When my husband found out, he called all their mutuals friends, invited everyone over for an intervention and they all out-right unfriended him due to the way he handled their questions/intervention. When he left, everyone broke down crying and angry. I’ve never seen a room of grown men crumple like that. He has lied to them for years, hurt them and betrayed them. Then when confronted, he lied (then finally admitted). It really hurts to find out someone dear to you isn’t the person you thought they were. I hope everyone is doing okay now. Hopefully they can work through their trauma. ❤

Boyinaband was a huge idol of mine when I was younger, and had a major impact on my teenage years. I was devastated when the allegations came out. It’s feels so surreal that someone who was generally regarded as a great creator could be such a horrible person. As a grooming victim, I can say with full certainty that textbook "sexual, physical, financial, or emotional" abuse does not need to take place for the child to be traumatized. I won't go into the details, but after only a month being with someone nearly x3 my age as a teenager, it still gave me severe issues down the line. I suffer from extreme paranoia and a phobia of cameras (this was an online relationship so i think it started feeling like he could watch me through them). I'm now having to work these issues out in therapy 6 years later. Large age gaps while one or both of the parties are underage is HARMFUL, no matter what takes place. Period. A former classmate (16yo girl at the time) was about to marry a 23yo and she was so happy to marry a stranger ( at his parents arrangement) because she had seen pics of him and his COOL RED car on FB. The arrangement fell through because the parents couldn't settle on the bride price. Thing is, I met this classmate again once she was in year 3 of med school and she confessed that if she had went through her stupid idea of running away from home and going to be 23yo's town (she only knew the town he was working in, no address, not even his contact information) so that her parents would be forced to agree with the marriage, she would have ruined her future, her reputation and would not have been able to even finish high school. Her older sister was married either at 17 (legal with parental agreement) or the moment she was 18 to a man in his late 20s and is totally miserable, couldn't finish school, had a baby at 18 and almost died during that childbirth mainly because she didn't know how to take care of herself and felt ashamed asking other people, ever since the husband had isolated her and she is too afraid to leave because there is no way for a drop out to support her children. I'm sharing this to show how little it takes to impress a 15-16yo, so it is the hight of inappropriateness to get with a teen when you're in your 20s.

As long as the fan is fully indulged into what the creator does and who they are, they could be relatively unknown but still adored enough by that particular person to sway their opinions and overpower them on that basis alone.

Telling them to lose weight so they have a young like figure. Using his mental health as a tool for abuse justification. Even making them say or do sexual acts that have a non consensual narrative. We are mostly missing the co-habitation with victims. Hope the situation will be probably handled .

As a 26 year old lesbian, I want to put some of the power dynamics into perspective: In my teens, I was incredibly insecure. I was looking for any sort of positive attention. If a creator who I admired who was older than me started showing interest, even if they were a man, I would have responded just because I felt so bad about myself. I was very fortunate that there were no people in my life who took advantage of that, but I can absolutely see myself at that age falling into a relationship like that. You'll never truly know someone, all the details about them, every thought that goes through their mind, or every single action they have ever made. I stand by my original assessment that the letter being leaked is a warning shot. I submit the following evidence: 1) No past girlfriend has come forward to defend him. Even if he himself is planning a response, why hasn't anybody who the letter says was a victim at least come forward and said "I personally am not a victim". 2) Whoever leaked the letter - whether it is genuine or not - must have known that nobody was going to come forward because the one thing everyone can agree on is that this was done to hurt Dave's public image, and it only succeeds in doing that because nobody has called bullshit yet. 3)The post itself mentions that OP first tried the friends/family route, and is now going public. Clearly this is an escalation of some sort. 4) Dave no longer has a revenue from his online persona, as he has not posted in ages. As such, this doesn't hurt his pocket UNLESS receipts start coming out at which point hearsay on the internet becomes fact and his personal revenue streams are hit too. 5) The leaker only gave exactly enough evidence for Dave to know which screenshots exist and who is willing to go public, while still leaving enough ambiguity for Dave to weather the storm. 6) The only things which everyone agrees he is in the wrong for comes from the wayback machine and was NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL LEAK. That's REALLY important because it really shows that the actual damage done to Dave was not included in the intent of the original poster. If everything had gone according to their plan, Dave would still have 100% plausible deniability. Very likely that they did not intend for that piece of evidence to come to light. My conclusion: Dave is up to his old ways again and his ex girlfriends have teamed together to try to get him to stop. First they tried the family/friends, which didn't work. So they leaked this letter as a warning shot to Dave: either he gets it together, or they go public with everything. Unintentionally, internet sleuths found hard evidence of past wrongdoings and so Dave got damaged anyway. What's left to see is if he chooses to compromise anyway and no more evidence is ever leaked, or if he thinks the damage is done anyway, goes on the defensive and the really damning evidence comes to light. Not saying this is 100% certainly the case but it seems the most likely story to me.

Seeing Dave as subject of these allegations is such whiplash to me, since I used to idolize him as a teenager (even if it was for a few months rather than years). Even having him interacting with some of my favourite people on the internet today (like Jacksepticeye and Corpse Husband, for examples) and thinking about this is so... Jarring. I hope the victims get their justice, and I sincerely hope Dave gets his punishment.

At this point, almost every RU-vidr that I grew up truly enjoying and even crushing on have turned out to be truly awful human beings. Ones like Onision, I wasn't surprised by the actions, I was more surprised by the extent. But for ones like Cry, Destery, and now Boyinaband, it's honestly devastating to me. To see people who I felt actually influenced 14 year old me (and fawned over) abuse whatever influence and power they're given is horrible. One of the first boyfriends I ever had was 18 when I was 13. I was so scared of my dad finding out that I broke up with him. He seemed legitimately furious with me even though my desire at the time was to protect him. No conscience whatsoever about the fact that he was an adult looking at a child with a romantic lense, and treating her as if she could process the relationship the same way. Looking back now, I feel so incredibly used and stupid. He continued to date girls my age. I know you can never trust someone's online persona, but I respected how Dave was open with his mental health problems and encouraged others to get help. It's heartbreaking to know that he may well be just like everyone who has ever hurt me.

Damage is absolutely done when an adult dates a teenager. I'm still affected by having dated a 21 year old when I was 15. Doesn't help that he lied about having just turned 18. And I can't imagine if I had actually gone through with letting him fly me out to meet him. Just the things he'd say to me and about me fucking destroyed my perception of myself and my self worth. So to see Jaden internet ghost him, says a lot as she has seemed like one person that to use like he did, using her disorder for clout, then "allegedly" getting others to stay skinny with abusive treatment, is pretty disgusting. As someone who dealt with being 14 and a 19 and 21 yo talking to me online, I had never sent anything I looked up to them like family. Having someone you look up to saying creepy stuff and making you say the L word to them, it affects you for years. To this day I deal with trauma to this day 3 years later. You're 100% right even a hint of a relationship ruins life's and affects long term mental health.

In the UK age of consent is 16 years old, You can also get married at 16, but you need your parents' consent. You need to be 18 years to get married without parental permission because if you are under 18, you can't enter into a legal contract without adult support. I think this fact shows that 16 might be a bit too young.

I dated several grown men while in highschool and thought I was so cool and mature. I was legally raped by several grown men and was fully convinced I was in control of the situation. It’s crazy how fucked up a situation can get, and how a victim can feel completely responsible for what happened.

Metalhead here, a lot of the heavy metal music I listen to has weird lyrics like “We oil up the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies!”, but none of the metal lyrics (or just song lyrics in general) I’ve heard have gone anything like “take me without my consent!”

I'm a survivor of some messed up stuff, so I'd never dream of victim blaming or victim shaming. But, we also have the Depp vs Heard case to show that sometimes people lie for attention and money. Some of the allegations have proof, some don't. Even one victim is one too many, but you also can't deny that the numbers are being inflated for clout and that does more damage to victim rights movements. Praying everyone affected finds closure.

It's sad hearing this is still a major problem to this day and the saddest thing is that teenagers ignore adults no matter how serious the warnings are because they naturally want to rebel, I was one of those teenagers, my parents and brothers warned me countless times to NOT interact with people online as a minor unless I can prove the person I am talking to is either also a minor or a harmless adult. I appreciate this coverage. I 100% agree, it's important to take allegations seriously but to also remember sometimes people make allegations with no proof, just to hurt people. It's important to take the facts as they come in. There are people with real stories of abuse. There are also people with real stories of being the recipient of false stories. It's a problem that awful people take advantage of and make it worse for actual victims to come forward. Edit: also as someone who like Dave, I am very disappointed in the fact that there is at least 1 known victim.

I've been living under a rock for a while, so 7 months after your posting this video, this is how I even found out about this subject and that creator.

this one is particularly tough for me. usually when things like this happen it's with people that i'm relatively disconnected to, or that never really impacted me all that much that their betrayal matters. However Boyinaband is different in the case that he was actually a pretty big idol for me growing up. This being even though i never watched all that much of his content, his "Don't Stay in School" song actually built a lot of my own perspectives on the school system, and I looked up to him for it. i'm not overly upset about it seeing as i'm rather good at avoiding parasocial relationships, and cutting creators out is usually easy for me to do, but it's still majorly dissapointing to find out something like this about someone who helped shape my own moral code. it stings. i'm sure there are a lot of people who feel the same. it just sucks man.

this was a big shock and terribly saddening news. finding out that a RU-vidr that no one would speak bad of and was thought to be a wonderful genuine person turns out to be someone so terrible. with dave it truly feels like being stabbed in the back knowing that he helped you and yet he hurt others whilst you were praising him for being one of the few true good RU-vidrs with no controversy but now it just hurts

While I don't exactly want to condone any of his antics, I do need to point out that 'overdosing on drugs' is a bit hyperbolic in this case. He literally said 'my psych suggested upping the dosage, so I did.' , which to me doesn't sound overdosing. Also the med in this case is an ssri, which is not like a hard drug like adhd-meds or pain meds. So on that particular note, I'd say this was a missed remark, entirely.

This is why you dont idolize anyone. You can never know anyone fully. The man who abused me was a local hero via providing healthcare to poor and disabled. My driend’s father, a man I considered my hero as a parental figure, and who was quite a good father, molested girls my age while i stayed at their home many times and i never even got any creepy vibes from him, he was absolutely respectful. When I was 16 i was with a guy who was 22 at the time, and when they found out his family blamed me for “breaking up him and his long term girlfriend” and i met him through ny then roommate- she stopped talking to me cause it couldnt be his fault it had to be my fault. Statistically speaking, I’m more prone to believe the victim. That being said, I’m defiantly going to be waiting for more info before formulating my entire opinion. The evidence so far isn’t doing him any favors though.

Wow, this whole thing brought up a situation I haven't thought about in a long time now. It reminds me of a time in high school where a 19 year old (he had to redo his senior year, which I think he failed a second time and ended up dropping out) wanted to date a barely 15 year old me. I was weirded out by it but strangely all of my friends were incredibly for it. I later found out they encouraged him to ask me out after he confessed to them that he wanted to date me. Shortly after that he started to be very flirty with me and look for any reason to touch me, on my end I couldn't figure out what had changed literally overnight until my friends confessed their part in it. He had my friends pressure me on his behalf when I rejected him and stopped speaking to him. I stuck to my guns though and vehemently refused every day for about 3 months, my "friends" only stopped when I eventually snapped at them and lost my temper a little. He quickly went on to date another freshmen girl and I was disgusted by it and glad to never speak to him again.
