I teach first grade in California, we are doing virtual teaching. Love seeing your classroom ❤ and getting ideas to setup mine once we get back in the classroom. I use briding literacy with my students and they love it. Parents love it too I've gotten positive feedback from them. You are the best Bridget

I live in Peru, we haven't gone back to school yet. I suppose we'll be in that scenario next year at some point. It's interesting knowing about another teacher going through in-person classes during covid. Thank you for sharing.

It’s nice that you’re able to take the mask off and just use a shield to teach. We have been told that even if we are far enough away, the mask is still required even with a shield. Loved the video! I’m also in love with you and Michelle’s planner. Best investment I made this year.

Same here. We have to wear a mask if we are near anything we will give to students. She talked over the kids breakfast bags and this is a no no in my district.

Thank you SO much for this, im returning back as a sub after not working 2020-2021 school year since Covid came about. I have NO idea what to expect so your video made me feel a little more prepared as to what a day could look like now. As much as I really want the face shield as far as Im aware masks are mandatory indoors here in Ca which makes sense to me but my face feels sweaty already!

Hi Bridgit, wanted to ask you if you can stay digital with first grade kids, because you know they need their worksheets because they are learning to write? Thanks You are a wonderful teacher!

Just as everything else in life you have to have balance. Even fifth graders need balance when it comes to tasks that are digital versus on paper. As you mentioned, first graders are learning to write. They are continuing (for some) to develop those fine motor skills and it’s important that we give them time. Find balance on how you plan out your activities and ask yourself “ do they need to practice this skill for this activity?”

Hi Mrs Bridget, I am happy to hear that you are back in school for in-person teaching. You really have your classroom organized and taking extra precautions to protect your self and students. I absolutely adore your face mask by the way. I checked your first day back stream and enjoy hearing about your first day back teaching. One topic you addressed that really stuck with me is masks because you mentioned your own experience with them and that most have been hard. You mentioned you cried because it was so hard for you to breathe and wear one. I have to say that you shouldn't be so hard on yourself because you are human and allowed to show your true emotions whether that be fear, joy, or stress. It will get better the more you wear a mask, trust me because I experienced the same thing feeling uncomfortable, and hard to breathe along with foggy glasses. You addressed other mask concerns such as breathing heavily, moisture, and face shield. I don't think that you are doing anything wrong while wearing a mask and you may just be a heavy breather. Please don't feel bad about being a heavy breather because I am a heavy breather when I wear a mask too and let me tell you it's not easy especially if you wear glasses. Have you address this matter to your family, doctor, or someone you absolutely trust? I completely agree that a mask can get warm and uncomfortable to wear let alone breathe in because as you said, you're constantly taking therefore moisture is going build up and there's no avoiding that. If you had a both a face mask and face shield, you may feel fatigued or claustrophobic because the mask is enough as it is then having the shield on just makes it more unbearable. During your demonstration with both items on, I could tell that you were uncomfortable because you feel like you can't breathe and it gets super humid in there. With a mask, you may feel claustrophobic, can't breathe, or having something on your face could like having a plunger stuck on your face that you can't remove. At the end, you got choked up from the mask and shield during the demonstration, which is not a good sign. After reviewing that video I knew I wanted to help you in the transition to mask wearing. I have some tips on face mask anxiety and feeling anxious. Tips for wearing mask when facing anxiety 1. Find a mask that you want to touch and hold while doing something you enjoy such as watching TV. 2. Put the mask on while you are at home or somewhere you feel safe. 3. Wear the mask around the house. 4. Wear the mask outside the house. Tips for feeling anxious when wearing a mask. 1. Remind yourself the mask isn't dangerous. 2. Remind yourself you can take it off whenever you want if necessary. 3. Slow your breathing. 4. Practice wearing a mask at home where you feel safer. 5. Find a mask that works for you. Additionally tips are: Breathe from your nose instead of your mouth. Try to focus less on the mask to reduce anxiety. Please feel free to share this with family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't ever hesitate to let me know in this comment or email.

I love playing soothing background music when the kids are doing independent work, but there are always a couple who get distracted by the music or the images. Is that the same in you classroom?
