Sometimes, I wanna say, "Have you even _met_ your child?" Sadly, the child lies because he or she learned it from his or her parent. So, a judgment about the child is a judgment about the parent, and too many parents are unwilling to take responsibility for their own behavior.
When I was a kid, there was no "changing grades." There was no turning in late work. If you got a zero, ya kept a zero! If you failed, guess what? Ya got held back. Ya get what ya get and ya don't raise a fit. Apparently, that's nkt true, these days.
I totally agree, I'm amazed on how a student can do 0 work the entire day and then be allowed to make all that work in the last minute. Not fair to the teacher nor fair for those students who worked hard to turn in the assignment on time.
We were told today that we aren't allowed to put an "F" on the report card no matter how many zeros the child has unless we have held personal meetings with those parents first. We have Powerschool reports they can have emailed to them daily, weekly, or monthly, we have Google classroom grade reports for guardians sent to their email, and we send home progress reports between report cards. If the child doesn't turn in the work and we notify you in Powerschool, email, and paper copy progress report, how is that not meeting with parents?
This is all true I had a principal change 150 high school grades (500 students) change an11% grade to a d-. A student who did nothing for a whole qtr and failed 6out of7classez and they changed all 6 of those F’s
Exactly! Why do parents now think teachers and schools are responsible for raising their kids? I'm a happy former teacher, couldn't take the crap anymore
So I'm 33, a millenial, and I teach 9-10th grade, a lot of my students' parents are a lot younger than I expected, several are my age and I can't imagine having had a baby that young but then also imagine a young parent with an elementary aged child, a parent not much older than my students are. I can totally believe these stories 😆
I used to coordinate my school's holiday helpers and afterwards I always got a few calls about gifts that parents didn't like. "I want to exchange the tennis shoes with laces for velcro instead. Why didn't I get a giftcard like another family did?" There were lots of grateful notes and thank yous too, so I tried to focus on the positives.
Worrying about my student’s parents, I forget to look on line for my own children’s missing assignments. Guess I’ll need to call myself and raise cane..... or get the link to that parenting article. BTW, I’m VERY thankful for you Gerry.
How very true. The problems working with children are generally the parents. I think anyone who has worked with parents has stories that are unbelievably true. Many parents are very enjoyable to work with but there is always at least one who has your eyebrows raising.
My 10 year old niece has just been caught being truant from virtual learning for 5 days 🤦. Of course her mom is blaming the school and said they should have told her sooner. I say aren't you checking on her?? You are home and only in the other room 🤦🤷.
😢so sad because it is true! Especially sad with the “thanks”giving basket. I grew up in an extremely poor family of 9 and anything (I mean ANYTHING) extra at the holidays was a cherished item and ALWAYS appreciated! What is wrong with people? Have we really lost touch with reality and simple kindness to this extent? Wake up and be a parent not a friend; your kids will thank you later!!! And for God’s sake learn to be humble and kind!!! Merry Christmas and may there be some sense in this world soon🙏🏻 Bless you sir for bringing all these ridiculous scenarios to the attention of the general public. I doubt it will help but keep it up! I truly enjoy your sarcasm and wish we could really respond to these situations as you do on your “car” phone.
Having been a school counselor for 30+ years, I could attest to each ones validity. Last day of school they want that bunch of absences to go away for perfect attendance..nope..you can't make this stuff up.
The corded phones in the car, though! EVERY TIME I FOOL WITH YOU, I GET LAUGHING MUCH TOO HARD AND MUCH TOO LOUD. I cannot keep laughing with you Sir. These are very serious times. Stop goofing around! 🤣
I remember an incident where a parent phoned the school late afternoon, demanding the secretary go to the track field to check whether her child has left his jumper there during recess.
I had a feeling you were gonna say, “all true” ! Those parents are crazy and ridiculous, but who am I to say? I homeschooled my two boys all the way through school and now we are empty nesters because they grew up and moved out and are functioning members of society.
Yes! As a teacher teaching 4/5 year olds. Omg why did one of my student go and tell their parents by the way who works at the school too. That I told them the 2nd teacher in our class quit just because I said she was absent and I was teaching by myself...🤨. Then the funny part was when she sent an email to the principal to see if it was true. Smh

Every time you say something funny. We laugh so hard. Jerry. You are such a funny funny guy. We have a class. It is called personal finance. By the way. I was a Summer Office Assistant for 4 years. The number of parents who came in the first week of July because their kid's GPA was too low to be on their sports team. Grades were finalized the first week of June. And report cards sent out the end of that first week of June.😑
The way you talk in this video. Brings a touch to my mind. You are so so funny. I hope your videos continue. I know you sometimes get stressed. But let me tell you something. Look on the bright side. Not the dark side I have a huge smile on my face right now. Because you made me laugh. All because of you. I’m standing here in my closet door with the biggest smile on my face no offense. But your voice sort of sounds like Shannon‘s sisters. Which is my dad‘s girlfriend‘s sister‘s boyfriend. His name is Jim steward. You remind me of him. Except he says a lot of cuss words. And you don’t. So that’s good.
When my now-grown Son was in Junior High School, a notice was sent out that the Parents had the option to attend an evening meeting in order to review the up-coming "Sex-Ed" curriculum🤔...I was beyond shocked and saddened to see that only FOUR of us even bothered to show-up and see if this material was acceptable to us, as PARENTS, for our Kiddos to "learn"🤷♀️~True parenting is NOT for Cowards, and we MUST show-up!!!
I wish he was my principal - we have to accept ALL late work for full points until at least the end of the semester (actually, still having to take work from last year and change those grades right now too) and if they don't turn in work it still counts for 50%. Did the math and with that policy, students only need to complete about 25% of the work to earn a passing grade >:-(
A friend's wife is a teacher in the greater Houston area. He told me that OVER half of the boys that GRADUATED from high school in the district his wife teaches in had a run-in with the police before they graduated. The same friend looked at Texas Education Agency statistics and said the real high school graduation rate was around sixty per cent versus around ninety per cent that TEA claims. I've heard similar numbers from others. Nearly twelve per cent of students in the whole country are in Texas. Be afraid, be VERY afraid.
It’s SAD, no disgraceful that school teachers are having to teach TODAYS parents. That generation has sadly failed! But it is not all their fault. Their parents generation failed in raising today’s entitled parents and school children. This entire situation started about 30 years ago. We all are paying the price and WE ALL will have to work together or we are headed for one major train wreck.
Darn, weekly progress reports? Honestly, that's asking way too much from teachers. There's an online grade book and parents need to be responsible and view their kid's academic/behavior performance through that platform. If you send weekly progress-reports then you shouldn't complain about the monster/headache parent you're creating. I've had parents email me in the middle of the night and expect a reply by that same night or early in the morning. Sorry, I don't answer emails nor grade after work hours need to spend time with the family.
Ours are emailed directly from the gradebook to the parents each week. As long as we put the grades in, it's sent automatically to their email. So it's not really extra work, and for me it helped me stay up to date on my grading.
Yup. By the middle of the parody, I’m thinking, “hmmm some of these are sounding similar to things we’ve heard”oh yeah...because they are!!! What happened to being thankful or helpful toward school instead of taking like school and the overly caring staff for granted?!?! This Pandemic has brought out some fun character traits to deal with 😒
