I have a high respect for all golf course crew workers because they get up that early and are willing to get up that early to make sure everything is perfect for others to have fun. On behalf of a huge golfer thank you.
keelan hammer and we're proud of it. REDTAIL Golf Center golf services. 4:30 every Monday morning and pick the entire driving range usually done before 2ish.
keelan hammer I do this everyday I get up at 4:10 every morning hell one summer just me and my father working on the golf course for 4 months and the golf course still looked good
Nothing beats this job people, I promise you that. Watching the sun rise and getting of at 2:00 everyday never gets old. Turning around on your fairway mower and seeing a perfectly straight line. That's what it's all about.
Nothing like pouring your heart and soul into a course every day, then you see golfers throwing their beer cans into the bush. 30 years for me, 16 as a super. It'd be the perfect job if you could get rid of the staff and golfers.
ryanascotty the first few weeks are cool. Then you start to realize cutting cups while everyone else gets to chill and ride a fucking lawn mower. Starts to piss you off
i recently got a job working for kemper sports and the crew here can barely speak english, so i got one guy training me with semi good training while everyone else i get great help from! Really makes learning a pain in the ass
My dad is a superintendent, I was around the course maintenance since I was about 3 and I started working at 10 raking traps. I started full-time at 12 and did it till I was 22. I'm 36 now and just went back to work at a course for the first time in 15 years. Never thought I would do it again. I love the work, the pay is low but I don't care. I've only been at my current course three months and I'm allowed to do all jobs, I'm building a nursery green even mostly by myself. It's a great feeling doing a job you are exceptionally skilled at and appreciated for.
I work at the #2 golf resort in the nation and I give these guys much respect. To be able to go out in all sorts of weather to cut grass, rake the bunkers and all the upkeep, takes a special person to do that. You guys are awesome.
I work at a beautiful course called Berkshire Valley in NJ doesn't pay very much but you get 50% off food, free fountain drinks, drive a cool mini dump truck through the woods, find tons of free balls, and play golf for free at 140 courses.
I work a small 9 hole course in Hastings MI. We have only 3 guys taking care of the property. If your in the area come ask for me and I'll send ya out for 9 holes with a cart on me. Tee it high and let it fly baby!!!
Great idea to share. Most golfers don’t realize all of the aspects that need to go into a property. Favorite job I ever had. 6 years in turf, often wish I had stayed in it. So many fulfilling aspects in this career for the right personality. Nice work.
What a Great video!! Now that i think about it, i've never taken the chance to thank everybody at my local golf course for the amazing job they do every day. From now on i will.
My grandfather used to own a golf course and did a lot of those things, but I had to at night work in the clubhouse as a bartender as well. Great job. Isn't it so much fun waiting for golfers to move.
I'm the (only) mechanic at a country club and every morning I wake up at 4:30 A.M. to head to work and prepare the mowers and work vehicles for everybody. Not only do I work as the mechanic, but I also put in the extra effort to set flags, cut cups, put out water for the members and collect trash, as well as mowing Tee Boxes, rough, or anything else that needs to be cut around the 100+ acres. I love my job, but I wish my coworkers worked as hard...
NIce job dude. Gives a good insight into the daily grind we go through. And Gene, as long as were not on the green or interrupting your round, dont worry about where we drive.
An unexpected gem on RU-vid. Thanks Micah for sharing a glimpse into a job I had no clue about....with a healthy dose of humanity, humility,....and a good score as well.
I wish we had a crew that big. I work at a beautiful 18 hole course and we have 5 full, 2 part time, a superintendent and a mechanic. Our course would be epic with 24 crew members.
+Micah Fritz that's amazing. We have 2 guys mow fairways, 2 on greens, 2 empty garbage, then jump on mowing tees and approaches and our super changes cups. That's all in the first 5 hours. After that we split up and do other less important things. I wish we had 2 guys just to do bunkers and hand water but that will never happen. How are these cold mornings treating you right now?
@@micahfritz895 This coming week, our crew will be the superintendent and 3 (count 'em 3) workers. One of those workers is dumb as a box of rocks and will take 2 days to do a 3 hour job. At the height of the season, we had 5 plus the super and assistant.
Great video. I am a grounds keeper at Crystal Downs Country Club. I appreciate this video because you filmed three of the most important things on a golf course 1. Greens. 2. Bunkers 3. Attention to quality and detail. Keep up the great work. I love golf course maintance.
I sure do miss all this. Worked at several courses and clubs as laborer, assistant superintendent, and superintendent for small low budget courses in my area. Miss those beautiful early mornings right before the sun hit the majestic course......now I work in a damn factory building excavators cause the golf industies just aint cutting it anymore for me and my family financial needs. I love the video and this just shows a quarter of what really goes on!
Great video. Love the peace and quiet and hard work. Late in the season the courses are in such good shape up north and it is a shame to see they are mostly empty during the week. Same care goes into making them great all year long.
I work in this profession in Iowa. Very nice video. Thank you for taking the time to document your work. A very accurate account but as you know, only scratches the surface :) Nice job!
G'day , I did this for nine years all by myself. Nine holes but 18 tees , two walk behind greens mowers , one fairway mower and one set of Ransomes Fairway mower , one roughs mower , three hand mowers , two brush cutters , one spray unit , one fertilizer spreader , a couple of hole cutters , one tractor and a lot of rakes , spades , and assorted tools. Low pay but very rewarding..
Nice course and video. Had a brother that did that kind of work in high school and college and he loved it cause they would go straight from parties to work as they had to off the course before first light.
I worked three different courses, three summers in a row. Enjoyed every second of it. Was the set up guy at two of them and that was fun. Having the old men telling me I set tough pins was always a good time for me 😂.
pfft right? our higher up wanted more money at the end of the year, so he cut most of golf maintenance budget. now we have resorted to makeshift repairs at times and whatever we have in the shop for the mechanics to mess with and get mad at.
I am a greenskeeper of 5 years at Cape Arundel Golf Course! Work for George Bush 43! So epic I love this job so much. A job made in heaven. Have been blessed with an incredible super and assistant super and an epic crew. A great job all around.
phisicly a demanding job,a much rewarding one too,been a keeper for a few years now,totaly love it,early starts indeed,all kinds of weather,,proud to be a green keeper, I'm 1st asistant,getting there,👍.good wee vid,cheers,kc Keith, scotland,home of golf,
I was a GreenKeeper for 5 years in England, loved the job but the pay was awful, wasn't worth getting up at 4am 6 days a week for little to no praise. Great job satisfaction personally but when you have to walk 14 miles hand mowing greens for a horrible wage it soon gets to much
I've been retired for 7yrs and the last 4yrs I've worked at our local public double 18-hole course in north western Illinois. Don't need the money but Free Golf, Beautiful Sunrises, Deer, Turkey's, etc. "Sunrise Over A Golf Course" You see things at sunrise nobody else ever see's. I recommend it to any retiree that wants to keep a spring in their step.
That was a good video man. Great looking course! I've been at my course for 15 years now. Golf course maintenance is certainly a unique job. My shift starts at 4 and ends at 12:30. The biggest downside for us is that we are a municipal course, so funds are extremely limited. So lack of man power and trying to get every bit of life out of equipment gets challenging at times. The hardest part of my job is the weather. This Texas heat, humidity, and these mosquitoes the size of a bumblebee have you dreaming of an inside job sometimes...lol.
Don't know how I stumbled upon this video, but as a golfer, I have a whole new appreciation for golf courses...you guys work hard. Thanks for your efforts and a very well made video. Cheers.
I sure do miss golf course work. The only one local to me is family ran and don't hire out. Next one is 40 minutes away but the hiring pay ain't worth the drive. Thanks for making this video so i could show some people what i used to do. The course i worked at shut down years ago, the fancier/richer golf courses nearby had more to offer i reckon. *Have a good'nnn*
Nice man, been at a country club in Alabama for 4 years..love it..currently majoring in Agronomy and Turfgrass so I can be a superintendent..interesting to see the differences in what I do and others do..
I've just been taken on full time after working seasonal last summer. I've got the hang of cutting greens tee's and approaches but the fairways I'm finding difficult. Our hole changer we have to hammer it in😂😂🏴🏴
I’m always amazed at how pristine most golf courses present on a daily basis. Thousands of yards of fairways and 18 greens, perfect every day. And then I come home and I look at my 10k sqft of grass!
Have been told "I get it" by superintendent where I help sweep the dew about 4 mornings a week. It's not that hard to get it but a lot of people don't get it and those are the same people that don't repair one ball mark, replace a divot, and get their ball out of the cup using a putter and think that's ok. Played front 9 at North Oaks in 1995 in high school and played as our #1 player that day. Having the practice green so close to the 1st tee resulted in Every golfer playing #2-6 that day for all the teams could easily gather around and watch my group tee off. I've never been that nervous hitting a golf ball. Where'd you hit it on 1? I don't remember but it wasn't horrible. 👏👏👏(clapping for the golf course greens crew people, not my tee shot)It's one of the best courses in Minnesota designed by a Canadian and the last in the U.S. that Stanley Thompson would do before retreating to Canada blow all his money.
I can confirm that this is what happens daily. Super fun job if you like the outdoors, driving carts and gators, and don’t mind a little hard work. Also it’s really fun if you like your co-workers and your boss let’s you work with headphones in. Highly recommend trying to get one of these jobs for the summer.
I work at a 27 hole complex with 9 workers, I cut cups, pick up trash, and roll the greens on all 27. Then cut tees, collars, and approaches, then either weedeat where the slope mowers miss or one of several other jobs around here calls for. Speed up your cup cutting by starting where your placing the pin, drop your flag and cup setter, cut the cup take it to the old hole, fill it in with the plug properly, then grab everything and go back to the fresh cut hole set the cup change the flag make sure it's straight and walk away. Also when cutting don't twist it all the way down get it past the grass then pound it down to proper level give it a half turn then pull it out will pack it in and keep it from falling out *helpful hint*.
I am a grounds keeper at a country club in MN. This is my second year. Love my job. Best job ever. I have a lot of golf balls in my locker that I have found. Lol
I worked on the Ground Crew at a golf resort in Northern CA.....My morning job was to cut the new hole locations .......My mood that morning after waking up at 3:30 am, driving the 45 minutes to the course and getting started before the sun came up dictated how "tough" the hole locations would be that day.... My boss, the course superintendent, would sometimes get complaints. He would ask me: "wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?". lol.... In all seriousness, loved this job when when working during the spring and summer months between college semesters........ Also, when I planned on playing 18 holes after work, I had the advantage of cutting the hole locations where I wanted to see them :-)
Did 13 years at Sedgefield CC . Hated rolling greens! Never failed you get caught by golfers with 5 holes to go, then it took forever to finish. I liked mowing rough the best. Summers all you did was mow grass for the most part. Winters were more relaxed with some fun projects...ALWAYS USE HEARING PROTECTION!!! NEVER LISTEN TO MUSIC WITH YOUR EARBUDS WHILE USING A MACHINE!!!
*My day on the grounds crew back in the day went like this...* Cup cups Stop in the clubhouse and get some free drinks Chop up the beer cart girl for a while Mow some grass Park in the woods and chill, smoke, make phone calls, etc. Weedwhip a few weeds Play a couple random holes Chop up the beer cart girl some more Get off work at about 2pm Go home and nap for a couple of hours Go back to the course and golf till sundown I only made like $8.50 an hour but I got free golf and girls so it was the best job I've ever had.
I use the same boots love em. Your course looks really good too. The equipment seems a lot different though. I'm trying to get out to Florida and work on a course there but I'm not too sure if I'd be good enough to make it look as nice as they do. I'm used to Illinois weather, grounds.
I worked on a resort while attending college. Started mowing greens at 5am. Then hop on the fairway mower and double cut those. It’s one job I’ve had in my life that I’d do for free. Get out of class in time to play a round for free. Except for the 91 bunkers. Did not enjoy that so much.
I wish my day went this smoothly out at the course I work at. We have 6 guys during the summer season and have junk equipment. No designated mechanic or proper documentation for a lot of the things we have. WE just have to wing it and things will go wrong constantly.
I'm a groundskeeper at a private course and wake up at 3:30 am but like it since I get off 9:30 am or 1:30 PM so have all day to sleep or go out. I'm only 15 and dont golf but it's a great job, very scenic especially at the course I'm at.
I work at a Montana country club and this is my 3rd summer we go from 6 am - 1 pm and get paid for 8 hours.... I mow tee boxes, cut rough around trees, weed eat, and that's about it olny thing that sucks is that we don't get a lunch. Great job
I love Hard Enduro go work at Briarwood in Billings. They pay well be give you a 1 hour paid lunch. I transferred from there to Oswego Lake in Portland OR AN LOVE IT out here :)
