@41:27 I always adored the Standard gauge trains, especially the 400E! To think years later MTH/Lionel would team up again to bring back these great trains for new generations, even if that was only for ten years, but it was great while it lasted! 😃
I still have my 226E tin plate train that I got when I was 3 in 1943. It still runs. Also have an original 671 turbine made in 1949. Unfortunately they live in their boxes due to lack of space to run them. I like to stick to the trains made in the 1950s or earlier.
I thank Tom Snyder and the production staff for sharing this excellent 2 part Lionel video. Thank God for Joshua Lionel Cohen, who invented attractive and pleasing Lionel trains, and that he used his astute business genius for us all to enjoy. I love Lionel Trains for many years. My fav is the handsome O Guage New York Central F3 Diesel Engine. Lionel Trains bring me back to my terrific nostalgia memories about my happy childhood times, and my wholesome family life growing up, especially helping me get through some difficult times in my life too. Lionel Trains are still fun and magical today. I attend Train shows with Lionel trains that are so much fun to attend. I hope Lionel LLC continues on with the new Company ownership with David, now headquartered in Concord, North Carolina for many more years and for future generations also!
RIP Tom McComas 1938 - 2024 for TM Books & Video, I love toy trains, and the many videos from that video company, Richard P Kughn 1930 - 2019 for bringing lionel into its 90s boom period, and Tom Snyder 1936 - 2007 for narrating this special 2 part history of lionel trains. (btw Im not sure if anyone else in this special has passed away but if so RIP to them)
From what I've heard from other people sounds like Lionel needs to do a lot of things on top of that. Like bringing in new people to run the show that actually care about their customers for one. I don't really mess with lionel, though I own a few sets made in the early to mid 2010s, so I don't really know how bad their management is such really is.
Many happy memories. I recently donated all my train stuff to the Illinois Railway Museum. Nobody was interested in it and I was glad to give all of it to them. At least some hoarder won't get it so ends up in a landfill.
Really nice and historic in itself look at Lionel, personally I collect both Standard gauge and postwar, thing is I live in the UK and have only been to the USA once, I still get the joy of these models, it’s not all nostalgia
52:45 I have this locomotive and power unit from Lionel! the horn and bell sounds are phenomenal! The only thing that I’m lacking in my collection are the matching passenger cars! Not only the Texas Special, 53:58 even the N&W Class A 2-6-6-4 no. 1218!
That smoke was terribly aggravating to me if someone was using it at a show I had to get away from it or leave the show ! I wonder how many people got chemical pneumonia from it?
