The crazy thing is, this is probably way more common than we think, because we rarely ask questions when someone elderly or sick dies.

@Sky-ki4xt
@Sky-ki4xt 6 лет назад
Noslo this happens in all care homes and hospitals the World over. There should be autopsies done on every single person that dies and especially in care homes and hospitals. Health care workers should also have to do a drugs test every month or so, even less, after all they literally have our life in their hands. Those who leave everything in God's hand, will eventually see God's hand in everything! Make you're elderly family feel wanted and not rejected. No need to abandon them when they are vulnerable and need ye the most. R.I.P to all victims of care home abuse xx God will deliver true justice in the end

I live in the US. I have been a registered nurse for 40 years (I am 62). There are good nurses and their are bad nurses. Just like in every profession. But in my profession we have the responsibility of caring for the sick and dying and for advocating for our patients. In the years that I have been in this profession, overwhelmingly, that has been the case. As nurses we often feel that we are the voice for the patients and their families when they cannot, for what ever reason, speak for themselves. We must be their voice. In my years I have fired nurses for failing to live up to the high standards that I expected of them. I wanted my departments to provide excellent care, not just good care. I wanted my staff to be well trained. I wanted them to take pride in their jobs. And they did. We had few patient complaints, very low rates of complications, and an excellent reputation within the community. Each year polls show that nurses are still one of the most trusted professions. So when I see something like this, I am deeply offended. Because it reflects very poorly on the profession. Long term care (nursing homes) can be a problem. Low pay, long hours, no training. In the past women did not work outside the home. When a family member became ill they stayed at home and a family member, usually the female in the home, cared for that person. Now with families requiring a two person income, most cannot keep relatives at home. And home care is VERY expensive and is not usually covered well by medicare/ medicaid. So what are the options? As a society we have to decide where our priorities are. The elderly and sick are viewed as disposable. They don't matter. Someone has to advocate for them.
@catherinehpn3613
@catherinehpn3613 7 лет назад
Teresa D Kirse Well said, this documentary seemed to be an open invitation to attack the character of all nurses. Nobody chooses to become a nurse for status or money. In general we choose to become nurses because we genuinely care about others and that empathy leads us to our chosen profession. It's an unenviable choice of how to best care for our elders. Unfortunately the more money you have the more options you have. (24 hour home care, expensive quality assisted living care etc. ). Often people in nursing homes have no remaining family or their families are scattered, unable to help. As a society we've neglected instead of revered our elderly. As nurses we advocate and respect patient rights. This woman is a sociopath pretending to be a caregiver. Sociopaths are certainly not exclusively health care professionals.

Teresa D Kirse I was in the E.R once when my friends appendix had to be removed and holy crap are people so disrespectful to nurses!! I was just sitting there in disbelief!! Name calling, abusive language! We get it! you're in pain! but these are the people who are trying to help you! Man good for you guys. I could never do that job. Don't know how people have the emotional and mental tenacity to deal with all that AND then the endless hours

Teresa D Kirse , Well said indeed. I've been an RN over 30 years. The public tends to remember only the bad stand-outs, as we tend to remember the crummy patients. I've always strived to treat them all the same. With compassion and kindness. I think this nurse had some mental issues that should've been picked up on long before she came clean to the cops. She'd told many friends over the years what was going on. (I watched her confession tapes) It's a sad story all the way around.

Teresa D Kirse Thank you for being such a good person, and for being such a good nurse. Thank you for devoting your life to such a profession. Unfortunately, I haven't had too many good experiences with nurses. That said, the few good experiences I did have restrained any negative judgement I may have otherwise passed on your career field. Anyways, my point is that it seems like it is one or another with nurses- they're either great, or just awful. Why do you think that is? Or is that just an assumption of mine?

Typical of sociopaths. My sister was literally able to convince people that SHE was somehow to take the credit for MY hard work and ethics, and hang her garbage on ME. My sister has that same appeal, even though it's subterfuge, masking 'nervous' energy as 'enthusiasm' and professional confidence, as opposed to the meth she was snorting or smoking, or whatever people do with it. This way SHE controls the narrative.

The worth and dignity of a soul is measured by what it delights in! And delight/happiness is our highest desire. Men have killed to have it. Kings have gone mad trying to find it. Wars have served it. Affairs have worshiped it. We all seek it. Sadly, billions have died without discovering its secret... namely, that joy is not an it, but a He. The Gospel is the good news that sinners can delight in a Holy God. It's the good news that all of our deepest desires are satisfied in the ONE who sent His Son to bring us to Him. God is so valuable and so satisfying that the most loving thing he could do for us is to make Himself gloriously indispensable. He is the only being in the universe for whom self-exaltation is the highest virtue. Therefore, God's commitment to be glorified and our goal to be satisfied are not at odds but come to simultaneous consumation in the worship of His Son... who took upon Himself the Wrath that God had towards us in our sinful disregard of Him. A wrath that could never be appeased through man-made religion. Jesus didn't die to turn the world into a paradise, he died so that we could stop seeking paradise in the world... Temporal things such as beauty, popularity, money, sex, racial identity, gender reassignment... can never truly satisfy. BECAUSE WE WERE MADE FOR SO MUCH MORE! We were made to gaze intently into the Eternal Beauty of a majestic King, Father, and God... meet Jesus the Christ. Life is hard, God is good, Glory is coming 😊... Thanks for taking the time to read this comment. May God bless you with all things necessary for life and goodness. God Bless!

It's fascinating to me how the fifth estate is shining such a positive light on the intentions and environment of care homes. They are brutally under staffed, and the caregivers they employ are severely over worked and under paid, all while getting physically and emotionally abused by the people they're caring for and the ones they work for. Care homes run these ways are a breading ground for abuse and neglect. You got a real good glimpse of the truth about care homes during covid.

I too look after my mother now but I feel the tone of the above comments to be a little judgemental. Caring for an elderly parent with dementia is a different level of caring altogether. Sometimes, as you’re not a qualified nurse you can’t keep your parent safe. For example, if your children or their friends leave a door open when playing your relative will just wander off and get lost, walk into a road whatever. There are so many different layers to a healthy family life. Having seen my mother care for my grandmother at our family home I wouldn’t want my children’s health and happiness to be jeopardise like it was sometimes for us. My mother was incredible, such a wonderful daughter, mother and wife but she was utterly exhausted and cut off from parts of normal life. It was twenty four hours a day. My grandmother, had she been able to comprehend the situation would never have wanted that for her daughter. The reality is that sometimes a parent with dementia can be aggressive, selfish and reckless. Aspects of behaviour are not conducive to a healthy family life. Like turning on the gas constantly. Good parenting is about finding the best solution for everyone. So don’t judge. Most people want the best for their parents. In an ideal world we’d all be able to care for our parents in their old age. But for those who can’t, don’t make a painful decision more painful than it already is. I know my mother felt trapped at times as she felt such an enormous sense of duty to her parents. At times I worried that it was at the expense of her life.

As a RN I couldn't imagine doing something like this. I also worked night shift at a nursing home several years ago with only myself, another LPN, and a handful of CNAs for the whole facility. I can see how she got away with these crimes for as long as she did. Most people in nursing homes have DNR directives because of their age and medical conditions, plus with no real supervision, access to the drugs, patients' families aren't always there, and no autopsies, yeah its relatively easy to commit a murder I would think. There's no way those deaths were accidental due to her being high on drugs, she had to have planned it. I couldn't say what her motive was but I think she must have enjoyed killing for her to have done it that many times. Nursing homes everywhere aren't near as regulated as they need to be. The people who have to go to them are completely dependent on their care and they deserve better care than what they get. Lord help me if I ever end up in one.

In this, as well as in other true crime shows' comment sections there are a lot of people commenting on the looks of the "bad person"...usually unkind words...and it sometimes makes me think that kind of words, that kind of mentality by people surrounding them, might have contributed to (and here I stress the word "some") of these people turning evil. People complain about cops, nurses etc etc but when they need one that's a whole different story. There are good and bad at any job and I shouldn't be surprised at the negative comments that generalize - these are comments from people who don't know any better and are ignorant. Don't judge until you've walked the walk and talk the talk. Also nurses aren't usually unhappy about nursing, they're frustrated at how misunderstood they are. Your job is to give all that you have of yourself daily emotionally and physically. Then when your shift is done you know that no one out there will understand your level of exhaustion. We know it's part of the job but nurses aren't robots - like all of you who comment and judge....were human and most of us carry a great level of compassion.

Michelle Romani "People complain about nurses, cops ect.. untill they are in need of one" I agree with you to an certain extent, but that statement was out of whack. I sort of agree, and I do hold respect for the profession, but you also have to understand it's not easy knowing that people like nurses and law enforcement have so much power over you and, more specifically, your life. You don't automatically think the worst of them but when you see people like this, it's easy to prejudge and distrust people in these professions when it's so easy for them to destroy or even take your life, many times without repercussions.

The neighbour and she herself told enough for me to roughly get it. So terribly sad not to get help, although I too have asked and worked very hard to get it, almost lost hope. Ppl don't kill others just like that, but a vicious cycle. Some compassion for her suffering , she came to NA too late,and the girl friends tale showed difficulty with relating closely. Haters here are not that much better. Justify hateful emotions against her, just as she justified the killings, by her emotions? Freedom and choice awaits those who dare and do see the shadow.

Claudia Bothner people like to believe evil things are solely to be blamed on the perpetrator- we don’t like thinking that each little name, insult and mock adds up on the recipients ego and contributed to the perpetrator’s mind set. She was born predisposed to do bad stuff and likely each person who ever called her a name , ostracized her..,played a role in what happened. Sometimes hundreds of people enable a killer to emerge.

The majority of nurses that I’ve worked with are always mad, juvenile and overworked. They liked the money of overtime, but didn’t like being there so much. I’ve seen it time and time again. Poorly ran nursing homes that are always short staffed, and the patients and cna’s suffer way more than the nurses....I am officially done with nursing homes!
