Today we're fixing up my old cabin door and adding a whole new anchor and chain system with the possibility of a windlass in the future! It was a lot of hard work but totally worth it. Everything we've done just makes the boat better in the future!

You remind me so much of myself in my 20s and 30s working on boats. How many times have I been in a chain locker? The many times I had to crawl into tight spaces to work on engines. What satisfaction it is to learn as you go. I envy you young man. I miss those days.

Great projects and they look great! If you have a small shop vac, you can hook that to the sander and eliminate 95% of your dust. Great job!

Hey man, great project, you should also have the chain connected to the boat via a rope so in emergency situation you can let go of the anchor wih a knife 👍

I am really enjoying your channel, Cullen. Good to see you back on the horse. The bolt you removed from the pulpit for the anchor'r roller is a carriage bolt. The square shaft stops the bolt from rotating while you tighten the nut. This means you will have a much lower, domed head of the bolt in the roller, which is ideal for this apoplication. I would have sealed the insides of the hole you jigsawed for the roller.
@CullenCraft
@CullenCraft 2 года назад
Yes I'm not quite finished with that hole. That will be epoxy'ed and covered with some kind of decorative wood trim
@hotrodhog2170
@hotrodhog2170 2 года назад
Well gladto see you back Cullen! When using your anchor, you should attach a line called a Snubber or Bridle. Takes the stress of the pulpit and if it it stretches a bit will act as a shock absorber for when waves hit you boat. In the future if you have to plug screw holes, don't drill but just some glue and golf tees work perfectly. Glue in place and with a knife or whatever, cut the head off and done! See you in the next one friend.

I've always used multiple coats of marine Spar Varnish on mahogany. When you put about 5-6 coats on to make it look like glass, then as it ages from the weather all you need to do is give it a light sanding and then recoat. And yes, you should have never ever sanded that in the main cabin. I would varnish it in the main cabin to keep the bugs off it but never sand, in fact I would of used paint and varnish remover on it to get most of it off before I gave it a light sanding

@@CullenCraft I should also have said, After the 4th coat, wet sand very lightly with 600 grit wet/dry black oxide paper, then wipe with plain water and then use a tack rag when dry before each new coat. For wet sanding I use an old Dawn dishwasher soap bottle with the pop-up squirt cap. Filled with water and add a few drops of Dawn soap.

I’ve caught up watching all of your Chris Craft videos, and I am glad I found your channel. You are comfortable in front of the camera, and you show all the aspects of your project, not just the best of. I am interested in maybe someday fixing up a vessel similar to yours, and using is as a destination for the family, and someday some exploring. I’ve used RU-vid to help restore a 22’ sailboat and a 13’ whaler…maybe the whaler will be our dingy some day. A couple questions please, I do not expect a response if you feel it be inappropriate to ask. 1. If you did it all over again, would you negotiate a lower purchase price based on the engine work you performed? Did you have an idea on the engine condition at purchase? 2. Do all Corinthians have a dual helm? There is one on market place in VT near Lake Champlain and no pics of the helm(s). 3. While I enjoy the fact you are not asking for money or sponsors, would you ever consider setting something up so someone could contribute to your adventure? Looking forward to your next video release. Thank you, Kris, Pennsylvania
@CullenCraft
@CullenCraft 2 года назад
Hi! I'm so sorry it took a few weeks to respond You've got some super exciting projects under your belt! I'm sure you can tackle anything you set your mind to at this point. 1: yeah I was naive and didn't see the red flags about the engines. But it did pan out in the end with a fairly good deal. A little negotiating and a lot of elbow grease. 2: I've only ever seen Corinthians with 2 helms. That was their main selling point. If the seller is being dodgy about that, I'd be suspicious. 3: I've thought about crowd funding but I don't think right now is the right time. I'm gonna wait until that sits well in my brain.

It’s probably too late now but with all that sawdust you made while sanding inside your cabin (bet you will never do that again) you should check to make sure your bilge pumps are not clogged from the sawdust. You should maybe consider telling your viewers ahead of time what boat projects you will be working on in the future. We Monday morning quarterbacks could then give you our suggests before you start the project and who knows, we may even be able to provide some useable advice on occasion.

It's fine. I haven't worn it in 3 years or so, just not my style anymore too heavy and gets in the way of wrist movement. The battery life is absolute crap, needs a replacement every 6 months or so in normal use. So I just have it in a drawer with a dead battery. I'll probably list it on eBay soon
