As a teacher at Head Start the best method for a child to be bilingual is consistency. The child needs to continuously hear both languages, what I recommend is for one parent to only speak to the child in English while the other speaks to him in Spanish.

Leslie, I’m a bilingual educator ...the best way to ensure baby Gael is bilingual is for either you or Alex to speak to Gael in Spanish at all times. Whoever takes the role of speaking to Gael in Spanish only has to be consistent otherwise, he will speak broken English/Spanish and when he starts school they will consider him an ESL (english as a second language) student. Gael will learn to distinguish English/Spanish by each parent. He will learn with mom I speak Spanish and with Dad I speak English. Also, it would be helpful when he visits his grandparents they ONLY speak to him in Spanish as well. Good luck!

Hi Leslie! My son is a month younger and he does the exact same things as Baby G! Loves playing with doors, grumpy or happy after naps, so active all day everyday. I work from home with my son and it got ten times harder now that he’s very mobile so I know for you it can feel like a struggle trying to get work and señora stuff done. Props to Alex for being so hands on and helping you. Thanks for sharing baby G with us and don’t let the criticism get to you. You’re the parents. Your way, is the right way 😉
