A Brief History of Muammar Gaddafi

From his extravagant robes, to his signature sunglasses, and his band of female bodyguards, Muammar Gaddafi was as eccentric as he was enigmatic. Embraced by South African President Nelson Mandela for his support for various black liberation movements both within and outside of Africa, but dubbed the ‘Mad Dog of the Middle East’ by American President Ronald Reagan for his defiantly anti-Western foreign policies, Gaddafi’s 42 year reign as Libya’s Leader would see him win the allegiance and adoration many African leaders while simultaneously becoming a universal figure of hate all around the Western world.

This what Muammar bulit in 42 years 330 thousand housing units instead of tents, barracks and camboats. * 24 thousand km paving roads inside and outside the cities * 800 medical hospitals in all cities, with all their equipment and stores. * Building 3000 thousands of schools and adding 30,000 new classrooms in basic and secondary education only. * Building 20 universities, 25 colleges, and 80 institutes between medium and high. * 50 major power plants, including gas and steam. * 600 clinics and medical complexes within the urban neighborhoods. * A high pressure network for electricity along a 2,000 square kilometer. Establishing an Islamic Da`wah Association, which has built nearly 5,000 mosques inside and outside Libya. * The artificial river water network over 4000 km * 40 airfields between civilian and military and more than 60 emergency runways throughout Libya. * 10 sea ports for export and import. * The cheapest country in the world in the price of necessities for living gasoline, water, electricity and bread due to subsidy. * 5 The most powerful army in the Arab world, 7 Africa and 53 globally until 2011. * Social security is a basic right for all citizens, unlike most countries in the world. * Social security is a basic right for all citizens, unlike most countries in the world. * Nationalization of the 6 largest American and British oil companies and transferring their ownership in full to the Libyan state. * The largest cement joint-stock company has 6 factories to produce in Libya and is considered the cheapest globally. * The largest iron and steel factory in North Africa in Misurata * The largest agricultural projects in the middle of the desert, from Gallo to Bed, south through Al-Wad, in Al-Jafra, to the Faruj Project in the far south.* The 6 largest public companies for self-sufficiency contain major factories and warehouses on the level of Libya from the General Dairy Company .. General Plastic Company .. General Company for Tractors .. General Mills Company .. General Company for Electronic Devices .. General Company for the Production of Juices and Soft Drinks and For male only: Al-Naseem Misurata Factory for the manufacture of ice cream and dairy products, located in the city of Misurata, and this company has the Libyan quality mark Al-Rayhan Company for Food Industries, headquartered in Benghazi, and this company holds the international quality mark ISO 9001 Al-Taibat Food Industries Company is headquartered in Benghazi, and this company is awarded the international quality mark ISO 9001 Al-Sunbulah company, based in Tripoli The farm company for food industries, based in Tripoli - Al Falah Road Happy Day Food Company - www.alyoumalsiad.com - located in Tripoli, specialized in trading basmati rice, medium grains and European dairy products. Al Waha Company for Foodstuff Industry - Founded in 1987 in the city of Benghazi * External investments amounting to 40 billion dollars are sufficient to guarantee a decent life for future generations, all of which are owned by the Libyan state. * The only country in the whole world, after America and Russia, has full sovereignty over its land, sea, and air, and for 40 years there has been no western base on its soil. * The largest country where North African workers resort without a visa, as they number 6 million workers. * The largest support provided to support the Arabs and the Egyptian army in 73 was 1 billion dollars, and three times more than Saudi Arabia, as it provided only 300 million dollars, although it outperformed Libya production 14 times.* The Libyan dinar is only 250 dirhams away from the dollar, to become parallel to the price of the largest currency in the world. And the salary was 200 dinars = 160 dollars, and at 6 dinars per dollar, now the salary reaches 960 Libyan dinars. ......... And you can, with some rationality and away from demagoguery, to know the size of the country that was built from nothing and without loans from the World Bank and debts = zero, i.e. Libyan capabilities and dependence on national national income and a surplus of 400 billion dollars and 180 tons of gold reserves .. And finally 40 individual bread

False. It will invariably exhibit bias unless it tells the complete narrative. This was not achieved as the creator is clearly lacking tonnes of information. The individual in question was a psychopathic monster. You would know what I am discussing if you and your family experienced his regime as a general civilian (not someone who was employed by the regime). That's not to say Libya is any better now.

Okay, so will you call his murder of thousands of innocent prisoners and burying them without alerting their families a "mistake"? My aunt's mother in law went every single day to deliver her husband food, for two entire years only to discover that her husband had been thrown into a ditch, long dead, along with thousands of other innocents, with torture marks, missing fingers and nails and feet. Gaddafis guards would take the food she brought and eat it. Him and his men raping young girls? There are testimonies. It's indisputable, he was a dirty man. How will you justify him lynching students in front of classmates for no reason other than they had a family member critique him? He exiled those who were talented, any one that had the potential to exceed him in fame... He made his daughter a throne of pure gold while I had teachers at school that hadn't been paid a penny in 9+ years. Before you left the country, you LITERALLY HAD TO SIGN A DOCUMENT THAT YOU WOULDN'T SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT HIM. I could go on. And on. And on.

Agreed. The West was blamed but not exclusively. Gaddafi aimed to be, I guess, a benevolent dictator in a region where principled oppositional discourse was probably in short supply. Maybe that's my Western chauvinism about how most violent conflict has been kept to the fringes, for the most part, and then managed either with some appeasement or some degree of state repression or both. I think even the infamous COINTELPRO didn't rise to the level of murdering 1200 prisoners. Even prison uprisings and takeovers don't lead to mass annihilation. I am partly coming from hope that people involved in our 2020 uprisings in America, can gain insight. There was initially some justification, and plenty of nonsense, that people guilty of crimes are innocent victims of racism, that racism is unique to America (it is relatively rare), but they get increasingly bizarre. Their actions have led to FAR MORE DEATHS already. This, over infrequent instances of somewhat serious to very serious police brutality. Those people supporting these uprisings have NO IDEA the likely culmination of what they are aiming to unleash. Should they achieve whatever revolutionary utopia they think they want, the bloodbaths that arise are typically in the many thousands or millions, with decades of violent repression and counter-violence .. especially towards the top insiders when different factions arise.

I can't have respect fot Gadaffi knowing that he openly sponored terrorist atracks on Isreali athletes. I know its hard to judge him in black and white terms, but given his track record of sponoring rebel groups of neighbouring nations, i think he was only doing to weaken the UK. Now granted, many western nations are also responsible similar crimes, but with Ghadafi bring the sole dictator, he can be entirely responsible. I don't know man, i don't mean to jump down your throat, but its hard to find him admirable given that he had so much power over his local government and still resorted to voilent oppression. In Iraq, I know that Suddam Hussien had to keep a alot of competing ethnic groups and religions in check (though he was still detestable), but given this was less of an issue in Libiya and Ghadafi's insane local popularity after he cemented his power, he should not have had to resort to the voilence and oppresion to such an extent. And yeah its weird, i feel admiration towards his economic policy, his ablility to not be indebted to foreign influences and his vision of a more cooperative Africa that he legimately worked towards in an African way. But I think he had delusions of grandeur, and began putting his vision infront of human lifes. But what do I know, i just a rando on youtube.

My dad's a Yugoslav aircraft engineer. He travelled to Libya by business, and he really remembers Libya fondly - back then Yugoslavia was the biggest partner to many developing countries, especially Libya, Egypt, Iraq, and China. Our engineers practically built their infrastructure. He always said how different Libya was than other Arab countries he visited - clean streets, peace and calm, and people living pretty well. I wasn't aware of everything in relation to Gaddafi, but this video gave me such a great insight into his entire body of work! No leader is without mistakes, and no leader is without blood on his hands. The Americans know this very well, but they can still afford good photoshop, press and suits. GADDAFI’S LAST FORMAL SPEECH “ In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful… For 40 years, or was it longer, I can’t remember, I did all I could to give people houses, hospitals, schools, and when they were hungry, I gave them food. I even made Benghazi into farmland from the desert. I stood up to attacks from that cowboy Ronald Reagan, when he killed my adopted orphaned daughter, he was trying to kill me, instead he killed that poor innocent child. Then I helped my brothers and sisters from Africa with money for the African Union. I DID ALL I COULD TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF REAL DEMOCRACY, WHERE PEOPLE'S COMMITTEES RAN OUR COUNTRY. But that was never enough, as some told me, even people who had 10 room homes, new suits and furniture, were never satisfied, as selfish as they were, they wanted more. THEY TOLD AMERICANS AND OTHER VISITORS THAT THEY NEEDED ‘DEMOCRACY’ AND ‘FREEDOM’, NEVER REALIZING IT WAS A CUT THROAT SYSTEM, WHERE BIGGEST DOG EATS THE REST. But they were enchanted with those words, never realizing that in America there was no free medicine, no free hospitals, no free housing, no free education, and no free food, except for when people had to beg or go to long lines to get soup. No, no matter what I did, it was never enough for some, but for others, they knew I was the son of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the only true Arab and Muslim leader we’ve had since Salah-al-Deen, when he claimed the Suez Canal for his people, as I claimed Libya, for my people, it was his footsteps I tried to follow - to keep my people free from colonial domination - from thieves who would steal from us. Now, I am under attack by the biggest force in military history, my little African son, Obama wants to kill me, to take away the freedom of our country, to take away our free housing, our free medicine, our free education, our free food, and replace it with American style thievery, called "capitalism". But all of us in the Third World know what that means, it means corporations run the countries, run the world, and the people suffer. So, there is no alternative for me, I must make my stand, and if Allah wishes, I shall die by following His path, the path that has made our country rich with farmland, with food and health, and even allowed us to help our African and Arab brothers and sisters. I do not wish to die, but if it comes to that, to save this land, my people, all the thousands who are all my children, then so be it. Let this testament be my voice to the world, that I stood up to crusader attacks of NATO, stood up to cruelty, stoop up to betrayal, stood up to the West and its colonialist ambitions, and that I stood with my African brothers, my true Arab and Muslim brothers, as a beacon of light. When others were building castles, I lived in a modest house, and in a tent. I never forgot my youth in Sirte, I did not spend our national treasury foolishly , and like Salah-al-Deen, our great Muslim leader, who rescued Jerusalem for Islam, I took little for myself… In the West, some have called me "mad", "crazy", but they know the truth, yet continue to lie. They know that our land is independent and free, not in the colonial grip, that my vision, my path is, and has been clear and for my people and that I will fight to my last breath to keep us free, may Allah almighty help us to remain faithful and free". My brothers and sisters let's start loving more of each other and stop killing each other cause Europe America and other western world will never want to see sunshine for Africans..”

Forgetting to mention those events in favour of more pleasant ones and justifying it with trite statements such as 'life isn't all black or white' isn't taking a measured historical perspective: it's someone actually taking a position that they are willing to overlook certain crimes if they like the outcome. The IRA ... Revolutionaries of increasingly questionable judgement the further you trace their history from the Easter Rebellion to the Good Friday Agreement. That link to Gaddafi for international arms dealing combined with a number of their bombings with civilian victims really made it difficult for people who supported the civil rights and Republican cause back in the 1960s to continue supporting them. Especially after Lockerbie. For people like Thatcher, such actions made it so much easier to treat them as unredeemable criminals. There were other options - other strategies - that they could have chosen, if they had been a little less amoral when it came to violent tactics.

Salokin Gaddafi was a true African hero. Was he an angel, of course not. Did he have blood on his hands, yes. But he committed way less crimes then the likes of Obama and Bush. The only reason he was so heavily antagonised because he refused to be a puppet to the west, as some other oil rich countries had done. What's worse is that the people who rebelled against him thought they were betraying him but now look at the country, they deceived themselves. The way he died is painful to think about.

Gaddafi wanted to implement an African currency entirely backed by Africa's enormous reserves of natural resources, namely gold, diamonds, uranium, platinum and oil to name but a few. And of course by doing this Africa wouldn't be dependent or tied down by the US dollar and when Obama and Hilary Clinton found out what he was planning to do, they set their sights on him by turning his own people against him. It's really sad, for one the entire African continent would be of 1st world standard by now if Gaddafi's wish came to fruition and secondly many African countries would be global powers, both militarily and in economies comparable to that of the West and they weren't about to let that happen.

@ablorenz

Africa will never rise in reality. Corruption is too high, people are too uneducated and have no hope. They just want to live like animals. Africa will always remain impoverished, its leaders are money and power-hungry, they don't care about the masses, and about development. Many dictators still continue to live across the continent, due to their pro-Western attitude. Talking about Putin; he has the West by its ass. 7,000 nuclear weapons sitting in Moscow. He is an an Imperialist. Russia is a superpower. Putin has caused numerous wars in Europe; e.g. in 2008 with Georgia, and now in Ukraine. He also flexed his muscles in Syria, killing thousands. But Putin is Putin, the Russian president. You cannot compare a person like Gaddafi to him. Libya was never as globally important, and had a very small irrelevant economy. Gaddafi's biggest mistake was giving up the nukes. He was naive.

As a Libyan who worked with high level government officials during Ghaddafi's regime, and a close friend of many who decided to rise against him, I would like to say this video report is the most accurate and the closest to the Libyan reality. Libya was safe, prosperous and good place for business. The rule was simple. Don't put your nose in Ghaddafi's affairs and you can live how you want to live. But Libya was good for a foreign expat because the money was good while locals made peanuts in comparison. There was a strong resentment among many Libyans towards Ghaddafi's foreign investments in African Union and other international projects. Especially when other Oil rich Arab nations like UAE where investing in their people, Libyans grow resentful and apathetic towards their home. Instead of correcting the mistakes of Ghaddafi, they should their true nature which is their desire to rule and amass wealth by any means even if it meant destroying their homes.

@@naeemmujeeb4581 Let me clarify that for you. A foreign investor in pre-2011 Libya meant one thing. An international company selling services to Libyan government bodies without any emphasis on protecting local labor or demanding a certain percentage of labor force in these companies to be manned by Libyans. People had to scrape around the table by offering whatever they can offer to officials and rich expats. Infrastructure was OK but far behind less rich countries Like Tunisia and Morocco. It was safe but it there was no love or care or since of patriotism among majority of Libyans. we felt we are some housemaids working for a feudal lord.
