I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for years. Any QC department with any shop would write ✍️ that steering rack up as "seepage." Meaning no leak. Just keep an eye on it. You never know you may have spilled a little bit of oil when filling your engine. Or when you've serviced your power steering fluid. So I wouldn't be too worried about that steering rack. Just keep an eye on it 👍. And that tube of Grease will probably last you a lifetime 😂. Cody 🐕 sure is adorable 😀. Great video Chloe 👍. ♥️🌮🐶🐾

Good info on the higher charging voltage required for optimum charging of AGM batteries. I haven't heard about this before and it explains why my battery charger has an AGM setting. I guess I've lucked out and avoided the problem simply by being too cheap to spend the extra $$ for an AGM.

A couple of things I like to do. 1)Install a Voltmeter. Either cigarette lighter, under dash or in dash. Whatever works best. 2) Buy a service manual. Whether in book form or DVD, it is great reading. It can give you an idea of what is involved in a job, and then you can judge if you want to take on that task. I have them for most cars I've had. 1961 Corvair to 2013 Transit Connect 😎

Check out the Fumoto oil drain valve. It replaces the oil drain plug and has a spring-loaded lever valve the drains the oil out of a nipple to which you can connect a hose to direct the used oil directly into the hole in the catch can. I have one on my Tacoma and Corolla and it makes oil changes easier and neater.

I just cleaned the battery terminals on my 2020 TRDPRO so I had the battery disconnected for about an hour. I was surprised that there were almost no consequences to doing this. The only thing that changed were a few navigation preferences. Radio presets and even the clock setting was preserved. I have also picked up 1-2 MPG in fuel economy and the vehicle seems to shift and run slighty better. I actually have one of those memory preservtion devices and chose not to use it. Don't be afraid to disconnect the battery. Nothing negative will happen. You are grossly over lubing those u-joints.

Around 1970 my friend's sister had one of those new Toyota things. The dealer told her it needed $450 for a new front end--which was serious rent money! We asked around, sent her to an honest tire/front end shop. All it needed was a $35 alignment. That shop gained 3 very long term customers on that day. Finding an honest and competent shop is damned hard.

I heard the batteries die pretty quickly on the 3g tacos, to me that means days from the first sign, but it was actually hours, and even after a 3hr drive. It jump started fine and I used the key to lock/unlock the doors when going into stores to avoid shutting it off....helpful to know. Installed a new battery on the way home without using any kind of memory-saver and didn’t lose any settings except the trip odometers again. 17 OR with the original battery, oddly the dealer said it was fine a few months prior....I know better but rolled the dice and lost! Anything past 4 years is pushing it!

The battery saver definitely wouldn't have worked if you plugged the other end in the cigarette lighter that's powered by your battery... That oil filter wrench is the best one out there in my opinion. Toyota care sucks. Toyota Carlsbad didn't change the oil filter on my wife's RAV4. I know because it still had my writing on it from one "I" put on six months earlier. Had I not noticed this and followed their maintenance schedule, her car wouldn't of had the first filter change for two years! Who knows if they would have even changed it then? Then they refuse to do the second oil change because I was 11 days late. Which is only because the first time they told me I was too early. If BMW changed my transmission out of warranty in "good faith", I'm sure Toyota could have certainly done an oil change. Then they waaay overfilled it. Like at least a half inch over the full mark. Probably because they didn't change the filter. So I had to redo their work after I got home. Probably did the same on my Tacoma but harder to prove with a cartridge filter. Sorry but in my opinion, Toyota care is a joke. At least at Toyota Carlsbad it is. Keep on filming!

To be clear. The tacoma alternator will fully charge a group 24F battery regardless if its Lead or AGM. Its only when you go above to a 27F group that you will need more voltage to charge the battery 100%. Tacoma World has extensive information on this subject.

If you want to pay for the expense of the AGM battery and the ECU tune I guess it would be a good idea. AGM batteries are good because they can be at a partial state of charge for a long time without being damaged. Lead acid has to be topped off at all times to last. That’s why AGM are used for auto start stop. They run in a partial state of charge for very long periods.

I diy car audio. Plenty of mistakes done over the years. But now my build has gotten several compliments. Agm batteries are better because they are designed for deep cycling so you can run the battery dead many times. A regular lead acid battery will be bad after going dead 2-3 times

Chloe , if you plan to keep your truck a long time and don’t want engine issues , make it a point to change your oil and filter every 5000 miles and rotate your tires as well. Trying to stretch it to 10k miles is asking for problems. Oil is cheap compared to paying thousands and thousands for a new engine block plus the labor. Kudos to you for trying to perform your maintenance.

My gen-3 (2001) 4Runner came with a Panasonic battery from the Hiroshima factory. It lasted 13 years, and likely could have been used for at least another year, but with winter coming, I decided to replace it with a Sears DieHard (no Panasonic car batteries are sold in the U.S.) that lasted another 8 years. So I'm surprised that your battery had a lifespan of only 4 years. Maybe Toyota is cost-cutting with its battery selection, anymore.
@brianwaller7383
@brianwaller7383 Год назад
You can add diodes to your alternator which will increase alternator voltage. The car audio community regularly does this because lithium batteries require a 15 volt charge and amplifiers run more efficiently at higher voltage unless you get sundown audios salt amps

Had to deal with battery manufactures when I used to do backup battery plants for phone equipment. They always said the standard life of a lead acid is 4-5 years. I usually replace mine at 4 years because living in a cold climate you don't want a fail to start on a freezing winter morning. Going past 5 years is living on borrowed time.

Just to comment on your rear end gear ratio, I never would have gone w. the 4.56 gears. simply because they are almost for drag racing, very low ratio gears also might feel great off the jump but you will have no top end seeing that you drive to work and back too and not to mention poor gas mileage after the install. Maybe ok for the trails only. Those guys at the shop should have more explaining for you first. Thats my opion anyway.

One suggestion I did for my garage - when working on or storing your vehicle in the garage you need to ventilate fumes out. I keep an old air quality monitor out there to make sure I’m not breathing a ridiculous amount of fumes. I actually installed a basic ventilation system in my garage to help with that issue. One end of the garage has an 8” exhaust fan grill with inline duct fan and the other end of the garage has a duct going to outside to let in fresh air. It works well with the mini split A/C out there to keep it healthy. 😊. You can also open a door or window when needed.

Yes, the tune does NOT get reset to OEM. In order to reset the Tune, it must be flashed back to OEM

Install an oil drain valve on your TACO, you won't have the mess and torque to 30 F/B every time you do an oil change.

Always change your battery when your at 12v don't go any lower, cause it will worn out your alternator 😅

Don't wait 10k to change oil. It must be 5k or every six months if you want no issues later.

I was also doing 5k oil changes with mostly city driving but switched to 7.5k with a lot more highway driving.

I’m 53, I’ve maintained and rebuilt my own vehicles all my life. One of the reasons to buy a new Tacoma was to let some other m-f’er do the damned maintenance for a change. 😂 I’m tired of crawling under cars.

I’m 26 and don’t have the knowledge to work on anything more complicated than a Tacoma 😂 Still bought a new one this year before the 4th Gen, so I hopefully don’t have to learn too soon haha

@@sullivan9191 Well, my daily drivers when I was your age were a ‘72 Bug and a ‘67 Ford F100, primarily the Bug. You don’t have a choice with a Bug, if you want it to run, you’re doing CONSTANT maintenance. The Ford is a good deal easier, but nobody but me touches her. She’s my baby.

@@corneliuscrewe677 very nice, I’ve actually helped a couple buddies rebuild both a early 70’s super beetle and a 68 or 69 f100 back in high school. The f100 is still trucking along doing fishing trips to Baja, idk about the beetle though lol

I guarantee that “ ever start “ battery won’t last as long as the oem Toyota battery. Always use the oil that Toyota recommends, not what others think will be ok.
