From the first day on set to the last, Emilia Clarke looks back at her time playing the Mother of Dragons on Game of Thrones in this extended edition of Season 8’s “The Cast Remembers” behind-the-scenes series.
she never needed a iron throne, a crown on her head and use fear and terror to be a queen and a khalessi, she already was a queen and a khalessi , the day of the battle for throne in KL she could have had the people of the city take someone save and have Cersei captured alive to be triad with a propper trial before excuting her or exiling her, take out all the barrells of wildfire under the city and the red keep the night before to evoid Cersei doing something crazy or drogon going out of control, give the north its independence , give the wildlings a home in moat cailin , give all her dothraki a home in dragonstone and in KL help Yara kill Euron and bring freedom, new traditions and peace to the six realms of westeros and her allies in the now independant north, than she would have won and proven she is not like her father, that everyone in the six realms and the north were wrong about her, to accept Jon and Her together cannot happen cuz they are family and its incest that drove every targaryen mad not just power lust in the form of the iron, she could crown Jon king of the north and wish him to find love again, even sansa and arya could have seen the good in Dany and trust her as it would have been the first time a targaryen gave the north back its freedom they lost years ago, Daenerys's story could have ended or she could have died during the final fight at the hands of Euron in trying to defend Jon snow and not turn into a white walker, cuz the real mad queen was cersei who was willing to use wildfire to destroy her enemies and deny the right to rule to dany
@@danieladelcastillolocatell5839 All your points were good exepect for jon and dany's relationship. The north had cousin marriages and aunt/nephew marriages in both the books and show universe. Only sibling incest is prohibited in westeros expect for targaryens. So yeah, jon and dany could have married. Also the targaryens are magical beings in a sense as normal genetical disorders we see in real world don't apply to them. If targaryens had a normal genetic makeup, they would have died a long ago dude to severe inbreeding for many years and look ugly.
Emilia is a very cool actress! 👍🏻 Her level, this is the level of high flight - a tragicomedy. The most difficult genre in cinema for an actor. Emilia is incredibly organic in the latest Christmas Comedy... "Last Christmas"
i never liked her acting before season 8 but i guess she read the ending and decided to give her all because season 8 was a tour de force for her. all other characters didnt matter anymore, it was a dany show all episodes. in some ways season 8 was just about daenerys descent to darkness, it could have been great if they executed it better.
@@VV-nz4dv What people like you don’t understand that in the books Danny hides her emotions from the people around her. We, the reader, always know what’s on her mind and how she feels but she puts on this facade. She is freaking queen. Look at the royals of Europe. Even to this day they almost show no emotions. While Cercei was very impulsive and could not control her face, Danny was always stone cold from the outside. Only the one close to her knew the real, kind, warm Danny. So Emilia could not do much with that character but in season 8 she breaks. She starts to lose her cool and you can see her facade break.
@@rinmartell2678 ive read the books too and i didnt like emilias acting bc she was too over the top for me. her acting in season 8 was much more subtle and nuanced even if the character was breaking.
Daenareys carried this series with her badass episode endings like Her scene with the baby dragons in S1 E10, Her leaving Astapor with the Unsallid, Her being Mhysa in Yunkai, Her arrival in Meereen, Her leaving the fighting pits in Meereen on top of Drogon, Her coming out of the burning Dothraki house, Her speech to the Dothraki on top of Drogon(BloodOfMyBlood), Her on the way to Westeros(WindsOfWinter). Mad respect & love to Emilia Clarke for playing such a splendid role👐
@@felxta I think you missed the greatest part of the show then. 🤣 Actually, you missed what the show is all about according to R.R. Martin. He said he was more interested in the decisions the characters made in each situation and the consequences they suffered because of them than the plot. Dany's character development happened mostly in her time in Essos, and this why most people loved her in the first place.
@@feelgood7 No, I love GoT, know a lot about the lore and don't care how OP considers a fan. It's just that the world and stories of Essos always bored me. And first of all, it's still entertainment :D However, of course I watched everything when I watched it the first time but skipped it rewatching and reading the books. I also have to admit that I stopped reading book 4 and 5 because of this problem. There were to many characters and stories I didn't cared about.
@@felxta It is more than understandable this way. :) Yes, it is easy to feel lost with so many plot lines and characters. I think Martin was so into characters sometimes that he actually forgot the plot itself...
@@ashleyelisabeth4 she said she saw it coming once she went back and revisited her characters entire journey and that where else was she gonna go, in the interview she did with Entertainment Weekly after the finale it’s also in the book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon. She also said in the special on the complete box set blue rays that she was relieved when she died and how given what she did
@@devenfeldstein9796 Just because it was built up in the show, doesn't mean she wasn't upset about it. That's why this person qouted "Best Season Ever" because that's what Emilia said after an interview asked her about s8 and she replied with that comment in a fake happy tone since she probably knew how the fans would react to it and she was attached to Daenerys too
*There will never be a more charismatic character in television history, her speech still give me goosebumps to this day. Danny will forever be our Queen*
She played the female leader so well. She had the voice, the strength and the persuation that drove thousands of smart and big warriors to thrive with her. She's a dream!
i’ve been watching all these videos and let’s be real here: the whole cast couldn’t have been any better. literal perfection. world class acting from nikolaj coster-waldau, lena headey, peter dinklage, emilia clarke, the list goes on. All these individuals are superstars. (PSA: thank you to everyone except for the directors who ruined the final season)
My Khaleesi 👑👸🏼 her story is one of growth and strength. We watched Daenerys go from a scared little girl who didn't have a voice of her own, who was abused by the only family she ever knew, had no sense of who she was. Getting married to Khal Drogo and slowly realizing her voice, getting pregnant and looking forward to having a family of her own, to losing her husband and baby and her identity. To giving "birth" to 3 dragons 🐉and emerging from that tragedy with a power no living person had ever seen. So incredible! #dracarys 🔥
you will forever be our Queen , our Mother of Dragons, now and always. Daenerys’ have been a Pop/Feminist Icon for more than 10 years now. You’ve been significant in empowering women who represented through rally’s , etc. and even those who went through and survived trauma. Daenerys saved your life? You saved me. Both of you saved us.
Agree. I found her character arc going from S1 to S3 to be really inspiring & motivating. I don't recall any other female fantasy character that has had the same impact, so the ending they went with was pretty devastating imo.
Damn it, her speech at the end really got me. She truly was amazing as Daenerys Targaryen. Emilia Clarke rocked the hell out of her role in season 8. Yes we all wish it ended differently. But Emilia.... she was incredible.
I mean, she will have the same outcome in the books too most likely. I hope Jorah is the one to kill her in the books. It really should have been him in the show.
@@monique3308 Yeah but that's the point... It was written terrible in the final season, but it still was always going to happen. The people that say that it wasn't ever going to happen are wrong. But was it written terribly because DnD wanted to move on and rush through things? Absolutely.
@@MFBloosh And I absolutely agree with you on that, but I think GRRM doesn't care for the series anymore, a writer can get bored or annoyed of a concept they have made years ago.
Im still so fucking pissed off she died...ohhh writers/producers what have you done...I want to cry right now just thinking about it...my fav character...one of the most legendary TV characters from any TV show of all time.
Watching her journey all the way to the iron throne might've been the sole reason I continued to watch the show over the years. She was definitely my favorite character... by far. Team Dani ALL THE WAY!!! ❤️
It was an honour to watch your journey as Daenerys and Emilia for these 10 years. Thank you for inspiring me for a decade. As a Fantasy Nerd and as a Theatre person I loved every moment of it. I cried a lot in these 10 years and I wouldn't wanna change a thing. The emotional journey all of you shared with us gave me a lot!
“ Dany saved my life (pertaining to her almost dying to 2 aneurysms “ “ it’s like leaving home “ 💔💔💔💔😪😪😪😪 Clarke , you are everything 😭😍😩🔥🔥🔥👸🏻👸🏼 You are just as badass as Daenerys. Fire runs through your veins 🔥🔥🔥🐲👸🏻👸🏼😭😍😩 IM NOT CRYING. YOURE CRYING. Fck
The mad queen shit was trash just a total waste to the show and Daenerys whole arc. All because they wanted to get the show over with and do Star Wars. 😒
Actually the ending gave Emilia a completely different area to act in and i can bet it was actually fun to work that angle. To play that out as well as she did...... it’s riveting and exiting. Yes it’s sad but as an actress, I don’t think it hurt Emilia on a personal level as much as you’d think
@@LS13. I think it did considering they didn’t tell her the ending to her character until she got the script for season 8.. she was completely blind sided.
@@JasmineBoothe1 to be honest that’s flawed reasoning and logic- no one usually tells an actor how a character will end in tv show scripting, until they work on that season people usually don’t go around telling others before the actors themselves read their script. Professionally that’s not done. Some sets do so if the ending is prewritten as the show pilots, but even then writers never want anyone to know too early
Emilia Clark is amazing! Whenever I see how sweet and goofy she is in rl I get reminded of how amazingly she got into the role of The Mother of Dragons.
Yep and that is exactly why season 8 is a abomination and needs to be forgotten because i literally still can't re-watch this show bc I know how it ends
@@ingabaranauskiene5889 Leave GRRM out of this. Its was entirely D&D's decision to end the show prematurely. The ending could've been acceptable if it wasn't rushed. And if you had read the books you'd know that the ending couldn't possibly be 1to1 as they left out like half the story in the show.
(Semi-literal) wolves too, when you consider how Daenerys ended up getting screwed over by the Starks in Season 8. Jon: a. Not only does he (foolishly) distance himself from Daenerys (in a time when she needed his emotional support the most, even if the physical aspect was no longer acceptable in Jon's eyes), b. his (relatable) compulsion to be completely honest/honorable towards his own family members backfires (when Sansa breaks faith/betrays his trust) and rapidly escalates the (already severe) disaster domino that drives Daenerys mad Sansa: a. Though her desire for Northern independence is not necessarily wrong (in and of itself), her refusal to seek compromise/coexistence with Daenerys really did play a part in (unwittingly) convincing Daenerys that she can only win over the people of Westeros with fear (instead of love/charisma). This, my friends, is what we call a "self-fulfilling prophecy." (though to play devil's advocate, I also acknowledge that Daenerys was at fault too, since she apparently did not have the flexibility/imagination to tolerate an independent (or at least semi-autonomous North)) b. And again, Sansa broke faith (by betraying Jon's trust with the "R+J" rumor mill). It's times like these that painfully remind me that Sansa is very much both Cersei and Littlefinger's student. Arya: a. She's less vocal about it (than Sansa), but you can tell that she shares the same "can't trust outsiders who aren't Starks/aren't Northern" attitude here and there. (again, an attitude which coldly pushed Daenerys into becoming the self-fulfilling prophecy everybody else feared) b. So all in all, Arya didn't directly play in any part in pushing Daenerys to the brink, but she certainly didn't help mitigate the situation either. Bran: a. When you consider that he's the one who first started the "R+J" rumor mill (AND he's been completely taken over by the Three-Eyed Raven AND that he's become king by the series finale), it's not too hard to imagine the sinister possibility that "Bran"/The Three-Eyed Raven's been playing everybody else against each other in a convoluted bid to seize ultimate power for himself.
@@topnotchshinobi the whole (we don't trust your queen) thing with the Stark girls is so bizarre and cringy, this queen put her campaign on hold and marched north to put her armies, children and her life on the front lines definding your home and saving your ungreatful ass. Yes, Dany as the queen of Westeros would have to face that threat sooner and later, but a good mad queen like Cersei would sit back as the monsters kill each others and then deal with the rest, that what a mad queen would do, not what Dany did. And Jon, oh Jon. His character was long assassinated before Dany's, he was just brain dead for the whole run of season 8, he was stripped of his leadership qualities, decisions making, even from his battle planning and fighting skills. He just doesn't WUNT IT. And it was way out of character for him to kill Daenerys the way he did (trick her to a false sense of security through physical intimacy only to stab her in the heart) just disgusting, good old Jon Snow will do his thing, you know, being HONORABLE, carries the sentence and swings the sword.
The fact that this made me bawl my eyes out... like why? I've watched the whole series 6 times, enjoyably. It's so nice to see all the actors as their real humble selves.
Emilia was always SO on point with Dany, her acting and expression in the last season gave us more power from her, it was beautiful to watch her art. But so sad that the story was going on so quick and we‘re still missing important parts to understand wtf was going on there. Two years later and my heart feels still broken. But... thank you, Emilia. You rule the World!
As someone that watches her since season 4 I spend my teenage years amazed by this character, Daenerys Targaryen also shaped as a woman and I will forever love my Queen.. I will never thank Emilia Clarke enough for her amazing job.
Daenerys character in the show: Season 1-7: Learning to become a leader for her people, gaining confidence in herself, wanting to help everyone. Season 8: Friend dies - "Well I guess I should kill everyone now 🥴"
They really rushed it. I think both the directors (for being weak storytellers without the book material) and George R. R. Martin are to blame (for being too lazy to finish the books for the directors to finish)
You guys DID make something great, and entirely unique With an amazing fantasy story that didn’t overwhelm the greatness of the characters, but brought out the characters ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Her going mad in the last season could've been so so so better...! She would've ended as one of the best villains in tv history and best in the world of Got. And Emilia would've done the acting so nicely, her scene where she gives speech to dothraki and unsullied after barbequing KL was done so nicely, it was the only good scene of the season. Her sinister speech and villain looks were so good.
@@tessdurberville711 she was meant to be a villain, i accept it, same might happen in the books as well. But she needed character development for that.
we are talking about a girl who locked up her own children to save innocent lives just bcuz a one kid got burned but yeah guess shes mad but tyrion who burned thousands alive is a sweet pie( had the biggest kill count till season 8 )🤡
She was hands down the best character in GOT. She did a lot. She should have been crowned the Queen but the last season was so shit because of the bad writing. It breaks my heart how they ruined her character and ended it like Crap. HATE THE LAST SEASON A LOT 😭🤬😡
Watching Emilia's face in interview being so full of joy and expressions, I can never see where Daenerys hides in this face. I cannot fathom how she succeeded to suppress all these facial expressions and emotivity while playing Daenerys and her stone cold face. Or the fear and anger we see in the last episodes of season 8 where she absolutely shook me, despite not liking at all what she had become so quickly with the deaths of her friends and advisors. In fact I would even go that far in saying that I was not impressed by Emilia Clarke's acting throughout the show until that specific moment in The Bells, and from then on - and maybe the incomprehension we have of her character attacking King's Landing common people - I went backwards, and realized how a journey of storytelling and acting by Emilia Clarke it was. It was subtle, but she changed, from the frightened girl sold to Khal Drogo, to the Mother of Dragons, to the Queen of Meereen, to the Conqueror of Westeros. I was always convinced that she could not hold a candle to Lena Headey as Cersei, but I retract this poor judgment: she was feisty, she was a force, she became a dragon, she really personified a true Targaryen. And now if you put in parallel her history of dramatic medical issues on top of it......... it's absolutely phenomenal. I think a tribute to this is the bond that Iain Glen and her made on the show. It is hard to tell where Jorah ends and Iain starts, but he has such an immense admiration for Emilia Clarke in every interview, and her work through her personal issues.
Love and miss Thrones so much. I still watch the series every few months because no other show has come close to comparing. Thank you for being our badass Dragon Queen and showing men that women can be just as, if not more dangerous then our male counterparts.
People say jon or tyrion is more famous than Dany. I tell all of them to just go and see their videos, whose videos have more views on RU-vid like dany's unsullied speech, dany riding drogon for first time have the most views than any scene. Or search "most popular GoT characters" you'll get your answers. Khaleesi has always been the most popular character in the show followed by Jon and then Tyrion. You only go and search.
The best character ever. The real queen of the Seven Kingdoms. And Emilia is a great actress who portrayed an incredible strong woman. Waw! Thank you for this ♥️
Thank you to Amelia Clark for bringing my favorite GoT character to life! No matter what anyone says about season eight I will always love Dany! It’s not her fault what happened happened! I teared up watching this! It’s amazing how she practically learned two different languages on top of all her english lines!
She was my favorite overall character in GOT... From nothing to everything. We can see her life from point zero.she never got the happiness every child gets in her home... She was my fav from her first scene onward.
Thank you for giving us Daenerys, Emilia. It’s such a great TV experience to root for Dany til the very end. You made it easy for us to empathise and to look past at her abrupt “storytelling switch”. And thanks for standing by Dany even at her worst in the end.
I like how in the end of each of these videos there’s either dave or dan just standing next to the actor having just witnessed how they killed their story arc
1:16 I *HATE* how they’re still trying to twist and manipulate her character. They cut the scene to fit their narrative. She only said that because they were going to throw her into the desert and wish death upon her. Also foreshadowing doesn’t equal character or plot development. You need to actually build it up, otherwise foreshadowing is useless with zero effect.
