The day I rode my Klr home from the dealership I was riding down a road that had groves in it and made the bike feel very unstable and unhappy. I bought a knock off cheapish forkbrace off of amazon called the xitomer motorcycle fork brace the same day. Once I got the brace I put it on and all problems solved, I rode down the same road that had the groves and barely a twitch. 151 here in Wi also has groves on most of the highway and I've rode 40 miles at 75mph with no fuss from the bike.
@Curbjaw
@Curbjaw 2 месяца назад
Just curious, all the fork braces I've seen I've been kind of put off because the shock boot is left sort of up, and not as protective for dirt getting into the forks, are you having any issues with that?
@Stickmister360
@Stickmister360 2 месяца назад
@@Curbjaw no issues so far. I have about 7 thousand miles on and haven't noticed any oil leak from the forks. The boots sit very snug on the brace. I did 150 miles all gravel roads in northern Iowa and Minnesota, if there is a leak I don't think I'd even know the boots are so snugged up on there
@benargee
@benargee 14 дней назад
@@Stickmister360 I think the issue is how the boot vents are not lower than the fork seals anymore and could cause water and dust to collect in the dip. I think you have been fortunate, but it really seems like a design flaw on the part of the braces. I wish someone would sell a design that can still channel venting like the original boot location does.
@whereswaldo5740

Acerbis motocross front fender fixed the wobble. It was about $30. And is shorter considerably and narrower. Plus it has vents at the back to help with cooling the engine and radiator.

I used to get a little shaky feeling at speeds above 80mph on my ktm 690. I added a Scott’s steering damper with hopes that it would take care of it. It helped but the feeling was still there. Paying closer attention to tire pressure also helped but switching the knobby tires to a more a more 50/50 tire is what helped the most. I chose Dunlop Mission tires. They aren’t as good off-road as the knobby tires I was running but they don’t walk around on the street. I’m also pretty sure I’ll get more miles out of them than the knobby tires. I have to say though that the Dunlop’s are very slippery until scrubbed in so careful in the turns until you get some miles on them

Your dead on with the air flow. I'm a Goldwing rider for 40 years, and this video is a really informative one for these kind of bikes. the last thing you want is wet and wobble. The tires are also important like you said. I'm going to get my first KLR in a few months and retire to the mountain terrain. Chasing the white lines will be no more. Know Chasing the back woods scenery.💯🏍🏍

Bigger problem with handling is shock spring is too light. Gen 2 springs fits gen 3 shock. Get the suspension set up correctly before replacing other parts. My high speed wobble completely disappeared with proper spring rate and preload, still got the fender I think it looks better.

Form certain angles I really like the OEM fender, some of that is just because it reminds me of my old gen 2 though I suppose. The KX fender does really seem to fit the lines of the new KLR though!

Wobble gets worse with tire wear differential front to rear. The flattens due to be driven wheel. Windshiel up vs down can make better or worse.. Want a real problem...over inflate front tire....remove I bark buster and hang on really tight... Too tight steering head bearings will create a weave... Bike has a rear ward weight bias... this can cause instability...more weight to rear will make it worse.. Afore brace will make it worse...causes stiction and compromises responsiveness.. Your axle is 3mm larger than Gen 2 and unlike Gen 1 is pinched on both ends

I just went to buy a leftover '22 in Milwaukee today priced at $5600, thought that was a good deal until dealer fee's totaled over $7400....hell nah. I might watch for a used one, seen them at $5500 but always in lower MI or MN too far away. Til then putting the D605's back on KLX for some road manners.

Love the channel, and glad you decided to keep the KLR over the Tenere. It seems everyone else is getting rid of theirs. I'm interested in the fork brace and low fender mount myself. It seems the only downside to something like that is mud packing the front tire up, but I'm not sure how often that's going to bother me.
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions Год назад
Yeah I think a lot of people just don't really "get it". The Tenere is a far superior machine in a lot of aspects, but the KLR just has more soul. There are definitely situations where mud can pack up on a tire, and I'm sure the low fender makes that an awful situation. Honestly I don't think I've ever been in that type of mud though. I think it takes a special type of soil and a lot of it, to really be a problem.

I switched to that fender and before it felt bad in the wind and I could not keep up with the heavier street bikes. Yesterday in wind gusts up to 25mph it handled better and kept up with the other bikes. Not a huge difference but I like it better than the stock fender.

My gen 3 road perfect for the first few thousand miles I could hit around 100 no problem got new tires mitas e07 +and they're a ridiculously heavy tire but anyway it started to wobble around 80 and figured it was the tires but later on I had to adjust my chain and noticed about a 16th inch of play in the alignment indicator things so I made sure they were both slid forward against the shaft and started tightening against them and zeroed the back wheel in correctly and now it wobbles at around 90 no idea why they have so much slack in the alignment tabs but they do it's like a full line difference if one is forward and the other one is back but many times I've thought I had a problem in the front of a motorcycle and it turned out to be in the back I've had a flat back tire I swore was a flat front tire until I stopped and looked just saying if the front is wobbly could be because of something in the back.loose spokes too

I bought the first gen 3 my dealer got in in the fall of 2021, I’ve put 6000 miles on it so far. I’ve never had a lot of issues with wobbles on mine, and I do 70-75 mph for about 20 miles daily. Granted I ran the stock tires for the first 3500 miles, and have Shinko 705s now. Maybe I’m just used to horrible road manners since all my bikes have either been dual sports or made in the 80s 😅
@SwankyCatProductions

I've have a slim fender on one gen2 and the other gen2 is stock. I don't feel any difference. Also had a fork brace for one ride. It's now in a box somewhere. I'm actually surprised how well the bike holds it's ground when I wiggle the bars at highway speeds, my Tenere would start to wobble when I'd do that. The KLR doesn't get to moving around until I shake the middle of the bike with my knees, or when some other sort of force acts on it in a similar manor.
