Okay friends, my kitchen is starting to feel like the cottage kitchen of my pinterest makeover board's dreams. Also the rhubarb sauce tastes great, but not as great as my grandmothers. Still working on figuring out storage space.

(The clothesline is what I'm talking about) Hey if you put anymore raw wood in the ground, I recommend shaving off the bark and charring it over a fire for the area of the stake that will be buried. That will prevent rot and prolong it's sturdiness.

Also dumping a bit of cement around the bottom of the logs adds a lot of weight, that allows for wet clothes to hang without pulling it down.

Just a tip.... When burying a wood post without concrete, burn the end first and this will reduce rot in the future making it last for many years longer.

Will the logs themselves rot? Where the logs green or seasoned cut logs?
@chrisbutton5005
@chrisbutton5005 2 года назад
@@bonniemayronne3150 no they shouldn't rot. They'll only rot if moisture can't escape, best thing to do is strip the bark off to allow it to breath and let it dry for a few weeks. Then burn the end before stinking it in a hole. The burning binds the wood fibers stopping it from absorbing water, otherwise it acts like a sponge. 👍

@francisco yes they bite you and bury their head in your skin, you have to pull them out by the head so it doesn’t get stuck in you. I’ve been bitten by plenty of ticks and so has my family and no one has ever gotten Lyme disease. It’s possible, but not as likely as you’d think. Also Lyme disease doesn’t last forever

@denverdubois5835

I love the counter extension and shelving you put in! And the pans on the wall look great. Re, storage, you might build a custom cupboard under the counter extension you already added. Lower cabinets are comfier to use than uppers anyway (although I am short so you may not agree....LOL.) You could also build some custom storage underneath that side counter you put across the window? A big move, but useful, would be to build an insulated lean-to cupboard addition against the house where your water heater is located. Then move the water heater back into that area and put real cabinetry/storage where the water heater enclosure used to be. Built-in cupboards there would be such a nice vintage pantry look! I was a little surprised you never considered knocking a small window in the back wall of the kitchen and whitewashing the walls. Both would bring in so much more light and just make the room feel even bigger. Removing the upper cabinets was a fantastic move for sure.
@LaddGardner4

Love the cabinets and counter extension. Only suggestion would be to break the corners on the new counter (angle-cut corners, or 1" radius) just to keep from bruising yourself on those sharp corners.

You are killing me….PLEASE buy a step ladder! You are doing a great job. I think it was definitely the right call to remove the cabinets in the kitchen because it really does open it up.

I think it would be nice to be with install a piece on the end of the counter that flips up and you can flip down out of the way when it’s not in use

Love the kitchen update! Maybe you could use the cabinets under the sink to regain the cabinet space and at the same time add stability to the sink? Just an idea... I love everything you are doing and you are just adorable! 🥰

There would only be one tip I would give you, is that hang your clothes on a washing line from the bottom not the shoulder seams, as it leaves little marks when hung slightly draped at the bottom edges.

There is a saying in the UK that we use when teaching kids to hang washing on the line. Hang bottoms from the top, and tops from the bottom" :)

I hand washed my laundry for a long time...some tips: two basins, one for soap and one for rinsing. I bought an industrial type mop squeezer thing (I don't know what they are called but it's what janitor use), and use that to ring clothes out. Makes it so much easier!

You should put a hinge on the prep counter to have the option to fold it up or down when needed. It will give you more space when not using it.

Add a thin-ish, yet wide mirror on that wall under that new shelf and it will reflect the view of your glass door behind you, making the room look a lot bigger and mimicking a window on that side of the kitchen. I did it in my kitchen and I LOVE it. (you can also put a mirror on the wall on the right, over the sink, and it will reflect the window across from it. The kitchen will look much bigger and appear like you have more windows and light in there).
