Something else I just remembered that went “out” on my Tacoma within 50,000 miles was the Bluetooth on my stock radio. I had it reset by the dealership a few times, tried different phones, but at some point bluetooth just stopped working all together. I’ve since swapped out my stock radio for an aftermarket one with CarPlay and I’ve had no issues since. Anyways, thanks for watching the video and sharing your advice (especially on my steering rack leak)!

Thats probably common with later model toyotas. I had a 2014 rav4 with a stock head unit and it was useless then got a sony with carplay for about 300 bucks with installation included and it changed the whole car.

One thing I usually do when I see something that looks like it could be a leak,is thoroughly clean the area. Dirt, grease, etc. Clean it off make it look new. Then watch it like a hawk, lol. Sometimes, things just happen underneath the truck. Maybe not even a leak. But, unless you start fresh, you'll have a harder time determining if you're leaking and how much.

Highly recommend, I can’t tell ya how many times leaks are far more calculable or found by just taking a couple minutes of proper cleaning.

Yep. Could be just be some residual oil from an oil change that blew onto the boot with the wind blowing under while driving. And it will look fresh for a while.

The Toyota TRD Off Road is the best quality with the highest resale value on the market. I took my time looking at the Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet ZR2, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Titan XD, etc. I had to settle for the smaller size 4WD because my garage would not fit the full size Toyota Tundra that I wanted. You will not be disappointed with the Tacoma.

If you get sumo springs from superspring international on the front and remove the front Sway bar, you'll have waaay better ride quality with not much added body roll. It's a lot more comfortable going over bumps in the road at speed, and if you ever drop the front tire down, such as off a rock or a curb, the truck will not shake as much. Your front end will also return to center much quicker offroad. Also, there's no more risk of the sway bar hitting the remote reservoir if there's no more sway bar.

Yup my 2022 has the misaligned bumper....3800 miles and the truck is leveled from the dealer. I have a shell and 100 additional pounds in it and at times its looking like it might be sagging a tad. Just ordered Firestone 2407 airbags to add a bit of lift. I don't offroad much but do carry a load when traveling. Bikes, racks trailer with kayaks. Went from American full size trucks to Tacoma again....will see....in the 80's they were tough little trucks. Good video.

Great video and thank you for the content. I drive a first gen 2003 Taco that just last week rolled over 500 000 kilometers (approx 310 000 miles). I replaced my original steering rack at about 420 000 km, so I wouldn't be too happy about a leaking rack at 50k miles. I agree 100% with other commenters here in that I would clean that boot spic-and-span and watch it like a hawk- maybe you caught some sort of splash from a parking lot up onto that boot. It might even have been an oily sheen on a puddle in an off-road location. If the rack actually is leaking, I'd consider taking it to a REALLY good shop that knows how to reseal it before dropping $900 for a new one. Shops that can do this work well are not easy to find. And the leaf springs! The truck I'm driving now is my third first-gen, and all 3 of them were underbuilt on the rear suspension. I had to put helper leafs in each, and I'm nearly ready to put a whole new set into the 2003. It's a little disappointing that Toyota hasn't engineered a solution during the evolution to Gen 3. Thanks again- eat, sleep, and you know the rest.
@JimmyD670

I have a 21' TRD Off Road & I was surprised that my leaf springs went into a big Carolina Squat when I put an Uhaul car hauler attached to it. I was within the limits that Toyota set for the tongue weight and for the overall weight, but that was just the empty trailer & it made my leaf springs squat big time. I have never seen a 4 wheel drive rear leafs bend like that with such little weight applied & I ended up buying the Old Man EMU 2 3/4" inch heavy duty leaf springs, solved that problem real quick, but that did make for a rougher ride when the bed is empty. I am running with the adjustable 31/2" Rough Country Vertex reservoir shocks & front coil overs.

I just had my 2021 TRD Sport in for a 40K service. No issues, however, about 30 miles after that, I got a check engine light ( I had a Pedal Commander installed). Took out the PC and brought it to the dealership. It ended up to be a throttle body replacement. The service tech, a friend, said this was the third one they've replaced and the previous two had PCs installed. The PC worked great, but since that event , I haven't put it back in. Probably going on sale on Marketplace. Other than that, the truck works great and no issues! Just a thought.

Loved this! Ive done quite a few mods on my 2020TRD Sport 4x4...she only has 11,500k on her but they are all miles Ive put on her since I got her right before the pandemic hit. I did have a 2nd gen (2012 same model...almost stock...just larger tires and a 3 inch lift i had put in around the 50k mark) i did trade her in at 65k for that 2020 and she only depreciated 5k!! Anyway..minor issue that drives me nuts is how easy it is to scratch the plastic on the interior plastic of the doors...I swear I just look at it and it scratches lol. I do take her offroad and she has a few pinstripes from the NM mesquite and catclaw but i wish protech could come up with something for the interior doors like they did for the pillars on the outside...enjoyed the video and the chance to say a little minor issue...she is a beast offroad with her 5.29s, OTT tune and the Dobinson MRR adjustable suspension along with their leaf package. Its been awesome...and yeh i had the bumper cap thing too😆

I've had my used Tundra for 2 years now and its at over 140k miles. Surprisingly ownership has just mostly been oil changes and filters. There is recently purchasing new tires after my previous KO2s had finally worn down enough for replacement. Its estimated that they lasted over 60k miles if not more but not sure of exacts as I didn't originally put them on. The only big issue to happen is a part that had to be replaced realting to the brake lights always being on. A few buttons on the stock radio were starting to go out when I first got the truck, however, I had already planned to replace it with an aftermarket carplay option which I did. So glad to say its been mostly regular maintenance! Also would've got a Tacoma but the Tundra won me over with the tow capacity, just wish I had Tacoma fuel economy.

I have a 17 TRD off-road with an access cab. It has 25K miles on it and is not my daily driver. I noticed the shift lever (automatic transmission) was getting stiff and not wanting to move. Then, the D for drive would not come up on the gage cluster. It would even pop out of drive when I first started moving and I would have to play with the shifter to get it in the right spot to stay in drive. Also the cruise control would not work. Eventually, I got a check engine and traction control lights. Then one day it simply would not go into drive at all. Luckily I was at my house. I took the lever for the shifter cable off and the shifter moved freely. So I knew it was either the shifter cable or something inside of the transmission. I cleaned and sprayed WD40 on the shifter cable lever underneath the truck on the driver side where it goes into the transmission. It has worked perfectly for the last 2 months. I live in Ohio and the rust must of made the shifter lever stick.

I had an AC blower motor go out even after the recall, a leaking rear differential, paint failure with the super white paint code 040 in many areas of the truck, rear brake drum problems, and the worst being a rear main seal leak. If you have seen other you tube videos they put stiffeners in the corner of the bed(by the tailgate to help stiffen the bed to handle the add weight of campers. As an independent import shop, we flush power steering systems every 35,000 miles. We utilize BG automotive additives, lubricants and cleaners. We also utilize Lubegard 100% synthetic power steering fluid when we don’t have their products readily available. I own a 2007 Tundra and other than replacing some of the rubber/nitrile hoses, no issues with the rack/pinion, Ove used the Lubegard fluid with excellent results. Consider adding 4-6 ounces of ATP 201 after the flush. That should solve your issue. BTW, if you must replace your rack and pinion, Toyota also sells remanufactured rack and pinions. Some dealers won’t tell you since they make less $$$ on these units.

Never wipe clear plastic with a cloth. Even the cloth is wet it it will put micro scratch’s on poly carbonate. . My truck is 14 years old. And the clear gauge cover his zero scratches. Same goes for the entire dash . Personally I think chemicals like armor all make dash get dirtier.

Have about 54k on mine. No major issues. My blind spot monitor went out and also my drivers side heated seat. Which I’ve heard it’s really common on our trucks. I just did a tranny drain and refill, heard they recommend doing it at 60k. I will also be doing the spark plugs very soon. 👍🏽. Love your content btw. Good job!

@DosbrosTacosandEuros Год назад
@@SeanStewart88 I have not, I really love the blind spot monitor too but the blind spot module that is on the drivers side which I heard is the “main module” that controls both sides is like $600! I might have to find a used one at a junkyard or something but it did go out like at 30-40k miles. 😤

@@DosbrosTacosandEurosyeah just another gadget to break. Still have my old school 1st gen tundra trd. It's gettin old, but it will probably outlast me. I just can't justify buying anything with the market prices these days. Even on used trucks. If i do buy anything again it would be the last of the dinosaurs...the 5th gen TankRunner. But they're about to go extinct. Maybe get one used when the car market ever freakin settles.

I would turn the front wheels all way to left or right, whichever way extends the tie rod to max length. Than the boot should be stretched out as far as it can be. Take some CRC Non-Chlorinated Brake Cleaner and spray the rubber /plastic boot down real good. Than look at the boot for any small cracks. If you see one, there is the issue. If you don't, just keep a eye on it. Is it possible some grease flew on it from driving from you greasing your grease fittings? With your floor mats, maybe the hot sun has started to deform them. The hot interior temperature when it is sitting outside can get pretty high. Thanks Chloe

Hi, about the leak on your rack. Check your transmission lines to your radiator. I had the upper transmission line leak at 5k miles, and it looked just like your leak. Just run your hand along the hoses to check for leaks. Hope this helps.

Hello Chloe , I don’t know if you know but the tacomas are known for the needle bearing breaking!! That’s exactly in the area where you see the leak. I just had my needle bearing removed and replaced with a much better bearing from ECGS it’s about $90 bucks and a great mechanic near San Diego fixed it. Don’t even take it to the dealer they’re just going to install another needle bearing. This usually happens when you raise your Tacoma.
@aaronnewton3056
@aaronnewton3056 Год назад
That’s right, I can attest to that… I bought the same bushing kit from ECGS and had it installed counting the parts for $240. My Tacoma has a 2 inch lift and started vibrating at around 60 to 65 mph and was making a humming noise the ECGS bushing kit, fixed it up like new.
@ChloeKuo
@ChloeKuo Год назад
Thank you for the advice! have heard about the ECGS bushing, although I don’t feel the vibration issues after lifting as described by others which is why I haven’t done it. But it’s something to certainly be aware of prior to lifting a Tacoma though!

That power steering leak looks very minor. You could probably get away with adding a small amount of seal reconditioner (i.e. at205 reseal) to the power steering fluid instead of replacing the entire rack

In the 90’s we had this great product called motor purr. It was a little bottle of seal swelling liquid. It was great for power steering leaks and even fixed a handful of jeep rear main seal leaks

My 2017 is all dry underneath. I would recommend cleaning it off really well and the watch it. That could possibly be something from the road. And also if it is a seep in the rack and pinion unit the moisture will show up again and then you will have a good idea as to how bad the seep is. I’ve only changed fluids and brakes. Nothing else. My 2017 is awesome I Love it. Got a lift and it’s so much fun. Just a daily driver and good to take fishing off road.

2021 tundra 27k miles list of complaints haha Biggest gripe by far is how easily everything in the interior scratches and I mean everything. All the door panels plastics just the most minor brush of anything against leaves ugly ass scratch marks and it drives me insane!!! Transmission does weird shifting sometimes, doesn’t like being cold. Downshifts way too much while at any slight hill. Not as smooth as my previous 2013 tundra. Seats are not comfortable at all, I actually think my old 2020 Tacoma was more comfortable than my tundra. Just stuff as a board and hard on long trips. Not the best seats by a long shot. Terrible stock tires, which I guess is to be expected. They’re at 5/32nds with only 27k miles . Pretty lame Everything seems to be holding up great. No mechanical issues, nothing broken. Just minor annoyances more than anything.

When I bought my Gen 3, the next month was my Bday, so my son gifted me the WeatherTech mats. I'm at 46k and they are holding up nicely. Very pleased. Did you notice the bed being off-center? Mentioned it at the dealership, we walked around and looked, they're all that way. Since all were like that, I assume there's some assembly quirk. Apparently, I was the first person that had mentioned it.. He did mention there's a few things like that from one assembly location to another. Anyway, you're most appreciated. Always look forward to your videos.

The only issue I've had with my 2018 tacoma, is the cats failed at about 30k miles and caused the truck to go into a limp mode or derate mode but I got them replaced under warranty. That's really the only issue I've had, and the spare tire chain won't hold the tire up, and I've only used my spare once when I had a flat before heading to work one morning
