Puddles is a mere 6’4” vs Haley 5’2” . Haley is by far my favorite singer of all time. Just give that girl the phone book to sing and piano with a stand up bass to back her up. Her showmanship makes her the queen of these vids.

Seriously though, Those who do not wear headphones really need to experience the quality of their favorite songs with them on! I was once someone who only listened to music through speakers and the sound quality was fine but, I tried a headset a few years back and I cannot go back!

Puddles has the best hook in the biz since Clarabell the Clown on the old Howdy Doody show (who later grew up to be Captain Kangaroo.) He's also one big dude...Puddles performance of his mashup "Stairway to Gilligans Island" is jaw dropping.

Haley is plus plus in vocals & presentation w/ the ability to execute precisely on a live stage, she's a 'big' 5'2" on any stage. Thanks Boudy for making much more aware of the greatness of this song. I certainly heard it back when Tears for Fears released it, but never fully embraced it. Amazing how much different artists can create new interpretations and feelings from the same song.

Wonderful reaction. So many wonderful artists have been a part of PMJ. One PMJ alum is Aubrey Logan. She has a version of "Can't Touch This" done in the style of Ella Fitzgerald that is phenomenal. One of my favorite Puddles tunes is his cover of "War Pigs". Totally captures the essence of the meaning behind the song.

A very interesting track for your personal listening is Puddles version of Brain Damage by Pink Floyd. The video production and concept and his multiple vocal textures convey the true sense of the mental illness the song tries to focus on, the paranoias, schizophrenia, and mood swings are beautifully portrayed by Puddles, not a ordinary talent

Great analysis, man! I hadn't thought of it that way before. It reminds me (not the song, but the concept) of the way Disturbed changed the emotional meaning of "Sound of Silence." And then to have a third cover that combines the two treatments, is brilliant! Thanks for helping me hear it.

You forget the version by Adam Lambert, also a very stunning performance on American Idol. I always wonder if Putty is the same singer as from The Mike Flowers Pops, his voice just sounds the same. And both guys are called Mike....

He's the clown, but she's the ringmaster (songmistress?). The circus theme and the musical approach is perfect for the lyrics of the song, because the circus is a place where 'normal' people go to be entertained by the people on the fringes, the edges of society...the people from the mad world just outside the boundaries.

This is why I love covers. You get to hear different versions of artists' interpretations of something you think you know. Gary Jukes will always be my favorite, but this one is very good too. Going to listen to yours mow!😊

It's one of those songs that thrives on reinterpretation and a jazz one works for me. I was familiar with the original, then I saw Donnie Darko.

No denying, this is a great rendition of a great song (when is Haley not great?) Another version that you might enjoy is the one by Pentatonix.

You want a crazy weird version of Mad World? Evergreen Terrace is a hardcore/metal band that released the album Writer's Block filled with covers of artists who inspired them through the years and Mad World is on there. Tis amazing and a coooompletely different feel from the orig, Gary, or PMJ.

Theatrics or performance aside, her vocals are what blow me away, just the nuances (not a musician so do not have the vocabulary) and the way she delivers hit me every time. That said you have only reacted to the PMJ Haley, you really need to check her out without PMJ (as much as I love them) her catalogue is even more impressive.
