Filleting isn't easy, and filleting a fat., slimy, round trout is the worst. Well we at DFI would like to show how we do it in the hopes that it will help you. Let us know how useful you find it!
Great video. My mouth is watering. I've always just baked the fish and pulled the spine/ribs right out in one piece. But then, I've never had the chance to back country fish. Sounds amazing.
Incredible technique... i tried it many times and adopted it since i saw this video... bémol; with bigger individuals it becomes a plus to know this way to filet but i feel there are easier ways even with a good rapala... but; thank you for the great pedagogy; so easy to learn that way! enjoyed and still do when i see it...
I live up in the higher elevation Sierra nevada mountains not a hatchery or any stocking being done. Point being wild trout have white meat. Steelhead and salmon have more of a pinkish/orange meat. Sometimes people think they've caught a trout but really it's a young steelhead which would have more color to the meat. Nice catch good size trout and also great filleting technique!!
ok sweet so its the same as filleting a bluegill..nice..i always wondered about filleting a trout..i would always cook them whole....gunna hafta try this
I like to leave the skin and head on. These types of fish have very little bones my parents are used too back in their homeland, I find it sort of amazing the length people will go to remove them. still a very nice video!
Id suggest going to a grocery store and purchasing a few fish and practice the technique at home. I followed the youtube videos and saw quite a few techniques and when I got to the kitchen I was over-bombarded with styles. I wound up making perfect pieces for a fish stew..... so back to the store for me ;)
Thank you for your video! This is probably the easiest tutorial to fillet the fish. My question is when did you take out the guts, and how did you do that?
+Avi933Man thanks for the compliment on the video, I would take the guts out as soon as possible. We have another tutorial on how to take the guts out. Here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hGH9TJOUojc.html. Enjoy!
+Jacqueline Swafford Sorry for not responding about the question, here is the link on how to take the guts out, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hGH9TJOUojc.html, thanks!
When you fillet a fish, is there any commonly edible meat left on the fish that would be wasted if the fish carcass is thrown away after getting the two fillets off the fish?
If you are putting that much pressure to have the knife fly back and hit you in your man jewels, your knife is probably super dull and you don't know what your doing in the first place.
why is it necessary to remove belly meat? I've been kind of wingin it for a few years and I always eat that. ...then I realized that youtube has these videos.
909beats if there is any toxins in the fish from bio-accumulation it will mostly be in the belly meat or the fat (which is also mostly at the belly as well) but you also have a liver so I wouldn’t worry about it.
LMAO!!!! are you kiddin me ??? bears hate the smell of fish??? I tell you what you come up on Redlake Reservation in northern minnesota right around 5 pm and you will see bears every place they dump the garbage fish from the lake after taking them outta the nets every day I dont know if I believe that about them not being able to stand the smell of fish either that or we have an all out different breed of bear lol (to which we are limited to just the small black bear)
+Roy Rogers great comment i am scared shitless in grizzlie country. however we dont see the two onlookers with shotguns loaded with dbl00 buckshot!!! lol
If I didn't fillet and eat what I caught I wouldn't fish. There is absolutely nothing wrong with utilizing a natural renewable resource. No apologies necessary.
