After seeing the incredible computer boss on twitter I'd love the see your full process of how you'd make a boss. Making bosses is something I'd like to get good at. 😃
Great too see dewdrop back! The game looks so much more polished. I love the UI and colour the game uses. Really make the whole game pop. Can't wait to hear the OST! Dewdrop looks to be coming along wonderfully!
Amazing video Mark, love seeing your process. Something about your story telling always keeps me wanting MORE. Feel like I’m on a call with you even if I’m just watching your videos. Great work brother!
I've watched many indie game developers talk about their projects and was never interested in their games. However, this feels like something I would play. Keep the good work up!
Looking good! I would love to see some godot tutorials from you some day, though maybe that’s not what you’re into making? I just love your style of video and editing and it would make it fun to learn!
Whoa you've got a lot of stuff to juggle, super impressive! This project is really coming together. I also really resonate with your ideal around "I'd rather release an imperfect game, than dink around trying to perfect it and never release it" (or however it was worded lol.) I really believe that's how success is found in this industry, very wise good sir!
Awesome video! I really like the drawings of the Bosses and the overall pixel look of the game , it probably takes a very long time to make all this grafics and the game looks sooo polished. Keep going!
was great to watch this. Been struggling with working on my game ever since the pandemic hit. My life changed a lot since then and I even had a baby recently. This video was inspiring since I also have a full time job and working on my game
I can totally relate to these points you make. I'm working full-time and keep chipping away on my game DoomBreaker. Great video, Dewdrop Dynasty is looking awesome!
I feel that line about productivity. With a full time job and game dev every night after work and after the family goes to bed it can be really up and down. Love the concept art, the game is looking nice
Nice work, I love what you said about how the enemies design themselves I think it's interesting how not even the designer has everything planned from the start but just from how an idea develops over time :)
@@Goodgis Yeah definitely feel the same, I want to try and incorporate that more in the future (trying not to think too far ahead at one stage) Just lets things become more and more interesting as time goes on! :D
I think it would be cool to see a showcase of some of the abilities or mechanics that you think are really unique in an upcoming devlog. I always watch these devlogs and they inspire me to keep working on my own game as well.
I can't wait to hear more about this game, especially what the music will be like. Keep it up. You're doing fantastic juggling game dev, work and youtube.
How do you come up with ideas for unique mechanics? I'm making a game inspired by Celeste but I don't want it to become a carbon copy of the game. But that's the direction its headed.
Just followed you on Twitter. :) These videos are really getting me excited about returning to game dev and Godot after a 6 month hiatus of learning web dev.
Great vidoo! Pleeese make a video on how you handled the map, how enemies spawn, and saving. I honestly think it is the toughest part of making a metroidvania so I think it will help a lot.
Loved this video man! Huge inspiration! I would love a devlog going over how you went about coding Bosses. I started on my first one a week ago and would love more insight and perspectives.
What app is used at 1:50? Also, I really like how Dewdrop is turning out! It's way more polished and I feel like when it releases it'll go mainstream easily, and I'm really excited for that. Good job!
Good luck!!! Do your best, but don't hold yourself to a standard of doing MORE than your best, you know what I mean? Too many devs get into burnout by pushing too hard. You got this!
Dewdrop Dynasty looks amazing! I've been working hard on my first game while also working full time at an elementary school, so I feel you. Of course, my game is much simpler than Dewdrop, as I've limited the scope of the project to keep the goal reasonable. What started as "Oh hey, this Godot thing sounds cool, I should try it out" eight months ago now has 8/12 short levels and 3/5 fairly complex boss fights! Btw, Goodgis, if you're reading this, I would love to hear more about how you developed your pixel art style. It's phenomenal, and I'm more than a little bit envious! Pixel art is super difficult for me, and I don't know how to improve. Any tips or resources to recommend? Thanks! Edit: lol nevermind, just found your video directly answering that question! You rock!
As a hobbyist indie dev I feel you on the struggles of completing ur game. Im close to finishing a demo but Im stuck on the music/composer part. Tho I want to be the only name scrolling up the credits screen, I may have to bite the bullet and outsource it. I feel music is very important for a full experience.
love your videos. pretty minor, but i feel like the waterfalls at 6:16 should be darker so they blend into the background more. just visually, i was expecting them to be interactable until you fell through it.
Kind of strange question, considering this is a different video. haha I have a background in print production so I just worked with a printer and design the files to work with it.
Amazing video, and I need to say, the game looks hella interesting, even if 'old-school' 2D games aren't my type. One question I wanted to ask, because I'm in a similar boat (full time job/two-man team): how do you tackle design-heavy tasks? I find that these take me the most time, and are the most blocking. I'm able to write code fast enough to test a theory, or make a quick level greybox, however designing anything (mostly levels) puts me in anxiety overdrive. Especially when things depend on a story, but I need to make parts of the game to feel more inspired, it becomes a catch-22.
Great question! And honestly I feel you. It can be super overwhelming, but you need to start out with a really crappy first draft of an area and refine it based of the story and what feels right. Hopefully that helps. Cheers!
@@Goodgis Thanks, it helps! I think I just have to get used to the idea of throwing stuff away, and stop being stressed about writing a perfect first draft. Appreciate the advice!
Your game looks really great. You're obviously talented in many areas. I'm curious to know, when it (inevitably) gets compared to Hollow Knight (for better or worse) what will your response be?
It's going to happen but I'm not too worried. Every day Dewdrop feels unique and different, and to be honest the Hollow Knight community is one of the groups that I want to play my game. Also this game is going to feel nothing like Hollow Knight. It's going to be a lot more like Paper Mario.
I love metroidvanias and your game looks fun so i wishlisted it, hope your development flows on good. Btw what software are you using for doing the 2D game is it unity or some other engine?
@@Goodgis yeah. Could be specific thoughts on why you wanted certain movement options. Inspirations for the movement options. And maybe a little bit on the difficulty of programming some of the options, especially if you had to learn something new in order to get it to work.
2:34 - Confirmation of Goodgis the Elf's potential look for the game! Will he be a benevolent NPC or a mischievous enemy!? Perhaps he's being controlled by the vile machinations of the twisted BADGIS and we're sent in for a rescue mission? Stay tuned to find out!
@@Goodgis Ok I wil try and do that, also nice video. I'd like to also thank you for replying to me , I also tried to learn Godot with gdscript but I don't think it was made for brains like mine. I might come back to it after learning c# so at least I can try and do some thing with it. It also has support for c# if I am not wrong anyway thanks for making these videos and I look forward to more of them, keep up the good work!
hey Goodgis I am making a game similar to your survival game but im having some issues with the movement and just the game in general I was wondering if you could post a video playing it or maybe give me the link to the game and that would help me out so much. Thnx big fan, Henry
hello Goodgis You are a very good gamedev and also a good instructor, but i have a request for you, can you make some tutorials for 2d game devlopment please ?????
