"People were scared of him, and also he was scared of the people," says Babby Salamshyda of her father, Ugandan dictator Idi Amin Dada. One of the people who provoked Amin's fear was a member of his own family who planned to overthrow him. The film dramatizes the events of March 26, 1974, when Amin set in motion a plan to quell this familial threat.

As a Ugandan born n bred in Uganda. I love how much Idi Amin's story sells our country but also a reminder that no matter what you do, there's going to judgement, an unexpected end n lessons. Sad thing is that, even the current leaders haven't learned a thing from this very dark history

I was on a plane out of Nairobi E. Africa headed for England and the plane was almost empty so I was stretched out comfortably across the empty seats when the pilot came on the speaker saying we were going to land in Uganda to pick up refugees. It seems Idi Amin was kicking out all the East Indians in the country because they controlled too much of the businesses. We landed and the plane got totally packed with even kids sitting in the parents laps and the luggage areas were loaded with all the refugees could get out. I have flown a lot but never was in a takeoff that was horizontal and it was night and pitch black. I thought we were going to hit buildings but the airport was next to a lake so we made a slow climb. I felt sorry for the refugees who lost everything and I never want to experience a takeoff like that again.

A typical day in the life of a dictator is filled with power, control, and manipulation. Here is a glimpse into what a day might look like for a dictator: - The dictator wakes up early in the morning to the sound of his personal bodyguards outside his bedroom door. He is immediately briefed on any important news or developments that have occurred overnight. - The dictator begins his day with a breakfast meeting with his closest advisors and inner circle. They discuss the day's agenda, any potential threats or challenges, and devise strategies to maintain control over the population. - The dictator then attends a series of meetings with government officials, military leaders, and representatives from other countries. He uses these meetings to assert his authority, issue directives, and intimidate those who may oppose him. - Throughout the day, the dictator makes public appearances at rallies, speeches, or events designed to showcase his power and popularity. He uses these opportunities to spread propaganda, glorify himself, and instill fear in his enemies. - In the afternoon, the dictator typically takes a break from his official duties to indulge in his own personal pleasures. This may involve playing golf, watching movies, or spending time with his family in his lavish palace. - As the day comes to a close, the dictator consults with his security team to ensure that all potential threats to his safety have been neutralized. He then retires to his bedroom, surrounded by his loyal bodyguards, knowing that he has once again maintained his grip on power and control over his people. Overall, a day in the life of a dictator is characterized by a relentless pursuit of power, a constant need for control, and an insatiable desire for adulation and admiration. However, beneath the facade of strength and invincibility lies a deep-seated fear of losing everything they have worked so hard to achieve.

@@samadams-sh6fs That's what every Ugandan I know says. A couple even claim he's worse than Amin. I never lived under the rule of either man, but it seems like the anarchy of the Amin years would be more intolerable than Musevenis rigid and tightly organized dictatorship. Under Amin it seems like people would leave the house and give themselves a 50-50 chance of coming home alive. Maybe that's an exaggeration. Ugamdans may also unfavorably compare Museveni with Amin because Museveni should know better.

@@user-yf4ol7xw1q So did Obote. Every Ugandan I’ve spoken to said the same thing - the second Presidency of Obote was far far worse than Amin. He had given up on his 1960s socialism and his whole regime was focused on terrorizing and killing ethnic groups he saw as enemies. Why Nyerere was so determined to return him to power I cannot understand. One woman - who was actually going back to Kampala for a three month visit - told me Uganda had recently held an election, or perhaps I should say ‘election’. Museveni had lost and when people came out to protest his police or soldiers responded with live ammunition. When there was a large student protest against Amin, even he did not react so murderously. He allowed the protest to occur and then that night his soldiers attacked the university, beating and raping. Yes, that’s awful but it still doesn’t compare to firing machine guns into an unarmed crowd. Since so many of Amins family still live in Uganda and seem to be decent and respectable citizens, I don’t think it’s right that Museveni wouldn’t even allow him to be buried at home. Obote is buried in Uganda I believe so why not Amin ? Who is he going to hurt now ?

Uganda has slipped back into dictatorship; the current ruler Yoweri Museveni has perfected Idi Amin's brutal methods and uses mostly poison to get rid of prominent political opponents. The less prominent ones are simply abducted from their homes or workplaces, tortured, and killed. While Idi Amin was demonized by the West because he worked against their interests in the country, Yoweri Museveni enjoys tremendous support from the West because he protects their interests and he can therefore rule and fleece Uganda with impunity!

It is difficult to attribute one single factor to why Idi Amin turned into a bad man. However, it is believed that his actions were influenced by power struggles, authoritarianism, and a desire to maintain control over Uganda. As for his childhood, Idi Amin reportedly had a difficult upbringing. He was born in rural Uganda to a poor family and was abandoned by his father at a young age. He was later raised by his mother and stepfather, who were strict disciplinarians. Amin also claimed to have been physically abused by a British colonial officer during his time as a soldier in the King's African Rifles. These experiences may have contributed to his later behavior and actions as a dictator.

Idi Amin was known to hate several groups of people, including: 1. Ugandan Asians: Amin expelled the entire Ugandan Asian community in 1972, giving them only 90 days to leave the country. This resulted in the forced expulsion of approximately 80,000 Asians, many of whom were British passport holders. 2. Political opponents: Amin was known for brutally suppressing any opposition to his regime, often using violence and intimidation to stay in power. 3. Ethnic minorities: Amin targeted certain ethnic groups within Uganda, such as the Acholi and Lango people, whom he viewed as potential threats to his rule. Thousands of people from these groups were killed during his time in power. 4. LGBT individuals: Amin’s regime carried out persecution and violence against LGBT individuals in Uganda, including harassment, imprisonment, and even executions. Overall, Idi Amin's rule was characterized by violence, repression, and discrimination against various groups of people in Uganda.

However, his actions and policies of violence and discrimination were widely condemned by the international community.

Idi Amin's rise to power as a dictator in Uganda was largely a result of his own actions and decisions, as well as the political and social conditions in the country at the time. Amin, a military officer who came to power in a coup in 1971, quickly consolidated his control over the government and established a brutal regime characterized by repression, human rights abuses, and widespread corruption. While there were external factors that may have contributed to Amin's actions, such as pressure from Western powers and Cold War politics, ultimately it was his own ambition and thirst for power that led him to become a dictator.

There are several reasons why people may become dictators. Some possible reasons include: 1. Lust for power: Some individuals have a strong desire for power and control over others, and becoming a dictator allows them to fulfill this desire. 2. Fear of losing control: Some leaders may feel threatened by the possibility of losing their authority and control, leading them to become more authoritarian to maintain power. 3. Ideological beliefs: Certain individuals may become dictators in order to enforce their particular political or ideological beliefs on the population. 4. Personal insecurity: Dictators may have feelings of inadequacy or insecurity that drive them to seek out excessive amounts of control and authority over others. 5. Historical or societal factors: In some cases, dictators may arise in response to specific historical circumstances or societal upheaval, such as economic crises or political instability. Overall, the motivations for individuals becoming dictators are complex and can vary depending on the individual and the context in which they rise to power.

From reading the comments on how many folks think that Idi was a "good man", I marveled at how many actually think so... Why is this?, I wondered, how do people view him as a good man, when the man was so subject to guilt that he constantly feared for his own life? What makes a man who does so much evil and injustice appear "good"? Then it hit me, the rationalizations. Freeing Africa. Looking out for his people. Etc. But they are: rational lies. Do two wrongs make a right? I think we all know the answer to that one. No, of course not. But, be that as it may, there is no getting around the fact that one day, the King of kings and Lord of lords will return. He is the Prince of Peace. Does anyone know Him? Tell me His Name, if you can? This is what the WHOLE world is looking forward to:)
