I think the reason why "touch my fire" didn't do well is the fact that it doesn't sound british in any way. It sounds middle eastern something you would expect from Turkey Greece Armenia Azerbaijan etc. So while it's a bop it just felt fake from the Uk. There was another similar entry from one of the Scandinavian countries that did equally bad because when you listen to that kind of music you it doesn't make you think of Sweden for example
Fun fact: Andrew Lloyd Webber did attempt to represent the United Kingdom years ago by taking part in the BBC's national song selection show. The song he wrote for the selection eventually made it into the soundtrack of Jesus Christ Superstar.
There's a lot of stinkers in there but the 00's really ruined Eurovision for a lot of people. It was full of ridiculous entries and it was the absolute peak of block-voting. 2006 and 2009 were the only good Eurovision song contests from that decade in my opinion. 2009 was a huge turning point for the contest and it's been a lot better ever since.
2002, 2005 and 2009 are obviously the best options, but I think 2006 is not even that bad🤷♂️I mean they sang in a cockney accent which is a little element of ethnicity vibe...
I'm probably being a bit biased but I enjoyed quite a few of the entires. Love 2000, 2001 and 2002. 2006 and 2007 are my guilty pleasures and I absolutely love 2009. Was so happy that we did so well for once :)
You can tell the UK really didn't want win in the 00's because they are all awful. Also can we get a Miceal live that be amazing, I would go up to Derry after crona virus to watch
There's a lot of underrated entries from the UK in that decade but there were certainly some awful ones and extreme misfires. 2000 - This was actually quite good. I think Nikki French's placement was quite apt. It's not exactly a winning piece. 2001 - Bad styling doomed this entry. Other than that, it deserved better than where it eventually placed. 2002 - See guys? UK ballads always do relatively well. British people need to choose more competitive songs like "Come Back" every time they have a national selection. 2003 - Bad song. Terry Wogan is high if he thought this was a contender of a win. This was also the year that planted the seed of bitterment among UK casuals drinking the Wogan Kool-Aid. 2004 - Jumping ten places with a song that's more than good enough to remove the stench left by Gemini. Sadly, it doesn't have that spark to be considered a frontrunner but that's okay. 2005 - Underrated. UK got canceled out by other countries offering similar ethno-pop baaahps in the final that year. 2006 - Bad staging. The Cockney-accented backing singers sounded exagerrated (which is probably the intent) but things really got lost in translation here. 2007 - The UK had a stronger chance of being in contention had they selected this one other song from their national selection that year. Scooch was fine (and they sounded like a British Hi-5 alternate) but at this point in the contest's history, they were going for extremely safe choices. 2008 - Deserved better than last place. 2009 - One of the few times Britain got it right. And then the managers of Sugababes called her people and gave her Keesha's spot and basically ruined Jade's chance of breaking into the music industry as her own artist.
There were so much wrong with the UK songs in the naugthies.Jemini was robbed. It was one of the best UK entries EVER! Jessica Garlick was just lucky she got a 3rd place in a very poor year. And I would choose Scooch over Jade Ewen anyday.
I have only just discovered and subscribed to this channel and I thought Iago was a cutey but then I see Joan 😍 8, 10 and 12 points from Scotland🏴 to Spain🇪🇦👌
The one positive thing that I will say about the UK in this time is that it at least tried different styles during the decade. None of them worked but a gold star for trying!!
Oh, please! 2002 is waaaaaaaay ahead of any other entry. It's shocking how they were able to send a good song (and well interpreted) in the middle of the awful bunch they entered in the 00s.
