just seeing that the square up is really late and as a result the crew is missing water and properly doing the catch movement, can i ask why? in Australia we square up early as possible so we can get the best catch movement possible and not miss water.
i don't see missed water, i see catching with the speed of the boat; as little impact to the run as possible. obviously it's not always done perfectly, as this is training but GB rowing's results at the 2014 world champs speak for themselves.
fastest point a boat goes is as soon as the blades tap out of the water, fast hands in a race doesn't promote this, the small pause allows the momentum to continue goings backwards.
