In this video, I go visit one of my main teachers, my mentor and spiritual advisor, Johnny Vidacovich at one of his regular gigs at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans. I think it is really important to go check out master drummers in your town. Go hear them, get to know them in person and you can pick up bits of information that start to really enhance your education. I can’t recommend this highly enough!

I saw him many times or heard him on recordings before I moved from NOLA. He is truly awesome. I went to junior high with Jim Vidacovich, one of my best friends back then; I think he was Johnny's cousin, maybe his younger brother, I forget. Glad to hear that Johnny is still rocking.

How does a guy born, raised and lived his whole life in New Orleans have a Brooklyn accent?...I know he's a tough interview because he's a beautiful nutter, but you have to distance yourself from your subject which you did not do..Love both of your playing and passion and the best thing to learn from this is GO OUT AND TALK TO OTHER MUSICIANS.They are not your rivals, they are your comrades!.......

For those who live in or have been to New Orleans or are familiar, it is commonly known that certain neighborhoods of New Orleans have an accent that does sound very familiar to a Brooklyn accent.🙌🏼 With all due respect, I didn’t want to distance myself from my mentor and teacher. I’m not trying to be Larry King or Barbara Walters, I’m just trying to share my mentor with the world. Thanks for tuning in! 🙌🏼🥁👊🏼
