As an ex electrician been retired many years now I just had to mention how impressed I was with this Guy every part from planning the job to hiding as much of the cable as possible was very good. I hope the owners of the property appreciate his work ? Very good.

When you cut that lock off, at 6:42 a piece of it went flying off and looked like it just cleared your head. You need eye protection pal doing stuff like that, it only takes one mistake and you could end up with a life-changing injury.

It's an old cabinet makers trick really, the saw dust and wood glue to hide a hole. Just repurposed for masonary. Similar to the 3.5 machine screws being vertical. No dust can settle, or at least that's the formers reason; I just like to see them all uniform.

My tip for reducing brick blowout; drill through with the smallest bit you can get away with (generally 8mm for me) then open it out from either side. I'll often start with a 25cm bit before switching to a 45cm then a 100 if necessary - gives you more control in getting your angle to begin with and saves you standing 4ft from the wall
@Jys71208
@Jys71208 3 года назад
With careful measurements, I always drill from outside in , never hit a cable or pipe, if I really must go from inside out , then I use a 6.5mm sds 400mm

I agree, protect your ears. I suffer from tinnitus and all I can say is, imagine to never be able to find a quiet moment for the rest of your life. I go to bed and try to sleep and it is there. I have learned to tune it out of my head and ignore itv most of the time. but when I am stressed and need to relax the most. it is always there, even stronger. keeps me awake. sometimes I need to find something to make noise so I can ignore it when I want to sleep but all I wanted is peace an quiet.

I've worked in an electrical wholesale and lighting shop for a few years now, we sell most of the gear used in this video and the others on your channel. I'm not a sparky but I love the chat when they come in, little reviews on the things we sell, things they've had trouble with etc. You were spot on about the Wiska stuffing glands, we had one customer request we get some for him, we started stocking them and within two weeks after that they were a top seller after we'd spread the word with other customers. I've always been interested in the trade and it's fascinating to see some of the gear we sell used out on site. It's part of my job to know as much about the product as I can, but I can't always know the finicky technical details as I never get to install them myself. So big thanks to people like you making videos like this so I can improve my technical knowledge. We're a small independent wholesalers but I've spread the channel around the office and we've started to stock some of the tools you suggest, so thanks again. It's also nice to see someone young giving the trade a good name, nice polite and professional lad. We're open to trade and retail and occasionally get asked to recommend local electricians. Whilst we don't get asked too much for vehicle charging points, I'll definitely recommend you guys if that's alright, we're based in Surrey.

Not NYJ, NYY-J. That's the old German cable nomenclature system before the European harmonisation. Some of the old standard cables are still out there, like NYY or NYM. N is normalised cable type, so it's a standard cable normalised by the VDE. There's no specific manufacturer for this, it must be manufactured to the specs defined by the VDE. Then the cable construction starts from inside out. Y is material PVC, so first Y is wire insulation made of PVC. Second Y is the sheathing, also made of PVC. The version with aluminium conductors is called NAYY. The version with a concentric CPC wrapped around the inner wires is called NYCY, the C for concentric. Comparable to SWA, but with copper instead of steel. The -J indicates there's a green/yellow insulated wire in the cable. There's also an -O version available, there's no green/yellow wire inside. Instead there's a wire of a different colour inside. The -O was used mostly for devices which didn't require a CPC, for example a light switch. Today the light switches are still always double insulated, even the ones with a metal face plate have plastic on the back to make them double insulated. But now you must have a CPC there, even if not required. So type -O is actually dead, but still available. In the UK you got the luxury to pick one of the wires and sleeve them and use them as a CPC. Here that's not permitted, the CPC must be identified over the whole length of the cable. NYY is the standard for outdoor, indoor it's NYM. M for mantle, that mantle is made of PVC. Alternative is NYIF, which is still permitted but no one uses it anymore. PVC insulated wires, flat cable type in a rubber insulation. Must be embedded into plaster, nailed to brick with special insulated nails. Only permitted in dry rooms, not installed on combustible materials like wood. NYA was replaced by harmonised cable designation H07V-*, different name, same thing... The Doncaster Cables Tuff Sheath would go by the designation N2XY, wire insulation is cross-linked PE, outer sheathing PVC.
@petermichaelgreen
@petermichaelgreen 3 года назад
mmm, an "outdoor non-armoured" cable type seems to be missing from the "conventional UK cable types", which I would presume is why foreign cable types like NYY-J or manufacturer specific cables like the doncaster cables tuff sheath (which seems to be constructed like SWA but without the armour) get used in EV charging installs like this.
@Marcel_Germann

That was a great installation. Very neat and tiny, but if i may make a comment on ...Blowing the bick out (or parts of it). I used to drill through till roughly half way through the out brick then go down to a 6 mill bit and take it off hammer. that pilot nearly always prevented a bad brick fall out when I went back with the correct size drill bit on no hammer again. Hope that made sense and a new sub here :)
