If your in the military no shit this is easy for these guys it's good training if your not in anything then let's see you try this out then say how easy it is props to these cops
Dude same here I'm 19 too. Best I can say is just exercise and stay in great shape. Go to college and try to get at least an AA. Police departments want to see someone who has put the effort into a college education. That is most important. When you turn 21, then apply for the academy. That is what I will be doing.
@UsMilitaryPolice31B Good luck sir. I am hoping to join the Allentown Police Academy in July. keep me updated on your process.. let me know how your doing. Hope all goes well!!!
Michael Nelson No they do not, maybe in your department but not most! You also have to be tased. You can’t compare an football player to an officer they are two completely different types of training. If you are a police officer you are also an athlete. You get trained for six months and you have to stay in physical shape, you also have to get tested each month after you’ve gone trough the academy to make sure you are cut out for the position and if you fail you will most likely loose your position. The academy is extremely hard and you can fail at any time and you don’t get to just try again, you have to be in top physical and mental shape before you even consider training or else you will most definitely flunk.I was considering joining football because I want to become an officer but I would have to be on the girls team so I decided not to.Yes,I am a girl.Im not butch at all and I’m extremely feminine.
Basically, they need to take a test like the APFT and ace that to pass this training... I would not feel safe with half of those guys/gals protecting me.
Man... when they were clearing those rooms they were flagging each other left and right. I know they are in training but seriously, I hope they got way better at room clearing.
Police recruits go through various tests. 1. The first being the application process. This is pretty much your resume. 2. The next step is either a written exam or video test. 3. POPAT---Police Officer Physical Abilities Test 4. Interview--Oral Review Board 5. Psych and Medical Evaluation 6. Selected recruits are then chosen for the Academy 7. Academy times differ but probation lasts a year. 8. Full-time Police Officer DO NOT expect to be hired your first time around.
useless degree. Every Captain i have ever worked under has always said that those who went for criminal justice regret every second of it. The reason? say you quit law enforcement. Now you have a degree that is only applicable in the field that you just left. Thats why they recommend going with a "well rounded, general" degree.
Marines who join the Police usually fail. This is coming from someone that's thoroughly thought about joining the Marines and police, and has talked to multiple recruiters.
Hardly anyone comes jacked man.In actuality they dont expect everyone to even pass the pt requirements. Most females are not outta shape but not in shape persay.Half the guys cant run for shit including me.Its is manly mental but the pt isnt that hard.I suggest coming in ripped if your going cct, tacp, cw and pj.Im in security forces and you have to be some kind of fit for that even though a few ''hefty ''guys with a lot of will power make it through sometimes.Iook at my second comment.
They are trained that way. You were not a trained killer before you joined the "special forces," I can be damn sure of that. Police officers are trained for their job, and I can tell you first hand, that they do it with all of their being, or else they wouldn't graduate the Academy.
Work on your running push ups sit ups crunches and stamina and endurance .When you run in pt its only 30min first at instructors pace then your own pace and some sprints. Also you should work on pull ups too even though its not really required it would be better to do atleast a couple. Also if your not used to being naked in front of other men/or women if you are one get used to it and you are not afraid of needles because half way through you get a ass load of shots you should do fine.GO HARD
ROFL the standards of academies outside of California seem like a joke. You should see the hell CHP puts their recruits through. In fact during our physical testing they said if you are not currently able to run two miles consecutively at a 6 minute pace then you are wasting your time applying. Some of these guys have bellies ffs.
Brian Waller to score a 100% on marine corp test its 3miles in 18minutes thats 6minute miles and guys do it all the time. its only "really tough" when you are out of shape. but on another note a few of these guys should not have been allowed in because of the shape they were in. i dont know how they past pre academy PT test. maybe this department doesnt have one.
because its very specific. As in, what if you dont make it through law enforcement, or decide not to do it anymore? Now you are stuck with a degree that means nothing. Every executive corps member of my department i have talked to always regret going criminal justice, they say go for something like Public Safety Administration, or something in FEMA, or homeland security, that way if you flunk the academy, get fired, or decide not to pursue law enforcement anymore, you have something to back up on.
videoman191 this is the police academy,in boot camp and the academy don’t expect to come out look like a fitness model. If that’s your mindset the academy is going to be extremely mentally and physically draining for you and you will probably crumble. Before joining the academy, boot camp or any type of training you should be physically fit before hand. The police academy focuses on academics and physical training, the academy focuses more in cardio then actual strength training while boot camp focuses on physical training academics and is also very mind stimulating. Both are extremely hard and you have to have the right mindset to even consider joining!
