That's what my friend said. Told her that my interpretation is that Cree threw it away before digging him up so that he wouldn't have a reminder of Mollymauk, and that's why she was so hostile when the Nein tried to contact her. She doesn't want them taking him and making him into Molly again. I believe that he isn't Molly right now, but he can be made to remember and become Molly.
**Spoiler for campaign one** I just had the thought that if Molly wasn’t Molly when they found him and they had to fight him that it would be like fighting Orthax in Percy’s body but there wouldn’t be anyone to bring him back to their side and they would probably have to kill him and completely destroy the body to prevent this from happening again.
Taliesin totally knew. He knew. "And *attempt* to do a full casting of Decompose, and see what I get," followed by "*Something* will be here"? HE KNEW. THAT TRICKSY ELDRITCH MOTHER--.
Nah, he was leaving it open for Matt. I think he explained on Talks that it was his way of closing the book on the character for him but leaving it open for Matt.
Honestly I see why Matt end it early but man I would just love to see those raw reactions right after finding out being Discussed instead of having two weeks to digest.then coming back.
1:59 Liam: "Knowing how young Nott is, [...]" 2:10 Sam: *trying to hide a knowing smile while looking directly into the camera before shooting a glance at Matt*
@@TheDragonaf1 Oh! Well if you're watching this but are you I can see you don't mind spoilers. But if you really do, don't read on: Nott does consider herself the parent in the Caleb/Nott friendship, yes, and she is a mother herself. However, the revelation about her considering herself the parent in the Caleb/Nott friendship doesn't come out until somewhere between episodes 10 & 20, and her being an actual parent isn't revealed until much later. So when Caleb said, "Knowing how young Nott is," the group was still under the impression that Nott was a little girl in goblin years, when in fact she is already an adult woman. More than that, I will keep out of this so you're not completely spoilered. :)
@purplerains there are two episodes featured in this clip, the first one is way before C2 e111 because, a. molly just died and b. they weren't in the covid setup yet so caleb doesn't know about nott's secrets yet
I can hear it, that final scene. Veth digging in Molly's grave and not finding anything, Caleb joining her in a heated panic, Jester gets the crazy idea to Scry on his body, and she and the screen fades to white. White. Then, clouds. Winds. Snow. A hazy figure forms. Slowly, it resolves into the figure of a Lavender Tiefling. The camera sweeps in, closer and closer. As the view closes in on just his head, something makes him look aside, giving us his profile as the screen frames his lower face. Smirk. Cut to black. And that's how the Season ends Edit: Alternately, the ED music starts to pick up as Molly turns to face the camera, he smiles, then turns back and continues walking into the storm as the scrying fades back to white.
Can we acknowledge the fact that Caleb said "I'm going to hell anyway" as he helps try to uncover Molly's body? It's the little details like this that I like about The Mighty Nein and how different of a group they are from Vox Machina.
an actual cat I mean greater restoration might also restore Lucien. That’s if whatever causes him to lose his memory after being resurrected can even be cured that way. I’m not sure we are ever gonna get our Molly back. Probably a Lucien/Molly mix
whalwing25 now understand this is just theory at this point. But we have to also be prepared for this astral city to have possibly stolen his memories, making them not able to return by a healing spell because they aren’t forgotten or destroyed...just trapped outside his mind in that city
whalwing25 The real question is, how many layers deep does it go? Who’s to say that there wasn’t a personality before Lucian or more personalities before that. I think a greater restoration might not do anything aside from fry his brain.
2:30 I always thought if they ever revisit his grave there would be flowers and mushrooms everywhere, when jester saw nothing but mud, all my suspicions came true
@@cassiegreen1876 it's going to be the classic two minds in one body. When the mighty nein face him again there will be some in the struggle for who controls that body, I just know it will
@@red_breeze During Molly's life, there was never shown any mental struggle from Lucian. I honestly think that Molly is gone, his soul claimed by a God of chaotic good.
Its Molly, he likes to leave clues behind, especially if he heard what Jester and the group did in his grave. He probably knew then they would eventually come back to his grave.
Cad: ...in my profession we don't recommend this Nott: we'll take the upmost care. and who knows? he might not be there anymore. Cad: who knows? mr. krabs voice: who knows?? I think YOU KNOWS!!
This FREAKED ME OUT. What's going to hurt worse is everyone is going to have trouble dealing with it not being the same person, with trying to draw Molly back out.... And I don't think he's in there /to/ draw back out... But the best part of that whole sequence is the look of complete satisfaction on Taliesin's face that, despite dying, Molly is the cause of all of the emotional investment in the next arc. Which, honestly, good on Matt for building the campaign in such a way that dealing with a dead PC's backstory still can be worked into things. Very well done.
@@zepwolfx isn't getting the accent right mean getting Tailesin's accent instead of fantasy irish though? Also, who knows, maybe Lucien doesn't speak like that. He probably wouldn't as accent is an acquired thing. As Molly doesn't remember anything from past life he might have gotten it in his carny life.
lets be honest and I am gonna just throw this out there I love Caduceus but honestly they tied his story up together rather well and he is helping the group finish theirs, although mollymauk is back I do believe talesin can still play him and it will be up to him and matt to whether his story plays out as a rejoining it just is building up the whole thing cause we wont be getting anything new this week
@@kohakunushi3028 i think Mercer just went with #4 in order to cut down on all the speculation and memes about Sprinkle on the net. Considering some of the interactions previously...
on a different note the way Matt describes Jesters scrying spell with the green cloak forming around her it really makes me think Jester is becoming closer to the traveler and Artegon is becoming the servant of the god The Traveler. I would not be shocked if Jester is offered the position of The Traveler by the end of the game.
@@vil3on Molly could still be in there. Nothing's certain. It could be anything from "Molly is gone, only Nonagon is left" to "Every time he dies, he shifts. Lucien is in control now."
Unpopular opinion but I really hope that Molly as we knew him is gone and stays gone. His death had such a profound impact on the campaign as a whole and it has honestly been better for it. Learning to let go of past grief and moving forward became an ongoing theme with pretty much every character, and this is an interesting opportunity to see that all come full circle with the Nein being faced with someone who looks like their friend but isn’t and having to contend with that. Also, Tal has always seemed much more comfortable as Cadueces than he ever did as Molly. I get why people like the character, but for Tal just never seemed to fully inhabit that character. You can see the stark difference immediately when Cad comes in.
Same yeah I was hoping Mollymauk Tealeaf the one that TM9 remembers is no longer there and stays with them in spirit and that soul who gets the body is Lucien, Nonagon, or even a new personality. I'm glad the casts caught on to that so they're already prepared for it to be someone else... I think that would make more sense for Matt to DM too as he probably can do all the things he want as the controlling DM of the campaign.
I don't know much about Percy so I can only comment about what I saw of Molly and Cad. I felt Taliesin loved to play Molly and it was only his battle with the accent that kept him from fully embodying the character. Whereas he still has fun with Cad as we see when he drops those super surreal wisdom moments and playing the goofy forest person, he's not as in there or upfront as he was before but that might simply be due to the nature(haha) of Caduceus himself. Mollymauk Tealeaf is FUN. But, who can say whether or not he was more enjoyable for Taliesin than the man himself?
I'm so glad he's back tbh! He DID impact the campaign, but I feel like saying he should 'stay dead' is kind of an a sad opinion to have and a disservice to a fun character with a super interesting story. The characters have mourned him for 6 months, the critters and cast for more than two years! I think that's more than enough time to bring him back. The signs have always been there and Matt has been hinting and nudging for a while and I don't think it's cheap or takes away from the grief the characters felt in the slightest. It feels deserved, like a long lost friend finally coming home in the worst, most dramatic way (literally)! One of the earliest hints that Matt gave imo was the little comment he made as Cree waaaaay back around episode 31 or 32 where she mentioned she was having dreams about Lucien and 'saw him alone'. I am freaking ECSTATIC to see where this goes! Molly has always been my favorite since the very beginning and I'm soo happy I get to see him again in some way :)
Knowing Matt he won't do that. Instead, I would like to theorize that molly will be an obstacle for them. Both to overcome and to accept his passing. I like the idea of a perverted imitation of mollymauk, someone who the group will have a complex relationship with. He wears the face of their former friend but is entirely something different
@@destinimiller8886 Taliesin's first character is going to be a bad guy now probably. He came back from the dead, likely with a different personality. This is still speculation for now though.
Matt absolutely _feeds_ off these moments! Imagine how long he’s been sitting on that scene, how many tiny decisions and choices made by his players lead up to such a wonderful reveal. And one thing I really do appreciate about Matt is that they’re very rarely shocks, he earns his moments through excellent storytelling and god only knows how much hard work
LDS_ Link true, but I have a feeling since Cree most likely brought him back, she summoned Lucien back into the body. While if the m9 would have resurrected him, I think molly would have popped in. But I have no idea. I am excited either way. A whole new soul in this body suit would also be very interesting!
Matt included the option to become a "Hollow One" in the character creation options in Explorer's Guide to Wyldemount - whats the chances that Mollymauk was actually built with some variation of this in mind all along.
Zero. When asked if Taliesin had considered bringing Molly back as a Hollow One, he said, outright, no. He said that a Hollow One exists only because part of the departed's soul is desperately clinging to life and that Molly would never do that. He said that, as was his motto and creed, as long as he left this world better than it was when he entered it, Molly would fully accept death. And Matt agreed.
@@ForeverDegenerate I think Tal said he didn't want Molly to come back as a Lingering Soul, a class Matt made as a death alternative. The Hollow One is almost the opposite of that; a body without its soul. I do think Molly could very well have been a Hollow One at the start of the campaign since he woke up "empty". My theory is that Cree, being a cleric, revived him this time so he's back soul and all as Lucien.
I can imagine tha animation of them sigging the soft earth frightened. The fear they felt and with jester looking and automatically switching to her scry out of curiosity and engagement. The switch of the land moving away faster and switching geographically to the cold winds blowing and there is the red eyed, purple skinned friend trudging through the snow with a smile...and I can imagine him looking towards jester just for a moment and smirk......animators get on this.....NOW!!! And nico keep doing the dramatic feels love it
HE HAD A NOTE FROM CALEB TO MOLLYMOUK IN HIM, HE KNOWS AT LEAST HIS NAME. I don't know if this is important but it may clear some things for some people (ep.27 30:18)
Juli Pazos ...The note was ignored, the coat was left at the grave and Talisan was clearly really didn’t want to have to play him. Mercer has him now and he will be the BBEG...
Wait. Cree didn’t know he was dead/alive again when they went to Zedash after. Does that mean he dug himself out and went to like Shady Creeck Run THAT EARLY?! The second time he’s dug himself out of a grave...damn.
seven cats i am thinking crees blood magic has something to do with lucien/molly being able to rise from the grave twice now. Or their weird cult stuff? Who knows really! But I agree I think Cree is important and has a big role in all of it
It was more intense watching this than basically reading the entire episode in tweets. It was shocking when I read this, but holy crap that was more jaw dropping.
This is a great example of Matt's DM skills. Scry is a wisdom save but he didn't even roll for it knowing the players needed to see that Molly was alive. You can see just their reactions how epic of a moment that was for them.
I think Lucien (cause lets be honest, mollys gone) and the tomb takers are absolutely gonna be the main villains of the campaign. For one reason. How this campaign has treated villains, I found interesting. their hasnt really been a singular villain or group of villains for a period of time, for like the entire time. The closest we got was obann and he was killed rather quickly. And second, they actually have some stake in this villain. Cree and her group of friends made sacrilege of their memory of their friend, turning him into a puppet of what he was.
Holy shit I don't think I've ever seen Marisha literally BEG Matt to keep the session going before. That's how you know the session was just that good XD
I knew the SECOND Taliesin made a new character Matt was going to do something with Molly down the road. Never mind that Molly already died once before, but the chance to have such a story thread and let it sit and sit for over a year is right up Mercer’s alley. Matt doesn’t just stab you in the heart, he likes the twist the knife too.
Your use of minimalist editing with REALLY GOOD music choices is really remarkable. The darkness while the music rang out was so perfect. Great work, and now I REALLLLY gotta catch up.
It may have decomposed by the time Molly arose, but if you remember, Caleb left a note tucked into Molly’s shirt telling him his name and to find the gentleman.
That Matt’s laugh… the same laughter I heard when my DM tell us that we woke up to the over-friendly NPC we met for quite a while and decide to share a room at the inn with to share the payment, laying on floor, throat cut clean open and bunch of unreadable runes surround him. And now we are the prime suspect of this locked-room mystery. And then he ended the session.
That coat is gonna come back, my brain came with the image of beau, standing in the snow, holding Molly's coat out to him in the wind as the purple tie fling stands there, hood down, just staring. And my heart's broken T^T
I remember my heart breaking a couple months ago for the death and funeral. Then, todayc I was at work when I watched 111. The moment they felt the looser dirt, I began to react. “No...” They aren’t able to find anything as they continue digging: “nooooo.....” The reveal. : *incoherent screaming* I had been doing laundry when it happened, and the noises I made, I think they resemble the fandom’s reaction to this reveal.
Is it just me or is Tal's reaction a little... muted compared to the rest? I wonder if Matt had discussed bringing Molly back with him before going forward with this.
It's clearly something he knew about. I highly doubt Matt would go forward on something without consulting the player he needs to. Sam had to ask Liam if he could have Scanlan's last wish be to bring Vax back for the vow renewal.
The character backstories were mostly figured out by everyone at the table except for Nott's, which was semi improvised along the way. It's fair to assume Matt had an idea of where things could and would go with Molly originally, then repurposed that story right after the character died. Obviously enough he probably talked about it with Tal as well to straighten out the details.
Bro when molly was first introduced I feel in love with the character and the way taileson made him. Now a version of him is back and that detail of molly smiling makes me think he’s either back on his mission as his old self or a the version we saw when we first meet him. Either way I can’t wait!
Oh he's the BBEG, I called this from the time he died. Playfully at first, because he said he has been resurrected before. The peacock feather eyes of 9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9 and when they heard about the eyes of 9 from the astral sea, confirmed it. Also, I did this to my group when I first said that he would be the BBEG. I was still shocked that I was right, when they raveled it though.
this episode had me nearly shaking as moment after moment revealed to them that molly was no longer in his grave. and i already KNEW he comes back as Lucien. the slow dread on their faces was so fun to watch and so relatable
I have been watching CR since October and I’m finally caught up. I knew Molly died and came back to life but that was it. Watching this all I thought was “that’s not Molly! Molly is gone! This teifling is a completely different being that you guys are not ready for!”
