That's very easy. This lovely and obviously very decent woman. I would imagine the New York Swans, excepting perhaps C Z Guest, had more pretentions, and tougher attitudes.

According to Vanity Fair, her husband slept with everrrrybody and tried to sleep with Madonna (20s then?) -- but she put him in his place. He invited her over to look at his art. He wanted to impress her and because she was American he thought telling her how expensive something was would do that. He pointed to a painting and said "That's worth $5 million dollars." Madonna turned to him and said "For me, $5 million is just one song"

Spectacular house and gardens. Piedmontese Baroque is a very lush style of architecture that is complemented by the French Rococo interior decoration. Considering Truman Capote's acid tongue it's just as well he called Marella a swan rather than a giraffe.

I have discovered a new respect for Truman Capote. To think that he was able to impress his "swans" along with a myriad of other "alpha" types says much about the power of his personality.💯🙂

How people see things so differently. I had always enjoyed his work until I read Capote’s Women. He was merely a vile and envious little backstabber that caused so much pain and heartache to the people that had loved him the most and had taken him into their hearts and into the private parts of their world.
@stephengneri2136

really? must be the social media effect: see comments below. "a vile" "envious"...and more.
@MrCWells3000
@MrCWells3000 3 месяца назад
He didn’t “impress” them- he was a court jester who amused them. Rich people are bored and constantly looking to be entertained; Truman served that purpose until he betrayed them, and then they dropped him.
@sharonmccoin5262
@sharonmccoin5262 3 месяца назад
@@stephengneri2136 Not sure how social media plays a part, obviously you spend more time there than me. Everything I have read about the little man leaves me to fully believe he fits the definition of being vile. He was envious of these tall, slender, beautiful, elegant and wealthy ladies because he possessed none of those qualities. He was so despicable that the wonderful man who truly loved him could no longer tolerate him. He certainly wasn’t anyone to be admired and there are millions of better writers that have come and gone, as well as the ones that still exist.
