Let's take a look at the Osprey Aether 70 AG, the pack I used on my first several hundred miles hiking along the Appalachian Trail in 2021.
Here I give a detailed feature breakdown, a few Pros and Cons, and why I think that this is still a great option for backpacking and camping.

I have this pack. It’s a great pack with plenty of room for what you need. Very comfortable and easy to get into.

I carry the closest equivalent that is available right now - the Ariel (women 's fit)/ Aether (men's fit) Plus 70. The backpack comes with a rain cover - I think I saw the pocket for it on your pack, too, below the lower pocket where you said you carried your tent, though you didn't mention it. The rain cover is bright green with reflective tape - which makes me visible when I have to walk along a road in the evening.

It's nice to see some "chonkier" hikers like myself. :) I'm 6ft and sitting at 270lbs right now and I got into hiking to lose weight and spend some time away from technology. :D

Haha you don't have to be a a fitness guru, runner, or a model to get outside and enjoy the trails. They're out there waiting for anyone to have a good time!

Thanks for the details. I just ordered this pack a couple days ago after tons of research. The brain pack was a must for me. My other two backpacking packs are about the same weight so not surprised. Actually less weight than I would expect. Can’t wait to use it. Btw, that’s a hell of a deal you got. Prices are around 360 now. I actually ordered the Aether 70 AG “Plus” model. Not sure what the difference is with the “Plus” but the one your showing appears to be the same. Anyway, great job on the video. You “packed” a lot of info into 19.5 minutes. I’m curious what pack you ended up upgrading to since the Aether is a hell of a nice pack. How much weight difference is your new pack? Thanks

I upgraded to a couple of Hyperlite Mountain Gear packs for my backpacking duties. I still keep the Aether around for when I know I'm going to be carrying heavier loads when I want to be extra comfortable on a weekend camping trip, because it tends to carry weight better than any ultralight pack I've tried. But, in terms of weight, the new packs (Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 4400 and Junction/Windrider 3400) weigh nearly five pounds less when they're empty.

I switched to a Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 4400, and I did a review of that pack in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oLbUE4lUcYE.html I also picked up a Hyperlite Junction 3400, which I'll be doing a video on in the next few days.
