Great video. Thanks for sharing your day! I’ve had my stoma for just under a year. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made after 25 years of suffering with colitis. I’m choosing not to go forward with j-pouch surgery because my life is so much better and I don’t want to deal with the possible complications. Your channel has definitely had an impact on my decision.

Thats great to hear, I'm glad the bag has been able to help you feel happy with your life and has made it so much better. I made the same choice and I don't regret it.

@JosephGreenly hi, had to reply.i found your video the most positive and uplifting regards living with an ileostomy stoma. I,ve had mine 18 months due to bowel cancer. It saved my life as no other option was available. I regard myself as incredibly lucky that medicine surgeons and technology was able to save my life.i have a very upbeat attitude like yourself. As the saying goes what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Keep those videos going, especially for our fellow ostomates who struggle with such a big life change. Good on you Joseph 👏

I have never commented however I have been watching for the last couple of years. I went in for emergency surgery two years ago and ended up with a stoma. I thought my life was over however watching this channel helped me to become myself once again. Most stoma info is delivered by females and having a male definitely helped me to regain my confidence, especially since he is located close to the same city as me in Manchester. Definitely helped me to connect on a local basis. Keep making videos and I will always watch :) I pray that the person mentioned in the news article makes the right decision with a clear frame of mind. I spent two/three months after surgery feeling depressed as my stoma came out of nowhere however Joe/Joseph made me realise life isn't over just because of a ileostomy and that you can continue with what you enjoy doing.

Thank you for this comment, it motivates me to keep making content. All I want this platform to do is to share that message that you can live a full life with a stoma. Thank you very much for your kind words.

I am very grateful for you making these videos. Tomorrow I will be having surgery to remove my colon because this is my third colon cancer, and I will wake up with a permanent stoma. It has been difficult for me to be okay with this. But watching your videos have been so helpful for me to be more okay with it. Thank you again.

Hi Joseph, what a great inspirational video, I have had colitis for the past 10 years and mostly kept under control by medication, I'm 56y guy who loved his cycling but since I was diagnosed been unable get out there. 2 years ago my wife and I moved to adelaide Australia hoping a change of climate would improve my condition. Ever since moving here my flare got worse and I was prescribed with a biological drug infliximab however, my condition is continuing to deteriorate. Unfortunately it has come to the stage where I need surgery, I'm due to have my colon, anus and rectum removed, I chose this procedure over a j pouch. Now this has been a huge life changing decision for us and I a little worried for the future but your videos are so beneficial, thank you so much! Regards Dean

Ah this is great. I think it's helpful for people to see a normal day. I remember the first time I tucked the black bag into the top of my trousers for bag changes, never looked back especially with Ileostomy! 😅 Also really appreciated seeing your sweet nature with all these troubling times going on. Thank you!x

Thank you for the comment it means a lot. Yeah these little tips can really help people. A friend on Facebook just commented about using a towel to dry the skin to save on toilet paper. Why didn’t I think of that? Haha. If you have any tips please comment them here and I’m sure it will help someone else who watches the video.

@@JosephGreenly I couldn't believe you'd never been given adhesive remover spray! Doctors and nurses have gone to pull my bag of a few times in hospital and I was like "Um, excuse me what are you doing"?!!! I've been lucky to always use it. Yeah a towel would work, but so might your stoma 😂. I always have a little fan handy for after my barrier wipe so it speeds up drying time, especially good if stoma is active!

Try using a blow dryer on low to dry the stoma area also it warms the skin to get a good seal. I use it after a shower to dry the bad as well

So proud of what you’re doing! Just watched it the whole way through and think you’re incredibly brave and inspirational! I’m going to share this in my endometriosis group as a lot of the girls there have the condition so badly that they also end up requiring an ileostomy and I think this will really help people.

Good work Joe. Ted. Any advice to quench appetite. Like you said bag will get to memory of when you were before surgery. I don’t want to return to 17 stone again. And apart from chain smoking I need to think of ways to keep weight off. Cheers 🧸
@JosephGreenly
@JosephGreenly 4 года назад
Thanks Ted glad you enjoyed the video. Only things I can think of for appetite is drinking more water through out the day to feel fuller and adding more protein to your diet. 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Benefit of protein is that it slows the gut down because it’s hard for the body to digest. Other thing would be to try and get more veggies in. Even if it’s through juicing, personally I don’t have to juice veggies.

Do you change your bag after every shower? I just had surgery and had mine placed and I’m still trying to figure out how to shower without getting the adhesive wet.
