A Deep Dive Into Gayle : The Good, The Bad, The Unhinged | Bob's Burgers Character Deep Dive 

Thank you guys so much for watching! I love Gayle, so this video was fun to make. We talk about everything in this video so I hope you guys enjoy it. I hope this video didn't come off too negative. My intention was to cover everything and this is how everything ended up stacking up. This is one of the more complicated video essays I written but it was a ton of fun. Again, hope you guys like it. I know Gayle was a popular request. Also TW: There is some talk of SA in this video. Nothing too heavy but I figured it was important to talk about. So if that makes you uncomfortable skip the Lovers and Bob chapter.

It's funny how she's literally Tina Gene and Louise all together.

The fact they didn't keep her with Fronz is a crime. They were unironically perfect for each other

Gayle's solution to Louise being afraid of the dentist was kind of genius.

Gayle is like Dale Gribble from King of the Hill. A great character on TV, an absolute nightmare in real life.

I actually really like that as yet another twist on typical sitcom formula, Bob dislikes his inlaws- but he actually puts the effort in to try to understand them and tolerate them. So many sitcoms have the “dislikable inlaws of wife” trope but in this show rather than Bob’s reaction being centralized on getting rid of or dreading them, he at the very least tries to give them the space to be dislikable but within the boundaries of what he’s comfortable with. He dislikes them, but doesn’t hate them; he’s what men actually should do in these situations, especially when their wives love their families like in this case.

“Self imposed rival” TOO ACCURATE ITS WILD 😩🤣

One of the more recent episodes had her state that Linda had an affair with HER Husband Linda almost nonchalantly correct her that it was the other way around but Gale simply said “Well, that’s not how I remember it” Her delusions may be getting worse

“My cat was right about you!” lol Gayle is a mess but may be my favorite supporting character. She gets some great lines and only Megan Mullally could bring her to life properly.

It's funny how Gayle has "middle child energy" without being a middle child 😂

It’s astonishing how Gayle HASEN’T worn out her welcome. She’s is used the perfect amount.

Gayle has always been the hardest character for me to laugh with on the show. But, the dress made of shrimp at mass?! That visual and sound design sends me EVERY TIME! 😂😂😂

The whole plot with Linda making Bob play along with Gayle's sexual harassment only to call him a "hurtful slut" when she actually saw them together was way too close to the typical "woman blames man for other woman's sexual harassment of him and calls him a cad" plot for me, the only consolation was that Bob at least called Linda out on it. (That said, my favorite part of the episode was Tina trying the Prince of Persuasion stuff on Dr. Yap because it swung around from "PoP is disgusting sexism" to "this is a teenage girl hitting on her dentist and failing".)

Yeah the worst thing Linda has ever done was humour Gayle when Bob kissed her after the dentist (only because he thought Gayle was Linda). Linda lets her sister grope her husband against his will, which is absolutely messed up. Luckily they never had Linda act like that again and Bob WOULD NEVER EVER cheat on Linda (I will never count the accidental kiss as cheating because Bob was on anesthesia and he thought he was kissing his wife of 13+ years. When he found out it wasn’t Linda he was gutted and told her immediately)

Gal's not a bad artist really. The spit paint thing is the sort of raw, personal touch modern art is built on (and it's less icky than the guy that painted with his semen). And I love her poetry. "Little cat you're just like me you go outside and squat to pee. SQUAAAAT SQUAAAAT ... SQUAAAAT"

i kind of ship gayle with the food truck enthusiast randy and wish there would be an episode where she meets him thru bob and linda. Randy is a trustfund kid who is so socially awkward is still a virgin but has enough money to pursue whatever wild dream he has and i think they would be interesting together and have a lot of fun

My dad’s sister is basically Gayle (only my dad has contact with her anymore). She spent all her money on horses she couldn’t afford to keep after their dad passed away and then had to move out bc she was still living at home with him…in her late 60s. Her and Gayle are pretty much what happens when neurodivergent women get overlooked (and possibly coddled by family who didn’t prepare them for the world until it was too late). Linda and my dad are both kinda novelties in their families for even having a secure marriage and kids lol.

That one episode where she ate Lipstick because "She wanted to feel red inside" almost freaking ended me lmfao

I honestly have a love-hate relationship with Gayle. She really shined as a character in "Lorenzo's oil but Linda" and "The Kids Runaway", "Purple Rain-union" and "The Gayle, The Cook, and Steve." with her character, but she also took three steps back in "Gayle Making Bob Sled", "Theres no business like Mr. Business Business", and "Into the Mild". So I can be sympathetic to her but also be annoyed with how she treats Linda and Bob. I will say how accurate it is with how the Belcher kids view her versus how the adults view her.

I like to think Gale broke it off with fronz for drama and she self sabotage her chance for a committed relationship. Her random make outs with random characters she probably enjoys the thrill of a one off make out and get bored or feels the need for a dramatic romance and so she doesn’t get far in the dating game.

Mr Frond isn’t unhinged like gale is, his doors still on

I’m obsessed with the “but not Bob and Linda” rant 😂

I really wish we saw more of Gayle's interactions with her parents. Like, why did they constantly bicker? How did Linda become the peacemaker?

You just out here throwing that "make her yogurt greek" line around like someone who hasn't really thought about what that means. OH THE VISUALS!

Itd be nice if we were told what happened with Frond and Gale in any newer episode, like the kids could need their parents to come into the school for new trouble, but Bob and Linda cant and send Gale in as a third adult in the kids' lives. Omfg what if Teddy gets upset that he wasnt their sub adult and they agree to send in both Gale and Teddy???? And in that trainwreck of a parent-student-counselor meeting, Frond is responding really healthily to Gale's issues and Gale gets mad cause what she wants is indulgence and attention, not healthy strategies and tools! Omg I need this episode storyline

And, hasn’t this season 14 been the strongest season so far? Most episodes this season are epic…

I'm sorry but i hate Gayle 😂😂😂 the only time i liked her is when she helped Louise at the dentist. Although I loved seeing her and Mr. Frond together! Their mutual craziness was a match made in heaven ❤ I'm so disappointed the writers gave up on them😔

It's not rude to refuse to be haunted by someone's dead ass grandma, but I doubt Mr. Frond meant it that way. He didn't make the doll from the shawl to invoke his grandma's spirit into trapping Gayle or anything. He just seems like a highly unorthodox sort of romantic that was going a bit too far, which in its own way is perfect for Gayle. I wish the writers didn't just drop this subplot. Would have been nice to see Gayle dump him for being too crazy or some sort of resolution, but it really was not all that important. That episode was more about the kids learning how to accept people than establishing a new canon

Some episodes I like Gayle and her sad quirky nature. Other times she's so infuriating (especially when she tries to borrow money the Belchers don't have) that I don't blame Bob and Linda if they decided to just cut her out of her lives. But I guess they would feel too sorry for her to do that. Also Gayle seems like the type who decides when she feels " just good enough" and forgoes taking her medication also in part to save money.

Someone put Gayle out of everyone's misery. Like, she is a menace in a horrible way if you place yourself in a perspective different from a viewer. 😂

Louise is going to grow up to look like Linda and have Bob's personality. Gene is going to grow up to look like Bob and have Linda's personality. Tina is going to grow up and be Aunt Gayle.

There's the episode with the super lice, and I think it's when Frond tells Tina he was dating some one, and Tina got crazy aggressive when she found out it wasn't Gayle. So maybe Frond got bored and started fooling around?

Obsessed with being popular as a teen, always talking about her friend Ginger, not above backstabbing, married to a burly monotone man? Linda is a grown-up Dodie Bishop!

I also always skip the SA episode. Gayle... If I'm going to enjoy any of her episodes I have to pretend that episode doesn't exist. I love the kids interpretations of Gayle by their stories they create to feed her ego. It's such a fun episode to see how they each understood her. Especially Louise comparing her to Aunt Lyssa in GOT 😅🤣

Gayle reminds me of my aunt. For a lot of my childhood, she was single and went through a lot of dysfunctional relationships, had too many cats, and depended a little too much on some family members that indulged her. I imagine that what happened to my aunt will happen to Gayle - she'll meet someone who has the ability to handle the ups and downs, and moves to a place where she can have as many animals (especially cats) as she wants... so like a farm in the country. My aunt has always been great with me, my sister and cousins as an aunt, but as an adult, I have come to see that she was a lot like Gayle until about age 50. I fully believe that Gayle will find her 50s and 60s to be awesome.

My sister is just like gale. She was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Its very hard to be around someone who can't take accountability, flat out lies, infantilizes themselves, cross personal boundaries, and lives in delusion. We dont speak anymore. I miss her because she is really funny and nice when she wants to be.

Maybe it's just me, but I really get the vibe that Gale is neurodivergent. Take her emotional sensitivity for instance, yes that could just be a result of a neglected child, but idk... It really seems like Gale has rejection sensitive dysphoria rather than her just being an adult who never learnt how to regulate their emotions.

2:48 I think she got a lot more than just a little make-out session there. I mean, the lyrics in that song she sang were as explicit as you can get without being explicit. And that kiss she gave him after claiming his neck hair as hers? That's no "little make-out session" kiss. That is the kiss Venus uses to slay Adonis! That was what "Ghost Boy," was trying to do to Tina, but it hits the mark!

I think the first half is the best. In fact he wrote it as a passion project while writing another article. When he turned it into Rolling Stone, they wanted to expand it into a book so paid him to go back again.

I think Linda should stop pitying her sister. Which will lead to Gale toughening up or at least not bullying Linda anymore

Gayle has the hidden key to the light at the end of the tunnel. She’s the most disheveled and most times when she’s involved and it gets hectic she’s not just the savior, but also brings everyone together to cement herself as the loaner of the family. Good video. Appreciate you. And Linda is AN AMAZING SISTER. She understands Gayle and lets her lie, and mostly Bob/linda together I cannot figure out if it’s a bad codependency thing with Gayle? Or it truly helped her? But Gayle is extremely paranoid and quite possibly one of the most important artists of her time. Think about it. If she were to gain popularity in say 10 years and her quarks were uncovered in some blog turned book…I think in the near future you might just see cat buttholes at every living room wall everywhere.

Yep. I think that episode about Dr. Yap is everybody's worst one. For me it wasn't Gayle's behavior, it was Lindas, especially when she slapped Bob. But, then again I hope that one day Linda will finally get attacked by her entire band of rabid daytime raccoons , so who am I to say.🤣
