I watched your videos on your life and your battle with cancer for two years. When you said that you may get knocked down but just get back up really hit home. I had cancer 40 years ago when I was 29 years old ,after 3 years I was cancer free . My wife and I raised 6 daughters who are your age or a little older now. I worked for 46 years and retired 8 years ago and my wife an I were going to live our dream of travelling to all the places we'd dreamed of seeing . But it wasn't to be ,I was diagnosed with cancer once more and this time the news wasn't good. I had a form of cancer that's not curable and have been taking treatments to continue to live life for the last 6 years. I'm a blessed man to have a fantastic wife and loving daughters, and I just want to thank you for your wonderful family and to be able to see thru your eyes all the places I dreamed of seeing. I love your never give up ADDITUDES , your beautiful wife's smile and the love you can see every time she is on the videos. Continue living your dream ,love each other unconditionally and continue being wonderful loving parents to Benjamin. Stay safe ,fair weather and calm seas.

Dear William, thank you so much for sharing your story and we admire your positivity and gratitude. I had cancer when I was 25 and your message reminds me again today is certain and tomorrow is not. That's why we want to share the Breeze as much as possible to inspire as many people as possible to embrace the waves of life and live it. We are so sorry to read your current form is not curable. We feel blessed we can be part of your eyes and share the beauty Mother Nature has to offer. We would love to invite you and your lovely lady onboard the Perfect Sense for some fishing lessons, we just bought a mini rod for Benjamin and believe it or not, he caught the first fish of our total journey. We send you all the love we have and it's a blessing to have you onboard our journey.

@@FeeltheBreeze My wife and I would love to sail with you and your lovely wife and son. But I'm not able to even ride in a car let alone an airplane. Thankyou for your heartfelt offer ,but I'll just have to live the adventures through you . I admire both you and your wife for never giving up and I know how much work it is to start over and you both are very strong people with a love for life . Raise Benjamin with your outlook an he will grow into an amazing man. That care of yourselves ,make many memories that will last you once you reach our age and the memories are all you have left. God bless you and your family with his grace and we will meet someday in the future in a awesome place. Bill an Karen

Well guys it happens. No drama though. Practice makes perfect and you're making the crew ready for the blue water. Italy has some good marinas in the east coast as well but Croatia has been a good choice too. Adriatic is "tricky" in the winter, so if I were on you guys, I would try to get outta there asap. Nice to hear from you anyway, we'll catch up next episode.

Ciao Enrico, you are totally right, it makes Perfect Sense ;) Yes we know below Ancona there are some good marinas but to be honest, we don't like marina's that much, we prefer te be behind anchor. Winter time is indeed tricky so happy we made far south. A pleasure to have you onboard our journey.

@@FeeltheBreeze I just noticed something At 7:39 of this video that you are replacing Lightening damaged batteries with Volatile Lithium Ion Batteries. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ymk8pjax0_Q.html I made a post on it but RU-vid is dangerously censoring the comment. The Censorship on youtube is getting ridiculous and dangerous.

@@FeeltheBreeze Here's the Informational post that was censored, just in case you can still see it _______________________________________________ At 7:39 So your Batteries were Broken by a lightning strike, and in their place you are putting Lithium Ion batteries that tend to become intensely incendiary devices when broken? (unless they are Lithium Ferrite/LiFe which tend to be much more stable when damaged) You just gave me the mental image of your boat being a Cherry Bomb with the mast as the fuze.... That lightning Protection Issue is the bigger fish that needs Frying Maybe talk to William bunting as he is Apparently working on this as he said "At present I am absorbed in designing a bullet (lightning) proof electrical system." This Fella: ru-vid.com/show-UC4ircU5sbntOYDrEf5Hj6wAfeatured Also some more posts in the same thread on the subject Hope this helps! From Stephen Burnage (that flashover with lightning crossing through the cabins between components is an issue!) ru-vid.com/show-UCt1fNa3y4dBBIs865XxS9eA " " Cannot knowledgeably comment on the window size or on swing keels but have been researching the lightening question as I am approaching Panana (where it is a big issue) and I am an electrical engineer. Found a University of Florida research paper, where a PHD student analyzed records on lightening insurance claims. The first thing to recognize is that the forces are enormous - a charge that can jump several hundred feet from a cloud will have no difficulty blowing directly through something like a fibreglass hul ie we are talking about hundreds of kv's, if not higher. He concluded that there are essentially two forces at work ie (i) the route of the primary strike seeking to get to ground and; (ii) (mostly horizontal) strikes (flashovers) between parts of the boat that are at elevated ev to parts of the boat that are at a neutral potential (such as an energized mast to a neutral engine). Needless to say, it is the secondary strikes that are more likely to cause personal injury. His recommendation was a good grounding system (mast, boom, handrails, stanchions, engine, thru-hulls etc), tied into multiple grounding points (around the perimeter of the boat). Obviously, a steel or aluminum boat is naturally grounded. In my case, with a fibreglass boat, I simply added two oversized anodes (one near the mast, one near the engine) as grounding points but you could argue I need many more. However, to answer your specific questions on electrics (and electronics), there are parties that sell surge arrestors but, to be honest, they are so small I question whether they can withstand much of a voltage. However, they are cheap enough with no downside effects. On my electronics, I installed all Raymarine with their standard connectors, which I disconnect if I am in a squal or similar. And yes, I keep a back up hand held GPS and VHF in the oven at all times. On the fuse panel, I switched to all circuit breakers (which are faster to operate than a standard fuse). Having said that, lightening is such a formidable force of nature that there are no guaranteed solutions - just things you can do to marginally reduce the considerable risks. I would prioritize firstly - preventing direct injury to persons (grounding handrails etc); secondly maintening hull integrity (ground thru-hulls) and thirdly worrying about electronics. " " From William bunting who is also installing Lithium Batteries with lightning protection in mind ru-vid.com/show-UC4ircU5sbntOYDrEf5Hj6wA " " Thanks for your considered comment, Stephen. I have looked at as much information as I can find and eagerly seek out first hand accounts of lightning strikes. A good example is “Sailing Freedom” who was struck at sea and holed as well. Important to watch. My boat, a Southerly 135, I’m sure was struck before I bought it as there is plenty of evidence of electrical that shows evidence of excessive heat, with the exit point being through the fridge through hull heat exchanger. As I am in the process of installing Lithium batteries, I decided to break up the battery system by installing the 8 KWhrs of Lithium in separate faraday cage type housings along with everything to do with the solar charging system (MPPT’s and Charge Controllers) in that housing with all cables to the components shielded. The wind generator is an issue which will probably be disconnected when there is very high risk. The risk to the nav system will most likely be through the power cables. In this boat I’m sure that the charge path was from an internal shroud anchor to the anchor chain electrical cable on its way to the through hull heat exchanger. I am putting in an in line uninterruptible power supply/surge arrester for the main RayMarine Axiom which will be a combination of a resettable circuit breaker, current dissipators, high voltage bleeds (TVS’s), in line battery and a DC/DC voltage regulator which should together absorb a power surge and maintain operability. The Main Battery house bank will be AGM’s which are charged from various sources but mainly from the solar via a TopSystems 100 amp dc/dc converter/charger. I’ve been thinking about installing an external copper grounding strip on the water line, where it will be least visible, in line with the mast to draw any charge to the fwd section of the boat. Point taken on the personal safety though. I do know one first hand account (the boat was built right next to my first boat) where a boat was struck on Sydney Harbour during the day while sailing. The charge came down the back stay and jumped to the helm and exited through the rudder. The guy on the helm got a good belt (survived), but no one was keen to steer the boat after that until the squeal passed. The other item that might make a difference to a boats vulnerability is to have an enclosed masthead instrument. SV Delos installed one some years ago and it is working well, Brian reports. Aerials are problematic, though that could be resolved with a masthead receiver and an optic fibre link to the radio system if that was a possibility. " " Stephen Burnages reply to William Bunting " " I will try and find a link to the University of Florida paper as it is a goldmine of information. It sounds, however, that you are well on top of the subject. I hadn't heard of a copper strip before but it is the type of solution he was recommending (if big enough) but I think he would argue it needs to wrap fully round the boat. We are currently in El Salvador, which means all boats we pass are coming up from Panama, so we ask them their lightening stories. Worse case was a solo lady sailor who was knocked unconscious at sea, coming too only five days later, from where she had to rescue herself. She couldn't say precisely what happened but it sounded like a horizontal flashover. Most stories are like "it caught the boat next to me" but there were several that blew out an entire suite of electronics. What you think happened to your boat is the type of incident well described in the Florida paper and potentially lethal. I saw the YT of the thru-hull blow out but haven't met anyone here with that story (maybe those guys mostly lose their boats). Like I said, I am a bit skeptical of a modest surge arrestor, dissapaters etc arresting a half million volts (or higher) but they might do some good with minor induced currents so improve your chances, overall. I used to work in the power industry, which routinely has to deal with lightening strikes (with an auto-reclose device) but those things are huge (to get the required physical separation). I refer to lightening as being second only to sciesmic activity (something else we get a lot of here) in terms of energy released. Ones preparations might get you through a Richter scale 4 or 5 incident but no preparation can protect you from an 8. You are in God's hands then. Did you say that you had placed your batteries in a Faraday cage? Intersting idea but not sure how that works if they remain wired. Presumably the equipment you described would momentarily isolate them? " " William Buntings Subsequent reply to Stephen Burnage " " and, yes I have designed a stainless metal enclosure for the Lithium batteries along with all of their associated electronics. It took some time to design the housing as it all fits in a small void space in the aft near the engine on the starboard side. The thinking here is to divide the energy system up and protect the most vulnerable part. The Lithium with its more flexible charging profile is best suited to manage all of the solar power which is highly variable, and that then charges the house bank of AGM’s via a 100 amp DC/DC charge controller set up to optimally top up the Lead batteries in the way that they prefer. It is not up and running yet as the solar arch (1000 watts and a D400 wind turbine) is not finished. The whole system finished will be 8000 watt hours of Lithium and 5000 watt hours of firefly AGM’s. Clark on Emily and Clark’s Adventure has developed an interesting and tested combined battery charge balancer well worth considering. I don’t fancy losing $20,000 worth of equipment half way through an adventure because I thought “it won’t happen to me”. I’m only too happy to look like an old crazy kook by talking about this at length. " "

@@FeeltheBreeze I've had to repost this multiple times to find a combination that has not been Sh.adow B.anned, RU-vid is censoring everything, including important safety information that is dangerous for youtube to censor, putting people at risk... RU-vid is a criminal organisation and blatantly breaking the law, it is evading tax under the tax exemption protection extended to public content hosting platforms, However by De-.plat.forming creators they do not like, and curating/censoring Videos and comments, RU-vid is now no longer legally a public platform and is now legally a publisher and no longer qualified for the Tax exemption rule. ( They Censored the word " De-.plat.forming " ! Shows that hits a nerve! They do it sneakily in a dishonest way too, when they censor you the message seems to post normally but only YOU can see it, nobody else. you can test this by having a different browser that is not logged into your account on youtube and try to find your comment, if you can't find it on the other browser, that means you have been Sh.adow Censored. They know they are in the wrong so they don't even say that your post could not be posted and why , they may patch this so you may need to use an entirely different connection such as your Phone through the Mobile network to check the status of your posts in future ) I'm reporting this to the Appropriate Authorities and anyone else who cares for the rule of fair and just law may wish to do so also! IRS whistleblowers Office is a good start for reporting criminal tax evasion for anyone interested (I Would post the link to their website but youtube Censors the post when I do, Just Web search "IRS whistleblowers office wiki" for all the information you need. And will work my way up from there as I find more ways to deal with this.

The word "yacht" is relatable in many as elite, we have binge watched several cruisers and the struggle, while remaining a family team is admirable, some are losing the image of the struggling family and I think many viewers relate to overcoming adversity as a family, don't lose that "flavor". The bigger names appear more elite, and less the slightly struggling team, la vagabonde have hired hands doing the hard labor, huge mistake!

You have a sharp eye, we indeed have no staysail and no foam luff anymore. We reduced the genoa from 140% to 117% and 95% of the time we sail with the genoa full out and a reduced main. This is up to 35 knots of wind. And yes, moving the car is a different story when shorthanded ;)

Great Series. Fair winds to you. Typical Croatia. Distant Shores had "Q" flag flying when anchored overnight. They were arrested and fined. Look up ""Distant Shores Croatia"".

Hello guys, I'm sorry for your misadventures, the rough sea, the high waves and even the fine, and also for the seasickness of Rianne and Benjamin, doing the Adriatic all ubna tirata turned out to be very tiring so it was better to approach the islands of the Balkan countries .... Don't worry, it's all experience that will come in handy when you take the big leap into the Atlantic ... a hug for you :)

Thanks Sergio, it's all part of the adventure, we love sailing in the high waves and with good winds but this was just not a smooth crossing and being upside down finding water in the night didn't help. Every crossing is a learning curve to become better sailors. A big hug from all of us.

Im supprised your vessel isn't fitted with automatic electric bilge pumps I would fit bilge float alarms to warn you before it starts spill out on the floors or into other compartments. 👍🏼 Glad it was confined to just certain compartments .... Maybe invest in a submersible electric pump, if you have you to do other things on deck and at night it can make things more manageable. Croatia is pretty but the politics of that part of the world and money problems make anything official unappealing. I second the idea of the large fuel filter funnels...though they do slow the filling up. The other option is to run two filters in parallel fed by a diverter valve so if one blocks you can switch to the other while still running and clean or swap the dirty one. If you had space for it, a day tank that holds pre filtered fuel is what expedition and cruising yatch's use. Alluring Artic had a problem with their ice yatch fuel system off the Faroe Islands it seems to be the most common problem with marine Diesels other than the failure of the rubber vained water pump impellers disintegrating . Those Northerlies bought storm Arwen to the Uk with winds of 100mph and snow. The North sea was pretty horrendous for anyone out there or worse close to shore. They still havent reconnected the power in parts
@FeeltheBreeze
@FeeltheBreeze 2 года назад
The Perfect Sense is fitted with automatic electric bilge pumps and we have alarms but the water was coming from behind and stayed in the compartments and while sailing and healing the water came above some floorboards in the aft cabin. Thanks for your input regarding the fuel and the two filters solution, we will dive into that, we have three fuel tanks, one spare and two day thanks we can switch. Really appreciate your feedback.

Till our last crossing we did't spent money on mooring balls or dockage at all in Croatia, we dropped anchor where it was allowed and only paid when we visited a Natural Park and that's fair in our opinion. But.... during our last crossing they tried to get every euro out of our pocket. You will see in the next episodes ;)

Hallo Ihr Drei If you have no crew who are seasick, have no problems with water in the ship, no engine that stutters, then yes then you sit in front of a screen and do not sail, but look at people who experience all that. i would like to swap with you, rather than looking for cover from Corona at home, because your country is politically failing, is not able to make decisions, and you do not know yourself where this Journey ends. Then you are sitting in front of a screen in Germany. it`s nice to see when you´ve made the right decisions and when you´ve got the people on the screens to dream. Despite the problems, you sent great sailing pictures to our room again. Enjoy your freedom and let´s continue dreaming at Home. All the best Olli

Hahaha real boat life indeed, this is part of it, we know. We improved our crisis management skills a lot in the last years and must admit Rianne is excellent in this, her father was an expert in crisis management in the army so she had a great teacher. We had diesel bug before and checked everything again, this time it was to much water in the diesel, autumn sailing, no big turnover at fuel stations and a lot of humidity in Venice. Thanks for being onboard our journey

It is not clear if Greece will allow boats to enter from Turkey. I know they did for a period at the end of August but not sure what the current situation is. We did the same trip as you a few seasons ago. The Croatian customs are tough, Monetenegro is no better. We stopped at Brindisi and Otranto and can recommend both. Best wishes.
