It was already an hour and a half long, so I reached a point where I couldn't bring myself to record anything new. Honestly, most of it was small stuff, so I'm not that upset. One of the major things that I left out is how ranged combat is flat out better than melee combat because it's easier to apply status with ranged attacks. It's another factor that limits your moveset and makes the game boring. Also, here's the link to the Geek Garden video that I mentioned: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dbsUQxBF7yg.html
Combat being so spongey and having it be a thing where it feels like someone like Hulk or Thor can hit normal sized humans 10-15 times without them dying is such a clear sign that Crystal Dynamics don't understand the superhero fantasy.
Plus Black Widow does more damage with her attacks than the Hulk. The Hulk, a character whose power is more comparable to a natural disaster than anything else, does less damage than a very good assassin.
Strangely enough, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 made the exact same mistake. Normal hits do far too little damage, you basically have to burn special attack meter on every fight, rather than getting to make use of basic attack chains. At the same time, there are checkpoints every fight or two, and most of most levels is walking between fight locations rather than interspersing normal mooks throughout. The lack of resource conservation means a lack of _impactfulness_ of resources as well. On top of that, player characters stagger or get knocked down from every hit, while most enemies don't stagger.
Not only was Janet a founding member of the avengers, shes the one who literally gave the team its name so the game treating her like she doesn’t exist is hella disrespectful.
@@HellGrimo it's the west coasts version of "hell of a" but with a slightly different meaning. Like how some areas can either say soda while others say pop.
I'm also a little surprised that you didn't point out that Tarleton believes the Inhumans are too powerful and dangerous for their own good, and the entire final fight is basically just going "We're not dangerous! Observe as I, an inhuman teenager, grow to Kaiju size and literally violently impale your machine and beat you to death!"
Yeah, that’s the mutant problem as well. Mutants are just like you and me while some of them are so powerful they can rewrite reality, manipulate the weather, control fundamental forces of the universe, and mind control you.
@@l0sts0ul89as was said that’s the mutant problem. It’s hard not to side with humanity when you know one time a mutant was so sad her fake kids don’t exist that she rewrote not only our reality but a multiverses’s worth
RDJ did too good of a job as iron man, because this guy in the game was trying to do his best RDJ impression instead of being Tony Stark/iron man, and I feel like we'll be dealing with bad RDJ impressions for many years to come. smh......
I like RDJ Iron Man but the quipping snarkster is wildly different from the original character in personality. So it is unfortunate that you are probably right.
@@cactusmalone He sounded horrible in this game, horrible. Im not trying to educate anyone, this is my take on my experience with the game. To me, he sounded like a bad bootleg version of RDJ. Nothing you say will change that.
@@cactusmalone You have your perspective an I have mine. We don't need to have the same perspective, especially since what I previously stated is based on what I heard and experienced while playing this game. Not surprised at all for Task Master getting no blame and not being seen again, same thing happened with Nitro in the first civil war comic, he blew up and killed a thousand people, mainly children and SPEEDBALL, the only survivor other then Nitro got blamed, arrested and convicted for Nitro's massacre.
The thing is, the New Warriors were largely to blame as well. Rather than neutralizing Nitro, they just sat around, recorded their reality show, and joked.
@@oliverqueen474 True, but the point still stands that Nitro should have gotten some blame and being at least arrested with the same charges as Speedball if not worse, sure the New Warriors should be charged with reckless endangerment but Nitro should be charged with you know, mass murder? the next time we see him is in a Latverian prison for completely different crimes (in continuity) months or years later.
@@worstspytf2824 People usually hold accountable the ones that failed to protect them in the Marvel Universe, as villains are a given factor in daily life, an inevitability. They are hated, of course, but heroes that fail in... being heroes are even more, specially when there are deaths involved. The New Warriors could've prevented the massacre. But they didn't. Still, Nitro not being imprisoned for mass murder is plainly dumb.
Marvel fuckin sucked ass at writing anything. There were few top writers that have now passed away carried the company on their backs. That is where you get all the popular storylines. Aside from that, 90% of all their shit are garbage. Meanwhile, DC got hundreds of good stories but they cannot seem to adapt them well into live action medias.
Cap’s character in the mcu also has a similar arc with his beard depicting his falling on hard times. While he and the others are on the run, he grows his beard out. He immediately returns to his clean-shaven look after the team reforms after the snap.
What pisses me off about the costumes is they will make comic book "inspired" skins instead of just making the actual comic book skin they have to throw their own little twist on things and it always makes the skin look weird in a way or just flat out worst then the original
This is a teal problem with games like these. It’s like the egos of the creators can’t handle a simple 1-1 reproduction, and everything ‘needs’ their ‘touch,’ which the vast majority DON’T WANT! We want what the comics gave us.
@@jonbodhi exactly but they don't want to hear that or even care about that they been doing what they want to do for years now so at this point I'm just letting them destroy themselves
@@MilkMan-pk2rc It's more laziness than arrogance. They want to cut as many corners as possible, so they design individual pieces that can serve multiple functions then cobble them together to look vaguely like something you might recognize from other media. ;\
I may have this incorrect , but isn't the reason why they don't use the original costumes is because they don't wanna pay they original creators royalties??
It kinda seemed like they gave the avengers the spider-man treatment, where Jameson blames spidy for everything for being a menace even when everyone knows the real villain did it. Spider-Man is one thing cause he's classiced as a menace, while the avengers they aren't
@@markmagician2471 also to his credit he also declined to make mutants a point of defamation. And further he is right about the fact that Spider-Man isn't a cop or a known entity in the same way Stark, Rogers, Xavier, Richards or Fury are. Spider-Man and other street heroes are straight up vigilantes with zero legal authority.
@@diegodunn-humphrey512yeah, when I played, I thought that this Roy AI would become Ultron and it would be a long side mission to defeat him and his robots. It was such a missed opportunity. And lack of villains is also stunning. Only villain bosses (and villains IN GENERAL ) that the game has are Modok, Abomination and Taskmaster. Others are just big boring AIM robots.
I think the contrast between this game, and the Guardians of the Galaxy game, also published by Square Enix is really stark. The Avengers do just feel like knock off versions, while the Guardians feel like their own version of the characters, that I actually think are better than the MCU versions.
I hate it in fiction when simply because the heroes damage the city in a big fight, the heroes instantly lose their image and are blamed for it(and for some reason the villains who they fought aren't the ones responsible).
People constantly try to blame superheroes for damages caused during their battles. But if you rewatch pretty much every piece of superhero media (that was made by competent people btw), you’ll notice that almost all of those damages were done either by accident or by the VILLAINS. Sure, there are some things like a hero, picking up a car and throwing it at someone, but these were done in order to take down the bad guy. But I feel like that would be a necessity in a situation like this. Like, if these superheroes didn’t exist at all, the damages would be way way way WAY *WAY* worse because the villains would just be running around with nobody to stop them. Edit: A good example of what I mean, would be the fight with the Underminer in the beginning of The Incredibles 2. This dude’s plan was to use remote charges to literally bury all of the banks in the area so he could rob them, and he was driving around that giant drill throughout the city. His plan already involved doing a lot of damage to the city, the heroes didn’t do any of this stuff, it was all on the villain. What people are asking for is literally to just let the villains get away.
On the topic of Caps facial hair and "no one is constantly clean shaven" you have to remember not only is he from the 40s (a time period where men usually shaved everyday regardless of what thwy had going on) and he was a military man. The beard ban didn't come in until 85 but men were still expected to keep a clean chin.
When I was in the military some dudes grew some long 5oclock shadows over a weekend, and more so over a holiday block leave 😂 i wasn't lucky with good facial hair genetics though
I personally think that the final battle would have been better if kamala only partially damaged the centinel before passing out so the rest of the Avengers could have a weak point to attack all at once
The worst part of this game is how much it could've been actually great, but it got butchered by its own bizarre ambitions. Imagine a game that actually paid respect to the comics, giving full use to the original Avengers: Ant-Man (yes, he was the first Avenger), Wasp, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk, who was a villain after being manipulated by Loki. Yeah, Captain America only joins the group on the second formation, in which Hulk left the team. "Oh but people want to play as the ones from the movies first" They could've done flashbacks. Skip to Captain America when he was already on the team, then have something happen in the story that allows a flashback to pop up and show how he joined the team. No random fake killing off Captain America, no boring reuniting Avengers quests, no annoying AIM robot missions and no Kamala Khan. I'm sorry, but when I go after "AVENGERS", I don't think "hmm yeah, I want to play as the girl with weird big hands and talks too much", so don't even. Just don't. Right now, my only hope is for Square Enix to just shut down this game and let it die to work on a new one. Hopefully they work on a single player Marvel game, and NO LIVE SERVICE! I know this game left a really bad taste on a lot of people, but if Eidos Montreal managed to overcome that, so can Crystal Dynamics.
I personally would want a classic avengers game based on the old comic books then introduce the modern day Avengers with Kamala in the or epilogue of the story.
They’ve shown they can make good games with the Guardians of the Galaxy game yeah? I played that through and had a massive blast, and I’m fairly sure it’s made by the same people.
I won't disagree with your take However, the game could've been great with the current cast if they didn't repeatedly make bonehead decisions. The fact they released the game with TWO villains & ONE boss fight is nothing short of egregious. Especially when you consider that one of the villains was Taskmaster who WOULD NOT EVER require the entire Avengers team without any other threat. Why would anyone want to fight mostly robots & machines when the storyline was about inhumans?
I don't know who said this, but that person summarized the story perfectly. "This is Kamala's FanFic for Avengers rather than an actual avengers story."
In Tarlton's story, I think the wolf is supposed to be a metaphor for inhumans, as Tarlton sees them as uncontrollable and dangerous, and aims to use their powers to create robots that are perfectly obedient, which mirrors his original aspirations with the wolf to utilize its skills, but that makes him telling the story to the Abomination even more bizarre. Perhaps Tarlton is simply using the story as a warning for the Abomination, or he actually did intend to kill him until Monica told him not to. (Notice he didn't stop choking the Abomination of his own volition, but rather because Monica advised him not to. edit: I wrote this comment seconds before Dorito God mirrored my thoughts in the video.
A combo counter also indicates how well you are doing in combat and everything else you mentioned. "Ego Boost" they say. The repulsor Ironman is what the batarang is to batman or the webshooters to Spiderman in a game it shouldn't run out.
Hell, with batarangs and spidey webs they technically do run out, but not forever. You can see in some spider man games that after using a set amount of webbing, he plays a small animation where he replaces the cartridges in his shooters. With Batman, his batarangs are a limited supply, but it's not hard to see him pick them up after, or design them to fold down for easy storage. Either of these would be better than the repulsors burning through your energy. Plus, if I recall, they're his least powerful weapon on the modular armour he uses in the comics
@@sev1120 Also in the Spider-man game for ps4 the webshoters slowly recharge, and the batarangs in Arkham knight have a limited amout you can trow in combos, but both recharge quikly with upgrades, making the battles fast paced.
The main thing with the combo counter is that in the Arkham series, at a high enough combo you’d be flying around the arena one-shotting everyone in it. This is easily one of if not the most satisfying experiences in gaming.
The character designs are both too realistic and horrifically unrealistic. The designs just seem to clash so much from suit to suit and it seems so disjointed.
Suporting your point about cap being clean shaven: it's basic Soldier routine to be clean shaven, cap isn't in the militairy now but he still follows the principles to heart.
I honestly liked that they made Kamala the main character, because it gave an element of "What if you (the player) joined the Avengers?", but I do agree that they glossed over some VERY basic things that the NEEDED to have present in the game: Mainly her learning to use her powers. After the 5 year gap (hmmm... coincidence that the Blip was also 5 years?) she already knows how to do her things, so we miss out on a large part of "becoming a hero". Also, one of her battle cries is something like "I'm Ms. Marvel and don't you forget it!" Ummm... Since when? No where in the story of the game does she start using the Ms. Marvel codename. So why do she use it in some random Battle Cry?!?
Bro I have no idea how you have only 500 subs. I don’t really like video game reviews that go anymore in depth than the story but I watched this video in full and 2 other ones before it. Don’t ever give up this RU-vid thing cause I know for a fact you’re gonna pop off eventually
Even the fact that they focused on the inhumans is mind-blowing. They have an endless stream of characters to pull from and it's about inhumans and aim. Why is taskmaster and abomination like the only boss fights? It's that and fucking robots. I could go on and on and on about things I hate in this game
I don't mind the inhumans mentioned but literally if they were mcu leaning could've had Loki or even Amora as a boss. Imagine they're behind mind controlling people and having to boss fight them using Thor as they take control of the other avengers/Kamala against you.
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern that would be cool 👌 and I don't mind the inhumans, but the entire time.... The entire time it's aim bots. We don't even see prominent inhumans in the game.
The story was clearly written back in 2017 but languished in development for years, and when the game was finally ready to go out they didn't update anything.
They cited “forest fires” for delays - the closest Forest Fire to CD offices was nearly 150 miles away. They used tons of tragedies to cover up their own incompetence - they 100% used Chadwick’s passing to their advantage
The only character that _hardly_ makes sense being in a loot base game is Ironman, but only because Aim stole most of his tech and assets from Stark industries.
Only 15 mins in but I’m surprised this video hasn’t blown up yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did though. This is really thorough and shines a light on how dumb you’d have to be to fumble a bag like this. Really odd for this new Marvel Games team to let something as big as Avengers fail this miserably.
Because they were piggybacking off the mcu and trying to also have comics lore in there. It makes for something that is wonky and off and trying to make it accessible and mainstream for people who are familiar with the mcu.
The story was written on "what if" they didn't focus on, or hardly put effort, into "how" and "why"... which can flesh out a story. The whole story feels like something I'd write as kid. "Ooo what if task master was hired by Monica? What if cap dies and the avengers are blamed, what if the once loved heros are hated! Ooo ooo what if Tony Stark goes from being rich to becoming poor or living with his parents?"
"What if you took away all of Stark's toys, if he lost all his money and gadgets? How would he survive and endure, and what would he be like if he got it all back again?" Correct me if I'm wrong, but, isn't that literally his origin and what *lead him* to becoming Ironman? Being stripped of everything, his money and resources and put into an incredibly rough situation where he struggles? I have the answer, he'd take whatever tools he can get and fight his way out to get it all back... Not sit in a shitty home and be a miserable drunk for 5 years until a teenager tells him to get his shit together.
The thing about the characters looking like stunt doubles is part of why I hate the update to Spider-man's appearance. I really liked the completely different take on the character (to the MCU version, anyways) in the original game, but the remaster (and apparently sequel) make him look like Tom Holland's kinda weird-looking brother.
I'm sorry, I know I'm late to the party and probably not the first to say that, but can we quickly talk about how stupid it is that the guy who literally controls technology hasn't accessed Tony's Profile, which is in his posession, on his servers, and literally a thought away from him? Just because they didn't even bother to just explain the limits of his powers?
This game would have been better if it was you playing as your own original character, with playing as the Avengers characters being a special mission modes, then they could have had the cosmetics be for your Player Character where they would be original styles and inspired styles also with each piece being separate to where you could mismatch them.
That’s what I hoped this game would be. A game about the Avengers being defeated and/or killed, and it’s now up To you and your friends to save the world from disaster by becoming the new Avengers
50:26 If Kamala gained her powers through Cosmic Power instead of Terrigan Mist then I could see her being stronger than the other Avengers but as things stand, Not a Chance.
Hmm… makes ya wonder how much better the game would be if it was given to developers who knew what they were doing… *Platinum Games smirks in the background*
I'm sorry but having Kamala as the main character was a very dumb idea from the beginning. It should have and always should have focused on the main avenger characters. Kamala is not nearly popular enough of a mainstream character and everything she did in this game was written very cringy. They wasted all this time on Kamala when they should focus on the stars of the show, the Avengers
@@beejoo7237 oh I definitely agree, nothing could salvage this game unless they started from the beginning, but having Kamala as the main character was one of my bad reasons addressed in the video
The facial model issue with Black Widow isn’t necessarily “it can’t be a face model if it changed”. Look at games like Assassin’s Creed, despite the first 5 games using a facial model for Desmond/Ezio/Altair, his face changes pretty dramatically from 1-2-Brotherhood-Rev-3 due to the difference in facial scans. While it’s doubtful Avengers used facial scans, it’s still POSSIBLE
Yo genuinely who thought making AIM the only villains was a good idea? It’s like having Batman only fight joker minions in a Batman game. I’m honestly having a migraine thinking about it. ITS THE AVENGERRRRSSSSS Who? Who? Who???? I sound like an owl but literally WHO sat in that desk and confirmed this??? I’m bouta go on a rant here: I was excited for the potential of fighting villains from the MCU while getting new heros. We get heros every now and then with nothing to fight but AIM. It honestly makes the game feel like a dev Alpha build, wtf am I playing for? You can easily have DLC expansions come out with mini stories introducing a new hero and main villain which can become raids. The maystro (sorry if I spelled it wrong) fight was hard asl but felt good when I beat him. I had to come up with good team comps to beat him and that felt rewarding when I figured out one that worked. Non of the other bosses do that, they just all feel like glorified sponges. I quit the game after fighting claw and crossbones (I think) in BP DLC bc claw was (no cap) 1 hit and I died making me start all over again. The amount of hits you have to pour into the bosses with no actual strat at play is sad. Like u stated, how do you have a co-op game and barely need to interact with them at all? As an example, in Apex Legends YOU NEED to use everything at your teams disposal to win and understand your teams strengths and weaknesses. That IS NOT a requirement of Avengers. It can honestly be something as simple as having Ironman be great at mobility and ranged attacks while lacking in the hand to hand department encouraging your teammates to either cover for you in those areas OR play a character like BP who’s all about Hand to Hand. I understand giving players freedom of choice with choosing a character but if I can beat 90% of the game knowing nothing about team comps in a team based game…you’ve fucked up. To beat the best you gotta be the best, so understanding the comps and their strengths and weaknesses is on the fucking nose, how do we miss these things???? It would also incentivize character roles as you would stay in your strengths and feel important as you play by helping your teammates when needed instead of building the best character build and destroying every enemy in the field by yourself like fucking single player game. Idk just something to make you go, oh shit I’m playing with others 💀. The whole combat design is so fucking weird man. This game should not be a looter. That IS the core problem that ruins everything else like a damn water faucet trickling down.
I remember thinking the game was going to have problems from that first gameplay trailer. It felt like it was going through the motions; characterisation felt phoned in, as did some of the acting and the situation the Avengers were dealing with. I'll admit I'm something of a sucker for 'tacticool' superhero redesigns, but many didn't work for me. There has to be a happy medium, particularly with uplifting characters like the Avengers, characters that are often depicted in warm, welcoming environments with positive colour palettes. I also felt the dialogue really could have used work in some areas, and this was only reaffirmed for me when the full game was released. In fact, I think you could've dedicated a whole segment to it (Kamala's was by far and away the worst offender), but I know breaking down dialogue can be a slog, especially when there are more important things to talk about. The situation in general is sad, there are some great assets in-game and tremendous effort put in, particularly in the graphical and mo-capping departments, and to their credit they _did_ make Black Widow look better, showing modern western devs can indeed render pretty women (even more impressive if there was no face-model), but the whole concept needs to be more streamlined and intelligently implemented. So much of the game is focused in an area that nobody wanted instead of where it should have been. On-paper it seems like a triple-A budget improvement upon Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. They really should consider a sequel and basically make just that.
I hope this game going forward will be the example of what *not* to do with a super hero ip. They fumbled the ball hard on the game. I've never been the biggest Marvel fan, but I was kind if excited for this before it came out. The idea of playing a super hero game with my friends sounds fun.
It seems to me Crystal Dynamics or perhaps rather Square-Enix wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted that billion dollar single player game that makes a fortune right away (I.E. PS4 Spider-Man) before nearly dropping all revenue while also trying to get that online game that makes a billion in a few years and can continue to be lucrative for some time. In my experience this never works (granted I'm a single player guy so half of this is based solely on observation) what they should've done is either choose one or preferably do both and give each game the development it deserved. One of my favorite Marvel games was an X-Men game for the SNES that had you select a different X-Man each with their own unique level designs. I think this would've been a good route to go, give each Avenger their own stand alone segment for 1/2 or even 3/4 of the game before allowing optional team ups later on. I'd say it's yet another example of when trying to please everyone you end up pleasing none.
Here’s what should of happened: The game should of focused more comic book accurate storylines from the avengers comics. Mostly the classic comics in the 60s-70s by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Imagine instead of using the movie version of the Avengers, it could of been instead the original version of the Avengers. Iron man, Giant-Man and The Wasp (Hank pym and Janet Van Dyne), Thor and The Hulk. Have the team fight their own villains at first separately (Thunderbolt Ross, Frost Giants, The Mandarin, AIM) then have them come together to fight Loki. Then have The Wasp name the team “The Avengers” since she is a founding member, she is the heart of the team and she literally named them that in the comics. Next you find Captain America in the iceberg and he joins the team. You then can have the team roster grow for the each future missions. Classic Heroes like Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Hercules, Wonder Man, The Black Knight, Photon, She-Hulk, etc joins the Avengers and you play as them. You see how the team roster changes. You fight all the avengers villains from the comics. Villains like the Masters of evil, Kang the Conqueror, The Skrulls, The Kree, Ultron, Taskmaster, Korvac, Galactus, etc. Similar how the game switches to character to character to an character’s point of view in the story, you play as another character in the game for the Story Mode. It depends on the storylines. With each avenger having different abilities and power set/levels. You can switch characters and fight in team battles. Depending on the Storyline your in and which character is in the mission. Heck you can even put low stake missions in the game for the Story mode and it would still be good. It would be so much better and so much different from the movies. A game with more comic book accurate characters would of been awesome.
I'm sorry but Spider-Man doesn't have a counter? The guy who literally has Spider Sense doesn't have a counter, that just sounds like fundamental failure of the character.
me and my friends love to bet on how many bad decisions or ''which of these bad decisions'' CD will make and I always go for the worst one obviously, always makes us laugh!
At first when I first played through the game, when fighting M.O.D.O.K, when the first cutscene happens and before Thor says "a kree sentry" what I thought it was a Sentinel at first. The face looked oddly reminiscent. I did say in fact before Thor mentioned it was "is that a sentinel!" No.
Genuinely surprised that Nolan voiced Tony in this game. Idk if they couldn't get Tony's usual va but Nolan isn't bad a s Tony at all. Just if your used to hearing him as Wade Wilson it'll sound like Deadpool decided to possess Tony that day. Nonetheless I was excited for this game for it to end up like a dumpster fire
I was one of the ones that was hyped up for the game, then they announced it was gonna be a live service game, and that instantly kill all hype for me. Seeing as how this game was littered with problems at launch, i'm glad I didn't get it. I just went back to the Ultimate Alliance and Lego games since they feel more like Avengers games than whatever this was.
Nice video. This is one of those games where people always say it sucks but when you ask why they just say "it just sucks". So I'm thinking well it can't be that bad. The graphics look nice anyway, so maybe I'll get it on sale. You've laid out nicely why it sucks, so I can avoid it even on sale. Good job saving people's time and money.
Personally I can understand not getting the MCU likeness because that would be expensive. I wasn't expecting Tony Stark to look like RDJ. I was expecting Tony Stark to look like Tony Stark.
50:00 To be honest if the Game ended with Kamala waking up revealing that "It was all a Dream/ Vision of the Future that someone sent her" then the story probably would have been more believable as Kamala would have trained herself to grow to that size making the end fight actually mean something.
@@seregagerassimov4864there are more signs that it was meant to be an X-men game then there are that it was meant to be connected to PS4 Spider-Man. I think at most they were just gonna both reference the other given Sony has the exclusive rights to Spider-Man video games afaik, and the later inclusion of spidey (and why it was so low quality) were due to it being sudden like with Spider-Man in Civil War
50:58 To be fair, Most SI Fanfiction would give a reason as to HOW they won such as: "The Other's Weakened it for me", "I exploited my metaknowledge to gain access to something that in-universe wouldn't have been discovered for years or that someone else hid", etc....

In the current comic market 100,000 issues sold is considered a smash hit. Ms. Marvel's all time peak is like 60-70,000 issues sold (the current Kamala Khan version, the original Ms. Marvel who is now Captain Marvel sold boatloads more in the late 70s-early 80s.) Catering to the American superhero comics market, which is it's lowest point in popularity, instead of just using the MCU avengers was stupid.
@@marianoseravalli6994 I don't have anything against Ms marvel but this is well before the show flopped (ie it was just the comics and a couple animated things) and the potential audience of people who want a Ms. Marvel game is a tiny fraction of people who want a game based on the more popular Avengers, particularly the ones in the movies.
A big issue in the narrative is how they handled problems and solutions. Whenever a problem is presented, you either have to complete a bunch of side quests to get one thing done, or it’s solved within the same cutscene the problem was presented in. Kamal has doubts that the resistance is even real? Resistance shows up to take them to their super secret base. Jarvis needs more power to find Tony? Gotta do 5 different things first. Tony and Steve stranded in space? Thor arrives immediately after their heart to heart. There’s just no sense of actual progression because you either have to do at least an hour of repetitive gameplay to progress, or it all gets resolved instantly just so they can move the story along without putting in the work to make sense. It’s as if there were footnotes that said “elaborate” that were all ignored
I'm surprised the subtitles in this game don't go "Tony Stark blinks as he slowly exhales". Thought the subtitles were the most distracting thing in this game (Alongside the awful models)
31:44 the line tony said was a reference to the TOP GUN movie, when Pete said his i conic catchphrase,”I feel the need, the need for speed!” Then, his wingman Goose, shouted “YOW!” Which was the funniest at the time. Just wanted to point it out.
I think the shitty character design was to sell costume DLC. They didn't want people to think their default costumes were the coolest ones when they were selling alternates that looked more like their MCU counterparts.
Why was this not an open world game where we could play as each character like gta, having their own missions based on story and other side missions with also having missions that all team members or members that make sense for the mission playable. I want to feel like an avenger, fly around the city as iron man, jump and climb over buildings as hulk etc…for multiplayer a survival mode would’ve been sweet and then destiny style raids, would’ve made grinding for new suits and finishers feel rewarding cause you’d be able to show them off to your friends. And no combo meter is just insane. Whoever sat at that desk when creating this game never played a video game or paid and attention to marvel.
23:30 the chimera is explained to have been moved to a Nevada base by using a bunch of “shield jets” to lift it. This is one of the many lore things that’s ignored and put into a collectible/codex dialogue. The collectibles are kinda necessary.
I played the game and you are right about everything. Cap's suit looks like a cheap police uniform,Iron Man has a weird-shaped arc reactor. Hulk is the only one that kind of looks MCU-like. And they couldn't make the characters look like the MCU actors because they would have needed contracts with those actors in order to use their image. I hate that video games NEVER pay respect to what fans would like. Maybe they never will. I'm with you on that though, this game would have been 1000 times better if it was directly linked to the MCU. I understand they can't make the costumes identical to the MCU but why make them look like total dweebs? Take a look at what happened with the character models in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. Another bastardization of Cap's look. Thanos was tolerable because it was a mix between comic books and the MCU. I'm just going to try and enjoy what's left of these great characters. They probably won't be rebooted until 2035.
i have some theories for that question at 11:17, 1: they probably didn't want the ship to be able to be taken easily by ground forces and tanks, so they had an autopilot ready to have it do force engine run and start up so it could take off faster, but this is immediately disproved about the fact that none of the other protocols are activated so 2: the autopilot had a malfunction, and the team could only sum it up to the security protocols because they know nothing of the new ship because it was just then being revealed and they had not yet been on it, but then this gets disproven by the fact that tony stark would have been able to spot that out immediately so 3: a security protocol could possibly be to find the nearest area of safety, so it doesn't get blown up, but this doesn't make sense because it's too slow to be able to do that. 4: TerraGen could be so powerful that it overloaded the chimeras ai and made it start up and fly. this one can be disproved because usually there are extra safety measures 5: the chimera's systems are ass, and it was only for plot because they wanted to kill cap only to not kill cap
Why are Inhumans in this game? Two words: Ike Perlmutter. Perlmutter was the man in charge of Marvel back in the day. He's been a blessing and a curse to the Marvel brand. He saved the company and got the MCU kicked off, but he's also a racist, sexist conservative (but that's another can of worms). Because Fox owned the X-Men, Perlmutter didn't want to promote anything that they didn't own the movie rights to, so he mandated that the X-Men to take a back seat in the comics and to push the Inhumans as their "replacement" in pop culture. So many comic storylines were released about the Mutants nearly going extinct and the Inhuman population exploding. It's why we saw an influx of Inhumans content (i.e. Agents of SHIELD, their own show, a movie in development, and this game). Perlmutter was eventually fired by Disney but this game would have entered production when the Inhumans agenda was still in full effect. His propaganda to push the Inhumans basically has failed at every turn, with Ms Marvel being the only redeeming thing out of that initiative.
They definitely took a lot of inspiration from Spider-Man ps4, not only with the armor thing at the end, but also with how it seems like they tried to do a similar quip thing with Ironman. But just like the rest of the game it feels half baked and instead of feeling charming and adding a lot of personality to the character it just makes Tony seem like even more of a moron another reason being that Spiderman and Ironman are two very different characters.
41:58 Seriously, what was up with subtitles like that, did the devs think players were only gonna look at the subtitles and not the game itself that they put in subtitles saying what we can see like “Kamala looks at a picture of the Avengers doing a casual pose” or whatever, like yeah we can see that guys, we’re not blind
This game was like one of those now-dead tie-in games to the superhero movies. Between drawing on the comics vs. the MCU on when making a video game, choosing the latter is shooting yourself in the foot, because, while the MCU successful, it's boring as sh1t when compared to the source material. I see MCU everywhere already, in movies and on TV. I don't need to see it now in video games. While character designs and acting is merely an aesthetic choice that can barely make the game good or bad, but as a comic-book fan the last thing I want to hear when playing as Thor is him making some silly Toy Story reference when fighting someone instead of yelling his usual ''HAVE AT THEE!''. Or hear Black Widow talk with a perfect American accent when in comics she always had a slight Russian accent. And what was even the story about... Why not adapt a specific story from the comics, like how the first Arkham game took the basic plot from Arkham Asylum graphic novel and made it into a beat-em-up game. Why didn't this game adapt stories from The Ultimates, or from The New Avengers is beyond me.
My speculation re: the stark account is that there's an insider at AIM who found out some of the shady shit and used admin powers to pass the info on anonymously through the tstark account. Makes as much sense as anything.
The general theory of the character designs is that the MCU characters are played by real actors and they didn't want to pay/couldn't get likeness rights.
No, can’t be that. It’s more like they wanted to bring in both comic and movie fans and so created characters that were sorta somewhere in between. There’s too much comic stuff going on for it to just be about the MCU actors, though doing it this way also gives the benefit of not having to pay for their likenesses lmao
imma be real I misinterpreted the title and thought it was gonna be a critique of the mcu up til endgame but hey that's my bad and I'm still here for this!
