You Sir, are a life saver. I've spent hours searching for a basics tutorial on Krita, just to find out how to move and manipulate pieces of my digital sketches and this is the ONLY one I've seen that has actually explained how to do so. I'm sure that most digital artists take these tiny things for granted as general knowledge, but for someone just starting out in digital drawing and new to Krita this is super helpful. Thank you so much for this video. :D
So. Cool. Thank you so much for leaving this comment. I remember what it's like to just be starting out. Everyone says they wanna help, but skip so much stuff. I always try give even the littlest (to most people, silly) tips and controls - to help ANYONE and everyone. Thank YOU for watching :)
same for me. I can't really afford photoshop by myself right now and all tutorials (except for yours) is out of date or too complicated for my simple mind. ;-;
Aw man! @Gaming 360, just seeing these! :o I hear that! I can't afford anything either :D Plus, Photoshop is an unecessary piece of work. It DOES have a lot of nice features to help workflow, BUT you can do ANYTHING Photoshop can do either in GIMP or Krita with a little effort. Even if I was a trillionaire, I wouldn't pay monthly to use ANY program.
@@Jess-jh8ml oh thats cool, i thought about wanting one with a screen, but since ive never used a sketch tablet before, i thought it was a good idea to start off simple
@@xxcrypticxx3806 Ye, I saw one with a screen and I said I wanted that one for Christmas but nearer to Christmas I said I didnt mind if it had a screen or not but I got the one I saw origanilly, but ye so I've got one with a screen. I try to not look at the screen sometimes to practice without it cause it's good for hand eye coordination
Nope. Most people *tell* me to say Kreh-tuh - like that's the "right one". But some say it's Kreetuh, some say it's Kritah, some say it's Critter, some say it's other random stuff. It's probably the most common comment I get... people arguing over how to pronounce the word "crayon" in Swedish :D
Congrats you all! I started digital art by getting a tablet years ago. Dont be intimidated. Mess around. Have fun! Theres so many colors you can use. Like... all of them. Haha.
I'm a super beginner digital artist and I have ALWAYS wondered how artists just grab parts of the draw drawing and manipulate it. Thank you for making the first tutorial I've ever seen that actually covers that
Dude I have been trying to figure out the basic controls of Krita for ages, thank you so much for this video! I've also watched a ton of these videos looking for this info in particular and haven't gotten this help. Thank you!
@@Jenna_Talia that's the default set for almost every drawing program that I've used, and it's not that hard to change it....idk I don't think it's that big of a deal haha and I actually like that it does that since my art relies on line art, and it'd be a little annoying if I had to color everything in by hand
@@Jenna_Talia oh, no I meant that I like how it's set to canvas haha bc I do my coloring on the layer below my line art. But I mean, whatever you prefer is fine. I was just saying most things are normally set to canvas
IF your creating a comic check out "Clip Studio" it is the original creators of Manga Studio, they are the same but Clip Studio version gets a lot more free stuff and updates. You will find the Manga studio is sold through Smith Micro and is often TWICE the price, just go with the Japanese original, it is in english lol. Clip studio is full of models you can import or trace into your comic, it has all the fonts and speech bubles and frames, you can set up a full comic book there. It has full stabilizing for freehand drawing that is better than this little program, If you watch out for it you can grab it for £25, the manga studio version is often over twice the price for the exact same program. I hope this helps, Im a por artist and like to help
Yours is the first tutorial I've watched (AND i'VE WATCHED A LOT!) where I could A. understand what you were saying and B. while you moved fast, you spent some time on each thing so I could draw along and figure it out!! Thank you a million times!
Thank you, so much for this video, I had no idea where to find the clipping settings and practically straight away, you show me how to so THANK YOU THANK YOU you have really helped me out!!!
One thing you can do to help it bucket fill the background better, drag it down lower on the stack. The layers matter on what it affects or doesn't. This can be amazing if you want to throw a background under some things, but also have it show through other layers. :)
^^ Yup! Strangely, in Krita, it bucket fills whatever is visible, so if your line art layer is showing, it won't bucket fill under the line art :/ This sounds pretty cool! Thank you for sharing, Jessica!! :)
That's awesome! Very glad I could help you! Maybe my sketch process and line art process videos will help too?? :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4nEA7-wtQxo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YY4jcQFOu5Q.html
Thank You ! Thank you ! Thank you ! You almost made me cry with relief when you showed the effect of the Quick Clipping Group. I am a total newbie (two days now) with digital arts and was looking for this the WHOLE DAY ! :D
I love krita. I have made like 500 digital abstract pieces in less than a year. I look forward to watching your videos. You do a great job explaning it too. Im adhd too so I love the short videos.
Krita is the best! :) Very very nice! If you have a link to a deviantart or ArtStation, or anything you've posted them on... I'd love to take a look!! And thank you very much! Glad you enjoy :) Haha! I hear that! I decided when I made my channel, that I dreaded watching 45 minute long videos just to do something simple... so NOT ONE of my videos is over 10 minutes exactly :)
this was awesome and taught me some things, but I do have an easier solution for your fill issue. First select your color, then make a new layer for the layer you want filled as a background ,then go to 'Edit' on the top left of the window and select 'Fill with Foreground Color' or use the short cut "Shift + Backspace". There you have it, Thank you again and hope this helps.
Aww thank you so much, Bell :_) Yeah, there's actually an option to fill JUST the background! I found it a while ago. Gonna make a quick video talking about it sometime!
Thank u so much for your tutorials. I have always wanted to start digital painting but after getting all my supplies I couldn't even move the canvas in krita So these short tutorials mean a lot to me thank u
Np man! :) Glad to hear you all are getting another one! :) And YES! I feel you. Some programs are ridiculously expensive. Not to mention monthly plans :/ Trust me, I 100% hear that.
Bucket fill has option to fill everything on a selected layer, it's just not set to be default option. Go to tool options (in the color picker docker on your workspace) and change the layer options from all visible layers -> selected layer only. Same option is also applied to the select tools and the "magic wand" tool, so you can easily change how they work, and use fill tol to quickly color a drawing.
My fine sir, why you have graciously have saved me so much trouble as i have been searching for a long time on how to use a clipping mask or whtver but here you have explained it finely and thus thank you sooo much much my dear friend i literally subbed instantly
instead of hiding all your layers to bucket fill the background, just move the layer you want to fill to the top of the layers, fill it then move it back to where it was.
There's a function to fill the current layer you're on, without any interference from other layers. That's the fastest way, but if you're more comfortable doing it like how you said - then keep on keepin' on :)
Thank you so much for This! I just started using krita for experiences in digital drawing, but I'm soo confused, cause there are to many tools... Just needed sth like that! ^^
1:40 1) dunno what it is, but on my Wacom Intuos I can't use the bottom botton and shift without playing some sort of hop-scotch wizardry to get it to work right. 2) also, if i hold Shift, and drag to change pen size...even when I let go of shift, it doesn't stop changing pen size until I lift the pen up, making it very hard to get where I want it. essentially useless.
You can change the fill tool properties from "All Layers" to "Current Layer" in the tool options docker to resolve the fill issue you mentioned at 7:45. You may have to uncheck the option "Fill Entire section" to change sample options in the tool option docker. If you do not see the tool options docker after selecting the fill tool. You can simply go to Settings on the top bar > Dockers > and enable Tool Options. This will reveal the tool option dialog in the right pane.
what if I don't have Tool Options? Like at all? :D I watched so many tutorials and all of them have it on top of the color selector or at least as docker in the settings. My krita just does not have it :(
On the bucket fill thing.. I found that just filling out a few times is enough ..just clicking a few times will do it..instead of making the other layers invisible 🙃
I use my mouse. KIND of like the challenge (dont have enough to buy a tablet yet, ), but yeah there are plenty of tools that really help on krita- I mainly work on faces, so just the usual tools help a lot
@@TutsByKai Thank you :D I learn pretty fast, but I`m kind of nervous of using tablets to be honest. I`m not quite sure how I`ll do with the hand eye coordination, but there`s always room to try and learn- working on landscapes right now, they are a bit simpler, I`m finding the blend knife tool very adequate for my landscape style :)
I just switched from traditional drawing(2years) to digital so I can start animating. This was immensely helpful. Thanks a ton! Digital drawing coming from a traditional drawing background is much like re-learning how to walk again lol.
I draw in hands and then I use a program to photoscam the image, so I can color it on computer. I have Krita and Photoshop as well. And Krita seems to be faster than photoshop in low spec computers. ( sorry for bad english )
I always wanted to make art... Since I was a kid, my art was terrible. But now with Krita I can finally fix it! Thank you TutsBykai Your tutorial are always short and sweet! ^_^
I've got to say that Krita is an amazing tool! I've pushed it to its limits where it has crashed but that's usually because I'm not observing the memory warnings - my bad. Saving files regularly is wise as is closing down files you don't need. It's great that it's pretty much like Photoshop. I like your own file format type, I tend to use that to save images. The jpg export feature works perfectly. The clone brush was a recent find, works just like on Photoshop allowing a cmd click to set the original position and then you can just paint away. The layer control and drag/drop interface works well - easy to prioritise the layer visibility order. The selection tool catches me off guard, as it seems to want to keep with the original selection and subtract from it. It's quite different to Photoshop and hence you need to keep deselecting from the selection menu if you mis-click initially. Unless I'm using it incorrectly (quite possible!). The transform and move tool work just like Photoshop. The rotation of layers is great, so stable even on large high res layers. The brush size tool is easy to use with the sliders. I find the shift from circular to square tips a bit fiddly but all doable. I've used the tool extensively for image repositioning comedy artwork on my site www.plasmablobs.com. Feel free to check it out and thanks for this excellent tool again!
When I try to draw something a circle will come around the pen then when I try to draw it will not do anything then it will suddenly shoot out, pls help me
I don’t know what I did but I lost the color wheel and can’t find how to get it back. I even uninstall and reinstalled but nothing changed. Any solutions?
This doesn't have enough likes! Really people?! Come on you can do so much better! Great tutorial man. I can't wait to see more tutorials on Krita. I really need to learn how to use it very well! 🙂🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤❤
This is amazing! Thank you so much! I've never tried out digital art, because I'm a huge fan of analog art. But I wanted to do a children's book and try out a graphic tablet. Turns out I bought almost the same as you lol so I guess it was a good choice!
Aww thank you so much :) That's AWESOME! I'm also making a children's book (more of a pre-teens book... but still) :D Haha! Yup, you don't need a HUMONGOUS $1,000 graphics tablet to get the job done! Pretty close to mine? Cool! Which one did you wind up going with? :)
Oh that's so great! We need more great books for the younger people. :3 Yeah, that'd be insane. I ended up buying the Huiom H640P 8192. When I watched your video I was pretty relieved to know you had the same brand haha it'll arrive tomorrow and I'm so excited!!
We do need more more books for the youngsters! That is very true. And, yay! That looks like a pretty amazing tablet! I hope you enjoy it! Haha, yeah - Huion is great :D I love 'em!
bro u can go to tool option and change the settings to make that bucket fill perfect......there u can see something like 'SAMPLE' option were u can change to 'all layers' or 'current layer'
Thanks for this, I got a new laptop and drawing tablet the other day and found that drawing software has come a long way from when I used to play with ms paint. This is so helpful.
I want to know how to use it for making lectures online I like the full canvas feature but I want a simple pen and color menu which is small so I can record a big part of my screen
