In todays video we try out the 7Artisans 28mm f1.4 M Mount Lens. We took a trip over to Folkestone and Hastings to explore the coast where I used it as my only lens. The only other M Mount 28mm f1.4 is from Leica and that lens costs 12x more than this!

Great video! 7artisans are definitely stepping up their quality. Might consider trying one of their lenses for Fujifilm. As always, fantastic video, and awesome photos mate!

Keep your photography videos coming! I love them I own the summaron 28mm, Leicas slowest current lens for M mount. I suggest you try one out. Its actually really sharp and with the iso of the m10 you can probably get away with the slow 5.6 aperture most of the time. It has a little bit of vignetting at 5.6 but really it renders beautifully strait out of camera. I use mine quite often on my m10p. I actually bring it over my 28 summicron often because of the size. Its tiny! Ohh also its fantastic on film too. I shoot in on my m3 often and I used it on my m6ttl when I still had it.

This is a lens I’ve always considered!!! Super cool compact lens that would be awesome! It high up the list of lenses I’d like to try out!

Very cool man I’m enjoying the voigtlander ultron II for my 28mm needs.

That Artisans lens barrel was too long and came apart on me after a week. That Voigtlander 28mm is solid; enjoyed it but in the end...kept my 28mm Elmarit. No more faffing around with 28mms for me.

Sounds like a similar journey

Thanks for the review and comparison. Makes a lot of sense to me. I have the 28mm Voigtlander and l love it. I tried ttartisan and 7artisan lenses on leica before but it wasn’t for me. What made you prefer the Elmarit over the 28mm Voigtlander? They seem to be fairly similar in size. The rendering of the elmarit looks great on your sample photos. Is that it?
@Goughie
@Goughie Год назад
Without the hood the elmarit is tiny! I’ve been using it without the hood more and more recently. The elmarit sharpness is ridiculous, might be the sharpest lens I’ve ever used. I do think Leica does some internal wizardry with the 6 bit coding that adds something to the images I’d be lying to myself if it wasn’t a little bit down to a bit of brand snobbery I guess! And with that value retention, I’ve lost a decent amount of money owning my voigtlanders for a few years and newer models being released

Interesting video mate. I shoot 28 a lot and haven’t yet ventured away from my zeiss 28/2.8.

Never tried one! I remember being torn between that and my Voigtlander at the time! I feel like I’m now of the mindset that f2.8 is all you need at 28mm

@@Goughie these days I’m less boche obsessed and if the light allows me f8 that’s where I’m at! But yes 1.4 in an Irish winter is handy. My video upload last night I used the 28 if you want to check it out

Nice video! Do you prefer the Elmarit to the Ultron and even to the Leica Q? Best regards!
@Goughie
@Goughie Год назад
Coooor that’s a tough question! I think voigtlander for the money are so hard to beat! Great lenses at great prices! The size and design of the elmarit are definitely what makes it the winner for me! The Q… now thats a tough one, the lens on the Q is awesome! And it’s such a great package

@@Goughie I have the Leica Q and am still considering getting the Ultron II or the Elmarit for the Leica M. 28mm is so fun and versatile... Thanks!

Goughie, take this advice from someone who's been doing photography for decades and follows several youtube channels: You have great presentations skills and its fairly easy to follow your videos, not only for your way of presenting but also for its nice-to-great content. I think that this channel will one day "explode" and you see yourself surrounded by hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Keep up! .... ohhhh and leave that digital stuff at home will you? Buy a Rolleiflex or a Mamiya c and have fun :) :)

Ahah! Thank you for the kind words! Last week I took my M6 out for the first time in a while and loved it

@@Goughie You should try medium format. Go to a local flea market and get a hand on a used Rolleicord or Rolleiflex.... believe me, you'll stick to it for years to come. More than a camera, those things are pieces of art by themselves... and shooting medium format is completely different from 135mm. Do you develop the rolls by yourself?
@Goughie
@Goughie Год назад
@@paulodefeyter I have tried medium format, still have a Yashica MAT124G, used to have a hasselblad 500cm and a Mamiya 7. Overall though I think I’ll be sticking to 35mm Yeah I develop and scan it all myself, including colour too

Ya know, all these technical photographic RU-vid videos send people wholly and utterly down the wrong path making them obsess with stuff they shouldn't really be that concerned with. They are distractions which allow them to make excuses why their photos are rubbish - "the lens was soft", "the lens can't open wide enough to give me the best bokeh", "the camera hasn't enough resolution" and on and on. 95% of the world's greatest photographs were shot using systems nowhere near as good as the stuff we have today. A crap image will be a crap image even with a twenty thousand dollar camera and lens. Practice, practice, practice and look at other photographers on Flickr, 1X or any of the photo sharing sites (other than Instagram of course) and photobooks. 99% of YT videos are a waste of space and in fact are worse than that cos they concentrate on stuff that really doesn't matter one jot
@Goughie
@Goughie Год назад
Curious if you found this review too technical?
@MikeKleinsteuber
@MikeKleinsteuber Год назад
@@Goughie No it wasn't compared to most but you happened to be the one review I landed upon at a time when I felt like expressing my opinions about the subject. Probably unfair in your case as it ain't all that technical. However, it does cover gear and is part of the whole business of getting people to think about gear when the focus of photography would be better focused on other stuff. I didn't mean to single you out...
@Goughie
@Goughie Год назад
@@MikeKleinsteuber I don’t disagree at all with your observation that most people can likely improve their photography more by learning more about photography than buying gear, and there’s lots on the channel here about improving your photography, sunny 16, home dev, making the most of your camera settings. But at the same time I can see why someone would want to know prior to spending a lot of money, if what they are buying is objectively good. If you don’t own a 28mm and want to take 28mm images regardless of your skill then your only choice is to buy a 28mm. But if no reviews existed I wouldn’t know which of the many 28mm to buy, and interestingly this review ends on me saying I don’t want it, and that it doesn’t suit many people at all. It feels to me; that there’s equal requirement for RU-vid to have both educational and review content. And I do think many reviews but I’d argue not this one, cross the line in terms of bias, and force people into believing that the next bit of gear will be the next step to your photography which often isn’t the case.

very nice video or review? I don’t like the artisans family. First I don’t like china products, the working condition are terrible, so I try to live without china products. Second; the price between camera and lens is not compatible. Voigtländer, Zeiss? Why not, but lens like a door spy from a youth hostel is not my way. For lower budget, I would buy used. Again, thanks for your thoughts
