Samba Jazz Syndicate performs AC Jobim 2/13/12 Phil DeGreg-piano, Kim Pensyl-trumpet, Rusty Burge-vibes, Aaron Jacobs-bass, John Taylor-drums...video/recording by Bill Gwynne, audio mix by Kim Pensyl
I found this fabulous group a few years ago - absolutely amazing musicians - love John Taylor. My first thought those years ago was that they looked like a bunch of very talented "accountants!" I recently returned to this series because their interpretation of Jobim is wonderful. In a world of uncommon stress they certainly soothe the soul. Brilliant gentlemen, brilliant. Thank you.
I love Jobim’s music. He’s one of, if not my favourite composer. What an excellent rendition of one of his best! Also can’t believe they got Steve Jobs on drums😂
1962 l picked up a 45 rpm single of " A Bird Flies out of Sight " ( A Felicidade) by The Tokens, a N.Y.studio group.Sounded so esoteric and captivating..then "Desafinado" came out by Getz & Byrd, then captivated by music of Brasil and A.C.Jobim to this day..went to.Rio in 1999 to pay homage to ACJ and Brasil..magic.
What a way to arise on a Sunday morning listening to this artistry of these jazz musicians. ❤ I listened to it first thing and now I am listening again with my heart opening wide.❤ Jobim, ah!!!!
What a pleasure to happen upon this. A classic song in the hand of players who make it look so easy, and fill it with the bitter sweetness it deserves. Amazing listen, thank you!
From BLACK ORPHEUS..often this beautiful song gets lost because it is first heard early in the film, when Euridice is going up the hill to see her cousin. It is so lovely....thanks..great audio, again!!!
I've listened to this countless times in the last few years and find something special each time. This time, the fabulous piano from 4:48 to 5:35. Fabulous!
Masterfully done! Love the perfect balance of all the instruments, the in & out weave that gives excellent texture & melodic expression, super leads and the rhythm section spot on. I think I'll save this and try overdubbing my congas so I can listen from inside the music. This is the style of Latin jazz that I really, really love - just the right amount of every instrument to keep it light & smooth as silk, but still with that distinct Latin rhythmic styling. You guys are a real pleasure to watch & listen to...
Steinways are the finest pianos in the world. After playing on an old Steinway for a number of years, nothing else had that rich deep tone. Smooth soft action that didn't kill your fingers and wrists like some.
I thank God for each one in this instrumental quintet who play the Latin gems with outstanding improvisational renditions, especially 'The girl from Ipanema', in 7/8 time signature done so unbelievably subtly ! I must whisper a prayer for them !
I listen to this very often. I am so thankful these five brilliant musicians had the opportunity to meet and craft these absolutely brilliant interpretations of jazz standards. This is just beyond good. Every single member of the band is an absolute master of their craft. When really listening to how perfect and beautiful those harmonies are its almost like they can read eachothers’ minds. This music fits any occasion. Having a glass of wine at home, smoking a nice joint, having a fun party with friends, and even when one wants to seriously listen to and analyze some high level jazz. You guys should have sold out Carnegie hall a long time ago!!!
Eleven years ago, noted in the discription box, and this group makes it sound fresh, nicely recorded! It seems that this number, which is one of my favourites didnt feature in the repertoire of groups highliting Jobim. Some justice has been done!
This is definitely a Jobim arrangement - AC Jobim's style of playing is just muy suave! It's his own bossa signature! just love it! really just love it! (very much - con mucho gusto!)
Let's the engineering deparment take care of the music... Bring some guys from design desk, manufacturing, materials or service assistance and put them toghether. Guess what? They sounded amazing. As naturally. What an ensamble. You guys are brilliant. Or beyond.
