LMAO I felt you when you started singing "You should've listened to your friends, you would have been over this by now, over this by noowwww". I still do the same.
awesome to see young people loving DGD. all drama aside, all their eras have unique sound and its always amazing. Also word of advice if you've never seen DGD live: buy their tickets as soon as they post dates. Their shows sell out very quickly. At least in Florida 😅
The Kurt Travis era was my favorite along with my brother from the raw emotion in the lyrics and vocals to the instruments Death Star was by far one of my favorites.
Thank you so much for the love! I’ll either have Jackpot Juicer be it’s own video, or in a part 2 if I miss a few albums. I’m glad that you enjoyed the video!
I relate to your Acceptance Speech experience a lot. When i first listened to the album, only a month or so ago, I nearly hated it, especially The Jiggler. Now, the only tracks i enjoy are Strawberry Swisher pt. 3 and Jesus H. Macy because of TSC2.
Nice and quick over view for those who need to know the quick history of the band. While I don’t agree with all the best song selected from each album, I can respect the selection made. DGD is so different that I believe any song can mean more to any listener. And my guy said “Open Your Eyes and Look North” was more stand out song on DBM1 versus “Lemon Meringue Tie” 1000% respect that, song is so underrated. Looking forward to part 2 🤙🏻
Wow, I love this extensive comment! I truly am privileged to have people like you watching and commenting on the video. I enjoy how we can healthily agree and disagree on certain tracks being our favourites. “Open Your Eyes and Look North”, will always have a special place in my heart ❤️. Thank you once again for commenting!
I too find myself singing "oh you should have listened to your friends" randomly throughout the day Also the robot with human hair pt 3 is my current favorite song from the deathstar album
the first song that introduced me was headhunter and philosopher king, but i got attached when i listened to we own the night. god damn that song is one of the best
Dude it is so nice to hear that someone else appreciates Swisher Pt.1 absolute banger of a song and it hits every time I play it. Also I relate to you when it comes to the deathstar segment with relationships. I am currently in the exact situation you described and I actually have to avoid listening to Deathstar because of it.
Dude the Swisher songs are some of the best things the band has ever made, I’m glad to hear you like em too! What are the chances you ended up relating to my little story there aha. In a weird way it make me happy that I told it. Thanks for commenting too
@blacksugarlovin Came back to this to recommend Divisi by A Lot Like Birds. Kurt Travis wasn't on it so I avoided it for a while but man does it hit me hard. Fantastic album.
I probably forgot to mention it, or I wanted to give love to the other tracks on DBM. But I think it goes without saying that Lemon Meringue Tie is a certified classic and banger!
Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve been meaning to listen to their stuff for quite some time now. When I get around to it I’ll make a video and or videos for them
i tried so hard but the singing was getting so cringe I'm sorry T___T tapped out at 9:42 . pretty good besides that tho I just cant handle second hand embarrassment LOL
DGD is such a wild enigma of a band. I completely understand the hate the music gets. You either get it or you dont and you cant convince people to convert. Maybe its in our DNA. Maybe its pico de gallo
Ahh okay, I was pretty confident that it was just the happiness era, but thanks for correcting me. I’m glad you noticed and liked the 8bit songs in the background, I figured it would add a nice touch
Great vid, All valid top song choices, nice touch with bringing your own performances in there too ;) I got into DGD around the time Happiness/DTBM2 came out, (After Discovering Jonny Through the "Isles and Glaciers" project with PTV and Chiodos) So it's really cool to hear the opinions people introduced during the Tilian era on the old days. (Honestly for me I faded out of DGD post Mothership apart from a few highlights (Evaporate snatched a piece of my soul, I had goosebumps all over, I even said to a friend it was the DGD "Donny What a catch") Looking Forward to your PT 2 look on Jackpot Juicer, The mid album songs/Post-Tim songs. And the new work with Andrew Wells. I think He's a great middle point between Jonny and Tilian, His Vocals With Eidola are solid. (Also, I can't recommend the Secret Band albums enough. It's Will, Jon and Matt going balls to the wall with creativity and chaos, Meat Fetish is a personal fave, and might even hint on the future of DGD. since their guitarist is joining the touring lineup and If what's been said by Andy is anything to go by.)
Thank you for this mountain of a comment! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and my performances aha. It’s been really great getting to see everyone’s experience and feelings with the band! The WISRO script has been written, so now it’s time to work on the Jackpot Juicer one. As for Secret band and the other projects you mentioned, I’ll try and give them a look sometime soon
@@blacksugarlovin dunkateer, flamiscally reclined bank of a dodo bird, revealed my his pitch unstable clank of crank!! Ramblings of a snorted flimsy tinky
I feel like tillian has the weakest vocals out of the roster. Then again i quit listening to them in 2010ish then “refound” them in 2022 and I just felt like his style was so jarring probably due to my expectations of what i thought dgd should sound like
@@TheSuperSangan I feel like this a completely fair opinion, considering this is how I felt when I first heard Acceptance Speech, and had to get used to Tilian being the clean vocalist. I’m glad that you “refound” them tho
This was a great band while it lasted. Hopefully Tilian gets to sing his old songs but akin to a Taylor Swift move with his own versions of the instrumentation. He is signed to the same record label and all the music belongs to them anyways.
I still think that they’re a great band and I’m excited for what the new era holds. But I agree with you on what ting to hear Tilian’s version of the new songs
@@blacksugarlovin yea especially knowing how a lot of their bigger hits were just repurposed solo material from Tilian’s solo stuff (lyrics). In terms of the band, I think they need to rediscover their sound, the new stuff sounds like it was meant for Tilian, even though he didn’t get a songwriting credit. So either they’re still subconsciously writing with Tilian in mind (because they’re used to it) or they took his name out of it despite his contributions. I’m leaning towards the former, to which rediscovering their sound will be needed. I find it hard to listen to an obvious Tilian chorus without Tilian, and I’m not listening to Eidola 2.0.
I think you were right the first time about Jon not having doing the unclean vocals on Deathstar! - I think Will is even ‘seen’ doing them in the “Zoloft” video - boy has that record aged well
If there’s one thing that’s true about DGD, it’s that the band sucked until Tilian came. JC isn’t good, and neither is Kurt Travis. Having bad taste is okay, but pretending they were good isn’t. I’m excited to see how Andrew and Jon tackle lead together.
I respectfully disagree with parts of this statement. The bad was good with solid instrumentation and JC’s vocals. He had the strongest vocals of all 3, Tilian had the best mix of vocals and lyrics, and Kurt was the weakest in both but made up for it in vibes. But I think that’s the beauty of all this, it’s that we can have different opinions on the same band that we love
