At the tender age of 26, Greyhound trainer Nathan Hunt took over the license of his kennels in Cambridge in February this year having worked his way up through the ranks as kennel hand and assistant trainer to Phil Simmonds.
With nearly 200 winners to his name already, Nathan is hoping with the right dog at the right time and a slice of luck along the way, he'll be able to realise a dream; to train a winner in the Greyhound Derby.

I really enjoyed this. Those dogs looked well looked after and loved he cared about them and made sure they had places to go when they retired.

Interesting to see as someone with an ex racer. This is definitely a good kennel with no sign of cruelty, but when we got our boy he was scared of men and obviously expected to be hit at the slightest thing. Instead of saying "oh this is all so cruel", focus on encouraging the good people who love the dogs and the sport and dragging the bad ones down, not the whole industry.

Yours may have been an omega dog, not cruelly used but naturally what is colloquially called a spook. I have one now, still spooky at 13and a half but what a love. They will improve, can be quite affectionate but will always have a strong flight response. I see them as somewhat autistic. Happens among all breeds. Hopefully, they end up with understanding and accommodating caretakers.

@@francescorizzato8155 Tell me what the reality of greyhound racing is. The USA is a civil country and races aren't forbidden here. The UK and Ireland and AU are civil countries and racing isn't forbidden there either. See how wrong you are. The only people that exploit greyhounds for money are the lying activist groups that use them to gain donations for their salaries and lavish vacations. Anyone can't own a racing greyhound. It is very expensive to purchase one. And it's very expensive to keep a racing greyhound. There are kennel fees, track fees, Vet care, food and insurance fees that owners must pay. Any money that a racer makes goes right back into their care. You have a retired racing greyhound and yet you don't know anything about him or the care he received. You really should learn the real truth about greyhounds before adopting them. Greyhounds absolutely love to race or they wouldn't, it's as simple as that. They must be, by law and state regulations, be in 100% physical condition or they can't race. So they get the best care, better than a lot of adopted dogs do.

@ruthhagenbaugh2223 2 года назад
@francesco rizzato You know for a fact that thousands of greyhounds are killed every year. How do you know that? Where are your facts to back that up? You actually see thousands getting killed every year? What kennels? Where? And you don't report these "killings?" I think you're full of bull crap. Thousands are not killed every year. That's ridiculous! There are adoption groups all over the country and other countries with waiting lists for adoptable greyhounds that retire from racing. None are killed. What is so horrible about greyhounds doing what they love? Greyhounds love to race. They get the best care. Abused greyhounds by law are not allowed to race so what's the purpose of abusing them? Greyhounds must be 100% healthy to race or they are disqualified. Stop with the stupid propaganda lies from lying activist groups.

You said "greyhound love to race".. I have adopted my greyhound when she was 4 year and she was a racer in Ireland. Now she has 6 years and she run only sometimes and only for few seconds.. It not seems that she love to race... She was extremely scared of people and we have worked hard on this aspect. She lived 4 years in a cage whithout socialisation or love.

@@francescorizzato8155 When they're being trained to race, they will either chase after that lure or not. If they refuse to chase the lure for whatever reasons, they never make it to the real race tracks, so if your greyhound was a racer, she loved to chase that lure and race other greyhounds. Now that she's retired, she doesn't want to race. She's happy being retired and lazy. My greyhounds when they were younger still did zoomies around the yard every day. Now that they are older, they never do zoomies anymore, but they loved to race.

Only in Ireland about 10.000 greyhounds born every year. The dogs at the end of career (who is still alive) where are? Only few of them are rescued and adopted. The rest where is? For the government they are considered agricoltural objects (only greyhounds not other dogs). Yes it is expansive to mantain a greyhound. Infact with few £ most of them are killed. Some are sold in other countries (Spain, Portugal, Cina, and other "civil" countries for races, hunting, food, blod extraction, etc.). Theese are the facts.

@ruthhagenbaugh2223

@Carla Legnani How do greyhounds suffer? What have you seen yourself to say they suffer? Racing owners do not get rich from racing their greyhounds. That's just a myth perpetrated by lying activist groups. It's quite expensive to own a racing greyhound. So it's not money, money, money. That's where you are wrong, wrong, wrong. What happens if they get injured? Do you really know? Have you seen what actually happens to an injured greyhound? Greyhounds that might get injured, get treated right there at the track by a track Vet, then they go to an off track Vet for further treatment and then back to the kennel to rest until they are healed. Then after they're healed, they're ready to race again. If the injury is career ending, the greyhound goes home with their owner or goes to an adoption group and gets adopted. That is FACT! Time to stop posting comments that are simply not true.

@@ruthhagenbaugh2223 as I remarked before no animal should be used for human entertainment and BETTING. We all know that animal racing goes hand in hand with betting. Humans choose to race, Animals can’t. They don’t have any choice: have you ever seen the start of a greyhound race, how they are forced by the trainers to go into that sort of cage? Have you ever seen and felt how they’re scared when they hear the shooting starting the race?Do you know the oval shape of the track is dangerous and many of them get injured after about five minutes? Just go on RU-vid and you can watch it. Ever you ever watched a video where healthy and young greyhounds get killed with a gun, their corpses put in a wheelbarrow, buried and covered with concrete? I have and that isn’t propaganda. Galgos live the same hell in Spain: they’re exploited for hunting and, when they’re no good anymore they get killed slowly and painfully. They can be drowned, hanged from a tree ( by the so-called pianista killing; they hang down and try to free themselves until the rope becomes too tight and they asphyxiate) or shooted. You can find it anywhere on the web. And, answering to your question , I’ve never seen with my own eyes what happens to an injured greyhound. Luckily we don’t have tracks in Italy. I know it through the information the rescue associations give, through photographic and video evidence, and even through what trainers say. But, at the end, the question is one and one only: should animals ( and besides racing, I mean the corrida, the dog fights, hunting, cirques, and so on) be used for human entertainment and greediness (betting is about money, isn’t it?) My answer is NO! # animals are our brothers # we should protect them #They bet, we die And Ruth, I don’t know where you are from, but go and have a chat with a rescue association. They can give you more detailed information than I have.

@@carlegnani1954 Yes, I've seen greyhounds race many, many times and the pure love they have for racing is amazing. Greyhounds are not forced to race. They do have a choice. If a greyhound won't chase a lure for any reason, they get an early retirement and get adopted. You can't force a greyhound to do anything. I've been involved with greyhounds for 23 years. I know kennel owners, handlers and racing owners personally. Greyhounds get the best care. They have to or they can't race. Greyhounds don't have a clue that they are racing so people can bet on them. They are racing to catch that lure and loving every second of it. Greyhounds only race once or twice a week for around 32 seconds. That's all a race lasts for, 32 seconds, not 5 minutes. You really don't have any idea at all about greyhounds, racing or their care. How could you? You live in Italy. So you're believing scam, lying activist groups. Injuries at the tracks are very rare and most are very minor. The tracks are safer for them to run on than their own yards or an open field. No greyhounds are killed. When they are finished with their career, they go home with their owner or they go to adoption groups and get adopted. They make excellent family pets so there are waiting lists at almost every adoption group for available greyhounds. Everyone wants one. Galgos are a completely different story and have nothing to do with greyhounds or racing. Yes, galgos are abused, killed and left to die. They are the ones that need to be saved, not racing greyhounds. Greyhounds are not forced into the starting boxes. They are lifted in so they don't get hurt. There is no starting gun to scare them. They wait until they hear the lure coming around the track, then they take off after it. It's a game for them and they love it. If you really want to learn the truth, right here on RU-vid are unaltered videos that show the real truth. Go to Greyhound Chronicles or Paint The Trail and watch those videos. You'll see how much greyhounds are loved and how they love to race.

I have an ex racer and he did have some trauma from a bad kennel but why damn the good ones along with the bad? Why not support the good and use them as examples to hold the bad ones up to? Also, since it's impossible to be an expert on everything, I'd love to see your sources on the deaths, as long as they're reliable sources and not sensationalist retelling or stories :)
