Short course trucks can be super cool. I always enjoy your observations. I am more of a crawler guy but my dog is all about hooning. We argue. He says Baja, I respond Dakar. We settled on King of The Hammers as a proving ground. But then Rango (the dog) said no (grrr) to 1/10 scale. You see, he himself has a 12.3" (313mm) wheelbase. Not to mention a limited budget. So we "went looking" In Chenghai district Shantou city Guangdong, China. Rango told me to forget everything I knew about intellectual property. "A clone with good DNA is golden" he whined, "and,1/12th scale I can live with". We took a left into a long passageway that glowed in a ghostly industrial green. We joined the queue and waited with an amazing array of characters. At the blue window I was given two flimsy boxes for $300 and shooed away towards the exit. Rango was spot on. The cars are quite good not brilliant. Good DNA. Still, mongrel underdogs in comparison to the Big Dogs. Alpha dogs being the Losi Baja Rey and Rock Rey. 1/10 scale is too big for us so I am happy to have found a 1/12 scale that works as a rock racer and as a trophy/baja style truck. Rango loves them both. We love the big dogs too, just from a distance. Keep up the good work!
I have a losi tenacity, arrma senton and traxxas slash and I can't keep the senton straight. I've had to really fiddle with steering rates etc to get it dialed in but I think if I had only the Senton, I would get used to it. The Losi is the best for racing of the three and you can tell it's for racing it's geometry just works (imo) but more expensive. The Senton and Slash are somewhat bashable. The Senton just wants to bash, so it needs a bit of taming. All three are great trucks with the Losi being more of a one trick pony designed for racing and you can tell. I don't think I could point to any one of them and say it's the best because it really just depends on what you want. I love my Senton and I love the Tenacity I guess the Slash would be the odd one out. But it's a great truck.
Great! Is it brushed or brushless? With Traxxas phasing out their 1/10 brushed models for the 2S brushless systems, it makes the purchasing decision easier for many I'm sure.
I know im late to the party here but i always wanted the original aluminium chassis 6s Senton, what a machine. Ive got its equal....A black Mojave EXB. Its running on the motor and esc from my v3 Talion and a Savox 2292 and that is plenty
Very good! They're a decent vehicle overall, just gotta watch out for those pebbles! (see the follow up video for that if you haven't - it's only short but worthwhile if you're unaware of the drive shaft issue I had). Cheers
I'm glad to read that, I am slowly letting Traxxas go, I've been way to brainwashed by all the marketing they do. I love the TRX4 and just switching it up for a change.
@@Teknakill they do make some good machines but geez there are a lot of samey flops that just eat RPM gear and new electronics! I was mildly insulted at how bad the two 1/16 Slash 4x4s were when we bought them a couple of years ago. Given what we paid, it was straight up a waste of money. Live and learn! (But some traxxas stuff is amazing. Xmaxx, TRX4, etc.) I guess every company has a range from lemon to legend!
Variety is the spice of life, so I feel it's great to have this for a change of pace. I already noted this and wass super welcome with the smaller RGT Crawler a couple of weeks back! I've always look intrigued into the "basher" type of rigs. Particularly, Losi's Super Baja Rey and their Monster Truck, LMT10. Those maybe need quite a huge track (Super Baja Rey) or bigger jumps (LMT10) to run them properly and be able to enjoy them at their best, but still, I would love to hear your take on those. This Arrma was a nice surprise, though! About your comment on sway ("anti-roll") bars, my take is to always start with a front one, never with a rear one. Your lateral spring rate tuning should always start with the front and only, -whether necessary, as not always the case-, fine tune with a rear one. Just my 0.02$! Thanks for the insight into an unknown (for now...) side of RC for me!!
I instantly committed your opinion to memory on the anti roll bar config, thank you. I have limited experience with them! Glad you enjoyed it. I've got 5 or 6 other faster things here too but not the LMT10. That looks fun!
@@RCTNT haha, don't take me too seriously, though, for instance, if you remember a certain Gordon Murray (designer of the McLaren F1 and more recently, his own T50), he particularly hates rear sway bars in general... I suppose it's all a matter of personal preferences and styles, as I have particularly changed - IMO for the better handling- in both my AE86 and AW11 for track and road usage, respectively.
@@YoShImUrA53 fair enough. My experience is only with anti sway bars on the slash and Stampede. I've had good success with front and rear in particular, working together to categorically make the cars much more stable on the track. Like, hugely more! But that's about it!
@@RCTNT The only RC I've had sway bars on so far is the Tamiya XV01 (rally) chassis. So I'm no expert, by any means! In my vey limited experience, I learnt the most important part of sway bars proper function starts with a proper install. It's more delicate than most would think, and not all softer sway bars are as useless as some lead themselves to believe, to which I refer again to my proper install comment. Also, you did mention a great tip on this video about trying to be consistent. That'd be the first key for me for proper stepping stone for understanding setup changes, which could naturally lead into proper hotlapping.
It’s funny you made this video I’ve been thinking about a short course truck & I truly believe everyone should have at least one fast RC even the hard core crawler fans. All my RC’s have been crawlers till I purchased the Windigo. After adding my mods & extending the wheel base so it’s more stable it’s just a blast to take out. I can tell you this these fast RC’s are getting broken all the time no matter what brand or model. It just goes with that speed. I was out with the Windigo & I was telling myself yep I think I have it tuned up & ready to just go out & have fun. Then my first thought was you just jinxed yourself. We’ll need I say more. I was moving along at a good clip & one tire’s hit a log on the ground & snapped off the wheel & broke the axle. It was my fault 100%. But that old saying about RC’s “ Use break repair use break repair “over & over is so true. But as I stated everyone should have at least one fast RC. I take it with me crawl & then break it out & I have a permanent smile on my face the whole time. So much fun. I’m curious how the Redcat short track would do in comparison to the Traxxis & Arma. I’m just starting to take notice of the short track RC’s so I don’t know that much about them. It’s just a matter of time before one arrives at my doorstep. Nice to see you put it through its paces for us to see & judge for ourselves. Great looking truck for sure.👍
Heh thanks for the story. I haven't broken the Kraton 6S yet and it has had some crazy crazy action here since I've had it. Before that though, yes, breakages went with the territory. They're fun though, eh! Nice to have a change of pace every so often! Happy bashing, my RC friend :)
@@Teknakill I have a 3s Senton and you sir are right, it also depends on tires and suspension tuning setup. I gap ALL SLASHES all day due to the way my Senton performs and the way it's setup I've beat gas cars with it. It's truly an animal never regrettes buying it one bit.
You and I have had such different experiences. I buy Traxxas because they hold up. And parts are easy to get. Everything else seems to be problematic. And I think all RC cars are the same in one way they got a weak link and then once you fix the weak link! it makes a new weak link. LOL !!! Have fun stay healthy.
Thank you for watching and letting me know! I'll have a few more faster things coming up on the channel in the next month or two. It's a full schedule this year but we're getting through it! Cheers :)
I'm disappointed with my Slash Ultimate. As with all Traxxas electronics, it should never of been made. But it does drive extremely well. I would love to have a go on the Senton, looks like a blast. (Edit: The Radiolink receiver has a giro ;)
Reeeaaaaally? There's a gyro in the radio unit in the Senton 3S BLX here?? I'll have to take a closer look, I didn't think that was the case! Thanks Jeff, I'll look into that tomorrow! Cheers :)
I've had Slash in the past. I've always ended up selling them. I had a Senton years ago when it came out. I ended up selling that one also. The only short course truck I've kept is my Blitz. It's been a tank.
@@RCTNT The Blitz was discontinued years ago. There are still parts out there for it though. I haven't needed them because it's so well made and robust. My main basher though is the Team Associated Rival MT10. Unlike the Arrma or Traxxas offerings it has a lot of metal parts and a center diff which is nice to see on a 1/10 vehicle.
Ooh very much so. That extra diff would be a big deal. Thanks for the tip. I'm not particularly knowledgeable with what's out there currently unless it's a rock crawler, scale truck or construction machine. But sometimes you want a change of pace, eh! I might have to dig into current stuff a bit more at some point soon!
The STX2 handset has a delay, I highly recommend changing it mate it is the reason its so difficult to control. Do you notice the delay in acceleration and breaking too its difficult to notice but really spoils the fun. The servo is rubbish, a 25kg I've had in mine for years and still going strong, 7.5kg is too weak✌👍🏼
It's only a slight delay but yes I'll be swapping the radio to one of my daily drivers for convenience. I like to keep things stock for the first videos at least though! Thanks for the tips :)
I just picked up a used one for $100 with upgraded motor and some metal A arms and some other parts. No battery but thats nothing. This will be my first non crawler.
That's funny, I had an nitro stampede with pretty much every integy aluminum part you could buy. Sold it for nothing too. I don't have a short course but I do like the 7th scale
I had an electric converted 1/5 scale here for a bit. That ran on 2x 6S 5A lipos in parallel, lol. That was pretty nuts! They always seem to sell for nothing eh. Crawlers hold value a little better! I've never had a nitro car. Been thinking about it for 30 years or so though, lol. Did you enjoy your Stampede or was it more trouble than it was worth, would you say?
@@RCTNT all I have to say is lipo technology is great. Temp and humidity is very relevant to tuning a nitro. Never ran the same day to day where I live. Although I did purchase a nitro boat recently. Won't hit the channel till spring but should do 50 + MPH. Otta be fun!
Ain't it just. Batteries are what allows this hobby to be so flexible and varied! Never had a boat either. I'd better wait to check yours out then! Thanks for the clever reply :)
I’m a little late to the party but I just picked up one of these to give short course a go. I’ve only ran it on a track twice now but it’s super hard to keep this thing straight and coming out of a turn sucks cause either the steering linkage or the servo where it hits point in the turning where it speeds up super fast causing over steer, real bad. However I’m still learning how to drive it myself. I’m a crawler guy, this is my only speed vehicle so takes time on the wheel.
With practice you'll get better. But the skittish nature of this car in corners is probably its weakest point. They're otherwise very durable cars. A small gyro will also be helpful, depending on what you want from the car. I am a fan of this one: amzn.to/3YbjRPG
@@RCTNT I picked up a Traxxas TSM receiver for it, just haven’t put it in yet. Since I have several Traxxas controllers already I can adapt that pretty easily (hopefully) lol Thanks for the link, didn’t know anyone else making these.
There are many out there. Most radio makers have receivers with gyro options, even the GT5 and its included 6-ch rx, or the DumboRC X6FG (G for gyro), etc. The Traxxas one is fine too, it works well. Hope you find it improves things!
I'd take the senton. I actually have the blx 3s senton was my first rc before the trail and crawler. Nothing wrong with throwing it up. Lol it's fast man 100% can't hardly control it.
I reckon it can be made more controllable. It doesn't have to be like this - a middle diff would help keep the front wheels down, as would sway bars, but the simple band-aid solution would be a cheap little gyro on the steering channel with maybe 20% correction setting. I might have a play with that to see if it's more fun or not. This little sct is a fun handful as it is though, that's for sure!
this was nice I've got a Stampede n Rustler.. my gen8 just went to my daughter.. n a Wendigo is on the way to try n replace it . lol.. I know I'll be getting a sendero at some point as the gen8 has now went to almost the same price n you've Proven the best of the two... I haven't even gotten the Wendigo n im already missing my gen8..lol
Things are busy at your place! The Gen 8 is solid but yes, the Sendero is super impressive on the rocks! Thanks for watching, Bill. Good to have you here :)
I haven't had the Liberty to test that out but I have two 6S BLX s, and two Losi Tenacity s, DB and TT Pro, if you like short course you would love the TT the best handling basher racer ever
I have both and only bad thing is the Dbpro out of the box diff fluid is bad and burns up other wise its a fun and different type of feel when driving it. With said it's still not a senton the senton is just mad it seems and makes me beat it when I drive it for some reason . Do thus go to track race both cars to see what one you get best time with that the real deal on truth of what one does better for your style of driving . I think because we all have opinions but truth is always the answer it all comes down to the driver style
You might be the first person I've heard of who had an issue with the rear diif! How did the original one break? Land hard under power or something like that? Glad you're enjoying it :)
@@RCTNT no I don’t send any of my cars off of ramps or anything like that and I don’t really crash much either lol, the teeth on the stock plastic rear diff stripped out after over a year of running it on only 3s. Upgraded too steel and I am also going to upgrade the housing on the new diff too the hot racing metal diff housing too add extra beef
Thanks! It's a super fun machine. I'll have a follow-up video coming soon for this thing. Had it at a skate park recently and it is surprisingly tough. I'm loving this machine! Cheers for watching :)
I've shared my adventures on the channel here. Broke the front bulkhead after sending it to the moon on concrete. Also snapped the driveshaft after a rock ate got jammed in there. Both were preventable. I'd say it's been an absolute tank so far, well exceeding my expectations for durability to an astonishing level.
It's a great vehicle! So far I've found the stock shocks to be pretty good. You might consider some stiffer springs on the rear set, but really that's it. Even just preloading them some more could be enough. Pistons and oil viscosity is about right - I've driven mine several days this week on track and big jumps and it's tuned for that. So I guess, start with stock setup. Save your money. You may find you're completely happy with the OEM units :)
If you had to choose either this truck or the Team Associated Pro4 sc10 for short course racing(entry level noobie). Ive got a $600 budget and want to get the most bang for the buck I can get. Which would you go with ?? Thanks!
I'm not knowledgeable enough to be a useful source for this decision! I may look at the Pro4 SC10 RTR at some point but for now, my thinking would be the SC10 is probably the better choice. Why? Racing heritage and design in mind for this vehicle, while Arrma make (excellent) bashers, not racers. But really, find someone who has reviewed both with an eye for racing. I may get to this in the next few months but I've not had an SC10 yet so can't comment with first hand knowledge. Good luck with the decision!
where are you guys selling all these stampedes dirt cheap at??? I need spare parts.. blew out my transmission twice this past weekend...lol. more steel replacement parts coming.. aluminum big bore shocks.. 2 sets of steel axles.. steel tube roll cage.. i love the thing n what other rig can you buy everything in steel to completely rebuild a vxl transmission for 25 bucks us????
I don't think I ever blew a transmission, even on 4S brushless power. Your gear mesh may be too loose if you've done it twice. Some people use paper when they're setting it but I tend to just snug it right up then move it out the tiniest bit so there's just a hint of movement when you rock the spur gear back and forth. My Stampede had the slipper and diff inners from the X01. If it's helpful, this is my thread for the Stampede from a decade ago. Still full of relevant stuff! www.ausrc.com/threads/dedicated-traxxas-stampede-4x4-vxl-thread-mods-breakages-upgrades-discussion.32757/
@@RCTNT thanks for the info.. I've had 2 stampede now the 90s version n the vxl both 2wd. I've never broken a chassis part though.. ppl say they snap a arms n such but i have yet to have such.. I've only had axle issues till now these are my first transmission issue other than yokes.. you gotta go steel even on the brushed models
@@billknepp1965 ah I see, I've only had the 4wd vxl version. I understand the 2wd gearbox is obviously very different! Steel makes sense. Ok, happy modding, Bill!
@@RCTNT its internal.. my slipper n spur are unscaved.. the 1st time it was the pin that holds the spur gear on the shaft had sheared off n gotten lodged in the idler mesh.. n wiped half the teeth off it.. i rebuilt everything n went with an old nylon idler as I had no spare steel.. so im thinking it didn't take it... haven't opened things yet waiting on parts.. im definitely checking the diff out you mentioned... I've had several types but none have satisfied...
Great video mate im Just getting into rc cars and bought the same car cant wait to give it a run , what mods did you do to the platic cover to strengthen? Cheers mik
Hey mik, nice car choice! I haven't come back to the Senton yet, though I plan to. Have many cars to get through currently! Replacing the drive shaft was very easy. Next I'll put a stone-prevention cover over the tub chassis, either a diy thing with fly screen mesh or I'll buy a suitable similar product that fits the car. Either way I think that's probably the way to go. Enjoy the machine, it's a good one!
My infection mega has the exact same deal where rocks get stuck right there causing steering to jam. I mess a little cover out of clear lexan. Very ugly. Ha. Works though.
They're tough for the price but my Kraton 6s undoubtedly has better design for durability. That said, the Senton 3s is very good-just do that same shield over the center shaft as a precaution and you'll get many hours of fun out of this thing :)
@@thejeepinrealtor5742 I guess intended purpose counts for a lot. You'd be getting big air with the Kraton more than the Senton! I do, anyway! Also now I think about it, I did install some reinforcing alu parts when I first got mine. Front and rear shock tower stabilisers, etc. Yeah, you have a fair point!
@@RCTNT the 6s Kraton is an awesome machine. They’re just as likely to break when new as most though imo. But once the “tweaks” (i.e. parts replaced or added lol) are worked through its fantastic. Top 5 for me for sure.
It's not that bad, honestly. I just filmed 4 bashers yesterday arvo for a coming video and cleaning them all took about 10 minutes total afterwards. Water is the big one though, it really is worth the labour to look after your car. But dust and stuff is no problem :)
I don't know you'd want to buy one of these for the track when there are other popular options available. For a basher and general fun machine though, the Senton and Slash are pretty tough to beat!
@@RCTNT Yeah that's 4 sure . Mate your channel is so relaxing to watch, I watch alot of RU-vid rc but you're channel has massive potential I know I'm a tiny little channel but from what I've seen on RU-vid with all the big guns your channel is underrated. 😀😀👍👍
@@dominic9279 thank you! I'm only new on the scene, I guess it takes time to be discovered. My 6 month anniversary on here is in just under a week. Maybe I should do something special for it. Cheers for the kind words, they're nice to read.
I think the Senton 3s is the toughest 1/10 SCT on the market today. I still think it has it's minor issues, but they'll probably be fixed in the V4 version.
Watching this again, got mine las Saturday, sports, lol thier awesome, had a scare though, but soughted now, hav a look at me vid 🙏🤔😷👍, also yor vid has lots of info on senton, more than most bro,😷👍👍👍
Heh, that probably won't be happening, I don't think. Have had an 8S 1:5 scale SCT here for a while and the 1:7 isn't much smaller. I think we'll be sticking with smaller stuff until I move and can make a bigger course! Then, well, definitely :D
I disagree. It is overpriced to some extent, but it's still not terrible. I've really been enjoying my slash. I'm going to do a round up comparison video once the individual reviews are done for all 12 cars and I've been driving all of them to get more experience with them all as I go. As a driver, the slash 4x4 vxl is solidly mid pack once you add the sway bars it really needs. Yeah, it was really expensive to buy but it's far from rubbish!
@surfside75 lol nice. TRX, Yes and yes. 4s, Yes, it's right to there. 3s BLX is crazy good for tough bashing, but I'm not so sure about value when compared to something like the AE Pro4 SC10. It's definitely a solid runner though, no question!
It's taken a while to get to the follow up video of this but I'm hoping to make it soon. We'll put a Slash against the Senton and rate it for fun, reliability, performance, etc. The Senton is a fine choice and there's a reason the Slash sells so well. They're both good basic vehicles with room for upgrades and both can take a pounding. I think the Slash may be a little more durable out of the box with its drive shaft protection and better axle and wheel coupling, but the value for money is better with the Senton. The Senton could use a gyro for traction control for stability, which some of the nicer Slash models come with already, but that's a $20 addition if you think it's needed. So, if I was buying, I'd be looking at whichever of the two I could get in brushless 4x4 for less and then buy when it's on sale. You'll be happy with either.
@@RCTNT yes that would be awesome. I will sub ...I am trying to buy one next week. But I can give my money only once. So I was wondering to go with the slash or the Santon
@@demofilm thanks and welcome. I won't have this video up within the next week. I have much I'm already working on first and will need to schedule that video in. You may need to look around for other opinions if you're buying soon and are undecided. I'm confident you'll be happy with either vehicle. They're similar in performance and are both tough. I like the Arrma brushless system better than Traxxas' electronics, having had both. My personal choice would be the Senton at this stage, but it's close. If you can get a brushless 4x4 slash for a better price than the Senton 3s BLX, go for it. Lastly, if you're planning on running 2s rather than 3s lipos, if you buy the brushless version of either of these, it's possible you'll get by for even a couple of years without needing upgrades or any big repairs. I speak from experience with a stock Stampede VXL here that endured many hours of bashing with only sway bars installed as an after market accessory. On 2s it was nearly unbreakable, apart from the body, which slowly deteriorated with crashes. Another Stampede here had a bunch of money sunk into it and while it was awesome and quick, I did break stuff. Here's my thread (I'm cragv on forums and such) - www.ausrc.com/threads/dedicated-traxxas-stampede-4x4-vxl-thread-mods-breakages-upgrades-discussion.32757/
