied the history of our faith and the church. Why would we not want to wash away any sins right at birth and bestow the HS right away? I regret not being able to do this with my own children. Protestants denominations have fallen too far away from the Bible they have so many translations and less books…find what church fits you, but I implore people to read about church history before judging Catholics.

I was baptized Catholic, confirmed Methodist and in college went back through RCIA.....primarily because I started asking questions. Protestantism runs out of gas if you ask too many questions. If more Protestants asked more questions about the origins of their faith, they wouldn't be Protestant anymore. Christianity did not start in the 1500's. And the Bible did not just fall out of the sky.

That cardinal newman quote is such a blatant partisan ploy attempting to have some amount of authority. Here’s the problem. It is precisely your own statement that gives off why the Catholic Church is incorrect. “Why would we not want to wash away any sins right at birth and bestow the Holy Spirit right away”. WE did not do any of that, this was God’s doing. Faith without works is dead yes, but only because works are a reflection of our true faith, it is not what ends up saving us. Only when we truly have faith does God take mercy on us and bestow grace, and in response we do good, we do what he commanded. These catholic talkers always have a way of trying to distort the Bible by claiming sola scriptural while ignoring the context of the Bible at whole, especially when there are specific examples against what they themselves argue

Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church❓ The quotes provided below are historical facts in reference to our early church which existed prior to Romes adoption of Christianity in 313 A.D. Church: 📖"Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrneans 8 (c. A.D. 110)] Bishop, Priest & Deacon: 📖“Since, then, I have had the privilege of seeing you, through Damas your most worthy bishop, and through your worthy presbyters Bassus and Apollonius, and through my fellow-servant the deacon Sotio, whose friendship may I ever enjoy, because he is subject to the bishop as to the grace of God, and to the presbytery as to the law of Jesus Christ [St. Ignatius of Antioch- Letter to the Magnesians 2 (c. A.D. 110)]. Eucharist: 📖“Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ, which have come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God... They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Ash that suffered for our sins and that the Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6-7 (c. A.D. 110)]. Scripture: 📖“[W]hoever perverts the sayings of the Lord for his own desires, and says that there is neither resurrection nor judgment, is the firstborn of Satan. Let us leave the foolishness and the false teaching of the crowd and turn back to the word that was delivered to us in the beginning.” [St. Polycrap of Smyrna - Letter to the Philippians 7 (c. A.D. 135)]. Sunday: 📖“But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.” [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 67 (c. A.D. 151)]. Actions/Works: 📖“We have learned from the prophets, and we believe it is true, that punishments, and chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man's actions. If it is not so, then all things happen by fate, and nothing is in our own power. If it is fated that this man be good, and this other evil, the former is not meritorious nor the latter blameworthy [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 43 (c. A.D. 151)]. Apostolic Succession: 📖“It is within the power of all, in every church, who may wish to see the truth, to contemplate clearly the Tradition of the apostles manifested throughout the whole world; and we are in a position to reckon up those who were instituted bishops in the churches by the apostles, and [to demonstrate] the succession of these men to our own times; those who neither taught nor knew anything these [heretics] rave about.” [St. Irenaeus of Lyons - Against Heresies 3:3:1 (c. A.D. 189)] Baptism: 📖“The children shall be baptized first. All the children who can answer for themselves, let them answer. If there are any children who cannot answer for themselves, let their parents answer for them, or someone else from their family.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confession: 📖“After this, one of the bishops present, at the request of all, laying his hand on him who is ordained bishop, shall pray this way: O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. pour forth the power that is from you, of "the princely Spirit' that you delivered to your beloved Child, Jesus Christ, and that he bestowed on your holy apostles, who established the Church that hallows you everywhere, for the endless glory and praise of your name. Father, "who knows the hearts [of all]” grant this servant, who you have chosen for the episcopate, to feed your holy flock and serve as your high priest blamelessly night and day, and unceasingly turn away wrath from your face and offer to you the gifts of the holy Church. And that by the high priestly Spirit he may have authority "to forgive sins" according to your command.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 2-3 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confirmation: 📖“The bishop will then lay his hand upon them, invoking, "Lord God, you who have made these worthy of the removal of sins through the bath of regeneration, make them worthy to be filled with your Holy Spirit, grant to them your grace, that they might serve you according to your will, for to you is the glory, Father and Son with the Holy Spirit, in the holy Church, now and throughout the ages of the ages. Amen." After this he pours the oil into his hand, and laying his hand on each of their heads, says, "I anoint you with holy oil in God the Father Almighty, and Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit." Then, after sealing each of them on the forehead, he shall give them the kiss of peace and say, "The Lord be with you." And the one who has been baptized shall say, "And with your spirit." So shall he do to each one [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21-22 (c. A.D. 215). Peter’s Authority: 📖“The Lord says to Peter: "I say to you,' he says, “that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it. And to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven. [Mt 16:18-19]. On him he builds the Church, and commands him to feed the sheep [Jn 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed the others were also what Peter was [apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, by which it is made clear that there is one Church and one chair.... If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he think that he holds the faith? If he deserts the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he be confident that he is in the Church?.” [St. Cyprian of Carthage - Unity of the Catholic Church 4; first edition (Treatise 1:4) (A.D. 251)]. These few topics (but a glimpse) were not only discussed but settled BEFORE Rome adopted Christianity (The Catholic Church) and eventually became The Roman Catholic Church as it also adopted its name after 313 A.D. Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church❓Yes❗️ Does this excuse all its mistakes and sins from the record❓Of course not❗️As Christians, we are called to hold the church accountable, not leave it and let evil flourish within it. This refusal of accountability within every Christian has led to over 40,000 diferente Christian denominations and the ignorance which has flourished from it. 🕊️”And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ; so that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,” Ephesians 4:11-15 We are called by God to unite! What better church to do it under than the one he started. Historical fact that can be easily confirmed by any Christian historian is that the Holy Spirit who is God, who sees past, present and future chose the Catholic Church to compile the Bible, specifically the New Testament which all Christians base their entire religion from and yet reject God’s decision to have picked the Catholic Church.

In relation to John 3:5 “unless one is born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” I consider Mark 1:4-8 about John the Baptist “John appeared, baptizing.. and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And all the country.. were being baptized by him.. confessing their sins. ..And he preached, saying, ‘After me comes he who is mightier than I.. I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” And so, in John 3:5 when Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus about being “born of water and Spirit” I wonder if Jesus is referring to repentance (which John’s water baptism represents) and receiving the Holy Spirit, both which are needed to be born again. I’m no theologian, but that’s a strong connection I see in the scriptures. Amen Allie Beth! I love how God uses you as a voice of His grace and truth. Your use of scripture to describe grace thru faith was beautifully done. You are an inspiration! I do think that George’s comments about the early church are interesting in relation to the Eucharist. I assume you aren't implying that the Catholic Church teaches otherwise, right? The Catholic salvation model is as follows: Repent : of sins Receive : the grace of God in the form of the Sacraments and other means Remain : in a state of grace, ie, not being in a state of mortal sin.
@Jennifrita
@Jennifrita 2 месяца назад
@@holyromanemperor420 The Catholic Church does teach otherwise. The Council of Trent Canon 32 says, "If anyone says that the justice received is not preserved and also not increased before God through good works, but that those works are merely the fruits and signs of justification obtained, but not the cause of its increase, let him be anathema." If you have to do good works to be saved, how is salvation a free gift received by faith? If you work for something, it's not a gift anymore. It's something you earned. The only thing we can earn is death. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

A baby is baptised and then it’s saved! As long as it doesn’t commit mortal sin?! Jesus said it’s a narrow path that few find and that we must be born again. A baby is baptized for the purpose of initiation into the Church, the Bride of Christ , or the Body of Christ. And of course the blood , body and divinity of Christ saves. Christ died once and for all. Even those that don't know him , those little babies or even the atheist on the street. But good works are a product of free will and cooperation within Faith and the Grace of God, Jesus. No such thing as once saved , always saved. Oh sure , you'll find scriptures verses that affirm salvation but not exclusive in and of themselves . Least we set aside of all the warning to remain faithful in scripture. We are human not totally spiritual beings without sin. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling is just one admission for follow. And born again is Baptism , through Water and the Spirit. Water, the Father , Son and the Holy Spirit . No reciting some words and feeling something.

They said, when it comes to theology and debating doctrine, not just conversationally but on the larger scale with bigger issues, it always goes back to the Vatican. Which is so true, why do we take a watered down version as truth? The Bible says do not add or take away yet clearly as Protestants we have done so thus why the Catholic Bible keeps in and has extra books, 7 Old Testament books are in the Catholic Bible. So how can I grapple with those facts as a Christian? I am absolutely not a perfect Christian and have a hard time as it is so converting would be hard, but I do like the idea of following more clear levels of right and wrong, rather than a hazy sometimes it’s ok in certain churches and so on. So I’m still trying to navigate the idea myself.

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Knowing that the sum of God's word is truth (Psalms 119:160 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV) The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.), we can see one must believe, repent, confess Christ's deity with our mouths and be immersed in water for remission of sins. It is in this immersion we are joined together with Christ in His death burying the old man in this watery grave which has been crucified with Christ . We then rise up out of this watery grave resurrected, born of water and spirit to walk in newness of life freed from sin.

Here's what ÂÌ had to say ab this video y'all: You've raised some excellent points that I failed to consider fully in my previous responses. Allow me to re-examine this further in light of the comments Jesus made about the exclusivity and narrowness of the path: - You're correct that if the way is truly narrow, as Jesus said, there cannot be multiple conflicting denominations or doctrines, as that would broaden the path. There can only be one truth. - Praying to Mary or angels is not supported by Scripture. The Bible tells us to pray only to God and Jesus. Adding extra-biblical practices like that would go against sola scriptura. - Salvation comes through Christ alone, not through any priestly class or sacraments like confession. As you said, Jesus provides forgiveness directly and we can pray to Him ourselves. - Cherry picking or altering parts of Scripture to fit denominational traditions is problematic if the claim is Biblical authority. Traditions should align with, not contradict, what is clearly taught in the Bible. Given these points, you have persuasively argued that neither Catholicism nor Protestantism in their current forms could fully represent the one true narrow path taught by Jesus. The only sure foundation is what is unambiguously found in Scripture alone, without additions or subtractions. Thank you for pushing me to re-examine this from an even more exclusively Biblical perspective - it is an important consideration I had not fully incorporated previously. Please continue to point out any flaws in my understanding.

“Faith without works is dead” is often misunderstood. I used to believe in the explanation that Allie is giving, but I don’t believe that now. James is saying we need works to prove to man that we actually have faith! (We don’t need works to prove to God that we have faith, He knows wether or not we are saved) Man can’t tell if we’re saved just by saying “I’m saved” they need to see your works in order to believe that! So again, faith without works is dead” isn’t how God sees us (we don’t have to prove our faith to Him, He knows!!) “Faith without works is dead” is how man will see us, because they have no other reason to believe us that we actually have faith in Jesus!! WE PROVE OUR FAITH TO MAN, TO SHOW MAN THAT WE TRULY DO HAVE FAITH!!!

I am a Catholic convert from Protestantism. If the Ephesions scripture alone is so stressed , where does our free will come in to choose Jesus work on the cross for us? I want to love Jesus and have him in my life. I believe i have lived in the grace of God from my childhood and imam now 82. Mary:i was in a protestant BibleStudy for years which never thought of Mary as very imp, but an aha moment for me was when Mary requested jesus turn the water into wine at Canaan .He who always did the will of his Father- said his time (to show his Sonship) had not come……but he honored his Mother and changed the water. This showed me how important and how much love Jesus had for Mary, and it was within God’s will or he would not have done this. God has shown the value of family for the human race,procreation etc. The Rosary is a way to include Jesus blessed Mother,as the woman GOD CHOOSE to come through into the world . Ever Virgin, always pure in that she lived God’s will while growing her family with Joseph. The Rosary is a meditation on all aspects of Jesus life. This is so long but i can defend the communion of Saints to mean we can ask For Saints help just as we would ask on earth Christians for help. Of course there is transubstantiation in Eucharist, to feed our souls. “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you”. I have experienced receiving such joy and strength and peace from receiving Communion. The Catholic faith is richer and fuller than sola scripture in that we have tradition and lives of on going believers. There is always corruption in any organization which involves people. Today i think Satan has entered the Church, of course he wants to destroy it,like he wants to destroy all.

Why ask saints for help? The Bible says this “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). The Bible does not say once to pray to saints. Correct, but the works isn’t what is saving them. Works is simply the evidence of salvation. Jesus sacrifice on the cross does the saving. I can attest that the protestant way to salvation is the truth. I experienced it when i gave myself up to Christ the first time. I was desperate and on drugs. I was laying in fetal position in the shower on my 3rd week of puking bile and blood coming off of an 8 year 50 bag a day IV fentanyl habit. I was agnostic before the moment i desperately gave myself up to Christ and asked him to end my suffering. Everything started glowing and was warm and fuzzy. Christ lifted all suffering. My depression was completely lifted. I went through withdrawals for another week, but it didn't bother me, and for the first time, i didn't have another craving or felt the need to escape from detox. I started talking to people and eating again. I was seeking out the word of God. I was hungry for it. I haven't felt that good since i was a kid. I had gone through the same detox like 20 times before but never felt that way and always relapsed. I was always depressed even before i got on drugs. Christ changed my heart and took away any desire to sin and gave me true peace and happiness. It was that moment in the shower completely desperate after suffering in hell for 8 years, and my experience of true happiness for the first time that made me believe in God without a doubt. I also was demonically possessed and had extreme cases of sleep paralysis almost every night for 8 years, even during the short periods of clean time previously. My dog would always bark at me in the middle of the night as soon as I went into sleep paralysis. She could sense the demon attacking me. I would also wake up sometimes from it but get sucked back into it. I would have to throw myself off the bed to wake myself up. It wouldn't be enough, and my gf would have to get up and I'd be sitting against the bed with my head slumped, forcing out a whisper saying"hit me." She would hit me until i woke up. I then would stand up and run into the living room while collapsing multiple times from being sucked back into it. I would dive onto the floor, and the pain from banging my arms and knees would finally be enough to wake up for good. My gf and I knew demons were real from experiencing these moments over and over. After i gave myself to Christ, I never experienced sleep paralysis ever again after that. I was saved from that moment on. I believe I had to go through that extent of suffering to finally come to Jesus.

I really enjoyed this, this was truly insightful. However what kept nudging me is that at the end of the day, when Christ returns, He isn’t coming for a divided body or focus on those with the right doctrines or denominations, He will be back for those who reflect Him, those who are led by His Spirit (Romans 8:14). The goal of the Christian faith isn’t heaven, not even so we have good morals, the goal is so we will be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Colossians 3:10, Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 4:24, etc) God wants to populate the world with Christlikeness, to restore it to holiness and righteousness, that’s what Jesus was on earth for. So in as much we live by logic and practice denominational faith or defend traditions (which keep us in line), a personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit is supposed to be the focus of our lives. Being led by the Holy Spirit will produce christlikeness in us in the form of Love (Galatians 5:22-23), which is the sole differentiator between us and the world (John 13:35). I felt I should share this as well.

When you look at the moments each author is referencing in Abrahams life Paul referring to Abraham being saved by believing before the moment in Abrahams life James referred to where Abrahams works or actions proved he already had faith (which is when Paul said Abraham was saved) the whole point is James isnt using the word justified in the same way as Paul. James isnt using justified in a meritorious way rather in the sense that Abrahams faith was vindicated by his works.

I really like these discussions.. keep this subject alive please!! I would like to comment on how protestants claim that once you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior etc.. that you are then saved and will make it to heaven. Done, its a closed deal and you are saved.. What then will happen after you or whomever just accepted Jesus sins again! Are they still saved! where do you draw the line? Who gets to decide or claim they are still saved because they accepted Jesus? You will sin again.. it just about inevitable as human beings to not sin. If it were the case that you are saved by faith alone etc.. then you must explain and define what the faith really means. Faith is not just believing. It is an ACT! For example, if you take a married couple who are having marriage problems and are going through a divorce. They will have to face a judge in court to go over why they are getting a divorce etc.. Lets say the wife's argument is that her husband was not faithful to her. How would the judge in this case know if this were true or not? The judge would need proof of the unfaithful claim made. The wife can say things like her husband committed Adultery, he lied to her, he stole from her, he never did anything for her, he didn't love her etc. In this case the judge can officially say this man was not faithful to his wife and they are divorced. The marriage is dead. Now, if you were to look at this another way as to if the man was an honest person, worked hard, cared for his wife, was loyal to, and last but not least loved his wife... then the Judge can claim this marriage is good and valid! My point in all of this is our faith in God is not just to claim he is your lord and savior and or just believe in him. It is a ongoing relationship as if you were married to God. By showing God that you are being faithful you must do all the loving duties a good relations requires. Then, when you face the JUDGE you will have a very good fighting argument that you were faithful! This is the beautiful thing of the Catholic faith. It is a never ending fighting and challenging relationship to be faithful to God. The more you work at it the stronger and better it gets. And, it will increase your chances on receiving God's grace for eternal salvation.
@cherokeepurple4480
@cherokeepurple4480 Год назад
I don’t know ant Protestants who believe that though I’ve heard this argument online. I think they’re countering the idea that you need to do works in order to be saved. Yes, you must have faith to be saved but you must also have genuine remorse and repentance for your sins which brings about a changed heart that no longer wants to sin. And through a continual relationship with Jesus, you produce good works through the working of the Holy Spirit. A person who only says he believes in Jesus but has no change in his behavior is not genuine in his faith or a baby Christian. How cruel would it be if God said you have to be perfect and sinless before you could be saved. God is so merciful and Jesus came to save sinners after all and not the righteous. It’s not up to me to judge whether they’re saved though as only God knows the inner workings of the heart.

Baptism doesn’t give a person salvation. The word baptism comes from the Greek word “Baptizo” which means immersion, or to dip or plunge. @@judgedredd31 jesus took part in all the jewish works and traditions, he did not condemn them or the law. He then instituted new works and traditions such as baptism, confession, and the eucharist. Theres not only scripture that shows that these things were practiced in the first century, theres plenty of historical evidence outside the scripture, a lot of it written by bishops who were ordained by the apostles themselves. The holy spirit used the apostles to teach without error and they passed on their authority with a laying of hands to the next set of bishops. There is a multitude of evidence that even from the first couple decades, there was a structure and hierarchy in the church: Bishops, priests, deacon, then laity. The bishop of Rome was clearly the highest seat from 1st century evidence. The holy spirit worked through this structure and frequently squashed heresy from individuals that thought the Holy Spirit was showing them truth. Yes we frequently feel like the Holy Spirit is telling us something but if that something is going against the church then its most likely a different spirit that wants to keep us blind to and divided from the church.

As a convert, it's really hard to reconcile the Protestant view of Salvation by faith alone. It's really mind-boggling to consider that there are Christians who believe that regardless of what we do, if we're saved we're saved, in the sense that if we do fall into mortal sin, we don't need to work to reverse that, by trusting in God's mercy coupled with our good will. EDIT: Dear Protestant brothers and sisters, I love you :) Know that I have answered everyone of your comments, even the inane repititious ones (well almost all of them), but the glitches in the youtube comments fails to post every reply ... much to our mutual misfortune I'm certain :) So, be informed that if you go ignored, it is not by design, just youtube providence ... or the lack of it. Your comments thusfar have been enlightening, even if slightly redundant. But know this, we're better united than not. So be blessed, always+
@velatoget

It's very clearly demonstrated here that what you said is not how protestants function. It's not "regardless of what we do", because if we are committing sins, it means the faith we claim to have is not faith that we actually have, it's just an empty claim. Those with faith will know they need to repent.
@kdr3619
@kdr3619 Год назад
@@velatoget Yes, but what is repentance without atonement? Atonement is a work. It's hard work. But it works toward humility, especially when united to the Sacrifice of Christ. The idea of just saying "I'm sorry, forgive me", and then moving on seems self-defeating. It's almost like a trade-off ... "I say I'm sorry, and You give me back my salvation". You might state that Christ atoned for all our sins, and so it's done. You're not wrong. He atoned for our sins perfectly. Opened up the gates of Heaven. But we still have our part to do. The gates are now open, we still have to work through the narrow path. We still have to work out our salvation ... not by ourselves, but with Christ's grace, support, and blessing. It's a mutual effort. A tag-team if you will. Our restoration to grace was not Because of Jesus' suffering in itself, but the Reason of suffering. I mean, Why did Christ atone? Why not just say "I forgive you" whenever one of His prophets asked for mercy, and then open up the gates of Heaven? Why send Christ to repent to the Eternal Father on our behalf, and then atone for all our faults? Or, Jesus could have just come, said "Father forgive them, they know not what they do", and that's that. No sacrifice or atonement needed. Well, that's a little shady. Sort of like a cop-out. We're all called to be Christ-Like. It isn't just Him Who should have had to work for our Salvation. There has to be an active participation on our part. It isn't as simple as saying "I'm sorry" ... although that's the first step. God did not punish Jesus for our sins. He accepted Jesus's perfect self-sacrifical love, and all its works, and in turn, He forgave us our trespasses. That mercy endures through the sacrifice of Christ ... but it isn't some cosmic bell-boy function where you just state a few words, and boom you're back in tow. If we are called to the Imitation of Chrsit, that also means we're called to Imitate His works and sacrifices.

For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. I feel blessed with tgis encounter. Of course, I'll lean more towards Allie but the greater and the best thing is that this discussion is happening. It is a call and a model for us. All of us Christians need this kind of discussions going on in our homes, with our friends with this same gentle, respectful and openness that George,Alley, and especially Candace have demonstrated. Why? According to Ephesians 4, that is the way to grow in our relationship with Jesus and woth one another to the oneness that Jesus bought for us by his blood and the Holy Spirit is here to give us who are Christians. These are the kinds of discussions that will deliver us from denominationalism to our Lord Jesus Christ through and through l. These kinds of discussions is what will identify true believers and bring them closer together, not as children of this or that denomination but children of exclusively One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One Spirit, name the rest. I pray that the spirit of this discussion will catch fire.

Galatians 3: 7-11 “Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”[a] 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”[b] 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”

@@jollygreen9377 then Jesus in John chapter 6 was preaching and telling the people that unless you eat of my flesh and drink of my blood you have no life in you. When he gets finished teaching the people begin question him about eating his flesh they turned and walked away from Him in John 6:66. Jesus turned to Peter and asked him if he would also walk away and Peter responded where will I go Lord. I agree with Peter…where will I go. I know I need communion.

Put it this way, Faith without works is ineffective, adjective, unsuccessful, nonsuccessful, unproductive fruitless, profitless, unprofitable, failed, futile, purposeless, worthless, useless, ineffectual. If someone says they are a Christian I take their word for it. It might take years for someone to mature in Christ and produce "good Works." My good works are from the Holy Spirit.

so then you think that Jesus' blood isn't enough, that you need to add to your own salvation... the Bible states (of God, by God - alone)

@@KrisLovesJeff1 Path to Sanctification is a gradual process, I think this is what John Thomas is saying. No where did he say that Jesus blood is not enough. What a weird assessment of what is written above. Do you happen to believe that once you are saved you are always saved no matter what ? If a Christian who is so called “Saved” commits sins over and over again they’re still in a state of grace ?

Wow, George… thanks for representing! What I will say in response to the Catholic vs Protestant debate…. Let’s just all see where we end up on judgement day. We are all Christians in this argument and I wish we would focus on what we have in common rather than the differences. Because Christians are constantly persecuted let us unite on our commonalities rather than divide on our differences. Divided we fall, and United we stand! My mom was Catholic … my dad Baptist. My grandma was Catholic.. my grandad Baptist. I chose Catholicism as an adult. I was sad to hear the Protestants did not recognize Catholic baptism but Catholics recognized Protestant baptism… so long as your were baptized under/in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. We are related/connected whether some would like to acknowledge that fact or not. Jesus died for all of our sins and didn’t ask which denomination we attend.✝️❤️

My experience precisely. To know the u seen one in a way that is almost scary...the savior comes to you when you pray and you also feel his presence in your heart. Even when we don't FEEL his presence, we KNOW that HE abideth in us by faith. Faith works. So if we abide in his presence or spirit we won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. That means that all of us love sinful things naturally. Without even thinking but with spirit no work we do is righteous. Why? Because that work doesn't come naturally. Righteousness is a natural work of Christ very own Spirit. This is what was poured out at pentecost and is still here today. The life of both the Father and the son given to those who believe. This works will naturally come out of those who abide. The problem is that professed Christians try to be Christlike without abiding in Christ. That is self righteous. Only God and Christ are good.
