The Burbank Studios was formally NBC Studios where the tonight show was filmed. Folks would be lined up in front there every afternoon waiting to get in to see the show. I used to have my office close by - and I was born across the street at St Joe.s
It was so hard to get in the audience as a local living in Burbank, back in the late 80s/early 90s. Many a tour bus would get preferential treatment since they had the numbers to fill the seats. Surprisingly, one Thanksgiving Carson was doing a show and there were no tour groups to cut in. Who would want to go on Thanksgiving? So it was free and clear to attend. Did the same when Leno was the host.
I grew up in Southern California and I have distinct memories of being at that Bobs Big Boy. My grandma loved that place. There was one closer to where we lived and we at least went once a month. I always got the kids hamburger and it had this yummy relish on it. It’s been at least 30 - 35 years since I’ve been to one. Very nostalgic. I will say this area near all the studios is your vibe for sure.
Tangerine Dream is a German electronica band that also did many soundtracks, including Risky Business, The Keep, Fire Starter, a movie you did a video on Three O’Clock High, Arnold’s Red Heat, the Michael Mann film Thief which is one of my favorite James Cann films, and many more including some video games.
I would love to sit down at Bob’s Big Boy, one more time. Every time I was back in California, or even on the way, Bob’s was one of the places to stop and eat. That particular Bob’s you stopped at, I may have been there once as a youth. I had family in California at the time, and they liked to show us around. The fact that I was born in California, I still feel a connection there. Part of me would love to go back and live, while the other part is content to be here where I am. Love the memories though. Thanks for sharing!
I was actually thinking 🤔 more a long the lines since this is the Woos channel as soon as I saw that motel I thought of that guy from part 4 the one that Jason crushes his skull in the shower 🚿 before he gets killed he was singing Tangeeerrrine not by the flaming lips though a different Tangerine from a different time. 😆
This has been a total trip watching this from your perspective, Adam. That’s my stomping grounds. My dad was a camera operator so I spent a lot of time at the Warner Brothers Ranch and Studios. Johnny Carson Park reminds me of high school. We sit around in a circle and light up. Never got caught. I’m not condoning it. I’m just sharing my memories. Lol. I grew up off of Hollywood Way so it was so weird to hear you say it. It’s hard to explain.
@@StinkyGringo It was fabulous. I have tons of great stories. I wish I could sit down with Adam and share them. He’d love some of them. Love your screen name, by the by.
Seems like we have similar memories of similar places. I grew up in SoCal and now live in Kansas City. We are heading out to Anaheim in two weeks and will go to some of the places you have showcased on your videos that I had forgotten about. Thanks for these!
I originally thought OG Bronco too and taking a closer look I think you’re right. Scouts had a more rounded grill/front end. Very similar looking and both equally cool.
Had the privilege to see The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and to be within shouting distance when he departed in his white Corvette. We had A tickets which guaranteed seating. If you had B seating, it meant you might ir might not get seating depending on what remained. Was able to be there when Kenny Rogers was a guest. Knew someone who knew someone Always helps !! Were you ever able to see Johnny ?? Then we went home and watched the show. Enjoy Calif. once again. See ya next time. O C old gal . Be healthy, safe and happy.😎🌞
I live in Toluca Lake! Next time you are here check out the neighborhoods across from bobs! Lilley Hall is a big tourist atttaction. THe owner of the house composed many films including white Christmas. Also bob hopes estate is located on moorpark close to Mcculley Culkins current house. Octavia Spencer resides here, Steve carrel, Johnny Knoxville. You’d be surprised who you run into or what they are filming in the neighborhoods
The statue at Bob's Big Boy is a plaster figure of a chubby boy holding a tray with a double-decker burger aloft. The statue is inspired by a caricature of Richard Woodruff, a six-year-old boy who would help Bob Wian at Bob's Pantry in exchange for free burgers. When Wian called Woodruff "Big Boy", the name stuck and became the inspiration for the restaurant's signature dish and mascot. Warner Bros. animator Ben Washam sketched the caricature, which also inspired the company's logo. Large Big Boy statues are often displayed in front of Bob's Big Boy restaurants.
The Burbank studio you showed was the old Tonight Show building NBC owned for probably 60 years. Carson and Leno hosted there for ever, hence the Carson park next door.
Morning Adam 😎📸 Heeeere's Johnny lol nice to see something different today then what you normally do like Disney lol i do like other things like this seeing what out there in California, im a kentuckian never been to California it's to far west for me. Thanks for sharing this.
Adam, I really enjoyed this video. I've been going to that Bob's for over fifty years! It happens to be a necessary stop when either coming from or going to the Burbank Airport. Since I live way out in the West S F Valley, it's fortunate that Burbank airport is my favorite which means frequent visits to Bob's. 😁 Toluca Lake is actually one of L.A.'s 114 official neighborhoods, and not a city itself. Since the border between L. A. and Burbank is a few blocks West at Clybourn Ave., Bob's is technically in Burbank, although a lot of folks still consider that area as Toluca Lake.
Have you ever stayed in the Safari Inn? Its not far from the Big Boy, and is my go-to LA hotel. Its been in some films too, including True Romance, and has a cool comic shop over the road called 'House of secrets' and a nice old timey restaurant called Tallyrand. Its next door to the famous 'Donut Prince' place too. Not stayed at the Safari Inn for a while though as its kind pricey compared to when i first started staying there before the big renovation. Nice video - i love Burbank. Ive not really walked around the area you've been in - i mostly know the suburbs, studio areas and small streets.
Glad to see you back in LA Adam. We can tell you still love Los Angeles, it is beautiful and has amazing weather, just bad politicians who have terrible, awful policies and laws.
Also, voters in too many areas regrettably refuse to moderate their politics. Because of that, LA (& Calif in general) is being San-Francisco-ized. Or (per YT channel of Cash Jordan) New-York-City-ized.
Yesterday, we stayed in downtown LA at the Residence Inn, near the Graffiti Tower, wow! so much police activities, we could view the LA city and the G Tower from our room, sad but downtown LA has a lot of homeless, tents right up the roadway edge, very scary for them. Today we're staying in the Santa Monica area.
Next time you are in the area the white and green glass building is disney employee filled and they have a disney store that is open to the public on the first floor along with a Starbucks that I worked at before.
The Lakeside Carwash was used in the Jerry Lewis 'classic film'....The Errand Boy.... he takes the wife of the studio president for a drive through the wash in the convertible .... 'classic' ....
A lot of the Frisch's Big Boy restaurants around here are closing down. It'll be a real sad day when all those are gone. Best fish sandwich and onion rings you can get.
You know I've noticed the last two times he's been to california, Daphne hasn't been on video. Does she not want to be on camera anymore or something? Always enjoyed when her and Adam got together
So cool seeing this area. That black building across from Milt & Edie’s? My son works up there in a post-production company. 👏😁🥰 I love Burbank, too. It’s like what Hollywood used to be.
Tyler my uncle dose awesome tile work. From Phx but they do celebrity’s houses all the time like some of the guys from the NBA Suns and others I’m not sure I can mention. Anyways let me know if you could use them. I’ll tell them to give you the hoovie discount. Let me know. 😎🇺🇸💯
My family moved to this area 30 years ago, and I've lived around there for most of the time since. (Minus a few years away for college and jobs.) It's really the last vestige of the San Fernando Valley I remember growing up in, with the quiet tree-lined streets, old-school mom & pop restaurants and shops, and so on. Sadly it's fading fast, gradually being taken over by the same trendy trust fund types that conquered the whole Ventura corridor years ago and quickly losing the "oversized small town" feel that used to characterize a lot of the south side of the Valley. I won't be around to see it go though, my family are putting their house on the market in a couple of weeks and once they're gone I've got no reason to stay. That carwash was a local institution for generations, but AFAIK was taken over by new owners a few years back and they really screwed the place up, as reading Yelp reviews will show. I think it's only been closed for about a year and last I heard it was slated to be demolished and replaced with a major condo development. I used to get my cars washed there pretty regularly back in the day and they had a bunch of photos and news clippings up in the waiting room, some of them showing productions that had featured it, can't remember any off hand though. One of the few remaining things in the area that I WILL miss is Don Cuco, the restaurant next to your motel. It's a great example of the old-school Mexican-American restaurants that used to be all over the area and I've been a regular for years. Sadly I can't see it sticking around too much longer than I am, giving the rising costs in the area and the new demographic's preference for more exotic and health-conscious, and above all instagrammable, foods.
great video burbank like laugh in,I started drinking coffee when I was 4 years old at the church we went to when we got out they had some, I would put like an inch of coffe then fill it up with cream and sugar
Wow you mentioned C.H.U.D. 2 blast from the past, still have 1&2 in dvd off the wall collection great walk about video you definitely get to see a lot more than driving by.
Every Halloween season the city of Burbank has a home decorating contest. They publish the winners about a week be for the 31st and we tour the whole neighborhood looking at the houses.
