If you actually want to help your stalker, you don’t need dr. Phil. Have you ever been stalked? And i don’t mean a period of 1 year or less, or mostly online stalking behavior. I’m talking about literally having their ear to your door, following your friends and family home just so they can wait you up there to let you know they always have eyes on all aspects of your life. I’m talking about vandalizing your property to trigger a response from you, checking your mailbox, waiting untill you finally drop your guard and don’t carry a camera anymore after 4 years just to start over again. Stalkers can keep going for decades if they aren’t interrupted. Stalkers never recover, they may opress their impulses with therapy and meds but the urge will always remain. You don’t recover from being a psychopath. Stalkers are sadists, enjoying to give their “prey” discomfort through their inappropriate presence. It’s a display of control over the subject. Stalkers are ok with bestowing mental illness on their prey. A stalker is the same level of foul being as a pedofile, showing them compassion only encourages them to proceed. The only thing that stops a stalker is public exposure; only the fear of humiliation and getting reprimanded with restricting consequences is efficient. And even then, they may just switch subject and start again. When the victim is the solution rather than the persecutor.. That is not a real stalker and that “victim” has not been stalked enough yet.

Although I agree Dr. Phil is a fool and exploitative you are COMPLETELY wrong about that episode. Almost everything you said was a lie or exaggerated. I watched that episode and she was not being beaten whatsoever. Dr. Phil did not berate her either. Her parents did take her condoms and that was stupid which Phil told them. The girl lied about being pregnant for control. She stole her mom's car and damaged it, she was lying and stealing, using drugs, sneaking out etc. Although I disagree with going to Dr. Phil for help they just wanted what was best for her. From what I could see she was a beautiful young girl who had started on the wrong path and just needed proper guidance.

Back when I was first starting middle school I was on Adderall, which caused me harm because for some reason I started making bleeps outta nowhere, and it caused everyone in my class to hate me. Then I was the loner no one even talked to me, and on top of that I was messed with multiple times even to a point of lying about a list just to let them stop while I was suspended. As well as all that my therapist never helped because once I brought up that I got a dog he never shut up about it. Then now as I'm about to start high school at 15 to 16 my new therapist that I got when I started 8th grade had me on a medication that would and I quote "helps with sadness, and anger". But I made everything worse so I personally stopped taking, and my mother was okay with it because at least I tried it. But she, my therapist asked me every time I talked with her "how's the medication doing is it helping with your sadness, and anger?". I still find this question funny because she never noticed I stopped taking it, and she said that my sadness, and anger was being help by a medication I wasn't taking. And I've told myself this "I swear if I see the people who caused me to become a loner, and have social issues. I will personally do what I have should've done when it started". My mom, and dad always said this to me. "Don't start the fight, finish it".

I have mixed feelings about this one. Men and women are not the same physically. The amount of damage a man twice my size can easily do to me compared to what I could do to him is significantly different. On the other hand as a women I know it's not only wrong but a dumb idea to hit a man. Why provoke that situation in the first place? But honestly this is like if I beat up a little person. Could they have hit me first? Yeah, but is it now okay for me to fight them? In some instances it makes more sense to walk away. If you can solve the problem without violence you should.

I got ECT for being misdiagnosed with bipolar when psych meds and domestic abuse were actually what was making me sick. Oh- I ended up brought to an ER with catatonia from the ECT, too. Then my abuser used me being in that state to get me pregnant to trap me with him- yes, I could not consent so he is my rapist- and now and dealing with family courts to divorce him and try to protect my child.

What he did to that woman is horrifying. I experienced CSA from 6-7, and it was a "milder" case as far as CSA goes. If someone asked me that I would become extremely upset, and struggle to answer. So I can only imagine the emotions she was going through. Forcing her to relive that in front of an audience then getting pissy when she has a negative reaction to that is vile. Completely braindead to anyone with even a basic education in psychology and trauma, too.

I remember clips of that episode. I believe they even made her make the introductory videos sitting in a chair in a basement? And at some point during the show he promised her “wholesomely” that he wasn’t going to sell her back to her abusers and everyone clapped?!!! Good to know that that’s where his bar is. This also reminds me of a person with DID who came on the show. First question he asked, of course, was: What was your trauma? Obviously only did it to make her/them switch right away. I struggle with depression, and I find that actively practicing gratitude and doing what I can for others (most commonly my wife) takes the edge off pretty well. I also started learning to laugh at things I can't control. If it's laugh or cry, I choose laugh - it helps a bit.

Not depression. Edit: I should clarify what I meant by this because I realize it did not come off the way I intended. I didn’t mean to say that OCD is something you can just push through, and by “facing your fears,” I didn’t mean it in the way the other commenter was saying it. I was referring to exposure therapy, which is a really effective form of treatment for OCD and certain other anxiety disorders. I used to be friends with a woman who was an abuser - not just to her partners either. I caught her sleeping with a guy I was dating, in my bed, while I made them breakfast. She tried to get two of her ex's locked up under false charges, and she would emotionally and physically abuse them. I'll never talk to her again, she's one of the worst people I've ever met. Both of them were at fault- he was physically abusing her back, which there is no excuse for. He also obviously has his own rage problem. I saw that episode and it was completely misrepresented in this video. Phil also never said anything about the guy not being a victim of DA. He simply said “don’t hit her back, walk away” which is perfectly sound advice.

I just thought I'd drop in here to say that "just walk away" is not great advice in cases of domestic violence. I was a victim of abuse and domestic violence for years at the hands of my own family member and was consistently told it was my responsibility to be the bigger person, to just walk away, and to move on. When it comes to violent behavior and aggressive assault it only escalates, especially if the abuser isn't getting the reaction they want from you. In my case I endeavored not to fight back, I made myself as small as possible, I spent all of my time locked away in my room in the dark hoping they would lose interest or think I wasn't home but it didn't stop. They would come into my space and bring the violence to me. When I tried to "walk away" they qould hold me back so they could abuse me more. It continued to escalate until I turned 15 and this family member attempted to murder me in our kitchen. The only reason I survived was because I got lucky enough that my sister was there and jumped in to save me. Walking away from an aggressive abuser sounds great until you're actually living in an abusive situation. Anyone who says otherwise is privileged enough not to know the horror of domestic abuse.

Actually, if a woman were to hit me when she's mad, i would have done the Johnny Depp: turning around and walking away. Then go to the police with the bruises, and sue the shit out of her. When someone is violent with you, the superior thing is responding with non-violence but with the fire of the law. When you become an adult, the most important thing that is taken from you is the ability to be violent ( within reason, I mean teenage scuffles mostly ) without much consequences. Thus, a true adult reacts by using reason ( and law ) to resolve controversies, not violence; because the moment YOU use violence, you are accountable , not forgiven and your voice won't be heard.

It would be a wonderful way of addressing the long term impacts of this kind of cruelty, and also be very educational and hopefully supportive of them getting healthy coping mechanisms, internal and external

One of the things that’s helped me the most with being gaslit by family is to remember that their attitudes are not normal. Keeping in mind that my chosen family and most trusted loved ones’ attitudes towards my hurt is the actual way that is normal to respond to and empathize with depression, and the more likely response from people than the way your family acts - it helps a lot. Even if other people don’t understand, remember that there’s a whole world out there of people who *care,* who won’t jump to conclusions and accusations, and who will *strive* to see you as you really are - a lovely person who’s feeling broken right now by a dooming sense of hopelessness. That way of describing you[rself] is also a helpful coping mechanism I use. When you think of yourself like I described, “A _________, ________, and _________ person [insert positive attributes about your core personality] who’s been plagued lately (or for a long time) by depression,” instead of describing yourself as depressed, you subtly but significantly reinforce the helpful idea that depression isn’t inherent in your way of living or in your personality. It is a cruel and dysfunctional sense of overwhelm and grief that you’re entitled to address and receive compassionate, well researched, and adequate healthcare for. Over time, if you use the phrase in quotes with positive attributes filled in the blanks, you’ll reinforce in your mind and sense of personhood that depression is external and something you can address, rather than a central and unchangeable part of who you are. It can be a very helpful affect from small linguistic changes and an effort to use the language for affirmation. I hope these couple tips can be of use to you. You deserve to feel joy and peace and happiness. Depression is an ugly, impersonal and yet deeply personal and needlessly cruel creature. It hurts your personhood, so it’s very personal, but remembering it doesn’t discriminate- it’s just randomly cruel - can sometimes help. It’s like, the nature of its hold on your life, while difficult and bad for your well-being, is still random and non-discriminating. In that way it’s a neutral fact to acknowledge the depression, and sometimes just removing strong feelings from the foundation of the problem breaks the pillars that hold up the disease and it’s terrible effects. I hope you give yourself ample compassion and lots of love. I hope you always have safe and lovely people to confide in, and I hope most of all that you know how deeply important and loved you are, as well as the fact that you deserve to be well - depression free and self-confident.

I am so, so sorry for your friend. I hope he is able to heal and I also hope that his abuser hasn’t managed to harm and r*pe anyone else and I hope she suffers for the pain she’s caused. What’s so frustrating is that I can tell that Dr. Phil analysis of the abuse is so rooted in misogyny and out-dated gender norms. Considering the way he limited his wife to domestic chores and value through physical appearance, I’m not surprised that he also believes women are weak, and therefore incapable of abusing others, ESPECIALLY MEN. A lot of the time, I got confused when I saw men responding negatively towards a man telling the world about his abuse story in a heterosexual relationship because I expected male viewers to side with and sympathize with male victims due to relatability in terms of gender. But because of the internalization of gender norms, and the dumbass “man strong, woman weak” rhetoric, its normalized to question and even belittle male victims. My dad even teaches it to my little brother and its so fucking aggravating. When he was being sexually harassed at school, he didn’t even feel alright with telling my parents at first because he didn’t even think it was a legitimate concern.

I have never wanted to physically harm another person more in my life than I did watching this man. Anyone's trauma being laughed at, mocked, belittled, and minimised makes me sick to the stomach, but men are already in a position where they can't come forward with this stuff, and this just shows men what happens when they try to. I hope your friend is able to heal, and I really hope that society changes so that more men don't have to go through the same thing.

It's funny you say this--we have a friend of ours staying with us right now. His trash #&@$ of a wife has done some of the same things to him and he's in the middle of a divorce. She's taken out a restraining order (she's the one who's abused him), been verbally and physically abusive to him... the list is endless. That got thrown out in court as the (female) judge didn't buy a word of it. Money? She's financially abusive and has left him drained. She expects him to take the rap for illegal things she does (fortunately, the neighborhood is entirely acquainted with her antics and won't have it). We've already advised him that she's not to set foot on the property or we'll be taking out the restraining order. Absolutely. Fuck Dr. Phil.

Woah what your friend went through was harrowing to read. I’ve not experienced anything like that and I still got ptsd just from picturing the vile abuse that demon did to him. I really hope he can find a way to recover from that kind of trauma. Nobody deserves to experience that. A friend recently told me that he suffered abuse from a female partner and the abuse was made worse because his dad specifically taught him to never fight back if he’s struck by a woman and to not defend himself. I’m fortunate to not have been in that situation with a partner yet but if it did happen my instinct would be to self defend but to try and block and from there get her in an arm lock to restrain and then call the cops. Of course I know that anything that involves cops is risky unless you have video footage that shows her attacking. Because remorseless women will claim to have been hit even if it’s obvious they’re lying. That’s why the only fool proof way is to avoid them at all costs, if possible. She probably got very confused and just did not dare to argue, when they lie to your face like that, it's weird, nothing you would expect so she start doubting herself and her experience which is higly inappropiate to do to someone who asks for help because of past tr4um4, this event was just one more tr4um4 added to her to deal with and it gets harder to carry because you loose faith in people and you don't get the help you need so bad.

It was so clear she was just agreeing because she was using coping mechanisms from previous unsafe situations.

For real. I’ve tried to explain it to someone with that mentality using the analogy of a well: you can dig and dig and dig every time that well runs dry, but sooner or later, you hit the bedrock. After that point, you can keep whacking away with that shovel all you want: that well ain’t getting any deeper and you ain’t getting any more water from it. It’s infuriating to hear people with no idea what it’s like say “at some point you have to decide to dig down deep into yourself and tell yourself you’re not gonna listen to your thoughts.” You can’t dig where there’s no more dirt!

I’ve had eating problems for a years now, sometimes I go cold turkey and I won’t eat for days at a time… it’s something I’m still working on. But I remember one time my (now no longer) gym instructor was trying to give me a run down on how I should “just do it” because “you won’t gain weight over night”. That’s such a crazy concept I had no idea! He also wanted me to weigh every single day and write down everything I was eating even though I said it wasn’t comfortable with that. I’m an artist, it’s like me saying to someone who’s not familiar with painting “hey remake the Mona Lisa to the T” - it just won’t happen. Unless you’ve got magic fingers or years of training it’s very very unlikely. You know the craziest part? He was about 20/21 at the time.

Apparently poor Phil had an alcoholic father and was struggling on the streets when he left home. That’s why he has never had a drop of alcohol in his life. And look how far he made it after all of his trauma. So everyone should end up a multi millionaire like him because if he can get over it and excel in life so can anybody. Fr, both alcohol and xanax work on the gabaa receptors and thus he could have easily oversosed. I used to mix that shit in the peak of my xanax addiction (7 months sober now) and its such an indescribably intense feeling of both mental and physical numbness. It makes it very difficult to think because since they both work on gabaas it slows brain signals for just about everything

I'm in total agreement. My ex used to go on and on about how I "couldn't hurt him if you tried." And then, when he tried to break into my apartment to assault me, I stopped him with one punch to his nose. It took forever to get all his blood out of that apartment.

It'll probably sound weird, but i can respect a guy who will defend himself regardless of a persons gender. I'm a woman. Hit me and I'll hit back, and I believe that the reverse should also be able to be held true. There are far too many violent women out there who get away with abusing their children or significant other because "a woman would never do THAT". Its wrong for men to pretty much always be on the loosing end of custody battles, and its wrong for them to get vilified for defending themselves.

The problem is that if the man hits her the police will arrive and arrest him instead of her. The only option you have is pushing her away and reporting her to the police. Also it has to be investigated who started with the violence cycle in order to solve it, and the woman still wouldn't have to hit the man either, she should report him too. If a man punches a woman sadly the man has more strenght and would cause more damage on the woman's body if that happens, so it's better if both walk away before the violence begins.

Being thrown out into the world at 18 is such an U.S. thing. And honestly from what I've heard it's really only a thing here. I still live with my mom. I work to pay my way and set money aside to build my own house so I don't waste money paying rent for no reason. Besides the world is messed up and it's not always safe to live alone.

No one should be judged for living with parents or grandparents rather they are 22 or 42. With how the economy is right now in the U.S, more people in their 20's-30's are choosing to stay at home. Better to be with stable family members than on the streets. I still live at home. I got coworkers pass 18 who still live at home. It is the old boomer gen that is against it. My own 70 year old Godmother would rather I struggle on the streets with two or three jobs just because she had to do it. Mind you, she came from an emotionally abusive mother. My mother is more realistic, reasonable possibly due to being a 90's girl. Two different generations. It's only the U.S as far as I know that has this bias view. Countries like Asian countries encourage young adults to stay home.

If running away to de-escalate didn't help Depp, it most certainly wouldn't help this guy either. A sick double standard it is, how people are treated differently and expected to react differently in the same horrific situation all because of what's between their legs. But, if there's a small hope in this, since the whole trial, i have the hope that the world is slowly leaving that sort of thinking behind. We're changing, no longer like that audience in 2017. Maybe if they too knew and saw what we learned now, perhaps then they wouldn't jeer at his abuse. I agree women have agency. My most recent abuser was 6'3" Marine and I'm 5'7". I never raised my hands against him but he physically intimidated me purposefully all the time; the dynamic that he *knew* I could never physically overpower him like he could me was a huge reason he got away with a lot of what he did. Women and men *are* different. They can abuse each other but the reason it's urgent sometimes for women is because their physical agency is literally taken from them by a physically stronger human body.

Tbh, you can't even really call him a therapist anymore. He surrendered his license to practice in 2006. He's just a TV show host now. And it's really sad that's not a well-known fact because people are genuinely trying to come to him for help, and he's more concerned about being the sassy grandpa.

That reminds me of a man who was invited onto the show bc of his alcohol addiction. In an interview he said that the producers purposely placed a bottle of vodka in his dressing room, he drank it of course and was so messed up that they had to practically carry him out to Dr. Phil for the show.

My mother made a number of attempts on my life from age 4 up till I escaped from the entire family in 2010 at age 41. If Dr Phil had me on that show, and then had any of my family on, and tried turning the subject against me, I would have lost if and knocked him off his pedestal. I would gladly take the charges. I lived with a Narcissistic brother and father plus a bipolar psychopathic mother. She blamed me for stuffing up her life, because she couldn't keep her legs closed. BTW I'm high functioning autistic. We have all been clinically diagnosed, and the only normal one in the family is my youngest brother. My mother even attacked a few of my gfs, and one of those days made the statement (verbatim) "I can't F--king wait for you to have F--king kids, so I can fking fk their lives up the way you F--ked up mine". I've been told I should go and say sorry for being a burden on her life, by people that have been told about my broken ribs at age 4 up to the last time she got drunk at my place during Xmas 2009, and tried chocking me once again. Apparently all this abuse is my fault because I deserve it. I'll shed no tears when my family dies. I've only been safe since I disappeared in 2010, and police have my disappearance as voluntary and deliberate, so I am not to be tracked, traced nor contacted under any circumstances including deaths in the family.

Did you watch the episode? The mom was not toxic, she was just telling the truth about the girls stalking and delusions and the girl didn't want to be confronted. She was criminally stalking Jazz, that girl had no right to control anything about the show. People see clips and talk shit without watching the show. It's funny they all make the same comments.

It's not just rasonable to not want that, to do that is also unethical and, frankly, disgusting if you're doing it on purpose. Its because many therapist make a living off their job. If you're codependent, then youre reliant on them validating your existence. That’s not true- he doesn’t just put them on the show. He pays for counseling after the show in most cases and you can’t say that his method doesn’t help anyone, but that’s also untrue. I don’t love him as a person and I think he has said some troubling things, but this video is stretching things to make them look worse than they were. I used to watch this show, and he never just sent people away without securing a ongoing treatment when needed

But watching his reactions to the ranch business made me loose those fan-tainted glasses and re-examine the show, and there were some big red flags I should’ve acknowledged. Any business that deals with people at a disadvantage, and where one can assert control are at risk for exploitation and abuse. But responding to the accusations by denying, blaming the victims or coming up with counter-accusations are so telling. Instead of trying to look into it, he went in defence/attack mode. That tells me he really didn’t care shit about the teens and young kids that he had “promised to help”.

My gen-x dad always on me and comparing him coming to this country poor versus where I’m at rn. I just so happen to JUST become a TRUE adult (21) at the worst time. You must he saving TONS of money living at home at 27 right?
