A few Sequential Circuits Drumtraks patterns - sorry for the change in light when I move my arm, I'm not sure what happened, as I had the camera exposure locked in manual mode.
I've never had the pleasure of playing around with any of the vintage drum machines. The versatility to create a more involved beat was surprising and fun to watch. And, not sure how the patches are assigned and sequenced, but it looks way more fun than a DAWs pattern sequencers. :)
+Golem XIII I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the EPROMs for the sounds were interchangeable between the DX/DMX/Drumtraks/Linn and you can reprogram the EPROMS using an Oberheim Prommer.
I do like the pitch of the hand clap when it's taken down,very close to the sound of the clap on the linndrum & this is a fraction of the price on the second hand market.
I thought the Drumtraks was supposed to be a lo-cost alternative to the frontrunners like the LiinnDrum, Drumulator and DMX. This sounds pretty hi-quality to me, especially for an 80s piece.
that's a bit of a misnomer that people have perpetuated. While this Drumtracks was definitely less money than the LinnDrum & DMX, both of those machines were around $3,000 in early 80s dollars (so way more when adjusted for inflation) and around the same time, the Drumtracks was about $1,300 (then adjust that for inflation too). so it wasn't the MOST expensive drum machine on the market at the time, but it wasn't cheap either. it was definitely a professionally-priced piece of gear. and i agree, it sounds amazing. each drum is super thick and full
Linn LM1 was about $5500 (translating into about £45k now) whereas the DrumTraks would be around $1300 which is about £4.5k now doing a quick google. My parents bought their home for around £12k at the time!
@@Skootavision strange math, 5500:1300 ratio is 1 : 4.23 whereas 45 : 4.5 ratio is 1 : 1000 looks like for different pieces of gear different inflation and exchange rates apply
Brian, I had both of these machines, the linndrum used 2732k eproms like the oberhiem Dmx. The Drumtracks used 2764k chips like the oberhiem Dx and Drumulator which were a bit bigger. But I found the linndrum & drumtracks sounded a bit similar.
any opinions on the TOM? I love the flams and rolls on this one, it seems the TOM has the same kind of functions... nice demo, just have to decide which one to get to use along with my DX
Great demo! I got one recently and when I save patterns and I turn off the drumtraks, The presets are erased when I turn it on. Is there another step in saving presets with this machine?

Sequential made several drum machines including the Studio 440 which was a drum machine, sampler, and sequencer. I never cared for the Drumtraks or the TOM but love the Studio 440.
Agree danny. I bought the drumtracks after my linndrum broke down. I was great good sounds and portable and had midi as standard plus your basic connections.
