Or the state should at least pay for therapy for these children so they learn how to cope in a way that’s healthy and won’t mess up their life and future relationships. The damage from this will always be there but if the state takes at least a little bit of responsibility then it won’t be on going damage and that’s the least they could do since they allowed this to happen.

Unfortunately, it's like that in most developed nations. Allowing services that protect children to degrade to breaking point always has the same result - frontline workers who are unprepared for their difficult work, and thus avoid cases which are in any way complex or dangerous to _them._ They'd rather hassle a family whose child is missing school due to illness, or "have a chat" with parents who _they_ feel aren't respecting their 3 year-old's gender identity. It's so sad, because it's a _stereotype_ that actually holds true for so many of these departments and their employees. They stress and tear apart happy households over insignificant infractions, whilst children are suffering horrendous abuse as _their_ case files sit unattended in the "too hard" basket. More funding, better management, _appropriately_ educated and experienced frontline workers, independent oversight and _far_ greater public transparency, are required. Without scrutiny, nothing will change.

Look up Takota Collins. That is proof that they don't intervene even when the child is experiencing extreme abuse. I actually knew him. I didn't see the abuse or realize what was happening but I know both of my cousins reported the abuse that they noticed and 2 other members of the family did as well. His birth mother and grandma (and uncle I think) did and the school reported him 17 times!

Starting with politicians and the government right? Because we all know child services doesn't get enough funding and they don't enforce children's rights like they do with adults. The CPS system is broken, and we never hear politicans actually campaining for children's rights.

@@remoir6273 FYI in Arizona this Dept was called CPS for years. Approx 2012 (?) it was officially changed to DCS. I worked for an organization that had to deal with them on a daily basis. So, it’s the same Dept whatever initials are on it. I would tend to put these initials on it: CRAP!

@@patbaisey5774 I'm a victim of CPS botched cases, spent a whole week in the hospital for injuries and placed in the same household months later. I still carry emotional trauma but otherwise turned out ok. I feel for these kids. My heart breaks for them.

Getting paid to abuse kids

Because school & real life job are drastically different w/ the same DCF issues in EVERY STATE. Too many cases for one person, too little training to deal with serious cases, too little resources. Many child protection services outsource cases to private agencies and barely follow up on them.

Most don't go to be a "social worker". They get a psychology degree, thinking they'll be working at a private practice or something and just end up as an underpaid, overloaded social worker that is pissed off, because they went into debt to be working at a job they hate. Social work is screwed up, the whole system. I'm sure there are caring ones out there, but it seems like this type of thing is happening far more often than it should!

The fact that after hearing these stories the DCS people's first instinct is that the child is lying baffles me. The mind. It boggles.

People did hear them this time. Mandated reporters did their jobs and took the statements to the system that is supposed to investigate the situation. They tried, she was given days to clean and make things look good. What about her adult children? Why didn't they speak up, or was the money too good to pass on?

So glad you were brave. Many children are scared to get their parents in trouble. That took a lot of strength for you to save both you and your sister.

Supervisors will also tell social workers to just close a case, not to remove kids etc. It's twisted af!! Infected from the top to the bottom.

@@carolmk3114 I think if lawmakers got both the bad foster parents' profit motive and the agencies' ridiculous degree of power without accountability, out of the picture, then good people who actually care, would be more willing to take in needy children. I have heard good people say that they wouldn't consider fostering because of the risk of letting some bureaucrat with a loose screw have potential to mess up their lives.

They deserve it but I doubt it will happen. I hate CPS they are an agency that always fails. They always target good parents for dumb reasons (who might just be poor and therefore less able to defend themselves and less aware of their rights) and they ignore real cases of abuse. They put kids into foster homes with monstrosities like that woman. Cps should be done away with altogether. If there is a case of child abuse then people could call the police. It seems like that would be more effective anyway. Social workers are ineffective and just dumb for the most part.

This was such a missed opportunity. I can hear these kids brave attempts to seek help, and its sad to hear that it took so long. I am aware of a case like this in Chicago. Heartbreaking.

Yep! Arizona's public system is busted. Police, schools, DCS, DA (disbarred) DOJ. Its been a corrupted good ol boy State for far too long. Arpiao ran the PD into the ground and helped bankrupt the county with lawsuit after lawsuit against Maricopa County police. This is why voting matters locally. Arpiao wouldn't have lasted 4 years in my county - we arrested our last sheriff for deleting texts on his phone which is tampering with evidence.

It wasn't a mistake, indeed. DCS and the police don't care about children, or really anyone else.

I’m a nurse, my agency had a contract with dcf....the shitiest parents got so much aid so much assistance they didn’t even raise their own kids dcf paid staff to come in and do it for them, total trash, then the flip side good decent people struggling needed a little help a little guidance and their constantly threatened, belittled and humiliated just have their children removed. It’s disgusting and shameful!! It’s the reason I quit that company it disgusted me we encouraged trash to be trash while punishing good people!!!

Just a few years ago, two news anchors got their baby taken for 2 days after it "accidentally" consumed cocaine. My sister had DCS at her house last year bc she sent her 7year old son to school in boots.... the school said it was child endangerment bc its "not safe" for kids to play in boots.... but its safe for a grown man to work in them??? They took all 4 of her kids out of class and questioned them and traumatized them, her oldest son (12) who is an honor student and has recieved recognition from their governor kept telling DCS how great their mom is and they kept telling him she was abusive! It was a 3month process and straight harassment all bc a child wore boots to school IN THE SOUTH!!!! THEY LIVE IN ALABAMA!!!! lol I don't trust DCS at all.

Process cps seems like more of a danger than actual help to children They seem to never do their job right and. Go after people who are goos parents yet when there is clear abuse they do nothing. @@happyd1479 it's unreal how fast they take kids without any actual evidence. In high school my family moved to lake county ca and literally 70% of the kids were in foster care and they were being SO ABUSED in every sense of the word. Starved, beaten, belittled, threatened and so much more, and they would all tell me their parents were good people and they were ripped away in the middle of the night by cps. Most didn't see their parents until they were 18 or they ran away back to their parents houses. It was heartbreaking. I was severely beaten as a young child and my teachers knew it and nothing was done. My best friend came to school with a broken arm (not in a cast) and black eye in 3rd grade and cps was never called. If only they would actually do their jobs and protect those in actual need!

How much money was she also making as a foster parent from the state? This woman must have been rolling in money! Disgusting! The money wasn’t being used on the children as it should have been! This is just one of the stories that’s out there.

See something (even think something is going on), say something and if it's not investigated properly, go up the chain till something happens to either stop the neglect/abuse and bring justice or enough is found to positively show no neglect/abuse is going on.

Maybe the olden days type of orphanages that are inspected by accountable public servants and open to public scrutiny aren't such a bad idea. Get rid of cps/dcs completely. Let desperate parents leave their kids in public care homes, any time for any reason, and let them get their kids back when they straighten up their issues. Or give a time limit then let the kids be adopted. Get the profit motive out of child services. Or there will never be a solution. Jmo

I have had several friends who were raised in orphanages during the depression era, both Catholic and Baptist care homes. I speak from knowing detailed accounts of their experiences, good and bad. It wasn't as good as a loving family home, but it was obviously better than what's been going on in the foster care system in recent years. Would you rather be a child raised in a boarding school setting, with the same adults who care for you throughout your entire childhood, and a miniscule chance of abuse (which did happen but only rarely), or be yanked around carrying all your possessions in a garbage bag, from one stranger's home to another, with no advance notice and a 1 in 4 chance of being abused? Going around trying to find fault in others' perspectives is something any moron can do, but thinking of solutions is more of a challenge. How do you propose that the current corrupt system be improved?

I'm so sorry you had to go through that my heart breaks anytime I hear things like this. I feel blessed to have a mother who took care of and loved all the children that came into our home and I hope that I can become a foster parent someday soon because these babies deserve all the love they haven't been given.
