Wow, Jon. Your videos are so right on and well-done. I had my '93 MR2 for 23 years before selling it last May. It was a great car. I hated to see it go - IMHO, the second gen was the best. (The fact that I also have 2003 Miata sort of eased the pain.) Thanks again.

A new Toyota MR2 for this century would be interesting. I would envision a mid-engined 2-seat coupe with 2 engine options: a 190hp 2.5 liter inline 4 and a 275hp 2.4 liter turbo inline 4. That would appeal to buyers who want an affordable mid-engined sports car who couldn't afford a Porsche Boxster or a Ferrari.

Ironically the 2000-2007 generation Toyota MR2 seemed to be inspired by the Porsche Boxster

They were better than Boxsters, sort of, those MR2's. Smaller, nimbler, more to the point. Of small midengined sportscars.

electric , the fiero sucks handling to back heavy no front end grip. ned’s better balance i assume the mr2 feels the same as it’s basically designed the same, fwd system in the back, where porsche and others balance the cars better , gas and batteries in the front simple things that made them handle better than cheaper mid engines cars

I agree with your closing statement. The current Toyota GR86 comes as close to meeting your list as anything I've seen. I would have included the Mazda Miata, but being that I am 6' 3", I do not fit into the Miata. So it isn't a "car for everybody", but I do fit quite comfortably into the GR86.

The most accurate information of this model done to date. So many others who try to produce a video like this always seem to get the information incorrect. Not so with this video. Job well done Jon!

The MR2 was my go to car for the first two generations. I loved that car! I must admit it all started with the Fiat X 1/9. My father said absolutely no way. I considered Fiero but he wasn't crazy about that either. When I found my first 1986 MR2 I must have worn him down because he approved. He saved us some headache also by denying my first two choices.; in addition my mom fell in love with them and called it a Mister 2 before I knew that was a thing. From there I owned 3 other 2nd Gen MR2s for various reasons none due to the reliability of the cars. My last was a 1991 gun metal gray turbo which I sold a few years back because my dealership could no longer take care of it and I am not that mechanical. It found a home with someone who is more mechanically inclined than me and is taking excellent care of it. Also, I thought I had finally gotten over it I guess but not really. The MR2 will always hold a place in my heart and mind as I remember the Gen 1 and its perfect balance as it would pivot around the hips in the curves and turns and the Gen 2 for its sexiness and speed of the Turbo along with more livable size. I don't know if Toyota will ever do that again, how perfect was that venture with the Yamaha sourced engines. I will forever miss those days but damn was glad I was. here to enjoy those cars! Thanks Jon!!

Thanks for sharing the memories! What jumped out at me was your first choices were the X1/9 and Fiero... did you ever tell your Dad "thank you" for those "nos"? :)

I owned a 1991 SW20 (non turbo, manual, t-top) for about a year. I had to sell it after the engine blew up (the previous owner didn’t time it right…) in the dead of winter. I miss it.

I went from a 944s2 Porche to 99 MR2 ''T top". The Mr2 was superior in every way, fit and finish was way better and performance wise was in a dfferent league. Ah.....! still miss it.

In wet conditions at highway speed the rear end felt like it was fish tailing causing me to counter steer constantly. Very dangerous. Anyone else?
